Best country fried steak -- cut it with my fork! Casual, welcoming atmosphere. This was my second time to dine here & I'll definitely be back! Walked right at dinner time on Sunday & got waited on promptly.

I ate there today w/my disabled father-in-law. He had country fried steak w/turnip greens & fried green tomatoes. I had fried chicken wings w/the greens & mac & cheese. The portions we received were huge, but more importantly, the food was delicious. Also, the staff was very courteous & attentive. We'll definitely be going back.

You talk about southern hospitality at it's finest. The waiter was cool af and the food was good. Now I didn't care for there greens to tuff, but overall it was cool to try real home cooking from Tennessee... But we from Georgia and there is a difference. Go DAWG!!!

First off, this place makes one of the best fried pork chops around, and that is not often an easy thing to find. I wish I could tell you more about the rest of their food, but I get the chops every single time I go. However, the best part about Herman's is the staff. They are welcoming and pleasant in a way that makes you want to return not just for the food, but also for the experience. If you find yourself near Brainerd Road and need a good bite to eat, stop in and visit Herman's. I bet you won't regret it!

Ordered online at 8:03 pm, was told food would be ready by 8:18 (15 minutes). Did not walk out with my food until 8:34pm. I ordered 2 sandwiches, fish and pork chop...not a time consuming order. There were about 6 to 7 other patrons in the restaurant at the time so being busy was not a factor. I got the pork chop sandwich first and had to wait 8 minutes for my fish sandwich. So my pork chop sandwich was getting cold while waiting on my fish. They are not ready for online orders, better off calling in your orders.

My Mom and I were looking for a place to eat near my new house, and after a previous disappointment in a "southern food" restaurant, we decided to try Herman's based on reviews and the online menu. When we got there around 6 there was only one other car in the parking lot so we were hesitant. Walking in, the place is nothing fancy. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. A small group of women came in after us. We sat there for a few minutes and it became obvious that the other women were regulars because they were waited on ahead of us while we were barely acknowledged and I was afraid this was going to be another bad dinner. The server chatted up the women and talked to them about oxtail, which I didn't see on the menu. I kind of butted in and asked about it because I love oxtail. He then came over and took our orders and became somewhat friendlier, bringing out a sample of oxtail for me. My Mom ordered the smothered pork chops and I ordered the fried catfish filets. I wasn't sure what kind of beans I wanted in addition to my Mac n cheese so I asked him to just being me whatever their best beans were. He brought out our food very quickly, along with the table that arrived after us. The portions were big. He also brought me sides of every bean they had! The only issue we had with the food was that there was quite a bit of fat and gristle on the one pork chop my Mom ate. We ended up taking home enough food for another 2-3 meals! And my catfish was amazing, both times!! I introduced myself to our server and told him I was moving about 5 minutes away. He said his name was Vaughn, and though things started slow, he ended up being very nice and told me to ask for him again. I'd definitely come back!! By the time we left the restaurant was very busy so I guess 7 pm is peak for them.

The food here is great had to order two different dinners. I live in Knoxville but will travel the hour and a half for a good meal. Mrs. Miranda was awesome she knew almost all the customers by name amazing. Can't wait to bring the family.

Food was not great, edible. The server was nice, I order the Grilled Chop steak to go, but it's more hamburger than steak. It was covered in mushrooms and very unseasoned. The Mac n cheese is decent, but you will be using your salt and pepper for everything. Tried my boyfriend's mash potatoes they tasted like they weren't finished defrosting. I may come back for the fried green tomatoes only.

Good food, but I went in and ordered, went back to my car and came back in 10 minutes later & I guess they forgot about my order. So the older lady goes back there, after handling my money, and put my fish sandwich together and everything else without gloves NOR washing her hands .. I KNOW she knows better than that.. just nasty

It amazes me how on some days I can order get my food in five ten minutes tops. Other days like today I ordered as soon as I walked in 40 minutes later my food arrives. I don't care to hear excuses and blame fix the problem. That's ok I'll take my $15 to $20 dollar lunch break elsewhere. My lunch sitting in the car getting cold after I paid for it and can't eat it. I'm so pissed right now.

