Awesome old school counter where the atmosphere is is as warm and inviting as Mel is herself.
Great breakfast and lunch spot.
Small place with a handful of indoor seats, decent sized patio, and open kitchen right up front. Very homey experience, fresh food, entertaining and friendly staff. The prices of the food are really reasonable and the food came out fast! My bagel breakfast sandwich completely hit the spot. Absolutely suggest popping thru this place for coffee and breakfast whenever you’re in Philly.
Best place to grab a small bite. Amazing buffalo chicken cheesesteaks and anything breakfast related. Oh yea, and the Thanksgiving Special!
The JC sandwich was out of this world good. Great food.
Fantastic every time. Size: Small place so call ahead for pick-up and takeout because finding a seat is tough. However, if you do manage to sit at the counter, it's a great place to watch the bacon sizzle. Staff: always sweet and courteous even when they are in a rush Food: the best part, Any breakfast/brunch item will do the trick. Personal favorites: French toast and biscuits and gravy
Great food made with love!
Really glad that I happened to stop by Mel's Kitchen with a couple of friends this morning. The food was excellent, and the crew treated us like family. This is the perfect, humble, unpretentious diner with great food and a great attitude. Even the other customers were friendly. It's definitely worth going a little out of your way. They also had a nice deck with outdoor seating.
The food and service at Mel's are great! I will be back.
Best Italian hoagie I've ever had
Friendly people and awesome food. I love small diners and this location fits the bill. They also deliver.
Good food fast for a fair price
Great food, nice little hidden gem
Great food and great service. The "house" is amazing......
The food here was absolutely yummy! I would definitely recommend this Resturant to anyone visiting the Philadelphia area!
This place is great, food is great, you get alot of food on your plate. The owners are wonderful people.
Fast, great food, really friendly service.
Great food. Try their breakfast bagel with the Green Dragon sauce.
Great as always. Busy place that does a great job catering too.
Good food
Real good food. Real good people. Best food in town.
Hearty and delicious every time. It's straightforward and welcoming, with indoor and outdoor seating. It's tiny but cozy!
Great food at good price with fantastic service....
Cool little diner. Food is really good and service very friendly. Had “Mel’s Big Breakfast” with pork roll. I’d recommend it. The place is very small. Can be hard to get a seat.
Had "The House", it was delicious! Whomever thought of a cheesesteak omelet is a genius.
The food is like homely cook and taste great, staff is super friendly I would have give more star if cloud ..#cheersgreattaste
The best coffee! Every breakfast plate is delicious. I've enjoyed every item I've ordered so far. The staff is friendly even during the morning rush on the weekend. When they're not busy they're easy to talk with if you want to sit at the bar. Did I mention the coffee is great?
Great family run local spot. don't ask for canadian bacon... we do pork roll out here.
Just had a slamming breakfast !! Eggs Benedict probably the best I've ever had. Homefries so good. Guys go here its like clean-your-plate worthy. The place is so tiny and you can see them cooking. Its always the little places like this that make the best food. Ill be back for sure.
Love the food and the crazy staff. Both will put you in a great mood.
Great for a quick bite to eat!
Horrible service and horrible food. Eggs weren’t even cooked and they refused to fix it or refund the order. Eat somewhere else
The manager in particular was very rude. The workers are just as rude with terrible attitudes
They make such good breakfast sandwiches and mostly everything I’ve tried has been delish!
Mels is a small cafe style place in a off the beaten track location that offers off street parking, outside dining and the best breakfast and lunch dishes you could want. The fresh turkey club is my favorite!
Good breakfast spot not expensive tasty food didn't try anything else but they got a menu check it up
Yum! Cholula sauce:D Great breakfast! Thank you!
Thawing out frozen bread for a sandwich is a no no.
Good food. Non dependable delivery service which sucks in a town with scarce parking. For that reason I go elsewhere.
A little breakfast spot on Umbria st. It's off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Warm friendly staff large portions and great prices. Mel's does catering as well. Check it out
The best homemade breakfast you'll find in Roxborough.
Delicious breakfast food and friendly staff!
This place is disgusting the people preparing the food don’t use gloves to prepare the food. The food made me sick I don’t know where those hand had been and to top it all the place is filthy.
Great burger
Not good to look at, but really good flavorful food; sort of like a stationary food truck. Engaging staff - even corrected the faulty directions I had on my phone!
Small, smells greasy, good food.
Great place to grab some breakfast staff is so Delightful and friendly
I had a customized omelette and home fries The omelette was cooked just right, the home fries were delicious, and even the bread was great (it was Baker Street bread). I sit at the counter when I come here, because the table seats are backless, which wreaks havoc on my back. Mel's is a busy place for breakfast, but the staff and service are always above average.
