Meh. Nothing special, especially for the price.

Emily Fuger

Food is good, but menu is limited and a little pricey for the quality and location.

Cavinda Caldera

Great food and quick service if you are on the west/engineering campus areas.

Meh. I spent $14 on what was supposed to be a dinner-sized salad with shrimp. It was the size of a side salad. It was tasty, but I probably won't go back.

Classy restaurant with quality eats and drinks. Their large hosting room is perfect for group activities. Be sure to explore the rest of the building while you're there, it's beautiful!

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and it's a beautiful building. Came here for restaurant week and was very disappointed. Chutney with flatbread was OK, it was weird to have cold churney with warm flatbread. Risotto was very undercooked, and this was the opinion from multiple people in our party. Monkey bread was nothing to call home about. Normally I wouldn't even worry about these things, but for the price and expected service, I was very disappointed.

I went to Steenbock's with a friend during restaurant week. The service was wonderful--the hostess offered to hang our coats for us, very polite. The waiter was also very polite and was willing to offer useful suggestions on the menu. He and various assistants kept water glasses full and made sure we had more wine if we wanted it. He often managed to appear to clear our plates the moment I took my last bite. The next course always came out promptly. The food itself was delicious. Amazing. She had the risotto app, I had the salad; the salad was a little underdressed, but the risotto was creamy and delicious. We both has the scallops. I haven't had properly cooked scallops at a restaurant in years! Melt in your mouth, amazing flavor, and the entire dish (parsnip puree, buerre blanc, pancetta) went together deliciously. I'm a huge creme brulee fan, and they did an excellent job with a crisp caramelized top and a rich custard. The decor is a fairly standard nice restaurant, but with a few lab touches. For example, if you order wine by the glass, it comes out in a flask shaped pourer. The tableware and such were clean and in good condition. Not much more in the way of decorations, but this works for me. I will definitely go again.

Very nicely decorated (as all food fight restaurants are). Food was okay, nothing wonderful. Server was attentive, hostess didn't understand the concept of leaving space between tables (like 10 empty tables and sat a large group right next to us). Will likely be back.

I recently dined at Steenbock's On Orchard for a work function. We had a group of around 60 people have dinner at Steenbock's. The staff was fantastic to work with. As the person who was trying to coordinate everything I was especially grateful that the staff was so easy to work with and that they accommodated all of our requests. The food was fantastic and the restaurant was beautiful. We tried having this work function at a few other restaurants in years past but I can say without a doubt that our experience at Steenbock's was the best and I will definitely recommend that we continue to have this function there in the future.

We stopped in during restaurant week to try some of their special offerings. It was $15 for a 3 course lunch and it was perfect for lunch. I started my meal with their Sweet Pea Panna Cotta. OMG! that was the best panna cotta I've had. The panna cotta was balanced nicely with the curry granola and veggies on top. Really nice panna cotta texture and flavor on its own too. Next, I had the salmon salad. It was good, but my salmon was a hint overcooked and the salad was not anything special. I feel as though I could get this salad at quite a few places in Madison any day of the week. Last, I ordered the Blueberry Chiffon Cake for dessert. This was ok and didn't have a lot of flavor to it, unfortunately. I love blueberry and didn't taste much blueberry flavor. And, it was a bit dry. So, the panna cotta gets 5 stars, the salad gets 3 stars and the chiffon cake a 1 star rating from me. The service was good for our table of 5 and they were able to split our checks for us pretty easily. The location is great for those in the area, but may be a bit tricky for those that need to find parking. I love the WID building and the restaurant is clean and nice inside. They have patio seating if you don't mind the traffic noise from Johnson Street. Side note: While we were there eating for restaurant week, we were sat at a table that had visibility into the kitchen area through the floor to ceiling glass wall. There was an employee in the kitchen that was visibly upset (mad) and was causing a bit of a scene and definitely caught the attention of our table and a few other tables nearby. My table mates had very mixed feelings about the incident. I understand that people have bad moments during work and won't pass judgment on this situation, but not everyone does.

High quality, good price. Got the three course. Bruschetta was crunchy and flavorful. Barbecue was smokey and cuminy without being overly sweet. Raspberry Creme Brulee was the perfect amount of tart.

Great. Many good choices

Superb Restaurant-Week lunch menu (see attached pictures), everything was served just so, and the menu on offer Matt be limited, but it's all lovely food. Even the burger was properly cooked to medium, without any promoting on our part. Staff is pleasant and professional, and service was prompt, but seemed unhurried, even though the place was close to packed. We'll definitely be back soon!

The appetizers were great, but my butter chicken sandwich was very dry and difficult to eat

Good location, awesome staff but the veggies options are just not good enough. Not enough choice and always either too fatty (grilled cheese drips with fat, Moroccan vegetables are deep fried and have pesto on them) or bland (wild rice risoto has no taste) :/ Always seems like it's going to be delicious but it's always disappointing

Three of us dined and were delighted with the food. Servings are not large, which was fine with us, and superbly done and garnished attractively. A little pricey but worth it.

Steenbocks is always a favorite for lunch when celebrating special occasions with coworkers. Good selection of sandwiches and salads that are well priced too. Nice beer selection. Their entrées are a bit over priced though. $17.00 for ramen?

A good place for a quick business casual lunch on campus. The orechiette was great

The atmosphere of the place is fantastic. I read the menu, and was intrigued by the risotto. I told the server I was hungry, and specifically asked if I should get a burger or if the risotto would be enough food. After hearing an endorsement for the risotto, I agreed to it. It tottered on that precarious border of "al dente" and under-done (I got that starchy / gritty finish beyond the crunchy texture). The truffle oil added a great flavor (if a bit on the oily side). But the food portion was so incredibly meager, I was hungrier after my meal was complete! Further, the cost, as lunches go, was too steep. I can only blame myself for agreeing to pay $17 (counting tip) for a paltry serving of underdone rice. . . . (Edit: 10/17/18 I've eaten there a few other times (mostly because of proximity) and there's no more risotto, and while I stand by my original review, I've bumped up the 'star' rating and can report that most of their food is at least a 4, and often 5; my main critique (and philosophy) is that some places charge a premium, so should be judged accordingly)

The best cheese curds I have had till date. Awesome staff, good food, bang in the middle of the university.

Edward Leonard Jr

Tasty food, a fresh air about the place, and the combination of the University atmosphere with modern cuisine for reasonable prices make Steenbock's a major player with its on-campus locale. Definitely worth going for treating yourself after a hard day at work/class.
