This place is absolutely wonderful. Me and my husband live in Arizona, and we have a lot of options as far as restaurants. This restaurant is so good that if we moved here it would be a common place for us to eat. It's not too expensive, maybe a little bit cheaper than a red robin. About $10 to $14 for a meal. Absolutely incredible. I have Celiac, and they accommodated me so well. I feel comfortable eating here. I got walleye sandwich with a gluten-free bun, and gluten free hash browns. The atmosphere is very wonderful - both classy and comfortable. They have a new owner, and he is absolutely wonderful. I would encourage coming here often so that it stays alive. It is a gem.

New experience for us. Was all excited for the beautiful salad bar, it was not chilled properly and the pasta salads and fresh veggies were just barely chilled. The Blue Gill apps were good, Chicken wild rice was delish. I had ribs, so so ketchup sauce. Not what I was looking for in a rib. Warm at best. I will visit again, just to see if I would feel the same way or have a better experience.

We had the grilled Rueben and the artichoke chicken sandwich with the salad bar. Both were delicous! Ate out on the patio and the view was gorgeous! When we got there we had to wait at the hostess booth for a while and eventually had to go find someone because no one was there to seat us.

I remember Russells as a place a family can purchase a well cooked and pleasant meal at a reasonable cost. But, that Russell's is No longer with us. What seems to have replaced the meals of the past are possibly frozen entrees and can vegetables. At least that is how the food tasted when my wife and I decided to try Russells again. Others may like Russells, so try them out, and make your own determination if Russells is a place you can enjoy.

My family and I visited Russell’s last night and would say for the area the experience was Ok, but overall was lackluster. The service was good, the location and dining room was nice, but the food was nothing to write home about. I was hoping for prime rib, they tout being the best prime rib in Minnesota, but they only serve it Thursday through Saturday... So why not just close the doors the rest of the week then?!? Next, the majority of my family had the Walleye and they all said it was dry and tasteless. I had the steak and lobster, the steak was ok if you like national chains (which this is not). The lobster, again, was dry and tasteless. Even the butter couldn’t save it. Overall, the service was decent the pricing was average and the dining room was a nice quiet spot this time of the week. My suggestion is to invest in better talent in the kitchen and look at where you’re sourcing your food, because what we experienced Sunday will not get me to come back.

We used Russells catering service for an outdoor wedding with 350 people. Russells provided china, glassware and silverware for the reception.The food we selected was great, from the salad to the carved beef. They brought a portable bar and managed the bar all evening as well. The wait staff was great, they were friendly and very professional. Greg and Larry went out of their way to make this special in every way. I would highly recommend Russells for catering to anyone.

This past Friday was my first time to Russel's on the Lake. Kicking off our anniversary weekend, I thought we would start a Friday evening with steak and seafood and I've seen reviews and posts about Russell's being very good.... pricy, but good. So we went to check it out. Major disappointment. I'll forget that they charge $28 for 5 scallops, but would expected them to be some pretty outstanding scallops. Nope... chewy, rubbery, over-cooked, and certainly not fresh. Tasted fishy, which lingered well into the evening. We also ordered Steak and Shrimp. Again, total disaster. Asked for the steak medium rare and shrimp deep fried. Steak was way over cooked to medium well and the shrimp were 30 seconds short of being burnt. We might have said something had the server even bothered to check on us, but as nice and as sweet as she was, she was very overwhelmed and busy. She never had a chance to stop by after our meals were delivered except to bring us the check. Nor were we asked how everything was. The amount of running around by all the servers was unnerving and was not a relaxed atmosphere. We felt very rushed to even eat our meals. One star was because the salad bar was very good at least. This was not an enjoyable experience, and the food was very poor. Such a shame for a first time experience.

I had the all you can eat ribs with hash browns and the salad bar. We were there at 6:00 so not very late, but the salad bar was picked over with most of the selection consisting of empty bowls. The ribs were boiled, not smoked, in other words they were flavorless. The chef put the bare minimum amount of sauce on the ribs, so you could barely taste the sauce. To add cheese to the hash browns, they put a slice of the cheapest cheese available on it and sort of melted it. The hash browns were also extremely greasy. In addition they don't offer any Minnesota tap beers. I had water. My overall impression is that Russel's has done everything in their power to minimize their cost to the food, and they really don't care what the end result tastes like. It's a shame really. It has a gorgeous view of the lake and could be a great destination. I wouldn't even recommend going for drinks and dessert, I had the carrot cake (I was trying to wash the taste of the ribs out if my mouth). It's obviously not made on site. I think it's the cheapest carrot cake they could find from Sysco. I have told my friends to avoid this place.

Really great food. Not quite fancy, but also not casual. Basically, wear more than jeans and a t-shirt. The view of the lake is incredible. If you can, eat outside. The food is really tasty. You can tell it's a family owned business by the atmosphere. I would recommend. 4 out of 5 simply because it's a bit pricey.

