REVIEWS OF The Mockingbird Restaurant IN Tennessee

Lydia Foraker

Real food and great service. Comfortable and friendly. Tired of the chain restaurants in town? This is a great place.

Mary J Oliver Wells

6 in our party & we all loved it! Quaint environment, so fun. Food was good, nice presentation, friendly staff. We get so bored with the typical chains. So I really enjoyed the environment & some foods that aren’t in most places such as friend green tomatoes. Rooms feel private, so catching up with old friends there was very nice. Nothing bad to say.

Craig Dean

Great food. Excellent service.

Arlene Powers

Food was so good so good! Service could have been better maybe don't sit in the bar area.

Jonathan Gibbs

Very cool down tempo, family style dining located in a beautiful antique farm home. Delicious menu that varies day to day and by the season.

Susan Ribar

Food is pricey. Interesting selection, nice server but no real appeal for the cost. Cornbread was less than mediocre. Spare ribs tasted like roast. Burger was good. Fries were a very small serving, but good. Despite the cost of entrees, there is no soup or salad included. Had to point out ice cream and syrup missing on the dessert. Lots of room to improve and make a name for themselves. For the cost, we will go elsewhere for now.

Virgil Oneal

We've been here twice without reservation and they always welcome us without a complaint. I love their Country Fried Steak with Green Beans and homemade Mash Potatoes, it is so delicious. The architecture is authentic and beautiful, it is said that this farmhouse is more than 150+ years old! I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back again.

Corey Fussell

Three stars , at best. Disappointing. The first time I attempted to eat here I stood in the reception area for just over ten minutes. I could hear voices in the back but no one came to greet me and there is no bell for guests to ring in order to get attention so I left. My family wanted to try it so we gave it another shot. Stood in the foyer for about four minutes this time and got discovered. Our waitress was loud and obnoxious. Just her nature. She wasn’t mad or anything. Took our drink order reasonably quick then we sat for fifteen minutes waiting for her to return for our food order. Finally, I went hunting for her. The food came within an appropriate time span. Overall, it was pretty good. I had the duck breast with some sort of rice concoction involving okra (ugh!) and other veggies. It was cooked right and if you like okra you would have enjoyed it. The remainder of our party had nothing but good to say. The fried chicken was especially delicious. The food quantity was a bid less than expected, especially considering the prices ( I paid $18 for the four slices of duck breast.) I might try them again sometime to see if my experience was a fluke. If you’re interested, you should give them a try.

This quaint little place is very nice. A relaxing atmosphere, good service and good food.

James W. Ricci, Jr.

Nice bar area and friendly service.

Patty Chappell

Exceptional service. Extremely clean. Best food in Spring Hill. Loved the atmosphere and the farmhouse is beautiful. The 1800 relics and Civil War relics were pretty awesome. I reccomend this place 100%. I will definitely be going back.

Buck Stodgers

Had a delicious meal here. Portions were decent sized, but for how nice the setting was, it was very affordable. And our server Kandis was a sweetheart, even giving us recommendations for after dinner drinks.

Georgia Wright

Stopped here in early June 2019, I ordered shrimp and grits and husband ordered red snapper. Both entrees were delicious. Dessert was even better !!! Happy surprise just a little bit off the interstate. Worth the stop.

Donnie Maddox

Good food nice place

Drinks and appetizers are great. The best prepared liver ever

I agree with all of the other 5 Star reviews! The Chef is Highly skilled! I admire anyone who works with him in his kitchen. They will get free gourmet cooking classes daily! This was our first time and we had an Absolutely fabulous meal! The many unique flavors, special seasonings, fresh ingredients and meats served hot made the meal the very best! I am grateful the prices were reasonable because we will continue returning. The complimentary fresh cornbread was flavorful, moist and with pieces of corn. The fried green tomatoes had a hard crispy fried shell with colorful vegetables & spices - unique! The generous serving of shrimp and cheesy grits were gourmet! The shrimp was not overcooked and the grits’ flavor was delightful! The server Suzie and the owner showed genuine care for us and our dining experience. The 1850 house had lovely paintings on the walls. We enjoyed the simple, clean and quiet ambiance where we could set the tone and not be overrun by distraction. The Mockingbird Restaurant is a rare find and a magnificent Jewel. It stands out among all the restaurant chains and “regular” restaurants. I look forward to trying the Duck with its special sauce next time! I encourage you to go and enjoy a Delicious Gourmet meal for a reasonable price! Great for special occasions, good relationships and family!

