As you know, we do not usually bother to give reviews when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Catering is included in the category of American restaurant.
Always fresh and local
Pork Belly Sandwich (minus the bread). Fantastic flavor in both the kimchi greens and pork belly. Would have this again! Fried cheese curds were good, with a light salt to tease the pallet. Wished the macaroons were gluten free!
We had the absolute pleasure of working with Valley Commissary on a recent weddings. As the owner of wedding planning company I work with multiple catering companies. Valley Commissary impressed my team throughout the planning process and day of the weddings. Jesse (chief) has a true love for food which shows through, whether during a tasting or on the plate in front of his guests. The food is not only delicious, but beautifully presented with their trained and professional staff. Their events manager Erica is organized and friendly. We highly recommend this amazing team for your big day & if you happen to be in the McMinnville area you can pop right in to their beautifully designed restaurant to see for yourself!
Our first time here today. The food was outstanding. Seasonal and local. Lot's of choices for vegetarians and meat eaters. The service is the best in McMinnville. We will be going there again and recommending it to friends and family.
Always a great meal
If you like super delicious and eclectic dishes, you need to check this place out!
Delicious gluten free options. Great location to pick up food to go, right on the busy Lafayette Ave.
Great space, fine food. The seating is spaced around the open kitchen under a high ceiling. It's all about the food. I hear their catering is in high demand.
I love this place! Food is very good quality and flavor is perfect. Nice friendly environment with super nice staff.
Had a great breakfast there this morning with my family. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was exactly what I was looking for
It's ok, small portions, expensive , porkbelly sandwich was good.
Love the pork belly sandwich made into a salad! Freshly prepared dishes high quality ingredients. Great service!
Great food (breakfast & lunch) lovingly crafted by super nice people. Highly recommended for catering too!
03/16/19: 4.5 out of 5 - It's been a long while since my last visit out to McMinnville. The Valley Commissary was a wonderful eatery. Surprisingly spacious. The staff are very nice and accommodating. Great recommendations from them, as well. The food, for the most part, was very tasty. The Cheese Curd and Pork Belly was a great balance. Definitely a great suggestion to try once and to decide for yourself. I believe you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
Yum! I follow the keto diet and this is one of the few times I have ordered off a menu and not had to ask for any special requests. My non-keto friends enjoyed their food too. We'll be back when in town. Thanks for the delicious lunch guys!
By far my favorite restaurant. Chef Jesse has an amazing talent for blending flavors. He often has specials that would be two to three times the price if served for dinner at a fine dining, linen tablecloth type restaurant. Yum!
Quality is good and dishes have a very hand made vibe. Portions are modest and a little under seasoned. I think they would do better if they added a little more to every plate to make things pop both taste wise and visual. Some plates were very empty looking. I would go with quick pickled red onions or green beans, more salsas or house made hot sauce or even toast or small salads with some dishes.
I'll be going back, I enjoy the atmosphere and food.
The beet salad....to die for. Fresh ingredients & unique food combinations makes for a perfect eatery
The Berger is out of this world!
Good food. Friendly service. It was great food selection when you're from put of town and want better than fast food
Great food and people. Definitely not boring - very creative. Jessie is extremely talented. If you're visiting Mac, VC is a must.
This place is the best!
Food is always spot on, and the service is friendly and welcoming. A must try if in the area.
Not exactly my cup of tea. Might be a better place for vegetarians. Good service and ambiance though.
Great food and service.
This place is a great location in the middle of town. You might need to look for it, but when you find this little treasure you will be very impressed. Service and food is always fresh, hot and amazing for the taste.
Always delicious and love the staff!
Wow! Everything was amazing, and the service was fast and friendly.
Loved it! Tables inside and out with great food.
RUDE staff!! They acted like we Didn't exist
Food was interesting but prices were a little higher than expected
The chicken and waffles is amazing. The pork belly sandwich is also very good. Great place for lunch or brunch. Haven't had breakfast there yet, but the menu looks good too.
Great food
My favorite lunch spot in Mac, incredible food and atmosphere!
