Had a very poor experience hosting out of town guests, ruined what was a local favorite of mine, and one of my top recommendations. Seated at 8pm on a Thursday night, drinks and apps come out in timely fashion and everything seems normal. Main course orders are placed at 8:30. Around 8:45, we are assured the orders are nearing completion, and order another round of drinks. At 9pm, we notice our server is actively avoiding us (we were trying to signal her over for another round of drinks and cornbread). At 9:15, we inform the host stand that we would like to have her visit our table. At 9:30, we had fed up and actively chased her down to ask for our check, as my guests were ravished and we had decided to eat at their hotel instead. We were finally able get our drinks and apps paid for and out the door by 10pm. Our server never brought a manager into the situation.

We went on Friday of Artisphere and had to wait about 30 minutes, but enjoyed the bar during the wait. We had BBQ shrimp as an appetizer which was excellent. My wife had a friend chicken salad which she liked a lot. I had the two way BBQ with brisket and ribs. The barbecue was okay. Our drinks were generous and a great bargain during happy hour. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We had a good time during our visit!

One of my favorite restaurants. You could fill up alone on the cornbread. Only thing is that the desserts aren't the greatest - not bad, just better options out there. The food, however, is delicious!! Savour every bite!

That was a bit disappointed last visit. Where in the middle of evening service hours specifically for prime rib. They were out. How can a place like this be out of prime rib in the middle of the evening? Ordered chicken as a substitute and it was dry. Seems hit-and-miss at this place.

We ate there on August 2nd and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the prime rib and I had the salmon. We went back on August 20th and my husband had the clam chowder. He described it like eating salty ocean water. The oysters we ordered were cold and had been barely fried. My leafy green salad was bitter and the ranch dressing did not taste like any ranch I've ever had. We will be back to see if this was just an off night or different chef.

The menu looked amazing and we were in town for a baseball tournament. We were the very first table seated when it opened at 11:30 and a hour later we were still waiting on our food. The manager never came to the table offered any apologies or to comp an appetizer or anything but the food was very good and very reasonably priced.

Fist time here. Food was great! Our server however, ruined the experience. She was very flustered and it really showed. Never said her name when she greeted us. She left a few times when taking our order because she was trying to get another table situated. She had no manners or any kind of table presents. She was way in over her head. She was very frustrated and blamed the kitchen for slow service and things coming out wrong. She had open conversation with other servers and food runners while taking our order, about things going wrong in the kitchen and with other tables. She had no emotion and her overall demeanor was she just did not want to be there. Her name was Lynn we had to get it off of the ticket.

This was the best experience we have had yet!!! It was our first time at this restaurant. We were greeted graciously. The Manager even came over and introduced himself and gave us recommendations. Which is wonderful since I am so indecisive! Our waitress was super friendly. Our drinks stayed full. And the food was AMAZING!!! Everything was hot and tender. We didn't wait long at all for anything. The Manager even came at the end of the meal to check on our experience. Simply wonderful and we will be back!!!

Four adults, three toddlers, and a 13 year old garbage disposal. No one went away hungry. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was extremely helpful. I highly recommend the beer butt chicken.

A really quiet, cozy and lovely place. You have to try the daily soup and the burgers, of course the salmon and the beef is super good. Enjoy the liven music and prepare to fulfill your sense of good vibes. Not to pricy and excellent quality VS cost rate.

The barbecue and sauces were some of the best I’ve had. The Mac and Cheese is great. The cornbread wasn’t very good, dry and crumbles easily. The food was very slow to come out and it wasn’t a full house. It took forever to cash out. It annoys me when wait staff disappears forever when I’m ready to go!

This restaurant was recommended by a local. It was delicious! The manager, who happened to have just started a week ago, was friendly and in formative. Our waiter, Troy was awesome. My husband had the dinner sized portion of beef brisket. It was super tender and had just the right amount of smokiness to it, along with a delicious rub. They have 5 different sauces to try. All of them were very good. But, the brisket was so good it didn’t need a sauce. It definitely could hold its own. I had the fried green tomatoes and a potato cake. They were crispy and very good. My only suggestion would be a bit of goat cheese crumbled on top of the tomatoes, would elevate this dish to a whole different level. The potato cake was really good. Crispy on the outside and delicious and cheesy in the inside. I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about the Bananas Foster! I found room to eat my half, all of it and wanted to lick the plate...but didn’t. I highly recommend this eating establishment! Great Food, great Chef, great staff!

Went for dinner as part of a large group. The service was good. I got a 3 meat combo with ribs, pork, and brisket. The pork was very good, but the ribs and brisket were average at best. The sauces and sides were very good. Not a bad choice for BBQ in Greenville, just not great.