I'd give Mockingbird 4.5 stars, but that's not an option. I have to take a little off for the fish. First, the restaurant is a 150+ year old farmhouse. Beautiful and authentic architecture. Just seeing the building is worth the trip. The staff is very outgoing and friendly. My server patiently helped me go through the menu to choose my meal. I prices were reasonable. I started with the Brussels sprouts. I grew up eating plain old boiled sprouts that tasted awful (sorry mom). These sprouts were sauteed in balsamic vinegar and bacon. They were incredible! If that had been the whole meal I would have been very happy. I also ordered the fried catfish with cole slaw and fries. The fries were definitely homemade, as was the slaw. However, the catfish fillet looked too 'perfect' to have been breaded by hand. I suspect it came from a box. However, everything tasted wonderful, and I have no regrets over what I ordered. I will be going back there to try more items from the menu.

greg stevens

the meatloaf was the special tonight and if I would of thought ahead I would of got an order to go... fried tomatoes were outstanding and a great room atmosphere

J B

Amazing food! Very reasonably priced and the chef did not over season or under season anything. We had the ribeye steak, chicken fried steak, and steak tips and we were impressed with all of the dishes. Cannot wait to go back!

Donald Croley

Great food and great service. The shrimp and grits was awesome!

Brian Runions

Great place with a lot of atmosphere, the food was wonderful. They are very popular and very busy and very laid back. So if you want to enjoy a wonderful meal and take your time this is the place for you. We had a party of 16 and it was a great visit. B

Dave Shawver

Great chef preparation, quality food, not too pricey. Best in its class in Spring Hill

Kelly Harvel

I love this place! Great service and great food. Such a great surprise !!

Cindy McGhee

Loved the quaint quiet atmosphere where you could have conversation instead of loud music. Friendly waitress that seemed to have more tables than she could adequately tend to. Crab cakes were disappointing. Too much cake and not enough crab. Fried green tomatoes were good but could have been sliced thinner instead of the 3 thick slices served. Shrimp hush puppies were served piping but really couldn't taste the difference between them and a standard hush puppy. My friend had country fried steak. Very tasty and portion was large enough to share. Will be back because it was my 1st time and I want these types of restaurants to succeed. Love the concept. When we walked up there was little girl playing in the yard. I asked if she was the chef. She said, "no, but I wish I was." Maybe one day she will be. Looking forward to my next visit

dustin bradham

Good food! The red snapper was awesome! My wife had the shrimp tacos and she said they were awesome too. Also a really neat old house with some updates, for instance the A/C worked well but had exposed original beams.

C Nick

A dear friend treated me to dinner at this place. I am a fan. The food was great and the fact that the building was 100+ years old was fascinating. I will be back.

Mike The Mic Guy

Great food, excellent service, good prices!

Richard Chappell

Very warm and cozy place like your own home. Southern style food served by friendly and courteous people who share a little information about the history of the home. Doesn't get much better than this. Will return to this beautiful place.

Kathy Becker

Beautiful, and food was really good

Logan Smith

Food was great and loved the restaurant. Sitting in a decorated home off the beaten path, it's a quaint area away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Evelyn Mize

Delicious food and great service!! Best corn bread I have ever eaten, too!

B Lindner

We decided to invest a little time for a good meal on our long drive home. We're really glad we did and couldn't have chosen a more wonderful place for a delicious meal. Who could resist BlackBerry BBQ Meatloaf or a helping of southern green beans all made from scratch and undeniably fresh. The staff was welcoming and attentive. If you stop, don't miss the chance for some warm cornbread. The location is easily found and only minutes from 65.

Bobbi Nichols

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere

Joni Maliszewski

Wanted to try an unfamiliar restaurant with friends on Tuesday and we were not disappointed ! The menu had a wide variety of options and we all enjoyed our choices immensely! Pecan encrusted chicken was so deliciously prepared! Snapper was yummy and the steak tender and cooked to perfection! Love the atmosphere of the old farm house bringing back memories of my relative’s farm in Ohio. My only negative was the lack of personality of our server. A smile and a greeting go a long way. Approaching the table with “ do you know what you want” is not the way to greet a guest. It was a stormy Tuesday, not a busy Saturday. Regardless, no excuse. But we will be back for sure to try a Sunday brunch! We love non chain restaurants and this was well worth it! Oh and very reasonably priced!

Mike Fussell

Food was great, reasonably priced, and employees were very attentive.

G Pierce

We had a large group and the waitress was great. We didn't wait for anything. The food was delicious. Would recommend highly.

Mark Ricker

Best liver with onions and mushrooms ever!!!