Best place to eat, staff and food amazing. Need breakfast lunch or dinner from 2 people to 100. All homemade food too hard to decide on favorite thing on the menu.
Very cheap brunch place! It's pretty informal and not very organized/polished, but it's good food at a great price.
This joint should be on triple D
Mel catered an event for my family- fed 50 at a good cost with wonderful food. Thanks Mel's!
Great spot
Fantastic! Great staff and great food!
There are greasy spoons and there are greasy spoons. I'm only through at breakfast. Coffee's hit and strong. They egg, cheese & bacon on a muffin is awesome.
Great little spot! Amazing food
Average breakfast spot. Set your expectations at midgrade dinner food and they will be met.
Service was good. Very small seating area. Pricing was on par with the area but the food was undercooked. Potatoes were raw. Cashier had an attitude when I asked for a receipt.
Just had the Hog Heaven and it was great. The staff was very nice and conversational. She treated everyone who walked in nice and knew there orders. Small and nice. Price for sandwich was right on and was filling. I'll return if I am back in the area again.
Great atmosphere!! Great food!! Awesome people!!
Very good food, nice employee's, food comes out very fast
Great atmosphere and excellent service!!
Excellant food, nice people, tiny place with limited seating and parking. You can order and pick up though.
Great food good atmesfer awesome staff
Nothing groundbreaking, but good food and great service. Can get crowded, so if you don't won't to deal with people, go at an odd time.
Came here the 1st time for a breakfast sandwich - pork roll, egg and cheese on a round roll. It was perfect. 2nd time for lunch, just now, I had the TAB - turkey avocado, bacon on multi-grain. Basically a BLT with thick sliced turkey, applewood smoked bacon and homemade chipotle mayo. Again perfect.
Mel is awesome. It's like having your mom make you breakfast.
Just what the doctors ordered after a night in the city. No card under $10 but well worth it
Food is amazing
Excellent service from friendly folks! The food is affordable and delicious. Small space but comfortable.
Nice, quaint place. You can sit down for a quick cup of coffee or relax to a nice hearty meal.
Good and cheap.
The food and service is good
Food is pretty good. Not fancy which is fine, but it's really crowded loud and hectic so service is hit or miss.
Great lil family owned restaurant. If you want quick personal service and great affordable breakfast this is your kinda spot. The pancake special and a huge overstuffed meat sandwich called the hog heaven filled my wife and i for the day. Will definitely stop by again the next time we are in the area.
Food is really good for the price, but it's a popular local spot so expect it to be a bit crowded at certain hours. Has indoor and outdoor seating.
Very accommodating to my diet, great atmosphere
I loved this place. It's very small I inside but ironically it makes it feel more homey. A very family like driven atmosphere, the staff are very friendly! The food, absolutely delicious! Interesting menu options, not just plain or boring diner food. Highly recommended!
Great veggie burito, with everything as side, n wheat toast
Good service!
Great hole in the wall
Great coffee, casual atmosphere, pretty crowded on a weekend morning, but good food and nice people.
They've switched chefs and I'm not happy.
Thanksgiving sammich on a long roll... A little taste of heaven. Been eating there since it opened, never, ever disappointed!!
Great food made just for you. They will personalize any order. They friendly and make you feel at home.
not good.kid cooks. place not clean. Hamburger is only good thing. prices high for a hole in the wall
Sat at the counter and enjoyed the banter between the cooks. Freshly made and good food at a reasonable price. Will be back again if I'm ever in the area!
Food was edible, nothing amazing.
Great food great price!!!
Clean, food taste like home made. If you make good food at home. Service is great.
Food was delicious
Best people ever there. Excellent food. Affordable.
A tiny family diner that it took far too long for us to discover. Great food at a decent price in a cozy atmosphere.
My favorite breakfast place! They even have a punchcard; after 10 purchases you get one free! Great perk that keeps me coming back!
If your looking for a fancy restaurant this isnt it, but if you want a good breakfast and friendly people your in the right place. Food is great and plenty of it and the prices are reasonable. They serve breakfast all day everyday.
Fantastic sandwiches - order ahead to skip the wait!
The service was great! The older woman who served us was lovely. She was funny, nice and did more then she needed to. My mother got two eggs over med. Bacon extra crispy, white toast and potatoes with the peppers and onions. Overall she said the eggs were cooked perfectly, but says the potatoes were seasoned so well that it didnt need the additional peppers or onions. I had the eggs Benedict pictured above. They offer it with deli ham which I am not a fan of. I substituted with bacon instead. It was topped with fresh scallion and small diced tomatoes, also fresh. I thought it was great. However, I also got the peppers and onions and also think the potatoes taste delish as is. Small place but very homey. . We were lucky to go at a time when it wasnt crowded at all. It also was nice to see the cook cooking out in the dining room. Open kitchen, I always like to see how clean or dirty as I work in the industry. He also told us to have a nice day! Just good vibes!
