Omg the portions are nuts. We ordered the appetizers and sandwiches. We ended up eating the appetizers and taking the sandwiches home for dinner. The home style food is excellent and the staff super friendly.Their chipotle burger is my go-to but I also really enjoy their ranch turkey wrap. Just thinking about it is making me hungry! Order with the homemade chips, you won't be disappointed!

Classic American sit down diner with wait staff. Good quality fresh food. Vegetarian and Gluten Free menus are available on request, no vegan options without some modifications of the vegetarian options. Over a decade ago we went here for drinks and music and it had a very good atmosphere, physically it looks the same without any changes or updates just more worn all over. We tried it as an alternative to the hospital cafeteria, and it was okay, but was good to have something different. Avoid seating close to the kitchen doors, the natural gas smells made us nauseous, which is not what you want to feel while eating.

Atmosphere was nice and wait staff good but our food was not at all good. Hot food served cold (pancakes - didn't melt butter; bacon - had a cold grease feel and taste and potatoes - looked delicious but not even warm) biscuits and gravy was dry, cold and the flavor was less sausage / seasoned and more heavy cream flavored. Eggs were undercooked. Was highly recommended and wanted to like it, just didn't. It was clean and well staffed with nice sidewalk seating (we did not sit there though).

Very nice and relaxed atmosphere....Great customer service....Had a great grilled chicken salad with candied walnuts and dried cranberries....But, the onion rings we had for an appetizer were the BEST I've ever had! No grease...Crispy and delicious!!

We’ve seen the sign for this restaurant for a long time on our way to MOA, but finally stopped. What a little gem. We were told 25 minutes to wait and were seated in 10 minutes. Our waiter Ben greeted us with a welcoming smile and such even though they were busy he didn’t seem rushed or frazzled. My son ordered the all you can eat walleye and shrimp after being hesitant because usually at most restaurants the all you can eat refills take forever. Not here though, as they came out very fast. And the desserts! The coconut cake and peanut butter pie were superb! If you are thinking of dining here, hesitate no longer!

We were excited to go to Canadian Honker for breakfast for the first time. We missed it by 15 minutes so we ended up having lunch. I Had the senior Chop Sirloin 6 oz. chopped sirloin topped with sauteed onions. $11.99. It was literally a dry hamburger patty, the mashed potatoes were dry. We sat outside and our server never checked on us and we had to call her over to refill my husbands Arnold Palmer. Then we found out that we were charged $5 for an Arnold Palmer because they said it was like a cocktail. That was double what we are charged and we have had hundreds of them. Very disappointed. Doubt if we will come again.

The potatoes au gratin were amazing. I enjoyed a fillet and lobster special for the final day of my vacation. Ohh em goodness! It was yummy. Nice atmosphere. Clean. Busy (which I thought was a good sign). I also observed and appreciated that the staff was multilingual.

The outdoor seating was available on Saturday night at 6 pm, so we had a very pleasant, quiet eating experience outside. Excellent baked walleye in butter with mashed potatoes in butter and fresh salad. We both got the Senior portion that was just right at $18.99. The apple caramel crisp with vanilla ice cream dessert is to die for! See photo.

Canadian Honker is a tradition for my husband and me whenever we're in Rochester. We're predictable with our orders - steak sandwich for him, grilled cheese for me. The Honker has some great things going for it: incredibly nice service staff, decent prices, awesome location, and sometimes live entertainment. Also, their onion rings are some of the best I've ever had.

Read that is was one of the top restaurants to eat at downtown. I was impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff. It is cozy and a perfect place for a quick bite, or a long dinner. I'm a big fan of Canadian Honker. It's right across the street from St. Mary's and a popular place for Mayo employees and patient's alike. Their chipotle burger is my go-to but I also really enjoy their ranch turkey wrap. Just thinking about it is making me hungry! Order with the homemade chips, you won't be disappointed!

Wow this place was a surprise for me. It's not often that I'm completely satisfied with a restaurant, but this place did it. The quality of the food was top notch, but the prices weren't steep at all. The staff was friendly and very quick. However, the best part of my experience was the dessert. This place has the best pecan pie I'd ever eaten. It is made at the restaurant and you can tell.