The menus set the tone by being in such a state of delapidation that they left the hands smelling of mildew. The cornbread couldn't even be saved by a 'healthy' smattering of what they consider butter. My plate elicited a comment from my wife that it appeared someone had taken a bite from my ribs. I hope not, for their sake, as I'm relatively confident something plastic managed to make it's its way into the smoker, or whatever piece of equipment was used to cook them. The smoky taste was more akin to a melted flip flop than mesquite. I gave up after one. Meanwhile, the "smoke stacks" had managed to separate into factions of breading and onions. 1/2 star for them still being somewhat enjoyable. The briskets summoned questions of "when was this cooked/sliced and how was it held?" I'm of strong conviction the answers are "not recently, and not properly". Somewhere along the way butter had been introduced in a vain attempt to restore moisture into cuts of meat which more closely resembled jerky than something one could expect from the likes of John Lewis or a qualified pit master. My sole remaining hope lie in the loaded potato cake.... I found some semblance of solace in another item which was moderately enjoyable, albeit frighteningly bland given the assorted ingredients. Sadly, this too took a turn south with the last bite reminding me that bacon was an ingredient....undercooked, chewy, bacon. 1/2 star for being stuffed with cheese. My wife abandoned her attempt at the West end dip less than half way through. Citing ambient temperatures, blandness, and that the decision was made to the serve the sodium-free au jus in an impractically small condiment sized ramekin.

We had friends in town and decided to go to Smoke On The Water for lunch. The food was great especially the Friday special of fried pork chops with mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy plus fried okra. The taste was sensational. I am definitely going back to this restaurant.

Visited here after going to the farmer's market. Started off with deviled egg appetizer. Awesome. My wife had a sort of French Dip sandwich with prime rib, and I had a pork chop on the bone that reminded me of a lamb chop. Very good. Bananas foster desert, IIRC. We'll keep this place as a favorite. Definitely worth another visit or two or three or.....

Smoke on the Water is one of my favorite restaurants! My waiter Scott was phenomenal! He was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable about the menu! The Pimento Cheeseburger was delectable! My husband ordered the Pulled Pork and absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to go back!

My wife and I were very disappointed in this place. We had been recommended by a local we know and liked the good reviews. Unfortunately, we were deeply disappointed in the food. Our corn bread came out black and burnt and we asked our waiter for new cornbread we were told the kitchen may be out. We asked a different waiter walking by who brought us some within a couple minutes. My wife and I both ordered double plays to try the ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and brisket. Only the ribs were good. The chicken, pork, and brisket came out extremely dry like they were a couple days old. Prices were reasonable and the wait was good for a Friday evening. However, we wouldn't recommend Smoke on the Water based on the poor barbecue quality.

Great restaurant for lunch. The beer butt chicken was excellent. Moist and flavorful. Mac and cheese was the best I have ever had. My wife's chicken salad sandwich was also very good. Blueberry cobbler was outstanding. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Great location in downtown Greenville. Give Smoke on the Water a shot, you'll be glad you did! Update to my previous review- my wife and I went to Smoke on the Water again, and it was even better. 6 stars!

I have always been a huge fan of Smoke On the Water. Their complimentary cornbread helps to hold you over till your meal arrives, which I always thoroughly enjoy. My favorite is their Ribs w/ the loaded fried potato cake and the Mac & Cheese. Apparently, they also have amazing deals for Happy Hour. Give this place a try if you are in the area!

Nice dinner with prime rib, brisket, and salmon. All were good but not fantastic. Nice variety of sauces offered. Cornbread was dry and boring. The star of the evening was blueberry cobbler. There was live music while we were there which is great but it was way too loud in the main dining room, we were using hand gestures to communicate with each other.

I have been going to this restaurant since 2016. I always loved their service and atmosphere until recently. It was in January 2019 when I had dear guests from NYC that I took there. Unfortunately their brisket was very cold. I was very disappointed but did not complain. I just thought it might have been a mistake. About a month later, again, I had guests with me from Canada. And their food was, again, very cold. Definitely will not go again until I am sure the situation has changed.

