I had been seeing a Chiropractor in another state doing decompression therapy for several years. I developed pretty severe pain in my hip radiating down my leg. It was constant and nothing I did seemed to relieve it. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Shapiro for a consultation. After evaluating my MRI, X-rays and weight distribution on my feet, he did a very good adjustment and suggested orthotics. Dr. Shapiro has restored me from a 7-9 on the pain scale 100% of the time to a 1 every once in awhile. I had no hope really that my condition could be improved and it was only desperation that brought me to him and I am forever grateful that it did. I had, it turned out, a number of undiagnosed and untreated whiplash events (probably from my years in martial arts) that had turned into arthritis and a badly misaligned neck curvature. It affected my life in numerous ways, from getting dressed, to driving, to being able to sit at dinner and enjoy my family conversation time (because sitting in dining chairs made it hurt the most). Intensive treatment, which has gradually tapered off over 6 months to only one visit per 5 weeks or so, and the use of tailor-made foot levelers, has resulted in more than I could ever have hoped for. Arthritis can not be reversed but he has successfully restored my alignment to a point where I don’t feel the arthritic parts anymore. He also has great bedside manner. I have full range of motion, ability to be present in all of life’s enjoyments, and almost zero discomfort. Thank you, Dr. Shapiro, for removing the cloud of doom that seemed to hang over me and for helping to restore me to the normal, vibrant, active life I love.

I am so glad that I went to see Dr. Shapiro and his marvelous staff, including Office Manager, Georgia and Massage Therapist, Lynne. The exam and x-rays explained so much about why my body has felt 'off' for many years. I've lived with neck, hip, low-back, and knee pain since my teens (I'm now 45), and by reviewing the scans with Dr. Shapiro I learned exactly where the trouble points are (a 'crook' in the upper spine at the sternum and a torque in the lower spine). The adjustment Dr. Shapiro performed provided instant relief. But the life-changing aspect of my appointment came from a pair of orthotics. There's a lot of research about customized orthotics, and I recommend reviewing some of that literature. Orthotics are not inexpensive, and for some people, a simple store-bought pair might do the trick. They didn't for me. Over the years I had tried one store-bought pair over another. These customized orthotics are made for each of the three arches of the foot and they 'trick' the brain into re-balancing. My left foot was carrying more than 56% of my weight, while my right foot was carrying just over 43%. The orthotics have balanced that percentage, and I feel a stunning difference. It took me a bit to get used to them, but once I did, wow! After just over a week I was able to stand and walk at a festival for 12 hours with zero pain anywhere. None of the usual low-back aches. None of the knee aches. None of the neck aches. It was remarkable. And the next day, I felt none of the usual after-activity pains I have felt in the past. Visually, there is a benefit as well. One shoulder has always been significantly higher than the other, and I would work hard (sometimes straining back muscles) to try to 'hold down' the higher of the two. When I'm wearing the customized orthotics, my shoulders naturally fall straight, and my upper-chest ribs that used to protrude no longer do. While this makes me feel more confident, it also has a physiological effect. There is a lightness in my upper torso that I don't recall ever experiencing before. All that pressure from the crook and torque is gone. I am so grateful and hope that others will find this review helpful. There can be relief to long-lasting pain!

Nice front desk staff but I felt like they were constantly trying to sell me on things I wasn't interested in. Shapiro made me feel more uncomfortable than anything. Not physically, but with his weird jokes and conversation. Lots of people scheduled for one time of day so you feel like you're cattle being herded through. Not much one on one time to discuss concerns or ask questions because the next patient would be waiting on the other side of the divider and more would be in the waiting room. This could be improved.