If I want to pay 9$ for mac and cheese I'd, wait 9$ for mac and cheese? And 11$ for a sandwich with no condiments... many were not "in season". Worst place EVER!
Good food, expensive in my life
I'm not entirely sure why anyone would suggest that this place is uncomfortable. The staff were friendly and we had a delightful breakfast. If you are looking for a 5 page menu then look elsewhere, but the food is good. We were wanting a latte, and they only serve drip coffee, so they encouraged us to visit flag + wire behind them and bring our coffee back to enjoy with our breakfast. Great little spot!
Excellent and consistent quality. I value supporting local farmers and eating the freshest, in season foods. Valley Commisary doesn't shout out there super local sources as I think they should. I recommend the fried chicken sandwich. Great spot for kids too.
Great atmosphere and we all loved our food!
Great food!
Fun open kitchen with great sandwiches and salads. Super fresh beer list.
Great food. A bit overpriced. Sandwiches should come with something on the side for $15. Just some chips or a small green salad...something. It looked so lonely.
Loved it
Great frittata
Nice a quiet. Counter service. Tasty food, simple and memorable. The beet salad was a nice lunch, refreshing on a hot day as well. The server was courteous, the counter clerk was patient, and professional. The dinning room and outside tables are all well done a d inviting. The restaurant has a laid back atmosphere, reflective of the small town. But, Don't let the small town atmosphere fool you. This place uses high quality ingredient. The result: memorable meals.
After reading such good reviews online about this place, my husband and I came here to try it. It was a rather big let down. Not only are the prices spendy for what you get, but the cashier told us it would be $20 for our meal... We got the hashbrowns ($11) and the biscuits and gravy ($8). How do you charge too much for such simple prices to add up??? We were then seated at a clean table and given clean glasses with an iced pitcher of water to leave with us. After a few minutes, our food was brought to us by the cashier. ...And we never saw him again. (I have my suspensions that the cashier was actually the owner of the restaurant. If that is so, I don't see this place surviving.) The food was not that impressive to look at. But I thought, "Well, it might be good anyway..." NOPE. The hashbrowns were soggy and oily. The only thing appealing about that dish was the fried egg on top and pulled pork mixed in. Couldn't even tell if the orange chunks were carrots or yams. Still have no clue thinking about it. It was just short of being moosh. The biscuits and gravy, however, were excellent. Sage and cheesy sauce with ground sausage mixed in, poured over warm biscuits. That meal would have been perfect if it had came with some fruit, or pickled vegetable, or SOMETHING to cleanse your palette in between bites. I would have enjoyed my meal better if it weren't for the staff moping around in the kitchen and throwing us weird glances every once in a while. One woman in particular, when I was looking around at the nicely remodelled building to enjoying all the tile, concrete counters, and heavily lacquered woods, gave me a look I can only describe to my husband as "A look a cat would give you. As if they were silently judging you for existing." It was very bazaar to get such a disdainful look from a woman I only met eyes with by accident. The whole atmosphere the staff was giving off was just bad. Not friendly. Not sociable. And I can't understand why? We only talked to the cashier. We were quiet. We even told the cashier it was our first time in. I don't see myself going back. I would rather eat at the Wildwood next to OK (Oregon Knitting). It may look trashy in there, but it gives you a sense of small town friendliness and the food is spectacular. 2 stars for the clean dishes and good gravy. Everything else, ZERO.
The Turkey Sandwich was one of the best I have ever had!! And the French Fries were really good to.
Just love the place. Great food and wonderful friendly people
Though a bit hipster with their menu descriptions, and ingredient choices, the brunch here is very good.
One of the best...stop for breakfast or lunch. You will not be disappointed. Excellent food in a relaxed joint with great people.
Just Deliclous!!!
Great staff, fast service
The chickpea burger was a little bland and dry, plus the bun didn't seem all that fresh. I also got a dessert (molasses cookie w/frosting) which was ok, but kind of forgettable. Everything is a la carte, my burger was $11 and it seems like it should at least come with a small green salad or something. The sides were $5-$7, so you'll end up paying almost $30 for a sandwich, side, dessert and drink. I just think that's too much for a restaurant with counter service (you can get a great meal at a nice restaurant in PDX for less).
