We frequently eat at Papa Felipe's and have always enjoyed the food and service. This evening, 2/16/19, we had a new server named James and he was great. We seldom have poor service at Papa's, but James went the extra mile to make sure our food was fixed the way we liked and our beverages were always topped off. We told Larry how much we liked James and he suggested we post our review online, so here it is! Way to go, James!!!

I have been looking for a fantastic Mexican food restaurant, and have been unsuccessful finding a great one. Have tried all the local toped-recommend Mexican eatery, and have always wanted wanting more authentic flavor, and here THE Mexican food place to go was less than 100 feet away, I live in the apartment complexes next door!. I told my son, that Mexican restaurant is always busy, never have an empty parking lot, let's try it. ... The food was excellent, the place was bright and clean, clean looking. The salsa with chips was great, I usually try a couple dips at other places, and end up rejecting the salsa, but Papa's, it was delicious. Next the drink, was served with ice, and the Coke flavor was not watered down. And I ordered the enchilada with taco, and it was absolutely delicious, served hot, enchilada sauce was authentic and medium hot, exactly the way I like it, and the Spanish rice...omg. , and soft hot sopa with honey. This place has it going on!!!!

The service here was awesome! Vegans be warned- I have it on good authority that most of their salsas contain meat or animal products, guacamole included. The "street taco" salsas should be fine. My meal option was pretty much limited to the whole bean burrito and a side salad, which were pretty good, though simple. I still have to give the place five stars due to how honest and helpful the staff and management were in finding me something vegan.

While Papa's is good, there's nothing really EXTRA ordinary about their food. I think the central location it's in has a lot to do with what draws a crowd. I had a chicken taco salad, and while it was good, the overwhelming amount of chicken on top was a shock, as it overpowered the rest of the salad, which was hard to get to. (However, they make very good flat enchiladas!)

YUCK! I was just there tonight and it was awful! It took about an hour for our food to come. (We don’t blame our waitress Demetria, she was great.) I ordered the stuffed sopapillas and a guacamole salad. It was so so SALTY. There really wasn’t 1 entire sopapilla on my plate. They cut a sopapilla in half and laid it on top of a very small amount of carne adovada. The rest of my plate was really salty refried beans. The guacamole salad was $10! It was the ONLY thing I enjoyed so when we decided to leave and not try to eat our food I ask for a to go box for it. When I started to put it in the box I realized it was actually just about 3-4 tablespoons of guacamole spread on top of a huge heap of lettuce. We spent $46 dollars, did not eat, then went to Rudy’s. On a different note. We really enjoyed our waitress Demetria. She was so attentive and caring. Her service was quick and accurate. If she were working at a different restaurant I’d love to be sat in her section!

What a gigantic disappointment. Came to Papa Felipe's for my Birthday dinner only to have to wait almost an hour for my food to be wrong. My mom's meal was wrong too, and she was asked if she just wanted to eat the wrong order, or wait again. I was shocked, we love Papa Felipes and our waitress was rude and unhelpful. She had given us a discount because of the food being wrong, then when i told her i had a coupon for a free birthday entre, she revised the bill by a little over a dollar. This is unbelievable, and even though we love Papas, we will probably never come back out of fear of having Amy as our server again..goodbye Papa Felipe's. Thank you for your response. When you say "Sorry" with no ownership, it is generally pretty insincere. It's also troubling that someone in ownership, or management, would offer the explanation that the reason for the poor experience was because of how busy they are. The intention of our server was to be rude and demaning when she asked for my bitten into enchilada back, and then put it on a plate to throw it away. Again, you have to question the competency of leadership. Enjoy your success!

This place is a standard American Mexican restaurant. The chips were standard. Salsa wasnt anything special. Service from the bartender was great. Food speed was good. Not a hole in the wall but it was clear that the locals love this place. Bartender was kind. I won't go again.

My go-to is the 9 inch quesadilla with chicken and bacon- always delicious. The people there are extremely kind. Whether you are visiting Albuquerque or trying to find a new favorite, the heart of Mexican culture in great food lies here.

I had the tacos carnitas (3 tacos) and added the traditional rice and refried beans as the sides. The taco shells were toasted on the grill and stuffed full of tasty grilled carnitas. I was very satisfied with the portion size and my plate was super tasty. I was very happy with my choice, it was a special listed in the front waiting area. I would recommend it. We were also served promptly and check on regularly.

Later that evening a friend & I were looking for a place for dinner, and Papa Felipes was my first thought. Our waitress Katie was awesome, great personality and excellent service. James was also great, genuine human being. The girls and I made conversation with him, and he took the time to engage., it was awesome! Papa Felipes will definitely be on my go to list when I come home to visit!

Went on a Sunday eve and the place was packed! Waited a long time for our food but it was soooooo worth it! Food was delicious. I had the Tapatias & my husband the Macho Enchiladas. I have been going to this restaurant for a long time. Everyone is always friendly and the servers are always extremely positive. The food is delicious and they have very good chili! They have a rewards program and which often rewards buy one get on 50% on entrees. This place has been voted “Best of the City” many times, and it’s easy to find out why! Everything from curtesy to quality and all in between is at this place. The prices are reasonable when considering the size of the plates. I personally always get a combination plate which leaves me with plenty leftover. I will be returning very soon, and it won’t be anything even close to the last time!