We have been here before and really enjoyed it which makes last night's experience even more disappointing. I ordered San Pelligrino and crab cakes and battered blue gill appetizers. The server came back and said that San Pelligrino isn't on their drink list but if I could tell them how to make it.... I pointed to the soft drink list and showed her the San Pelligrino. It cam with no ice in the glass. The crab cakes and blue gill apps were mediocre at best. It was a Saturday night at 7pm and no where near a full house so when we ordered prime rib, we were very surprised to learn that they were out of prime rib. Okay, we can deal with that. Two of us ordered the steak medallions, one rare and one medium, both came well done. My husband ordered the scallops, he got shrimp, which is a problem because he is allergic to shellfish. Sent that back and finally got very rubbery, over cooked and obviously came from frozen scallops. The service was very sub par but at least the server was very sweet. Needless to say, we will Not be back.

First time here. Ordered the chicken nachos tonight. The server put it on the table and specifically said chicken nachos. About a quarter way in I started feeling sick. Come to find out it was beef not chicken. I get sick from beef. Not a happy person right now.

My dad recommended the place but he had not been there in perhaps 20 ueats! I almost knew what we would get. The food was good, but the place is in need of a major updating, both on the decor and food. It just had the typical boring 70's supper club feel. Old oak chairs and tables, tacky artwork, and a salad bar with iceberg lettuce mix, shredded carrots and sunflower seeds. The service was good as well, but the layout of the interior was also odd. We were seated in a far room, which looked like a medium sized party room, but had to walk through another one, with an event going on in it! That was an uncomfortable experience.

Called to see if they had rate prime rib ... they did ... there 15 minutes later ... ordered very rare prime rib ... after a wait prime rib came med/well ... waitress very nice and agreed and took it to return ... came back and said chef said they were out of rare (at 6:45) ... since it had taken awhile i chose soup as it’s a menu item that was already cooked as hubby was now nearing done eating ... 20 minutes later the table next to us gets swerved a bloody prime rib (they had ordered medium) ... not cool ... manager came to explain that the cook took my prime from middle of roast so thought it was rare (even though visually it was gray white) ... sadly won’t be back

Great salad bar, food and can't beat the view on the patio of the sunset. (Would have to go to Fletcher's in Minnetonka to get a view like that but you wait 10 times longer and pay more and still probably not get as good of view!) My favorite lately has been the torsk dinner with drawn butter it's a lot of fish and it is excellent! Love the Mai Tai drink!

I hadn't been here in 20 years and it looked exactly the same however the quality was not the same. Way over priced for the quality. Salad bar should be included with the $30.00 steak dinner. I paid the $2.99 upgrade fee for the salad bar and it was gross old lettuce and vegetables. Daughter's meal and the wifes potatoes were cold. Not a $90.00 Dinner.

We had heard very good things about Russell's what were very disappointed with the slow service. NOT the fault of our server. She took our order right away but it was not brought to the table until 35 minutes later. She apologized several times saying that the kitchen was backed up. Apparently there was only one bartender on duty for the whole restaurant on a Friday night, as a result it took another 40 minutes to get our drinks, which were not as ordered . After all of that the food was marginal as well.

The location of Russell's is excellent. The outdoor seating offers a spectacular view of the lake. Also lovely was the acoustic music! The food was good to above expectations. My codd dinner was good, my friend's walleye was excellent and the beef medallions appetizer was also excellent. The reason they get a 3 from me was the long wait to get our appetizer, not being assigned a server after being moved to our reserved table from the bar, and then the long wait for our food. I had read the wait times were a concern in previous reviews so after no one stopped at our table in 20 minutes or so we flagged down a server. Once this server (petite blonde) found out we had been waiting, she was very helpful and gracious. We got free dessert! The carrot cake is to die for!!! So we loved it but they didnt seem very well organized. Also my feedback on the out door seating...lose a row of tables. Its got a food court feel amd you're way beter than that

Our family goes here for special occasions and this place never disappoints. The food is fantastic! Walleye is my favorite. They have a wonderful covered patio that looks out onto the lake. We were just there in September 2017 and they've added a fire pit at the lake side with chairs. Love it!!!

Went for a date night and highly recommend. While it's winter and we didn't get to enjoy the lake view much, I'm certain we will go back in the spring and summer. Looks like a beautiful location. Food was amazing. We split a steak and shrimp. Steak was sooo good. We had dill pickle and potato soup. Not a thing I ever imagined I'd like but it was good. I think it needs a little ham in it and it'd be amazing. Wife loved the salad bar. It wasn't very fancy. Bowls of lettuce and tons of pasta salads, which are her favorite. The decor is very dated. But that's fine. Service was a little slow but very friendly.