Don't like the menu not real healthy
One of my favorite places for brunch or lunch in McMinnville. A seasonally changing menu with some classics thrown in.
Great food!
First time going for lunch and had the Beet Salad and fried Cauliflower. Very delicious!
So often these days, with fresh ingredients available from nearby farms, cooking at home ends up being better than going to a restaurant. Not so at this place. Chef Jesse is a god -- so inventive, inspiring, and caring in his presentation. Such careful and thoughtful combinations. Salads to die for (or at least Google review about). We're so thankful they're in town.
LOVE this place. They have a new Mac and Cheese.made with Pesto, asparagus, snap peas, and Parmesan. SOOOOO yummy!
Fresh. Gourmet. Great technique. Fine attention to detail. Want to go back and try more.
SCRUMPTIOUS FOOD!!! They have a second location dedicated to just catering.
Absolutely LOVE the Pork Belly sandwich. Their Fish n' Chips are great too. They have no bad food. Everything I have tried has been great.
Brunch was delicious! Everyone was super friendly and the atmosphere was great!
Been wanting to try for some time! Very pleased with food & service.
Love their food! soups, sandwiches and beverage choices. Seating is cafe style unpadded chairs... except for a couple couches and coffee table towards the back.
Great food, casual service.
Chef Jesse is a master of marrying exquisite flavors with seasonal, fresh ingredients. After trying most of their menu(which changes seasonally), I have never been disappointed. If you come to breakfast try their breakfast sandwich. Created on a house made english muffin with a fried egg, bacon, greens, white cheddar and spicy aioli, it's so tasty one would almost want to order two! Other great mentions are the hash, biscuits and gravy and fritatta. If there is a daily special, you MUST try it! Everything from handcrafted gnocchi, THE pastrami sandwich, or flat iron steak.
Large menu with many options. Fun ambience!
Everything was delicious - fried cheese curds, beet salad, BLT(heirlooms), chicken and waffles. Flavors were balanced and thoughtful, ingredients were fresh, and all distinct enough to be memorable despite being classic dishes. The cheese curds are worth the trip alone... so light and airy. Grabbed a lemon tart to go. They don't do espresso drinks, but partner with Flag and Wire just behind their building if you want to grab coffee to dine in.
Great food, best coffee set up where you can get your own cup. Service is outstanding stop here every time I come through McMinnville.
Great food, fantastic service you can tell everyone really cares about their food and atmosphere! Can't wait to come back
Wonderful food and setting.
Great Burger!!!!
Great wine country lunch/brunch spot
Good healthy lunch
Delicious and wonderful space.
Great place to eat.
The food was cold and the French toast was to dense.. Food prices were expensive
Ordered a beet salad to go. Worth the price? NOT
One of my favorites. Top to bottom the entire staff have one purpose and that's to deliver to you a culinary experience that would be hard to match. Rotating specials has made this a weekly surprise for me. Never been disappointed.
This has some of the freshest and greatest tasting food around! Went here twice while visiting OR!
The beet salad was very flavorful. The tomato salad with fennel was interesting. Very good chick pea Burger. Great prices. They have some creative menu items as well.
I came here for the gluten free options. They were helpful and made my food separately, using a new cutting board and changing gloves. It was good but very expensive for what you get. The GF options are limited.
Great food. We had the chopped salad and corn muffin. It was delicious. They offer a nice variety of food, something for everyone.
Very good food for breakfast or lunch. Can't go wrong.
Fun place to get a weird sandwich. Their menu is always changing which is fun. The fried cheese curds were surprisingly good. :)
Breakfast burrito was great. Filled with more veggies than egg, which I appreciate, and delicious pork.
Everything here is wonderful. The brussel sprouts can be a meal in of themselves
Tons of stuff to dig through. Great selection of antique hardware and old doors
Great grilled cheese
Oh, my, great food, great service. The flavors are very creative and yummy.