Good for a stick to your ribs meal. Nothing fancy.
Good prices. Really delicious home cooked food.
Awesome, great food, great price, great people. Small place yet quality meal
Breakfast platter! Delicious
Nice "homie" vibe. Quick turn around on food by comparison to other lowkey spots. It was nice!
Great food! Great service
Best Breakfast spot in Rox/Manayunk hands down. Top 3 burger as well.
Pancakes were okay nothing to go crazy over. Prices were very good paid $20 for a short stack pancakes and French toast, along with a full stack pancakes with scrapple. They are very busy and you must allow time for your order..
We go here all the time...best breakfast around.
Good food. Made from the heart.
Always excellent. Their breakfast is interesting and delicious. I don't make it here enough.
They don't listen. There food is poorly seasoned. I got huevos rancheros and specifically asked for no refried beans. Of course they added refried beans anyway. And the rest of the dish just tasted bad. The eggs and the sour cream tasted off. My sister had undercooked bacon and hair in her food. You're better off going to Starbucks.
We love Mel's because we can get exactly what we want, not the standard menu. Do want more or less of something , just ask. Plus the people, sometimes there should be a cover charge. Love it Phil
Great little spot in a really easy to miss location. Fantastic service and atmosphere. The food is excellent!
Dining in is wonderful. Food is good. Ordering out was a horrible experience. They forgot to deliver syrup every time. I had to eat french toast with no syrup. I ordered eggs sunny side up and there was a soup of yolk covering my whole entire meal.
Affordable, fast, and friendly; can't ask for more in a local breakfast nook.
The only thing better than the food is the people serving it up!
Called in the order and was told 30 minutes. One hour later we received our food and was shorted change on our order from the hostess and was not even told. Food was ok at best.
Awesome big portions, great coffee, friendly staff and best of all....inexpensive!
My friends and I were visiting Philly from out of town. We visited Mel's Kitchen for breakfast. Upon receiving our plates, my friend discovered a DEAD BUG in his food when he poured his syrup onto his pancakes. The cook/waiter guy did not even APOLOGIZE for this disgusting ordeal, and rudely took my friend's plate and brought back a poorly presented second plate, with less food on it. I thought the fly must have got caught in the grease they cook with, but we realized the fly most likely came out of the syrup bottle THAT ALL 3 OF US USED ON OUR FOOD. Upon soliciting the owner Mel, who was frazzled and disheveled and doesn't seem to know how to operate a restaurant, and explaining to her the dead bug in the food– She SCREAMED at us "I know there was a dead bug!!! Why didn't you say anything until the end?!?! JUST GET OUT!" — We have never been treated with such blatant disgust, disregard, and lack of hospitality. Not to mention, my French roast was HORRIBLE- eggy, doughy, and flavorless.
great food and service. we like to stop here on our bike rides for late breakfast or early lunch.
This is the second time we've had problems with our orders. The first time We ordered my food was not prepared how I requested, and my family's food was just plain awful. We didn't order from them for a long period of time, and this morning we decided to give them a second chance. Well, my order was missing homefries(this is the second time) after I emphasized twice that I wanted a side order. I even made her repeat the order back to me, and she included my side order of homefries. After I picked up my order there were no homefries, my pancakes were burnt, my grandfathers eggs were not cooked the way he asked, and his homefries were flavorless and not the least bit crispy. The only thing they got right was how they cooked his toast. I called each separate time this occurred to let them know how dissatisfied I was with both orders. The response from the manager was basically "I'm sorry we'll work on it." They offered no compensation, or discount on my next order. The management did not put the customer first, and it almost seemed that they couldn't care less that my order wasn't how I ordered it. This place is terrible, and is not like what it used to be. I hope this review helps anyone who is considering ordering from here. Hopefully whoever reads this will go somewhere else, and save their money so they don't waste it on overpriced, below average food. And hopefully the owner won't delete my review, and allow people to read this and decide for themselves.
Food is great... service even better
Food was awesome! Service was fast. Cozy place.
Small place but the staff is friendly and the food is great.
Clean, bright, friendly, and reasonable.
Best breakfast sandwiches in Manayunk/ Roxborough hands down!! Crab corn chowder is banging as well! Still have a lot try on the menu but everything I have eaten there has been delicious! Super friendly staff and the price is right - What more could you ask for?
Best breakfast in town. The staff are wonderful and we always feel welcomed. Always enjoy our experience, good food is always worth the wait.
Made this out of town person feel right at home, and the food was delicious
Good prices and food. Very small space for seating so expect to wait on Sundays and prepare for cozy seating.