We stopped in on an extremely busy Friday evening with a group of 8 without a reservation and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were seated in a timely manner. Once seated, our waitress, Demetria, was so accommodating. She had a great personality, very professional and efficient, she made sure we were happy with the food quality and checked on us regularly. It was truly a pleasurable experience, the staff is awesome and food quality and prices are excellent. I recommend Papa Felipe's to anyone that has a true appreciation for quality authentic Mexican food! Thanks for the experience.

Wonderful experience. Was seated right away for 3 people and the server was very attentive and quick. The atmosphere is such a wonderful depiction of historic New Mexico. The only reason I’m not giving it full stars is because almost all of their food, except two dishes one of which is a burger, has MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) in it which gives me horrible migraines. Other than that I would very much recommend this restaurant to everyone I know!

Clean restuarant, nice wait staff, food was hot and delicious. I had the Navajo taco, also known to us as an Indian taco. I liked that the beans were drained so it didn't soak the bread, the people in Oklahoma tend to soak the best part...the crunch of the bread with a spoonful of wet, undrained beans. I tried the chicken, but for me, I feel the ground beef would have. even much better. My husband had the chili relleno and it was home made, battered and tasty! We will come back.

Food was awesome, service was impeccable. I actually found a phone in the parking lot. I asked for the manager so I could leave it with them. It took several minutes but the receptionist returned and basically blew me off. It appeared as though the manager was afraid of any confrontation, good or bad, or just didn't want to take the time to hear from a customer. So my congrats to the staff but boo hiss on the manager. They should make a commitment to hear a customer out, good or bad.

If you are in Albuquerque you have to try this place. Great Mexican food and great service. I had the Tampico Tacos and it had to have been the best taco meat I have eaten and I eat a lot of tacos. Servings were a good size and they have a great kid's menu.

Made a PB&J after. It wasn't the worst experience ever, and I am sure if you know what to order you can have a pleasant experience. We were in the Albuquerque gor the night and unanimously voted on Papa Felixs. Upon entering the decor is cite and the hostesses are wonderful (kind, knowledgeble, and welcoming). Our server was kind, but absent (we had to ask for refills on chips and drinks multiple times). The food had a wide variety of options, but overall fell flat. The vegetarian fajitas had cold chopped plain bell peppers and onions served on a hot skillet. The tortillas were not the yummy, warm, soft homemade tortillas you would expect at this price point. They were plasticky and frankly smelled off. The meat on the chimichanga was tough. Most of the food was left on the plates. Needless to say, after paying $70 for a family of 4, we were left less than impressed. We went back to the hotel and made peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches.

We had a party of 20 (including the kids they shared with the adults) so it took an hour to get food. My food was very salty, even the sopapillas. I ordered a side of potatoes but couldn't eat them so I traded them for some French fries that were so greasy I couldn't finish them. I'll give it another try one day. I'll just know what not to order now.

The enchiladas were superior! The atmosphere is ultra friendly and the ambiance is totally inviting. But it was our waiter who was absolutely one of the best I've had!! We came here for the first time with family that was visiting. Drove by it, saw it was busy, and decided that it must be good. We arrived and had a great time during happy hour. The food was delicious and the staff was amazingly generous with their knowledge of the menu and even gave a sample of the meat in different chili sauces for my family to try before we ordered. We had a baby with us and the high chair was clean and even had a tray for us to use. Amazing. So amazing that my family wanted to come back to eat the next day. So we did! Same experience. Great food. Thick tortilla chips with the chips and salsa, excellent carne adovada (pork marinated in red chile and vinegar), and piping hot sopapillas--we asked our server to bring for dessert. Outstanding service.

Wonderful experience!! Our server, Dana, was phenomenal, super attentive, kind, and just seemed genuinely happy. The tamale plate was the bomb. Best rice and beans I have ever had, and of course the sopapillas were a wonderful addition. Can't wait to visit again!

I think the restaurant has not changed itself since forever. I use to eat there very often, and at that time the food was great always. so I know what I am talking about. I decided to pay a visit with my family. I was extremely disappointed with the food and the restaurant. In my opinion " Opinion " it definitely needs a makeover. Say paint and fix the ceiling where it had or has a leak in the roof. The staffing 5 stars. Food 2.5 stars restaurant 2 stars. My opinion. Enjoy

It took an hour for us to get our food that was cold. When we asked to speak to a manager, she gave us the excuse that it took that long because it was during a busy time...Wow!!! Food was gross tasting and the service was not the best. First and last time I’ll go there. The chili does not taste like New Mexico chili, it taste like a sauce (gross). Potatoes were burnt and tasted nasty. If you want good New Mexico food, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Not to mention it was way over priced.

Excellent New Mexican Food with hot chile! Best sopapilla I've had in a while, hot and fresh! Bonus: senior pricing strarts at 55! Locals eat here. Excellent service too!
