Piggy backing off of Patti Giomi's review, we have loved the food at Spotted Salamander and paid the higher prices to get take-out about twice a month for quite some time. We order take-out every day and no other restaurant has ever charged an 18% fee for take-out, no matter how many are eating. If others charge at all, it is minimal. We are not taking up valuable seating (according to other reviews), you do not have to pay a waitress to serve us, you do have to put our food in plastic, but you do not have to pay someone to wash our dishes. Bad business in my opinion and has left a bad taste in all of our mouths.

My favorite lunch spot. Great for a date or for a quiet lunch alone, which I normally do. Not only is the food delicious but the atmosphere is the best. Go in spring and sit on the covered porch that has confederate jasmine growing across the railing. It's even nice during a light rain. The neighborhood is beautiful and the staff is amazing. Different specials offered every day. Follow them on Facebook or Insta to see the daily specials. If you go for Fried Chicken Tuesday, get there early because it fills up fast.

My friend suggested this place for lunch and I had never heard of it but so glad I agreed to try it out! Adorable quaint and home feel and super clean. The waitress was quick and friendly and the service on point. And the food was AHHmazing! I had pimento cheese with bread to start and then the brisket sandwich. The meat was cooked to perfection and just melted in my mouth, and the flavors added to it were great. But the best part of my visit was the Crack Pie. You should try this place just for some coffee and the crack pie. I will definitely be going back and would definitely recommend this place!!! What a sweet find this place was!

Great setting to celebrate my nieces graduation from USC Medical. Service was great and food was very good. Only knock was the pulled pork on my daughter's salad was overcooked. Still recommend. I would eat there again.

When we walked in, the three of us asked "What's good?" Without hesitation, the man behind the counter responded stating "We make the best burger in SC!" to which we responded, "We'll take three!" As this place grows in popularity, so has the ego of the staff. At my last visit the service was slow, unprofessional and unaccommodating. I also had to send my food back (something I never do) because it was so unappetizing. Dining area is small and uncomfortable.

Cute place but does not cater to all races. 15 min after ordering food, was told they were out of a certain menu item, causing our entire table of 5 to reorder. The item they were out of, was then served to customers who came in behind us, as we were forced to wait an additional 20 min for our food. Although they were nice and tried to be accommodating, we felt as if there were to many of us for them to serve. Not coming to where we're not wanted. Owner never came to our table but to others.

When someone asked "Wanna go to Spotted Salamander" for lunch, the answer is YES! I went for a birthday lunch with a colleague. We were seated right away even though they were busy. We ordered two salads and I got the Tomato pie mac and cheese.I've thought about the tomato pie mac and cheese daily since I got it. It was super delicious. Everything was high quality and reasonably price and there was a nice variety on the menu.

I've been coming to eat lunch here about once a week while I worked downtown. I do love coming back every once in a while since I'm not. I've never had the same thing twice! They have a very culinarily creative menu! It's very good, I've never not liked what I've eaten.

This place is so close to my work I wanted to try it for lunch. I can walk here. Parking is all by chance...there seems to be no designated parking lot for this little place. After reading other reviews I was excited to try them with my husband. It was very packed...a good sign? But is also 1pm...there was no seating in the first little building and none in the connecting and we kind of just stood there trying to figure out if there was room for us somewhere. We were sat outside in one of the two remaining tables, we didn't mind but the flies were horrid! We ordered...finally our drinks...then finally our food, and still waiting on our drinks. I got the small soup and salad with added chicken and my husband a sandwich. True café food. When we finally got out food, my soup was in a little teacup...and cost $5.00! My little salad arrived with no chicken and out waitress no where to be seen as this was the case much of our visit. My husband got his sandwich and literally laughed out loud at its size, less than six inches for $14!!! I had to get up and track someone anyone down for my chicken. Staff was aloof, and carried themselves with annoyance. No one wanted to help or take the time to answer questions...like where was the bathroom! This establishment also complained about the trip advisor review I posted when we visited and had to resubmit it. I realize now I am not the only one who has these feelings about this hopeful place. I have also left my review on their facebook page as well as here and trip advisor. I loved the thought of this place but my co-workers and I will not be coming here ever. What a shame.

We have always loved getting the spotted salad & we pick up lunch there several times a month. It is always quick and easy and the orders are always correct. The last time we had an order to go, I was told that they were going to start charging a fee for take out. Today we were celebrating a birthday in the office & the birthday person wanted to go here. So once again we called in a to go order & was told the total not really thinking anything about it. When we got back to the office , we discovered that the take out fee for our bill of $92.57 was $16.66! I called & was told that the amount was correct. I feel like 18% charge for a take out order is a little extreme!

Had lunch here today! Could not of asked for fresher, tastier food! Every dish we tried- from the She crab soup, bacon deviled eggs, brisket sandwich, pimento cheese- was perfectly cooked and seasoned! Owner brought out a sample of a crab empanada for us to try, crab was so flavorful and fresh and the empanada shell was fluffy, crispy, but not greasy. Very tasty! Very quaint and welcoming ambiance. Staff friendly and attentive!

We love Spotted Salamander! I got a pulled pork sandwich that had slaw on top and it was excellent. We also bought a Milky-Way croinut, which was my first and hopefully not my last. This place is like a high-end deli with some of the most amazing desserts in Columbia. The shop is small but not too small and the interior reminds me of an old general store with walls of tongue and groove painted white.

Literally the sweetest waitress in the world but the manager is completely rude and tactless! I stood in like for about 10 minutes and then decided to call in my order to go, when I called the manager answered and told me he was too busy to tell me the menu (Which changes every day). He told me to "use the internet and hung up in my face" I came back into the shop and asked one of the waitress (who was very kind) to speak with the manager where the same man told me he could speak to me how he wanted. Customer service is key!

Spotted Salamander is one of the best food joints in the whole of Soda City! They've got a great steady menu and have different days (burger day, etc) where they offer rotating specials. I've had everything here from a salmon salad to a burger to an alligator hotdog. It's a little pricy, but the execution of the meals plus the incredible staff make it more than worth it. If you go, tell Katie I sent ya!

If you can stand crowds, the food is excellent. Their deviled eggs are fun to try and they have amazing cakes. I recommend the Spotted salad and the chicken baguette. Both very flavorful and unique. There are two places to eat including a house next door to the restaurant. The house is less noisy. Early and late meals are good times to get a seat.

Delicious southern comfort food! You'd be missing out if you didn't try this all homemade/local cuisine. The menu changes seasonally; specials change daily. They have daily deviled eggs, daily small plate specials, and daily mimosa or sangria flavors. They serve fine wine and fine food. Chat with your server bc they are such a treat every time. Also they cater many different types of events & they do a splendid job at keeping everything looking great. A lovely place for lunch. I had the Chicken Baquette with Broccoli Salad as my side. Delicious. My waitress was very nice, however, they were busy. As a result, she was waiting on too many tables and so was not as attentive as she could have been. I don't know if that was a temporary issue (example, maybe another server called in sick) or a long term issue. Either way, it was still a delightful experience and I will be back. Definitely recommend!

Super great food. Only reason for 4 stars is that the main building’s dining room is very noisy when full and there’s nothing in place to help muffle the echoing of everyone’s conversations. Not a huge deal but a REALLY great spot for lunch and an awesome menu.