I had the traditional eggs bennidect. Two poached eggs, on ham, on top of an English muffin. All covered with holendaze sauce. I got hashbrowns with mine. It was exactly what you'd expect. The price was reasonable. Good place to have breakfast. I also tried their salted caramel coffee drink. It was ok. It's a seasonal drink. I wouldn't order it again. It was worth trying. I will be back to try something else the next time I'm in Rochester!

Both my wife and I had the walleye this evening. Food was great from our salads to the Coconut cake. Waitress and Hostess were a total joke!! Our cake came in a paper carryout bag. When I asked what this was about, the aloof wAitress said, "A little bird told me....I thought was extremely odd. As a heart patient I kept my cool and simply put up with it. 5 years ago I would have shoved the cake in the hostesses face.

We went to this restaurant based on location to Mayo Clinic and good reviews. While the service was good, we ordered their "famous" giant Walleye fish sandwich. What.a.joke. McDonald's fish fillet is larger than this dinky sandwich -- and tastes better. This sandwich costs $15.99 with French fries -- and 99% of it is thick tasteless fried batter. It was laughable at what the actual fish was. Two forkful bites is all!! The only thing the young waitress could say was "I'm so sorry". Sorry doesn't change we paid $15.99 for 2 bites of fish. We would NEVER recommend this restaurant or go back again.

I am in Rochester, MN for surgery at the Mayo Clinic hospital. My wife and I decided to have carry out dinner from the Canadian Honker Restaurant. She had Chopped Sirloin which she said was very good. I had the Canadian Walleye Sandwich hand dipped in beer batter and crispy onion rings. It was d e l i c i o u s ! I have seen other people call it pricey. I call it a bargain. I will continue to eat at/from the Canadian Honker for the foreseeable future.

Excellent service. Had been looking for a restaurant that serves liver & onions ( for my husband.) Best he's EVER had; tender & flavorful. Served along side onions & bacon. I believe only available on evening menu. I had the rueben. Also very tender. Corned beef brisket smoked in house. Only comment would be that most tables are too close together. Don't leave without Bunny's Coconut Cake to go!

In town for a Mayo visit. Recommended by the Hotel Staff at the Courtyard Marriott. Ran in for take out, encountered Chris at the front counter. Phenomenal customer service. Burger was delicious and the Reuben was awesome. Best part..., the Homemade Lemonade and even better..., the Coconut Pie! That alone is worth a return visit. Returned for a second visit..., WOW!!! Totally knocked it out of the park! Best part was meeting our Server, Ben. A perfect representative of Rochester!!! A proud member of the community and expresses his love and admiration of his adopted city. Looking forward to a third visit for breakfast.

Here for four days at Mayo, asked around to have a good breakfast and was told to try the Canadian Honker. Was not disappointed at all. Best breakfast I've had hands down in a long time. The OJ was something I cant even explain so creamy and delicious. Service was fast and very friendly. Cant wait to try again tommorow. Thank you for a wonderful experience and the feeling of a good home meal while I am going through my Cancer treatment. There are so many people going through medical crisis and having a great place to get away is so important. Thank you again

Friendly staff, nice environment, the food was excellent. Had the almond crusted walleye, very good. The pecan pie was amazing. Only problem was the tables were a bit too close together and it felt like people were listening to our conversation. And the prices were a bit high. But otherwise good.

Even when the staff is very busy, they still make time for you! I thought the staff was very respectful and did not make me feel rushed despite the fast environment. Their food is absolutely delicious! I had the chipotle burger which wasn’t spicy at all according to my taste buds, but my tongue is pretty much immune to any spicy foods! The Bunny Cake is amazing and is not overly sweet. I’ve only ordered take-out but I will definitely have to try dining in soon!

The Honker is a favorite of ours. Locally owned and outstanding for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They have great food and service. As a high point last year- we made reservations for thanksgiving--needed a shoe horn to get in, it was so packed. Seated promptly- our service and the meal were as usual, outstanding. You cannot go wrong with the Honker for any meal-Have Bunnie cake there or grab a slice to go---you will not regret it. There others desserts are awesome also but- the tops is Bunnie cake-so fresh.