Great food service is very slow
Great place, they really care about the food they serve.
Stopped in for the first time after car shopping. Great food, service and atmosphere. I would go back.
Not what it use to be
Good food, friendly people. I usually get the special. When I'm not a fan of the special, ordering is more difficult because, frankly, the regular menu is kind of lame. But I always look forward to eating here, so five stars.
Really hoping they had vegan options but they only had two vegetarian options. Nice atmosphere though and love that they source their food locally.
Food was awesome, and I appreciated the low key vibe here.
Not worth $55! Could of got a better burger at Burgerville for a fraction of the cost. Ordered Mac N Cheese and have never been so dissapointed in my life. Horrible flavor and it was green? Velveeta shells is better! The burger had no flavor. The water was warm. The fries had so much salt it could kill you. So horribly dissatisfied!
The food is great- try the kimchi - and the fries are heaven. The only downside is the chairs, but they are pretty small, so likely don't want to encourage lingering.
Great food and atmosphere.
Yes. Just yes. Debating on whether or not to go? Just go.
Really good food laid back atmosphere
Delicious food with fresh ingredients! Brunch is excellent.
I have enjoyed the food and service here. The last two times were very bad experiences. The food was wrong and service staff had no interest in taking care of it. I had to go back a second time after my first bad experience because I assumed it was a fluke. The next visit was worse, both plates had wrong orders and we were told that was the way it was, get over it. So we won't be going back.
Who would have thought mushroom cauliflower soup could be so delicious! It had an unexpected hint of lemon that complemented it perfectly.
Beet Salad is excellent - I love it; however the portion is very small. I ordered this alone for my lunch. It was $10. It only filled half of a small plate and I was still hungry. It may be good as a side salad, but sandwiches are approximately $12, so that would be $22 for my lunch, which is way more than I would like to spend. My suggestion would be that the size of the beet salad be increased to twice what it is now and remain at $10. The ambiance is great - love the open seating and nice workers!
Absolutely fabulous stopover brunch hangout in Oregon's WV wine country. Come here to fuel up between vineyards. We really enjoyed the pork belly and smoked turkey sandwiches. The fries come in a bowl big enough to share if you're feeling generous. They have a bunch of the local craft beers and wines on the menu if you're feeling lazy or cheap and don't want to buy a $50 tasting.
Possibly one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I have ever had. Staff was friendly. The pork belly sandwich was equally if not more tasty than the fried chicken sandwich
Good food, good wine, good service
The food here is fresh and creative and delicious! Top it off with one of Brie's desserts and you're living the good life in McMinnville!
Amazing flavors and value and open modern industrial environment. I enjoyed habanero biscuits and gravy with a fabulous cup of Joe.
I have no photos to share. We were passing through on a road trip and stopped for lunch. So hungry I forgot to snap a pic. The veggie grilled cheese was Delicious!
This place is really good and combining flavors. It's also probably the only place in McMinnville to get fresh macaroons. Every time I've come here I've had a great meal. Sure the prices are a bit high, but the food is very fresh and local. You do get what you pay for.
Always delicious. Always awesome people.
This is our first visit to Valley Commissary. We loved everything about this place. Friendly staff, answered all my question quickly and we ended up trying many things on the menu. The fried chickpeas my son loved the most. Also our food was out super fast and there is an outside sitting area, that was super nice with the hot weather. We will be back more yummy things to try.
Valley commissary can be described as being late to the party in terms of what kind of restaurant they are trying to be. The sort of place that loves reminding everyone they are locally sourced and fair trade. A underwhelming attempt at being a trendy sort of eatery. Which is fine until you realize they fall short considering how it's been done better, for longer, and is less expensive. They litter McMinnville and the surrounding area and have done so for years. It's an ok place that's too pricey and is uncomfortable.
