I wanted to like this place more, I really did. First off, I spoke with the owner, chef and brewer John who is a very friendly person...but therein lies the problem, one person has too much responsibility and it shows in the lacking quality of all items because the attention to detail cannot be given to each very important individual area. This place has the potential to be great. It is in absolutely beautiful old home. I love the way the interior is decorated, adhering to its original roots. The employees and management are genuinely earnest in their desire to deliver a good product...but they are simply not achieving it yet. Simple things could propel them further, such as: have chairs on the patio in front for people to wait for their tables. There is a beautiful patio outside on beautiful land, and it is wasted aesthetically and practically. Have a better area than the veranda of past the main door for customers to wait. Have a dedicated host, instead of whatever server has time to assist those waiting at the host stand in-between serving tables. The menu needs help also. There is not enough variety, and if no variety, then there is no chef's special focus - thus not doing either, it fails at both. The food which I had was well presented, but was not of the quality it could be. The service was slow, but well-intentioned. The brewery is a gorgeous stone building in the back which could serve as a special reservation area for customers, and the desire for to brew excellent beer exists, but the quality was lacking in nearly every beer I had. This restaurant, and brewery, could truly be a destination and well known throughout the region with some help. It has the customers - people were (uncomfortably) waiting in a line which led outside to be seated, and then waited a long time at their tables to served, and then waited... because they need more waitstaff, with professional training. I hope the owners read this review and use it to push themselves to a higher level which I know they want to be and can achieve with some more work and focus.

I went here really wanting to like this place. Entering we were seated right away at a table next to a window. For to the unseasonably cold weather we were a bit chilly. We waited 5 to 10 minutes before our cheerful waitress visited us. I think she might have been the only server as we saw no others. Given that she did a great job but needless to say service was slow as a result. The house brewed IPA was very good and our dinner entres were good and well portioned but nothing special.

I had the goat cheese burger and my gran had the black and Bleu. She loved hers and I absolutely think this is the best burger I’ve ever had. Fried goat cheese, jalapeño pepper jelly. Sweet and savory all rolled into one scrumptious burger. We’ll be back!

This IS my favorite restaurant in Beckley. Portions are generous, salads are fresh, goat cheese appetizer- wonderful, and the main entree of coffee ribeye was done to perfection. I love that they have seasonal menus. Service is top-notch and the chef is someone that knows how to create a memorable meal. Kudos!

We were so looking forward to try this place out. The menu appeared delicious and the intimate space was very appealing. Unfortunately, I never got to try anything as the waiter decided a couple was not as important as the large party sitting next to us and we sat there ignored for a while and then decided to leave.

Not sure what has happened to this once unique, quaint restaurant. The music is way to loud and does not fit the setting. The service has become woefully slow, especially when one is on lunch break. It’s a shame-Beckley has very few locally owned cafe/restaurants, especially for a lunch setting. But, due to our last handful of experiences, we will probably cease patronizing it, which is sad because the food is good and the place has so much potential.

So I'm trapped in the middle with this place. The beer was fantastic and the recommendations were really good. The appetizers were good, not amazing but good. I had the steak and it was just bland but not over cooked so it wasn't awful. Another person at the table had a pasta dish and didn't hardly touch it because it wasn't good at all. I guess if I came back here I would stick to beer and appetizers and not much more than that. Really wanted to like this place and it just fell way short. Beautiful location and building. Parking was easy and locating the building was easy too.

We used Dobra Zupas to cater our daughter's wedding on Sept. 5. Rebecca and her staff were wonderful! Their buffet layout was beautiful. It looked perfect and then we got to taste the food. We had eaten dinner at the restaurant previously which is why we selected them to cater the event. I have to admit I was a bit nervous wondering if the quality would be the same but had nothing to fear. Every dish was amazing! I'm not sure how they did it considering the reception was delayed, but they handled it with grace and added to our experience. Thank you Rebecca, it was a pleasure to work with you and I look forward to coming back to your restaurant the next time we are in the area.

While passing through West Virginia I stopped here with a couple of friends to enjoy a standard sit down meal. To our surprise we really enjoyed our experience at Dobra Zupas. While there I tried the Chef's Specialty Pasta dish consisting of penna alfredo with a light serving of duck confit. The dish proved to be a exquisite along with the pleasant customer service! I would recommend anyone passing through the area to check out the restaurant.

