Everything looked and smelled good. The sever was super nice, but she was told by management to ask after we order if we are splitting. Then there is a four dollar fee additional for that same meal and same portion. No thanks. We went next door. It just doesn't feel right.

Went here for lunch today and was very disappointed. I ordered the chicken. I came out and it was nice and hot. The meat was dry the bones were black and no smoke ring in meat. I believe it may have been warmed up in a microwave as it had spots where meat was cooked to the skin. I was drenched in BBQ sauce I feel to cover up the dry meat. I scraped it off as it was way over powering for chicken. Waitress was very nice and offered to replace it but with what? More chicken? No thank you. Better chicken at Texas Roadhouse.

I hail from Rockford Illinois, I visited having been in the area, hungry, and having a weakness for brisket. I actually missed my turn and spotted this place. The brisket sandwich was delicious. The mashed potatoes were seasoned perfectly. BBQ Sauce is out of this world. It is impossible to overstate how good this sauce was. Torrence was very friendly. I recommend this place and will return.

First time there wit my bf and family we were so hungry ordered a lot of food wanted to atleast eat a few ribs then go they wouldn't even let us and were very rude about it. Not nice will never go there again. Bad service rude workers no good. Couldn't even park there had park by the bar.

The food is amazing so I cannot give lower than four stars, but the woman at the register was rather rude to us and the couple behind us. She immediately yelled at the guy behind us for a "carry in" which was obviously a water bottle, and didn't let up after he said it was water and they were just there for take-out. They also charge an exorbitant amount to split a dinner for my elderly grandparents and if you get takeout EVERYTHING is packaged in styrofoam.

We ordered food to go. It was our first time eating at Smokey Jons and my husband and I weren't disappointed. The food was fresh and hot. Everything was delicious. The chicken was seasoned and fall of the bone perfection. The ribs were good but not great, it was the sauce for me I just didn't really care to much for. The sugar biscuits are super yummy. All and all I would definitely go back to eat there.

Best barbecue in the state. Their ribs and sauce are legendary and have won awards all over the country. You don't expect to find award winning barbecue in a little shack next the airport in the middle of Wisconsin, yet there it is. If it's your first time, get a full rack of ribs, fries and corn. You will forget about everything until it's all gone. So tender. Next time try some pulled pork or some brisket. It's all fantastic. Do not miss an opportunity to go to Smoky Jon's.

A hidden gem up on Madison's near north side. The menu is simple for a reason; everything on it is done perfectly! I haven't had BBQ this good since I moved out of Houston, Texas and I don't say that lightly. Highly recommend the ribs or the beef brisket. Just trust me on that one. Their side dishes are all pretty solid but tend to be very heavy on the garlic. The employees are friendly and efficient and I've had no complaints. The dining area is a little small and tends to fill up during peak hours. Parking is limited to about 6 spots but if you search a little there are more than a few side streets or other lots you can find very close. If you're in the mood for BBQ you absolutely, positively cannot go wrong with this place.

I ordered the Smoked Chopped Pork Shoulder Family Package (for pick-up) and when I got home I found out they didn't include our buns. So, I had to drive back to the restaurant to pick them up. After returning home (for the second time) I find 2/4 buns are squished and practically unusable. We are a family of four, so that really sucked. When I called back to complain, the staff was completely unapologetic. Total waste of $28.75! We'll be patronizing Beef Butter BBQ in the future.

Terrible. After placing our order and paying for the food we sat down. Anxious to try this highly recommend BBQ. After 45 minutes and observing three other tables that came in after us, I returned to the window that takes the orders. They apologize and say what did you order. I showed them the order placard they gave us and told them what the two were. They a couple more minutes. About five minutes later they drop two dinners off at our table. Not what we ordered. A third employee came to our table again asking what we ordered and taking the second wrong order away. After a few minutes of watching the staff try to figure things out rather than bring the correct order to us I returned to the window cause they were struggling. I asked what it was going to take to get the correct order . After a one minute conversation I asked for my money back. They didn't win any award from me. Smell was great but I have no clue what the food tastes like. Parking is not good, and the inside is not appealing. Oh yeah, they gave me the. Wrong change too

Ribs and brisket are fantastic. Super soft meat, the rib meat was sliding right off the bones. The side dishes aren't great but not bad. For example the onion rings have good texture and aren't too greasy, but also lack much flavor. Applesauce and BBQ beans could also use some more flavor. The inside is pretty simple and I think they do a lot more carryout than dine-in. I'll definitely go back.