Cheryl Foster

Nice cozy place. Only 1 unisex bathroom which given the size of the place is not enough. Food was good. My husband's catfish was overcooked but everything else we had was quite delicious.

Carly Normandin

Great food and neat old farm house!

Katie Day

Very unexpected. Sweet atmosphere, full of history. Great food. We had several appetizers and 8 different entrees... No complaints!!

Travis Brice

A beautiful restaurant with very friendly staff. This is the blackberry BBQ chicken. There food was cooked to perfection. We had the skillet monkey bread for dessert.

Paul Romain

My wife and I had an excellent dining experience. Staff was very friendly and on point with their service and the food was delicious! Will definitely dine here again!!!

Beth Ellis

The food was very good, a little pricey, but not terribly. The wait staff was accommodating, but no one seemed especially friendly. We sat in the bar area which was actually lovely, light and well decorated. The waiter asked if we'd like some monkey bread. Thinking that was their bread/roll before-meal offering that many restaurants provide while you wait, we said sure. (I scanned the appetizer menu and didn't see monkey bread on it.) Unfortunately, it was the only thing we had that was lacking, as it was over-baked and was a $7 charge we didn't intend to incur. I think, had the staff been a little more friendly and could we minus the monkey bread issue, I might have found it less difficult to have chosen 4 stars. Nice restaurant though and I'm sure we will return. Mainly upscale southern food for the most part.

Sheyla Zito

We had a great time choosing the place to host our monthly book club meeting. We sat in a almost private room with a very nice dinning table for 10. Decoration was uniquely special and the food and wine delicious! I had the salmon and the moscadine. Server was very friendly and service perfect.

Alan Walker

What a great place. It's based in a house built in the 1800's. The place feels so cozy, great staff and the food was like having grandma's home cooked food. I will definitely be going back there again.

Rocky Frisch

My husband and I had dinner here the other night and the food was AMAZING! Service was awesome. You can tell the people who run this put a lot of heart into it. We highly recommend The Mockingbird if you want a relaxing ambience and exceptional food.

Mandy Bass

Love, Love, love this place! Food is fantastic, very creative. Staff is very nice and attentive. Atmosphere is quaint and relaxing. You must try!!

Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Great service, fresh ingredients, and the best southern cooking I have found. Can’t beat it.

Tara Durlin

Love dining in an old farm house! The service was great, friendly staff. The food was fantastic too. Great date night.

Traditional Southern style restaurant. Built in an old house. Stylish. Food was ok

Walid Korkmaz

Good food and atmosphere

Kevin Yamada

Unique dining venue. Lots of history in the house. Food was very good. Dessert was great

Ann Williams

Love that they turned this beautiful house into a restaurant, it has a lot of character! I do not like eating breakfast out but The Mockingbird Restaurant is like eating at home! Fantastic food and our waitress Christine was super nice! We will definitely be coming back!

Brandy Jones

Wonderful food. A little pricey but totally worth it

Marsha Salee

Pecan crusted chicken w/mashed potatoes and asparagus is super comfort food! My grandson says best mac n' cheese ever❣

Erica Bridwell

I had shrimp and grits and it was literally the best I've had, and love the beautiful farmhouse

Anita Ayers

We loved the historic ambiance the food and service was great we will be back!

Robert Votteler

Had a great meal with a group of 10. Service was very good and food was excellent.

Trey Edwards

My wife used to own a very similar business, so we jumped at the opportunity to try it out when I found it on Google while we were passing through. Many places like this are big on theme and short on actual quality. The Mockingbird stunned with both. The location is incredible, beautifully restored and maintained. The food was delicious and flavorful. The only down side was slow service, but that's not uncommon and often unavoidable in such an unconventional environment. Will definitely go again if given the opportunity.

CJ

AMAZING PLACE. Phenomenal food, great ambiance. A must see place. Definitely will return the next time I am in Tennessee.

Sarah Rembiesa

Don't ever come here. Food is ok, but service is terrible. Walked out after an hour without our main courses.

allison5382

I don't ever review places but this restaurant was excellent. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. My husband had the shrimp and grits and they were the best I've ever had. So glad i went with chicken and waffles which were absolutely delicious! Perfect date night!

Alan Wiltfeuer

Place is very small amd their bathrooms are unreliable. Bathrooms still seemed operational since i saw employees using it.

Jessica B

The atmosphere is amazing but brunch is a little expensive for what you get (got a waffle for $7, definitely not worth it and very sparse eggs benedict with a small side of fruit), but tasted fine. A side of breakfast potatoes or something else would have been nice. Just okay overall, didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Probably won’t try it again.

kim johnson

The atmosphere was charming and the food was delicious!