We found this place while visiting Greenville and driving around to see the sights. After checking the online menu (which I highly recommend perusing), we all thought this had something for everyone. The location makes it very hard to find parking so it you aren't familiar with the area, be aware of that. When we walked in, I loved the ambiance. Staff was friendly and we were seated quickly. The menu is extensive and made choosing difficult because everything looked great. One complaint I have (and it's minor) is that the waitress didn't give us enough time to study the offerings. She came back to our table every few minutes and we felt rushed. However we did finally choose and waited eagerly. The waitress remained attentive, refilling our drinks regularly, bring cornbread ( very unique) and explaining the sauces. When our food arrived, we did have one mistake but it was quickly fixed and returned to the table. Everything was delicious, from the homemade pimento cheese to the perfectly cooked burger to the mashed potatoes. One dish had undercooked rice but the rest of the plates were great. Our waitress wasn't as attentive after our food arrived (it took a while to find her over the incorrect plate) but still came by. For the price, we definitely got our money's worth. I would absolutely return and try other menu items. If you're in Greenville and looking for a great spot to eat, this is a place you won't walk out hungry or upset you went .

First time visiting. Casual and relaxed atmosphere, very friendly staff (Kylie is amazing!), and really good food! We had a nice table at the window with a view of by-passers. The service was prompt, and Kylie took the time to answer a couple of questions since it was our first visit. We ordered the crab dip as an appetizer. It was really good, but not spicy at all. Both my husband and I ordered from the lunch menu. He chose the brisket, and I opted for the pulled pork. Both portions were just right. There’s plenty of meat; it was flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I had to try the loaded potato cake, and it was delicious! It was a really nice place to go, get lunch, and stay away from the usual chain choices. We’ll definitely be back.. and bring some friends!

Very Good Lunch. Parking is convenient, behind the building. However, the restaurant is elevated one story above the parking lot. There is a stairway beside the building that leads to the restaurant - there is no elevator. This could be a issue for someone who is disabled. However, once inside, the food was good. I had the brisket lunch plate that was very good. The brisket was flavorfull, but not greasy. The waiter brought canisters containing 5 types of sauce. I had the mustard sauce - it was good, The service was also good.

We were very excited to try this place out after hearing very good things. However we were very disappointed with almost every aspect of our visit. Our waiter didn't know the name of any of the salad dressings, my prime rib, which I had ordered medium, was closer to well done and when I mentioned it we were told that they were out of prime rib. My boyfriends food was cold and our waiter was fairly inattentive. Very disappointing to pay almost 45 dollars for a subpar meal and dining experience.

I ate here with my family for my birthday, and while the food was outstanding the service was incredibly poor. We waited 20 minutes for a table on a Saturday night, which wasn’t bad at all. I was thrilled to be seated so soon, but it took the waiter, Tommy 10 minutes to get his act together and take our order. Our appetizer came out fast and was amazing. We ordered the smoked wings and crab dip. For the next 30 minutes we watched as tables came in after us and were seated and given their food. Waiting some more, they finally brought our side salads out. Take on another 15 minutes we watched as the other tables finished their food and were just sitting there. Meanwhile it took us about 45 minutes to get our main food. The waiter was very disorganized and had no clue where or when our food was coming out. I will give this place a second chance because the food was so delicious, but if it takes this ridiculously long I will not be back.

Service was beyond spectacular. Atmosphere was great. One of my family's favorite restaurant's in Greenville, SC. Salmon cooked perfect for my boyfriend's daughter. My only complaint was my filet was more like medium well to well done when i ordered med rare. I will definitely get rare next time. Their was no pink at all in my steak. Food took awhile, but all in all enjoyed myself and so did my guests. Work out kinks in kitchen and will be a loyal customer as have been.

This is a good restaurant. A receptionist from the Main Stay Suites in Greer suggested it. The food had a lot of flavor, especially the ribs. I would suggest to put more peaches in the cobbler. The server (forgot her name) was very sweet and attentive.

Really great BBQ spot in Downtown Greenville SC. Great selection of meats. Four different sauces to choose from (I liked the mustard based Carolina sauce, my wife liked the more traditional sweeter sauce). Lunch portions are a great size. Beans were excellent. Great selection of local and National beers. Service was great. Can be busy on weekends, that is only slight downside. Even at 1:00, there was a 30 minute wait. But, it was worth it!!

Was told to wait 20 min. 1 hour later still had no service and the staff was very rude. After several waiters had dropped food and drinks on the floor which I can only imagine was the cause of all the bugs crawling throughout the restaurant. The temperature inside somehow manage to be hotter than outside. I’ve had their food before and it was okay at the most. I will never return thanks to a horrible experience with their less than professional staff. Out of all the amazing places in Greenville I’d suggest picking someplace who cares about their business.

As a former employee I might be a bit biased, for it was both the most amazing place to work most the time and yet other times quite the opposite (gets hectic because the standards are extremely high); but from an outsiders perspective it’s ALWAYS an excellent place to eat/visit. Staff is outstanding, food is delicious and prices are almost too low for the quality/quantity of food you get. Lastly, the atmosphere Smoke on the Water provides is exemplary and one of a kind, especially on a nice day, sitting outside, amazing local live music playing? Truly blissful... ...it does get busy at nights and weekends, so I highly suggest calling ahead to lessen the wait time!