Small hole in the wall place, incredibly large amazing BBQ flavor. A coworker who is from Texas recommended Smoky Jon's as the best BBQ in Madison. I've not tried all the others but I'm thinking they are probably right. The chopped brisket was fantastic. Not dry or lacking in flavor even before adding on the BBQ sauce. The Mac 'n Cheese was awesome too. Tasted like some aged cheddar in there and it was creamy smooth. I want their recipe! The baked beans were quite tasty as well. Everything had just enough kick in it to be good but not too much as to be overwhelming. I'll definitely return and have more of their delicious BBQ.

I have been reading and hearing about Smokey Jon’s BBQ in Madison for years. Most accounts say it is the best BBQ place Madison if not the entire state of Wisconsin. With more than 100 awards, including many national and world awards, Smokey Jon’s is rated a must stop for anyone who enjoys barbecue. And, I fit into that category. Usually in Madison around business activities, I never took the time to stop until the other day when I stopped for lunch. Now, it is going to be a must stop every time I am in Madison. Smokey Jon’s is located in a nondescript building on a busy street on Madison’s east side. There is virtually no parking, but I was lucky to find a spot along a side street. This mainly a takeout type of place although there is a cozy little seating area with about 12 tables. You order your meal at a “hole in the wall” counter from a very pleasant cashier/server. The menu is a large, painted sign over the counter and it took me several minutes to read through all the meal options. Finally, I selected the 1/3/Slab and Smoked Pork Shoulder Sandwich dinner knowing that I would have leftovers for dinner that night. My meal came with 2 side dishes. I chose applesauce and buttered corn from the 10 options available. The server brought my meal to the table in less than 5 minutes. The 1/3 slab of ribs was smothered with their “famous” barbecue sauce. The ribs were perfectly smoked; they were meaty, juicy and falling off the bone tender with a nice bark. The sauce had a nice zip but was not overpoweringly hot. It was one of the best barbecue sauces I recall ever eating. I can see why it won a world award for barbecue sauce. My only problem is there was only 1/3 slab of the best ribs I have eaten in a very long time. The Smoked Pork Shoulder sandwich was a mound of shredded pork on a rather plain sesame seed roll. The barbecue sauce was served on the side. I sampled the sandwich meat but saved the sandwich itself for dinner. The real surprise of the meal though was the corn. It had a spicy, roasted buttery flavor that was a surprise. Smokey Jon’s gets my vote for best barbecue in Wisconsin.

Fantastic BBQ! The food was NOT dry. Delicious! Sides were tasty. Even took home some sauce in a bottle. The man himself, the creator of Smoky Jon's, was there and talked with everyone. I know he is not there all the time but it he showed a care and concern for each person there making sure it was a good experience. Let's just say the food does that on it's own though. Highly recommend!

I stopped here with my daughter after spending the day in Madison. From the outside it looked like a place that needed to be checked out. It just looked like it would be good. It was around 2pm on a Sunday, so we didn't expect any kind of crowd. We were the only ones there until we stepped up to the ordering counter. 3 other parties (12 or so people in total) lined up behind us... Great timing!... We ordered a brisket sandwich (chopped), 1/3 rack of ribs, and a side of brisket. Side orders of beans and cole slaw too. We ordered and chose a window seat. The food came out about 10 minutes later. The ribs were spectacular and the brisket was very good. The sauce included was original, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste (it was very good though). Definitely some of the best ribs I've ever had. I'm really glad that we decided to give it a try. Regarding the service, they were extremely friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back!

Well I work for a delivery service and I got there a little bit late on a busy night after they had closed the place at least 30 minutes early. The employee I talked to was indifferent and rude about it as she and another guy were waiting outside for a ride home apparently. She could not have given a damn about their customer who was set up to receive that food and the food never got delivered.

We love Smoky Jon's. We order and pick up. I wasn't super impressed that they forgot an entire family side in our last order of almost $60. I called and they said they would send a refund. Nothing yet... We are also gluten free, so I asked if we could have a gluten free option instead of the 8 buns they would include. They said our gluten free option is to not include the buns for us. No credit, no substitution. So after all is said and done I had a meal without 8 buns and a missing side for $60.

I want to Smoky Jon's BBQ for the first time yesterday on the 4th of July. And I was very disappointed. I ordered the whole slab dinner. And the half a slab half a chicken combo. The ribs seem like they was made the day before and reheated. so they were very dry. The chicken was somewhat dry and the macaroni and cheese was just terrible. What they say about first impressions. 50 bucks down the drain I will never ever go there again.