I was in Chattanooga for training and looking for a place to eat before returning home. Herman's is definitely a place to recommend. The food was flavorful and authentic. I order the pork chop sandwich and still had one to take home.! Due to time I was not able to eat my dessert, but took it with me. I know it will be just as good!!

They were slammed when my friend and I came in, had a heavy to-go line the whole time. It was a sunday and they had a sunday special: Turkey, gravy, cornbread. And also, beef tips, gravy, on rice. I had the turkey, okra and mac and cheese. My friend had fried chicken, waffles, fried tomatoes, and mac and cheese. The sides and the dinner was all bomb, would absolutely go again.

I was very disappointed with today's visit, we are from Nashville Tenn and we had to stop because my mother loves Herman's. Going back and forth to Atlanta we have to stop and get her a fish sandwich. Today we was there when they opened and it took our food for EVER for us to get our food and people that came after us got their food before we did. My sister food TOOK FOR EVER, we was finish eating and her food FINALLY came and it was not correct what she ordered and we had to put it to go. I was unhappy because my mother really like this place but me and my sister said it was our LAST VISIT to this place. Very UNORGANIZED today!!!

I am an out of town visitor, and the fact that I had to wait for damn near an hour for some chicken wings is awful. Customer service is absolutely DISGUSTING! No one greets you, they are slow as hell and the place is old and unkept. I like supporting black owned businesses but I will not EVER be back here.

Herman's is very good southern cooking. You get plenty for your money. I usually order the Fried Pork Chop dinner w/greens and Mac and cheese w/corn bread. With this you get 2 large pork chops, ymmm. Also add your favorite cake, mine German Chocolate.

Terrible food and service. I ordered country fried steak with potatoes on top. Potatoes were from a box. My friend ordered meatloaf and the sauce on top was pizza sauce. The waitress never brought out our rolls or tomato and onions. Never be back!

I love this place! I hadn't been in forever and I was super excited to get back. They didn't disappoint. The staff was super friendly and professional. The restaurant was clean. The food was superb. Soul is correct! Catfish was really good. Fresh, obviously hand breaded, two very large pieces, Cole slaw and two sides... what more could you want? Friendly folks, fast attentive service with just enough Southern charm to make you feel right at home. Not many places around that actually cook any more. Enjoy!

Went here on a recommendation. Won't go back. Service was provided with a couldn't be bothered attitude we noticed across the tables. Powdered tasting sweet tea with a weird lemon zing. Instant tasting potatoes. Wings the size of your thumb, aka, tiny Trump hand thumbs. Greens with no seasoning, aka, out of a can. Green beans with some seasoning, aka, the same from the grocery store, out of a can. Fried corn was actually creamed corn??? Corn bread was OK. Fish was OK with bones but not sure what fish it actually was? Plus I coated it in Louisana hot sauce which was brought to the table thankfully. Country fried steak tasted like it was just coated in Bisquick. Steamed cabbage was OK for bland craving palates. Bland sums up the experience from eating at Herman's. If you think this is good soul food or southern food you've never ever heard of or tasted a dish from Edna Lewis! Amazon her books and cook at home. Then sit in the tub of tears you'll cry from thinking you ate soul food here.

Customer service was severly lacking even when the manager admitted they made the mistake in giving our food to the wrong table. For example our waitress submitted our order to the cook but another waitress grabbed our chicken wings for her table, knowing that order was not for her table. Hence 4 of us got our food while my mother and I had to wait for our food to be re-ordered. Finally my order arrived but my mother waited almost 30mins. before the waitress informed my mom to wait 15 additional minutes for her wing plate. She said proceed with the order but please send for your manager. The manager arrives with an attitude saying I can give y'all free beverages and a slice of cake....BUT no apology for his staff "screwing up". Next my mom explained this was very unprofessional and the manager verbally insulted my mom and our family saying that's all y'all want is a free meal. We reminded the manager we hired him for catering, HENCE we have mobey we were expecting PROFESSIONAL SERVICE!!!!

The service is quick and welcoming The were friendly as well. The food is decorated I had their chicken and waffles and it had great flavor. It may not look like much on the the outside, With few features to make it stand out but it makes up for it on the inside. Thescenery inside is very classy and decorative warm browns and reds.