I have been here twice as I give a place a second chance. I can say that while the location is great, the food is not. On my first visit I ordered the cajun pasta and there was zero spice to it. I'm not looking for spicy hot, just some basic cajun seasoning. On my second visit, I had to wait almost 15 minutes for the staff to notice my wife and I. We ordered our beverage and meals. I got the chicken parmesan. I'll give them props for using fresh mozzarella cheese on the chicken. But the marinara sauce they made was so watery, it ruined the dish. It also had zero spices in it. No oregano or basil. I also had to ask for parmesan cheese as the dish was bereft of any. The meal also took 45 minutes to get to us. Poor service, poor food quality. I won't be going back.

Russells on the Lake has changed owners, but not changed its name. It is celebrating I first year with new ownership in an updated menu it's next weekend with a beach party. You can do beach parties because it's back deck walks out onto grass, that fronts a nice piece of Sandy Beach. They had a bouncy house up, which completely absorbed my three-year-old and wiped out any complaints about how long it was taking for her meal to show up. I selected the kiddie Macaroni and cheese. To my total amazement, what I got was grown up macaroni and cheese portion for a kid, - the extra garlic and maybe some fresh slices of Roma tomatoes. A complimentary basket of mixed herbed and or Hawaiian style dinner rolls comes with any meal. They probably have one of the best salad bars in the area, maybe not the cheapest but then again where else you going to be able to sit out on the back deck and watch the lake life go by. I highly recommend Russell's if you're on 10 or in Monticello and you're looking for a mental health break and a decent meal and a very relaxing and pleasant Lakefront environment from which to eat. I don't know if you can do better I do know you can do much worse, this area is not notorious for great restaurants, this area is notorious for low-level national chain all you can eat buffets like Pizza Ranch, and Golden Corral, and that one that died off I have no idea why other than the food was absolutely nasty, Old Country Buffet. So, if you live near here and you're not coming to this place you're probably too cheap to eat out and you should probably just cook your food at home, because your other option Burger King is just going to destroy your health. But if I lived here I would probably eat here on a regular basis cuz their food is great there location is better and the view cannot be beat.

Looked up the brunch menu online for Russell’s on Thursday, June 13th 2019 and based on the pricing, ($15.99 for an adult) made a reservation for my family of 14 for Father’s Day, June 16th. Two days later on Saturday, June 15th 2019, my daughter just happened to ask me what was on the menu. When I went to the online brunch menu, it had completely changed and the price went up to $24.99 an adult. Upon calling, was offered nothing more than an “I’m sorry” and the manager admitted it was an error with marketing. Another family member called in because the whole family was frustrated and it was now Saturday afternoon and asked that Russell’s honor the pricing that was online since it was clearly their mistake. We were offered nothing and couldn’t find anywhere now on such short notice. So it’s wrecked our family’s Father’s Day. Knowing this, we are all so glad that my daughter asked me what was in the menu or we would have gone there and then got stuck paying that much higher cost. Very poor reception and service by management and all of us will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The Cajun pasta dish at 19.99 was plentiful but bland. 2 - 3. pcs of shrimp. Chicken seemed to be microwaved and sausage was disappointing. Pasta was overcooked. If you've never had good pasta you might think it was ok. My partner had cod which was better.

However the food seemed to be plain for my liking especially for the price. Yet the drinks were good. Hospital quality food that's 5 star priced. Ordered tenderloin steak medallions. They were done exactly how I ordered then, medium rare. They were tender but tasteless. I think that the cook forgot to add garlic to the garlic mashed potatoes add they were also quite bland. I'll go back but will not waste my money on treating myself to something I typically love.

The food was mediocre at best and over priced. The service was fine. The view was good. I thought it was over priced at best, and to hear them turn people away at the front when there were over a dozen open seats out on the patio is enough for me to not care to go back.

I enjoyed the Lake view from my table. My chicken parmesan was delicious, perfectly cooked. It seemed they did not have enough wait staff that night. Messed up on my friends meal so she had to wait a really long time to eat.

Beautiful view but very slow service. It was not busy at all so I'm mot sure if they had to "catch the fish" first??? The food was good however, one person in our party of 10 thought the fish was undercooked . . . The view was beautiful!

Food was amazing and a lot to choose from, from salads to steak. Service was amazing and served our table adequately. Large selection of beers and wines to choose from. Great view of the lake and provides sectional quiet rooms for better atmosphere.

New menu, prices a little high, wait staff friendly, good service, no complaints about the food. Don't appreciate lobby staff eating at the front desk...either eat in the bar or somwhere else. Not what I want to see when I walk in.

We got there at 6:30 , didn't get seated till almost eight. When seated outside on the patio it was almost empty. Inside the heat was cranked and it was hot. No ambient music or noise. Like a funeral home. I'm sure people love it. Not going back