February 2019 Update: Went to their prix fixe Valentine's Day meal. How they screwed this up so badly is impressive. I've been a repeat customer for a couple years and have usually been pleased. However with restaurants I have deal breaker experiences, and this is one for sure. Absolutely no service from our waitress except for 20 minutes AFTER we were seated, and 1.5 hours later for her to give us the hefty $55/person bill. During the time before it we had 4 other waiters and waitresses bring us the various courses and just one of them bothered to refill our drinks twice throughout the meal. Those drinks sat empty for 20+ minutes each time. Of the course items, only the first course starters were good, and I was happy with them. However after that it was entirely downhill. The tomato bisque was almost inedible with oversized chunks and a generally off flavor. Not to mention a completely stale bread stick that was very displeasing to encounter. My "seared beef tournedos" were actually unseasoned and charred plain steak medallions, and the waitress delivering them even called them medallions. Not the same thing. I'm also not sure where the taleggio sauce was, because mine was not served with anything I'd call taleggio sauce. Additionally my herb-roasted potatoes, while seasoned well, were obviously made long before they were served and were dried out from a heat lamp. To top it off, the grilled asparagus ended up being some unseasoned, steamed long green beans. When my waitress finally showed to deliver the bill, I inquired about the asparagus and she returned as we were leaving with a to-go box and a plate of grilled asparagus. I informed her I was already leaving and she said "well just take it home I guess". The swordfish, while cooked fine, had a champagne dijon sauce covering the entire filet. This wouldn't have been so bad had the sauce been balanced to be something other than what I can best guess to be bottled dijon mustard sauce. Completely killed the flavor of the fish. Rice was undercooked as well and quite crunchy for a pilaf. Dessert was a makeshift, sloppy trifle of sponge cake and instant vanilla pudding with mandarin orange wedges. Frankly I won't be back. This was a special occasion, there was not a full house by any means, and the fixed-price should have made for a competent, memorable meal. Particularly for $55 per person before drinks and tip.

Beautifully decorated, Old Homestead type restaurant...Food was great...

diane m

Went for Easter brunch. food was not good. there was a hair in the corn bread. no compensation given. food was luke warm at best. our bill for eggs and bacon and a burnt biscuit for 5 came to $172.00. Way overpriced. Won't go back.

Jason Lindsey

Been here 4 times and this was the first brunch. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation for the next one now.

Stacey Qualls

While the cocktails were very good, the food was overcooked. I ordered the individual skillet meatloaf. It was very dry. The mashed potatoes has good flavor but poor consistency. The service was good though. The environment was warm and welcoming. I'd go back again just to try something different on the menu.

Beau Crowley

Great food , great service !

Marion Ibsen

Unbelievable out of the way place. A must stop kind if place

Timothy Johnson

I went earlier tonight, had the most amazing server! Her name was Susie. The meal was excellent, prepared by chefs, I've heard before. My server Susie, was absolutely on point, very attentive and professional-- I would highly reccomend her if you go! Thanks so much for an awesome dinner, will definitely be back !

Dan Carroll

We went to their annual Lobster bake and it was great. Cool place with great looking menu. Historical farmhouse dating back to before civil war with a spiral staircase with steam bent wood. 1 of only a few in the country.

Gordon Rolston

Home style cooking.

Curt Kimball

An incredible restaurant. Historic, in an 1850 farmhouse. Service is great. The food is scratch prepared by a wonderful chef -- southern home cooking at its finest! We enjoyed the Chicken & Biscuits and the Steak Tips in red wine & onion sauce over white rice. Delicious! Also, homemade warm cornbread and very generous glasses of wine. Don't miss it!

Andreas Claesson

This place has a genuine southern family touch. Perfect for casual dining or date night alike. Great food and wonderful staff with great pricing as well!!

Val Thomas

Cute out if the way restaurant, excellent food and service.

Leslie Holman

Excellent meal of biscuit chicken pot pie

Donald Bingham

Four of us had dinner Wednesday night 6:30. Place was about 1/2 full. The four dinners were blackend Red Snapper, country fried chicken and two grilled pork chops, all were excellent and generous portions. Service was very good and prices were reasonable. I wish they had a craft beer on tap

Daniel Ibsen

If you are traveling south of Nashville and looking for some of the best fresh has to be home made food in an extremely open inviting and friendly restaurant you absolutely have to stop in! It's only 5 minutes off the freeway but be sure to plan an hour just to enjoy yourself in both the meal and the surroundings. This if NOT premade canned boxed and microwaved food, it's sit down getting caught up with an old friend over a great meal. I highly recommend the pecan chicken, it is what you will compare every other meal you ever have to, and be sure to order the skillet chocolate chip cookie for dessert. You can also get cocktails from their full bar I don't really drink much but there run and come went down pretty good lol

Scott Slippy

Cute place, nice atmosphere and great food. make a reservation if you can.

