Admittedly the act of getting a natural gas generator took longer than we anticipated, I can say that none of the delays was because of Schaafsma and staff. It was DTE taking it's good ol' time to upgrade our gas meter. After that it was the Township's Code and the electrical hookup. A few things had to be done to align them. In all of this Schaafsma was there and took care of everything. Just as they had promised. I'm so pleased with them that we've asked them to put in a new AC in the spring which we will need because ours will be outdated next year beginning January 1, 2020. They are reliable, understanding and competent. We are very pleased.

I engaged two HVAC companies for quotes to solve for a weakening A/C unit and poor air flow upstairs. One company's "solution" and quote was for a replacement unit (same size, make, and model) and told me that poor flow and 10-degree temp difference between levels is inevitable with a single unit. Schaafsma quoted us a new unit, but also inspected our ductwork and recommended re-configuring it near the furnace/fan and adding a second return to increase the amount of air that could pass through, and upgrading our fan to move that extra air in an efficient manner. Needless to say we went with Schaafsma. We now have only a 4-degree difference between the main level and upstairs, and couldn't be happier with our decision. It was clear that the Schaafsma team is passionate, knowledgeable, and willing to take a stand when they know what needs to be done to solve the problem, not the symptoms. I highly recommend their team.

Miscalculated the size needed to cool and heat our house effectively. Literally ripped us off. Put in about 6,000 dollars or more for them to "fix" the AC which would never cool down our house below 80 degrees. Basically told us that the unit was too small. THEY WERE THE ONES THAT PUT IT IN. This company is a rip off. Now if we want proper AC and heat coverage for our house we will have to replace Schaafsma's workmanship and calculations. Terrible company.

We had Schaafsma come out and look at our air conditioning unit after we realized it wasn't cooling as well as it should have been. The technician found a mouse had chewed all the coating off the wires and they were sparking! He turned it off and helped us schedule an appointment to figure out what sort of unit we would need to replace it (it was also 30 years old, so it was time for a new one anyway). After meeting on a Saturday morning to talk over which unit was best for our home, they were able to install our new unit on the Tuesday following. They ran into some unforseen complications and it took them all day because of that, but they were incredibly professional the whole time and took pains to keep our house as clean as possible during the process. Afterwards they took the time to teach me about the new unit and let me know what I needed to do to keep it running at its best. We had a great experience with them!

Technician Juan was nice and friendly, but unprofessional and not qualified. He came to my house 3 different times and still did not fix the problem. He said I needed a $300 part and the labor to install it would be $200. I called another company and they came out and fixed the problem for $100, no extra part needed.

Probably. You have provided service to my furnace and air con for several years now. This time the young man told me something was "grinding" and he recommended a $600 solution. I don't know if I can trust this advice. Are your techs on commission? Is there any other reason for him to make this recommendation? Is there someone there with maybe a little more experience who would be willing to offer a second opinion? He was a fine, polite young man but this rather struck me a a bit odd. Schaafsma has been providing outstanding service at our house for years. Always prompt in scheduling and arriving on time--this time, Kim was early. The technicians are courteous and knowledgeable. Kim provided our annual air conditioner maintenance, checked our furnace (we had some recent construction completed) and changed our furnace filter. What was new about today's service call was Kim explained to me how the air conditioner drain should be cleaned monthly and annually--never knew that. She took time to explain the current function of the air conditioner and the importance of keeping it clean by hosing it down periodically--never knew that. She also explained how to create better circulation of the cooled air by opening basement registers rather than closing them--never knew that.

Technician was awesome very good I'd give him a solid 4 out of 5. My furnace was under warranty inducer fault which ended up needing a new motor which was free. Total labor bill was $370.00. $75.00 for diagnosis and $295.00 for installing a part and sending the technician to go and pick it up. Maybe took 1.5 hours to get the part and install it. Seemed incredibly high for the labor. Will check around with other services, feel a little taken advantage of.