I've been twice now and both visits were fantastic. My wife and I showed up 30 minutes before closing the first time and they not only served us but did a great job. We came early this time and received the same great service and fantastic food. We'll definitely be going back the next time we're in town.

The burger I had here was excellent; it was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Among the best cooked burgers I've had. However, I was firmly underwhelmed by the pulled pork, which I'd really expect to be good at a place like this. The sides I had (mac and cheese and the bbq beans) were good and the sauces are tasty, but it's really just the pulled pork that brought this to a 4 rather than a 5. Maybe it was just so busy because it was the 4th of July that they were on to a lesser batch of it.

I like the food because it really is good. I'm was astounded by the spinach casserole. I'm not big on spinach but it was a healthier choice so I got it and it was amazing. Will get every time from now on. But the service was a bit irritating (hostess more specifically) . We were told the wait was 45 minutes, and I thought, fine it's a holiday. But an hour later.i went to ask where we were in line and she said that they had text us 3 times. BUT NOW IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 45 MINUTES. I asked her what phone number she text and it was the wrong number -_- I understand things happen but if you are making ppl wait for 45 minutes the least you could do is verify the number you just heard. I saw another family leave in disgust after being told the same exact thing. I wonder if she "misheard" their number too.

Unique Aspect

The food was excellent! Cooked to perfection. I had the prime rib and it was tender and full of flavor. My girlfriend had bbq chicken and she loved it as well! Also, the potato skins with pulled pork are a must!

everything i have had here has been good. great happy hour specials and i cant say enough about the food. The portions are large so come hungry. A highlight for me whenever I come here is the different sauces they have for their BBQ.

MAKE RESERVATIONS FIRST!!! Before you do ANYTHING stop inside and register FIRST! THEN you can do some shopping! The waitress we had was wonderful! The food was Excellent! The fries were GREAT AND I don't really like fries. They were crispy even after they were turning cold. The food was hot when served the only thing that was luke warm was the cornbread they served while you waited to get your food. Overall I gave my first visit five stars! Service was great and we received our food quickly. Can't wait to go back again!

The "call ahead seating" idea sucks! You have to call at specific times and they put you on a list for the first available table. I don't know who decided this was a good idea (versus allowing me to reserve a table for a specific time) but it's clearly designed to suit the restaurant and not the customer. They've just lost my business.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Greenville. They have an inviting vibrant atmosphere and delicious food. The service is usually great as well. You won’t go wrong if you order the brisket. I also highly recommend the spinach and squash casserole. Parking can sometimes be tricky, as there aren’t many garages at this end. There’s a lot behind the building but don’t expect to find a spot if it’s a Friday or Saturday evening. They catered our wedding and did a great job. It went seamlessly, and our contact was very helpful and accommodating.

To start the corn bread was really dry so as soon as you bite into it half the piece is in your lap. For dinner we had the double play which we chose pulled pork and pork ribs. Both were under seasoned but we're tender. Sauces and baked beans were good. Brussels sprouts were soggy. Deviled eggs were also under seasoned. Service was great and beer prices for Saturday at 5 was awesome.

It was my first time in Greenville and I’m so glad we came here. We came on a Saturday and this was the busiest restaurant in town so there was a wait, but the hostess gave us a realistic wait time and accommodated our needs faster than expected. Our server Thomas was quick, knowledgeable, and very attentive. For the food, I recommend getting a combo plate if you’re coming in for some delicious bbq. Brisket was tender and ribs had a lot of good flavor. For your sides, get the potato cake or spinach casserole. You won’t regret it!

Where do I Start. We get sat out side in a hole, the umbrella was torn to shreds. I let that go. But then we waited for 15 mins for the waiter. After that they brought out some super dry crumbles that slightly resembled corn bread, it was super dry! The entrees were very mediocre I had the triple play, the table also ordered pulled pork and pulled chicken, also the trout. The smoked entrees were good but everything else was sub par. And that’s after a table that was sat after us got their food first. The service was also sub par. Their was a clear miscommunication in the staff. The mimosas were non flavorful and flat. This was my first time here but also my last. Don’t let the pictures fool you the food is not that that great dry and flavorless.

We hadn't been to Smoke on the Water for some time and were pleased to find they were still serving great food. Our waitress, Morgan, was fantastic. She enhanced our dining experience. They don't take reservations, but you can sign and they call you. Luckily, they very near Falls Park and it is a pleasant stroll before dinner.