Jack .Massari

Casual atmosphere, good food, good service. What else would you want?

Ena Lampley

Great food!

Anton Jemiolo

I used to love coming here when they first open but they constantly close earlier than their posted hours.... I’m at the point I don’t even bother to try to come anymore because of this. However I made it for breakfast last month and unfortunately had a terrible experience, my potatoes with my country fried steak were cold and tasted a bit stale like they’ve been sitting out on a tray all day. My mothers eggs Benedict was cold too. Waitress wasn’t friendly about it either, I’m never the type to complain. However, I did this time and I didn’t appreciate the experience or way my concerns were handled. Unfortunately after many times enjoying this restaurant this is my third negative experience and last chance I am giving this place. We won’t be back.

Emily Scherrer

I went for Sunday brunch. Everyone in my party thought the food was delicious and the service was great.

Emily Rodgers

We ate at the Mockingbird Restaurant this past Friday night. The food was full of flavor and a good portion size. Unique items such as chocolate covered bacon was just as tasty as the more traditional country fried steak. The setting is idyllic, upscale southern charm farmhouse with a lot of history. Unfortunately, as wonderful as those things are, the service was unlike anything we had experienced before. We did not make a reservation, but I had called earlier to see if there was a wait - a perfect opportunity to ask if I'd like to make a reservation, but she didn't. When we arrive a few minutes later, the hostess asked if we have reservations and I replied we did not. She says she can seat us but a few minutes earlier we would have had to go on a waiting list. While she is gathering the menus for the two of us, another couple walks in. The hostess turns to them and asks if they have reservations - and they do. She proceeds to look them up in the reservation book (which took a moment due to a question about the name it was booked under) and then hands them off to be seated...with our menus...all before returning to our abruptly interrupted service. We were about to be seated when she stopped and helped them from start to finish before ever returning to us. I completely understand they had reservations but that does not justify stopping mid-stride with your current customers. By all means, acknowledge they walked in and let them know you'll be right with them. But to completely stop helping us and take care of them in their entirety was poor customer service and left us with a feeling of insignificance - a trend we'll see throughout the meal. We were seated in the bar. After a long wait, the bartender asked for our drink order - water and sweet tea. No smile, no pleasantries. She dropped the drinks off and turned around and left without a word. The rest of our dining experience was like this - long waits for service and unfriendliness. My husband's drink was empty for over 30 minutes. She did not clear the table of dishes we were through with, even though at one point I was literally holding a plate in my hand in the air while she was at our table because there wasn't room on the table-for-two to put the dessert plate...and she still didn't take it. We just ended up with a stack of dirty dishes. Weary of waiting for our check and knowing it would be a while before she checked on us, we ended up walking to the bar and giving her our card to pay. It felt like we were an inconvenience, a bother, which rendered the restaurant an air of snobbery. To further confirm that feeling, the servers we passed in the hallway while coming and going seemed to look right through you, no eye contact, no smile, no nod...no acknowledgement. They have done a superb job of creating a beautiful, stylish, modern atmosphere with good food. But sadly that is overshadowed by the shroud of disdain by the staff. The experience was off-putting and we are unlikely to return.

Nicole Henderson

This is a casual restaurant with a special menu. From filet mignon to fried pickles, the choices are extensive. Big on charm and service, the atmosphere was anecdotal and the food delicious. If you like to find a unique dinner rather than a big chain franchise, look no further!

Tameka Sanders

Service was excellent but food not very good. Sort of bland and lacked seasoning. I had country fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. I ate less than half my meal. Just not very good. The meal was less than $100 for three adults who each had an appetizer, entree and dessert. The desserts were a little over priced. My mom had a small square of strawberry cake for over $8. She said she was disappointed with the taste. I had the Mockingbird cake. It was okay. I didn't have anything to compare it to but it was bundt cake with pineapple, a few pecans and a sticky substance. It was a little over $6. The server was awesome and very attentive and did a great job which is the reason for three stars. Food would get 1 star.

Nicholas Iannello

Shrimp and grits were really good. Sat us at the bar which was fine for lunch time. Nice old house. Wait staff was good. Fried okra was really good but they don't use cornmeal (which I'm fine with but other might want to know). We will go again for sure.