They will be reported the the Better Business Bureau! What a rip off. I was charged twice what I should have been. They didn't repair it right and had to come back and repair it again. In the meantime, by utility room filled with water. After the second repair, the utility room flooded again as they failed to clear the drain. My downstairs kitchen cabinets are water logged and ruined, because of their shotty workmanship. I got shafted by Schaafsma Heating and Cooling.

March 26, 2019 I had a hot water heater installed. I was told they would be here around 10ish..finally arrived at 12:15. Soon after the installers began, they broke/cut a pipe, and water was spraying every where. Walls, furnace, floors...all wet. They did not shut off the main water supply. After finally getting that off, I got out the fans, floor vac. and began to clean that up. Continuing on, 2.5 hours later, I began to smell a strong smell of gas coming up to the main living area. I went downstairs, and asked if there was a gas leak. "No, we are just purging" the gas line". Believe me, it was strong, and I have cats, and was worried. I turned on all ceiling fans, and opened doors. Half hour later, I went back downstairs, and asked if there was a problem. "Well, yeah, the heater was wet, and would not keep the burner ignited." I called Schaafsma, and was concerned with the work in progress. I spoke to someone there, who said they would find out what was happening, and have the guys come upstairs, and inform me...again. Right after that call, the guys finally got the HWH to stay lit. Great. After all this, I still understood mistakes happen, but what happened after that...is why I would not suggest this company. I called to speak to the install Mgr. and left him a voice mail. Two days later, still nothing. Three days later, I called to speak to Kevin Walsh, the owner...he was at lunch, later that day Chris, who was in charge of the guys installing called me back, directed by his superior, and I spoke to him. He simply stated a new policy would now be in place to shut off water all the way back to meter. My BIGGEST complaint after all this...COMMUNICATION. It took you 3 days, and 2 calls to finally call me back. You made me feel like you could have cared less, but the $1400 charge was all that was needed. Thanks, I would only warn others to be cautious.

Dave did a great job and explained a lot of things that previous installers did not. Prior to Dave, Kim came and serviced my furnace. When she was done, she asked me if I had a Schaafsma sign to put in my yard for a $10 discount. I told her yes and that I would put it in my yard when she left. A couple of minutes after she had gone, I went to look for my sign and noticed it was missing. I happened to look in my yard and saw it standing there. The sign was not in visible sight in the garage, so she had to scour my garage to find it. I did not appreciate her rummaging in my garage to find it. Also, the secretaries that I talked to and told them I needed to schedule an appointment to service my furnace never returned my calls nor scheduled an appointment for me. These two complaints are the only ones I have had in all the years I have been with Schaafsma.

They were able to come out that day quick find a few problems unknown to us, and turn off furnace along with gas to water heater to make it safe till they were to come next day fix. When I e-mailed the company requesting an invoice and a report of the work, they send me incredibly short-winded report with simply 'old furnace, consider replacing', not making any comment as to the level of CO (they did give a value, but did not interpret as a high, low, OK, etc.). When I reached out to them regarding my disappointment with their service, I received only another (3 total) email asking for feedback (which I had already emailed them about). Very disappointed with the service, but they're not the only heating and cooling company in town, so there's still a silver lining...

We all know that things don't always go as planned, but these people FOLLOWED UP to make things better. Everyone I talked to at Schaafsma, either on the phone, or in person, was TERRIFIC. I also appreciated how the installers and service techs educated me on the equipment. When I asked if there was anything I could/should do regarding the equipment, I received good information (i.e., change filters, etc.), tasks that a customer could safely do to maintain the operation of the unit. I LOVED how they used current technology, communicating through phone videos, etc., what needed to be done; "we need to contact the manufacturer on this", etc. Well Done, Schaafsma!

He complemented the duct work among other things left from the old system which wouldn't need to be replaced and saved me a ton of money. I purchased my new furnace in less than 2 hours from the time I made the original service call. Schaafsma was out the next day to install. I've never had a sales experience for any product go this well and I'm not a lucky person. I've already recommended them and will have them install a new water heater when the time comes.