Nothing fancy here. Very down to earth "Joint". Good food nice people. Strictly a dive but a good place for a quick bite at the counter for breakfast or lunch
Mel's big breakfast is hands down the best breakfast sandwich in the city.
The food is great. The only problem is that it is small without a lot of seating.
Great place to grab a quick bite, especially if you are woodworking nearby on the Philadelphia woodwork as I am. Breakfast everyday and very good sandwiches and burgers as well as soups. Quick service
I love going here when I'm in the area. The food is good a little on the expensive side but, well worth it.
Everytime we order from here, the food is delicious and flawless. Their brunch is absolutely to die for. I've never dined there because it's a small establishment and is always packed, but their take out service is perfect. Everyone who works there is very friendly, even when they're busy. As soon as you walk in they make sure you're taken care of. I've never had an issue with service or food there!
Nice cozy atmosphere
True breakfast haven. This small, but traditional and cosy place is dominated by the kitchen and the bar/counter, which fills the air inside in breakfast-tasting loveliness. The staff is helpful and kind and their food outright amazing. Seating is very limited, so you have to be lucky or wait a little to grab a table.
Beefsteak was delicious!
A hidden gem of Manayunk/Roxborough tucked away back on Umbria st. Excellent diner food for exceptionally cheap prices. Inside is tiny and crowded but has a great homely feel.
Favorite place to eat breakfast or lunch any day of the week. Regularly crowded but worth the wait
Lunch included open face turkey with stuffing and corn crab soup. Both were prepared and presented in a professional manner. The soup had a great crab flavor and was spiced just right. The turkey and stuffing were as good as reported. This was my first time as a customer. As a community we need to support this restaurant because it appears that they prepare all of their food from scratch on the premises.
Great food! Great service! Keep up the good job Mel! Highly recommended!
Good prices and good food. Love the double down. Seating space is limited though.
great food. great service. vegetarian friendly. nice atmosphere. tight seating.
Unimpressed! I went there for the first time today and will never go back. I wanted to have a nice Sunday sit down breakfast, but there was now where to sit. They put a few tables in that tiny space and that was too many. People were basically sitting on top of one another. We decided to order breakfast sandwiches to go. Big mistake, we just should have left. I had to wait 15 mins for a smashed under toasted everything bagel sandwich with burnt bacon. For two terrible bagel sandwiches and two orange juices the bill was over $17.00. What a rip off! Save your money and go somewhere else. I should have went to Manhattan Bagel.
Food is awesome, small spot, always busy! Don't be surprised if you can't get a table right away during peak hours!
good brefest samiches and strong coffee
Very friendly. Fast, efficient service. Good food.-- A couple of young guys working hard n doing a great job.
Cute little place with friendly staff
Friendly and good food
Philly style breakfast joint awesome staff cozy great food check it out
Horrible place, and terrible people, also the leftover food is recycled into a new meal so dont be surprised if you get sick after eating there, their recipes suck and the owner can barely function and seems like shes on sedatives, sorry but this place suckkkkkkks
I found this gem by accident the food is great fast service is your normal corner breakfast store mel owner has a great attitude
Solid brunch spot just outside of the main manayunk stretch. It's not my favorite, but it never disappoints. Prices are good, and there's usually not a wait unlike the usual brunch spots on main Street.
Excellent customer service, great food, very reasonable prices, and outdoor seating.
Friendly staff,,,fast service,,,great quiet diner
Great staff - very friendly and helpful. Great menu - lots of choices and everything can be made your way. Great food - haven't even come close to trying everything, but so far everything's been delish. Great prices - very reasonable, even kinda cheap. Atmosphere- yeah, it's pretty cramped, but mostly because there's so many people coming in. I like the feel of the place. But if you don't go for that sort of thing, just order takeout and have a seat at a table out on their deck.
Yes, I've been going to Mel's for some time and I've always had an amazing meal! The specials are always interesting! I really love their food! Hands down best pancakes ever! The owner is super friendly and makes u feel like you've known her for years. Sometimes the waitress hasn't been the best, but definitely, has showed improvement! The 'to go' service isn't the best because it's sorta' all thrown together with missing packets of syrup and messy dishes, but still decent. You're better off eating there instead! The place is in fact, a little too small, but on the other hand it does provide a cozy, Ma and Pops atmosphere! Overall, I would Highly recommend!
Huevos rancheros was tasteless. The wobbly two-top, seen in main picture near blackboard, I had to asked to be cleaned again, after I sat down due to less than adequate work done by the staff in prepping tables for customers in a restaurant that only had one other couple sitting at the counter. My drink was served in a glass that had vegetative matter in it. The soda machine look filthy as well as the soda cooler. I ended up leaving mid-meal due to these factors and would not suggest for anyone to visit this establishment in an attempt to quell their hunger.