Sandwiches were OK - I’d give about 3 stars. Service was bad though. Declined to serve us breakfast even though we arrived before the cutoff time. Then after a long wait they finally served one of our sandwiches - to the wrong person! Had to wait even longer and when cubano sandwich arrived it was missing the pickle, which is one of the things that makes the sandwich a cubano! They gave a dill spear on the side to make up for it...
Yum!
Amazing Food, local to the community, eclectic menu, easily one of my favorite spots in McMinnville.
Great scratch kitchen making some great food!
Erica and Jesse - I can’t thank you and your team enough for the absolutely outstanding job and services provided. Beyond the amazing food, I am so impressed by the kindness and professionalism of each and every staff who came out for this event. Your team was a pleasure to work with and made the entire night better for everybody. Thank you!
Good chicken and waffles
I got the buttermilk pancakes with pineapple and coconut toppings also the brussel sprouts. You order food at front and it's open seating inside and outside. Staff are friendly. Pancakes were very fluffy and flavorful. Brussel sprouts were very delicious, deep fried without batter. Not too busy for a Sunday midmorning. Parking isn't abundant.
Unbelievably good food in a modern, casual environment. Large "bar" area to sit at and watch the chef/sous chefs at work- fascinating to watch and the chef will even pause to answer questions about the dishes. Incredible flavor combinations that surprise and delight. Only open for breakfast and lunch, limited menu but everything is wonderful!
Great atmosphere.. even better food
The food and service are always excellent
Great Food! hip casual surroundings.
I had the best chicken sandwich I've ever had today. Every ingredient was just perfect; the house baked bread, the homemade pickles, the buttermilk fried chicken, the blue cheese dressing. Starting with the fresh beet salad and ending with a light carmel pecan macaroon made this the best lunch in town. Best of all the prices are so reasonable for such gourmet dishes. I will be back!
Solid breakfast/lunch option. Nice service, interesting interiors, within walking distance of 3rd Street
Chicken sandwich when in doubt. The daily special is a great deal, usually a full entree - excellent value for the quality.
Good experience. Interesting menu.
Amazing chicken & waffles
Disappointed in the Turkey melt. Very dry, no sauce on it bread was hard.
Nice open place, with great lighting and atmosphere. Simple and beautiful design much like the food. Oh and it tastes good too.
Very good breakfast. Biscuits and gravy are well flavored and rich. Good job guys
Amazing chicken and waffles. Will be back for more as sion as I can. Very friendly wait staff.
Our brunch was delicious, service was excellent!
Good heathy good at a reasonable price.
One of our favorite local restaurants. Always sit at the counter to watch the prep work and ask questions about ingredients
This one checks all the boxes! Nice location, ample seating indoor and out, and several healthy & creative menu options. The burger with pimento cheese & fried cheese curds were each excellent & my wife loved her pork belly sandwich. Staff was friendly and helpful as well. Overall, a really good option when you’re in McMinnville.
Cool little place with both a modern and progressive feel and menu
Great breakfast and lunch spot! Fair prices and delicious food with options for vegetarians and carnivores alike.
Best place for breakfast
Fresh, delicious, local food and I believe they may "put an addictive chemical in their chicken that makes you crave it fortnightly, smart-ass".
Cheese curds and fried chicken sandwich (with kale and pickles) were OUTSTANDING. Will gladly be back sometime soon!
Good is sooo delicious!!! Everyone is very polite. Service is excellent!!!!
The food is always supper yummy and fresh.
Good food, good service.
Delish.. and gracious to get water for our pup!!
Owned by some honest, hardworking folks who are committed to delicious food. Great catering too!
Friendly people, great food and service.
Great food. The chili is tasty. I get it every time. One of the best restaurants in Mac town. The food is great, service is quick. And it’s always clean.
Good food -- though the prices are really quite high for order-at-the-counter service. For example, the $11 turkey sandwich doesn't come with anything on the side (chips, greens, whatever). Beware of extra ingredients, too -- unadvertised aioli on sandwiches, sour cream on the chili when only cheddar and onion advertised.
Amazing environment and staff. The pork belly sandwich was phenomenal. I'll be back for sure.
The food, atmosphere and service were outstanding!!