I've always been very active outside, from hiking to skiing to running, but as I've aged I began to realize that I don't bounce back quite as quickly as I used to. I started seeing Dr. Shapiro several years ago for some mid to upper back pain and he was able to help tremendously. Last winter I suffered a shoulder injury and thought it would be the beginning of the end of my outdoor adventures. I have suffered from back & neck pain most of my life and since going to Dr. Shapiro, I have felt so much better. He takes the time to get to know you and see exactly what is going on with you. He has knowledge, compassion and a sense of humor which is so important. Years ago I went into him thinking I pulled a muscle or twisted the wrong way. By the time I got to the office, I could barely walk which was only about 10 minutes from when I called him. Right away, without panic, he realized I was having a stroke to which he had me lay down right away and packed my head in ice for swelling. To which, he called an ambulance and I was admitted. He knew not to try to adjust me but was amazing from what I can remember of the whole ordeal. The nurses told me had he not packed my head in ice, it may have been a longer recovery and a TIA would have ended up in a full stroke. He even came up to see how I was doing which meant the world to my family. His main concern is his patients and has even met us at the office when he was not working. You very rarely find a Doctor that is the committed to his patients. I would tell anyone to go and talk to him if you have any problems at all. He will give you his honest opinion. His staff is also amazing and so kind always ready to help. They make you feel so comfortable and you know it comes from the heart.

I was in a fender bender last year and I had terrible migraines that my prescription migraine medication couldn’t touch and such nausea that I couldn’t make it through the work day without lying down. I was seeing my local chiropractor and an acupuncturist as well as trying prescriptions and homeopathic remedies and nothing was helping. I had such terrible back pain I was at the point of sleeping sitting up at night but never really able to sleep. Dr Shapiro took some time to understand my issue and after some scans, etc put in place a course of action. We meet 3X a week for almost a year. I had amazing results after about 6 months. I was able to sleep and live my life without the insane pain that I had previously. Dr Shapiro has been key to my recovery from several health concerns including Vertigo. It is extremely rare these days to find a Healthcare Provider that really stops to listen and actively work to resolve the entire problem. As a fitness instructor, I sought help from Dr. Shapiro with back and knee pains, presumably from years of wear. With his thorough initial examination and detailed explanations of my x-rays, I learned that my problem area was actually my neck, trickling down to affect the rest of my body. I never would have guessed. The introductory 3 adjustments per week proved to be more convenient than I thought they would be because visits are quick. Just a few minutes out of my day. The massage therapists are fantastic as well, adding to the practice's holistic approach to well-rounded health. My now bi-weekly massage sessions & adjustments have allowed me to put my all into my fitness classes again, drastically improving my quality of life. I have experienced back problems my entire life and mostly ignored them. It wasn't until a recent injury that I decided to give chiropractic services a try. I came to Port City Chiro after a recommendation from a family member who is a patient. On the first day Dr. Shapiro gave me a full analysis and explained the problems he saw in a way that was easy for me to understand. He laid out a clear treatment process so that I knew exactly what I was getting into. After just a couple weeks my symptoms were noticeably lessened. I am now a couple months into my treatment and I couldn't be happier! Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Loch and the entire staff are kind and helpful. They really make your experience comfortable. The adjustments are also very quick. I do mine in the morning before I start work. I often show up early, am seen early, and leave, all before my scheduled appointment time even starts. If you're looking for something more advanced (hot stone, sports massage, etc.) this is not the place for you. I was disappointed the last time I went and am using my next two visits to determine if the low cost is worth the mediocre massage.

This is one of the easiest 5 Star reviews I've ever given, and I don't typically pass them out. The big takeaway: Dr Shapiro repeatedly finds and brings immediate relief to areas where I'm experiencing some abnormal pain. It was first a neck injury that caused me every symptom in the book, from anxiety/panic attacks to total sleep deprivation. The most recent has been trying to recover from another seemingly innocuous car collision, wherein my neck and 2 other places down my spine have become enraged. :) When I went in for my initial visit I couldn't stand up straight, nor had I been able to for about a month. After two visits, I was standing up straight every time I stood up. It's a long process to total recovery, I know, but you can't refuse credit when someone enables you to do something we all take for granted every day...simply standing up straight. He's a good man, he runs a great practice, and I'll bet you won't be disappointed in yourself for making an appointment with him. For your sake, stop reading this review and CALL HIM!

After spending $100 on two appointments I was never treated for my back problem and was then told I would have to spend $600 a month, I have insurance, for 5 months to fix this unknown problem and when I was hesitant the "doctor", who can't even keep himself in shape, then proceeded to give me the attitude of a teenager and tell me I was wasting his time.