Don't go with a party larger than 4 , we had 8 and had to wait 45min. They need benches on the porch or somewhere to set while waiting others than setting on the porch. However the food is very good. The steak was excellent, burger was great, Mediterranean chicken very good. Love the roasted potatoes.

The atmosphere was intimate and unique. My veggie gyro and onion rings were delicious. My boyfriend's hamburger and fries were excellent as well. The staff was courteous. Highly recommend and will definitely stop here again if ever in the area!

What a gem in this little town. We were traveling back to Ohio and decided to stop and I'm so glad we did. The food was awesome!..and so was the beer selection. The pork chops were cooked just right and we're absolutely amazing!! The service was right on and so was the atmosphere. Very nice little place. I hope to make it back again.

I'm a Google Guide, and I travel across the state of West Virginia extensively and have been a patron of hundreds of Restaurants, from fast food to high end. I have picked up lunch here many times for clients in Beckley West Virginia. Every single time has been a nightmare for takeout. Today, I arrived 47 minutes early to pick up lunch for a physician friend and his office . After waiting more than 50 minutes I finally had our food. It would be another story if I was informed on how late it was going to be, and the darling beautiful young girl working by herself in the freezing cold restaurant had other customers to attend to, but I was told they were bagging up the order when I stopped by 47 minutes early. That was not the case. Lastly, if this was the best food on planet Earth where you had an orgasmic experience with every single bite I might also overlooked the lateness, even though more than 50 minutes late is not acceptable. Under any circumstance, I might add. The food is good, but just a notch or two above what you can get at chain restaurants like Ruby Tuesdays, and I am a connoisseur of fine Cuisine. I know this, because of the hundreds of restaurants that I patronize for my business. One last point, and I don't know why restaurants of this supposed caliber do this, but the gratuity was already added in. So for a lunchtime order I had a nearly $30 gratuity added in of which the wait staff actually probably deserved $7 of it. If that.... There IS a penalty for poor service. Plus, & 23 for a project chop PLUS gratuity?? Snail Service??? If you need a lunch to go, and you don't have to go anywhere, then it's a great place. Very Charming. Albeit freezing cold in the winter time! But if you need something picked up on time it's best to go somewhere else and save a few hundred dollars.

The crab fondue was great, all the food was wonderful especially the cornmeal fried catfish sandwich. They were very accommodating making a grilled cheese for my 16 month son even when it wasn't on the menu. Service was stellar

This place was a great find! Everything we ate was amazing which was the fried green tomatoe BLT w Phily cheesesteak soup. My husband had the NY pastrami w a salad. Excellent food. Great flavor. We had the bread pudding for dessert and I just can't say enough words about how awesome the staff was. Every single person was great! Highly recommend this place. We will be back!

My husband and I decided to try out this restaurant on a whim. What we found was not only the BEST food in our area but the very BEST treatment for it's customers. The staff at Dobra Zupas' are incredible--we are treated like royalty whether we are there for lunch or dinner (we are frequent visitors here). The coffee rubbed ribeye is perfection and the burgers are great. The dressings for the salads are made in house, the sides are superb. I could not say enough nice things about this quaint restaurant in a historical home--it truly is a gift to our community.

Great overall. Music was a little too modern pop and normal for a unique place. The menu was similar, perhaps due to the clientele but the meatloaf was excellent. Went also to try the house stout- the lunar was very good and I purchased a growler to go. For 2 adults and 1 child we spent under 100 including the growler and tip. Great places like these make a town.

Today, they had only one waiter that was running all over the place and couldn't keep up with the orders and requests as the place was a bit full. This whole scene seeing this waiter getting overwhelmed and not being able to prioritize has made me lose my appetite. This is a pity for this waiter as he was trying to do his best, but this restaurant needs to consider the work that is required for a service place like this.

Always great food in an intimate atmosphere. The daily chef specials are, in my opinion, surprisingly good and very different. The setting in a large, old beautiful house, makes for a cool dinner. They brew their own beer here and they have a good rotation of taps here also. Definitely a recommended place

One of Beckley's finest hidden jewels. Do not overlook this private owned restaurant. I was eating alone tonight so of course I splurged. I started with the cranberry walnut salad with a sweet basil vinaigrette dressing followed with a coffee rubbed ribeye prepared medium and hanging off the sides of the plate. The taste was exactly what you hope for in a steak but rarely get. Sides included green beans with bacon and roasted seasoned red potatoes. Washed it all down with a 16oz draft of Barker's Ridge craft beer. $35 and change plus a tip. Treat yourself or that special someone.