Well they didn't win so many awards for nothing! I was skeptical after hearing about this place from a friend. I wasn't sure if they actually knew their BBQ. After taking my first bite of their famous ribs, I knew I was in for some good cue. I've gone to many BBQ places all around the US and always take my time to consider the flavor, texture, and quality of the meats. For a wet style rib Smoky Jon's does an excellent job! I tried a taste of some of their brisket and that was delicious as well. Their most popular sides are the sugar fried biscuits, beans, and fries. I got the beans and sugar fried biscuits. The biscuits were more like a dessert item, but the batter isn't sweet. This makes sense because they are "sugar fried." The beans were just okay. I've had much better down in Austin. Overall it was an excellent meal. I would definitely come back

As a first timer, I enjoyed myself. Went in a Sunday and the line was short, but there doesn't seem to be parking (easy enough to park around the block). Check out the menu before you go because the only menu inside is high on the wall and only visible from in front of the register. Portions are good and the sauce has a nice vinegar tang. Beverage options seem to be only fountain drinks (root beer tasted like diet).

Traveled to Wisconsin from West Virginia for work and searched google for a decent place to eat. Had a craving for some BBQ so I went with Smokey Jon's. It was located a little over an hr from my hotel but not what I would consider "too far" for good BBQ. When we got there, I noticed a sign that read "best BBQ in the universe" which gave me a good chuckle. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the 1/3 slab of ribs and beef brisket sandwich meal. I'm not a food critic by any means but this is by far the best BBQ I have ever had. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by Smokey Jon's.

The name says it! It really is the best barbecue place around. It’s a small little place that’s great for ordering and dining in or carrying out. The entire staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is always served hot and there sauce is by far the best barbecue sauce I have had. (They even sell it by the bottle!) It’s sweet, tangy with a little spice that builds flavor. Favorite menu items are the ribs and pork sandwich. If your a big fan of Mac and cheese I highly recommend it as a side. By far one of our favorite hidden gems in Madison!

This was our second time coming here and would come another 2000xs! Best mac n cheese, garlic mashed taters, you actually taste the flavor not bland at all and definitely homemade. The ribs are fall off the bone mouth watering and that little crunch here and there. LOVE Smoky Jon's. You're missing out if you drive past or don't wait in line.

Very good BBQ! The only thing that bummed me out was that I saw all these awards for a variety of different sauces; having moved here from Georgia, I was really looking forward to trying the spicy vinegar. Not that Jon's house sauce isn't fantastic, but it kinda felt to me like the awards that are displayed are for products that aren't available to the public. But I'll be back at some point.

Small rustic place, very friendly people and the ribs are excellent. Jon can out and greeted us. Only thing I could have asked for would be a beer ... They only serve soft drinks so go for the ribs

This place is amazing!! The staff was very friendly and helpful on our first visit. We had the ribs and brisket. The ribs were very yummy. The brisket was good but a bit dry. The very tasty sauce with the brisket saved it however. I also loved how crispy the fries were and the seasoning on them. I will definitely become a regular here now. I don't know why it took so long for me to visit!

The owner thanked me for a 4 star rating and it got me thinking. Usually I'm just prompted by Google to give feedback, so I'm not a connoisseur, nor do I go out of my way to make ratings. Let me clarify then, that I held off on a full 5 stars for some fairly minor reasons. The flavor should have taken this into a solid maximum rating, but my friend thought he was going to get a brisket sandwich (and only got the sliced), and mine, in the combo meal, looked like it was shredded for a sandwich, but was not in a sandwich. Moving past that (and other minor confusion about the menu) this is some excellent BBQ. I'm literally craving it now, again, not 24 hours after, and I don't really care if it's in sandwich form or not.

Usually very very good. The sauce is great, the sides are superb, the smoked meats are simply great. I don't want to call it one of those places that is a "hole in the wall" that happens just have the best food around, but it's sort of one of those places. Like a "local secret." I'd recommend the usual smoked meats, pork shoulder or brisket. Last couple times I tried the chicken I was given an embarrassingly small breast, I'm more convinced it was a Cornish game hen. But the smoked meats usual of BBQ are fantastic. Personally I enjoy the corn as a side, buttery and terrible for you, but worth the consequences.

Great rub and sauce. Not a lot of seating, more aimed at catering and carry out. Had ribs and chicken. The slaw was real good too! I will go again!