Always a big crowd here, live music on the weekends. The menu has a lot of variety, I love the liver and onions! But without a doubt, the best thing here is the coconut cake - delicious and huge! Don’t miss it. Breakfast was great & convenient. Pool was relaxing. Beds in the suite were clean & comfortable. Loved the kitchen amenities with full appliances! Location was prime! Food is always great, staff is always super, prices are competitive with other Rochester restaurants!

I'm surprised that they have this awesome restaurant near hospitals like Mayo Clinic! Just walking distance more or less 15 mins. Breakfast was good, I ordered country fried steak and eggs it was soooo good! Staff was so attentive and friendly, eventhough we have already our server, other server will still check on us if we already got our order or if we need anything, I so appreciate that! Ambience was nice and friendly, specially when you bring kids. Restaurant is not that huge so if its busy, the place can be like a tight spot to move out, was thinking if any old people whose in a wheel chair or in a cane I suggest they sit near the door or they have also chairs and seats outside but the problem is now that is summer, might be too hot outside unless you go on an early day. We love the place and food definitely will be back!

I had the Canadian Walleye Pike with baked potato and vegetable beef soup. It was very good. Will definitely have it again. My significant other had the Turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes which also treated a 4/5 stars. On top of all that the service was very good.

Not sure how this place gets such good reviews, I order their signature steak sandwich. The meat was as dry as a popcorn fart and tasted day old at best. The fries were cold. Not impressed. Arbys has a beef brisket sandwich that kicks this places butt. Another diner in our party had an open face meat entree, not sure what it was, he said the same..."thank God it was served with gravy...meat was dry and tasted old".

We ordered an open faced hot beef sandwich, a jack melt, a club house, and a honkers original steak sandwich. Food came out fast and hot, and the serving size was pretty big. We all got fries and they were all really fresh and hot, crunchy outside but soft inside. The sandwiches were generally good. I liked my dish, the club house, and my friends liked theirs, as well.

Our family, (6 adults, 1 two yo), dined here on Thursday evening. This restaurant is no stranger to the holiday of Thanksgiving. Our wait was just about an hour, but it was worth it. Once we placed our order, it took about 7 seven minutes until our waitress was serving us. Everyone at our table was very pleased with their meal and the attention we received. The staff, despite the crowd, despite the very crowded foyer, and despite a women videoing the crowd with her phone, was very calm and collected. The host and the 2 hostess remained very professional even though some of the patrons were less than pleasant. We will be returning here on our next visit to Rochester. We can highly recommend this establishment.

Stopped in at last minute on Sunday evening on our way out of town from moving my brother in law to the area to be close to hospital for awhile...very impressed! Excellent fish and chips!!!! At first we thought it was a bit pricey but found out it was well worth it for quantity and quality of food! We will be back some day...wish we didn’t live 2 hours away!

The food was solid, but not super amazing. We were not aware that they did not serve alcohol when we went, but they don't seem to. The cherry vanilla cola drink is $5, which is too expensive for what you get, and it is way too sweet. I had the hot turkey sandwich (fine) which comes with mashed potatoes (quite good).

Went to try the $3.49 breakfast and it was AWESOME! Well worth the $6.99 regular price. People that work their need a bonus! They were all sincerely kind. Heard one waitress tell another staff member he was not walking to work tomorrow because it would be to cold and she would pick him up! It was so heart warming! Best dining experience in a long time! Go for the burger stay for the onion rings. I'm not from the Midwest but this place feels like quintessential Midwest. So friendly. Everyone feels like family at a nice Thanksgiving dinner. It is very convenient if you or a loved one are at the St Mary's campus of the Mayo clinic. They are open late (10pm) most (if not all) nights.

The food was awesome, unfortunately we got a waitress that wasn't on top of her game. We waited at least 25 minutes after we gave her the order to get our food. I finally had to flag her down and she claimed someone else got our order and it would be a few more minutes. I feel she should have been on top of this before I needed to say something. She was so confused she brought out another bowl of soup thinking she hadn't brought that to us, which she had. She did offer a free dessert for the mix up. I didn't leave the usual tip.

On Sunday I had the Banana Nut Stuffed French Toast. It was wonderful and I enjoyed every bite. I also enjoy the Salmon Benedict and Honker Omelet when I have them for breakfast. I have stopped here several times in the past couple of years and it is always outstanding. The service is great with warm, friendly, and welcoming staff. The food is always hot and arrives quickly. We heard a lot about this restaurant and decided to take a walk there since we were staying nearby. We all had burgers and fries. The burger was a little under seasoned for my liking, but still very good (amazing bbq sauce) and not underwhelming enough to take away from the positive rating. I highly recommend the Honkin’ Mary drink. YUM! I only had one, but I think I could have stayed there for hours having more if I didn’t have an early morning the next day. The restaurant was very busy, but the waitress was not fazed by it and was very friendly and attentive. We will be back in Rochester in August and will go back and this time I was told my family to bring home a coconut cake :)

Ate here five times with a lengthy hospital stay. Servers were great each and every time. Four of the five times the food was great. Stuffed French toast was great. Abbots burger was great the first time. Filet Mignon and Lobster was one of the best meals I’ve had in a couple years. Bear battered walleye sandwich was great. My two kids ate with me twice and everything they had was great. Only bad was just now I had an Abbots burger right before I left and ordered a medium. The burger was medium rare to rare on one half of the burger. The bun was really soggy maybe because of that. My wife was checking out so I had no time but I should have returned it instead of leaving this review. Would have been sad if this was the first time I ate there. Overall great though thanks for the smiles and friendly people.

We went on thanksgiving. The food was OK, but they had a very limited menu. I got nachos which tasted OK, but in my opinion I could have gotten better nachos from taco bell, or made them at home and saved alot of money. People I went with got fish and chips or chicken fingers, which were both good, but very overpriced in my opinion. Maybe it would be better on another day, but on thanksgiving it was just OK.

This is a wonderful restaurant. Great regional decor and outstanding service that relaxes you and makes you feel you are at home. They love serving their guests. Even though we were there at peak time on Friday all you can eat fish and shrimp night, AND we didn't order that, our food was timely, looked and tasted great. And the hot fudge Sunday was great! Excellent location, across from St. Mary's hospital.

This place is great! Stopped there a few times during our Mayo trips. Lunch is much easier to get into than dinner! We had to wait for quite a bit in the crammed hallway for dinner, and people just kept cramming in. So get there early, go for lunch, or wait until later for dinner. The food is good, fresh and you can tell homemade. They gave us a much needed cozy meal given our reason for the trip. It's right across the street from Mayo Hospital (not the clinic), so it's convenient after visits!

Got the buffalo dummies appetizer and when I got down to the bone it was very cold. Almost like they took it out of the freezer and fried it then served it, they did say it was precooked though. The service was okay. The prices are really high for some of the menu items. I got the salmon and the portion was tiny! I can get more salmon than that for like 90% cheaper! Next time I might as well order off of the kids menu, there is so much more food per serving and it's so much cheaper haha. This was my first experience at this restaurant, it did not leave a good impression.

The food is always on point. Their slogan "it's where the locals eat" sums it up perfectly. The restaurant has a nice family owned atmosphere. You can tell they pride themselves on quality food at reasonable prices. If you haven't stopped by, you don't know what you're missing!

Very pleasant visit tonight. Convenient to all the hotels on this street and St Mary's. Some of the dinners are pretty pricey, but there are plenty of more reasonably priced options. Server was very friendly and appropriately attentive. Highly recommend the open faced hot turkey sandwich. Real roast turkey, generous portion.

The server was friendly and thought ahead about things like extra napkins. The place was busy for the later evening hour, but food arrived in a timely manner. The entrees were tasty enough, but nothing special. The dessert portions were large. Several of the entrees seemed a bit overpriced for what they are. Overall it didn't live up to the many recommendations from others.

My mother in law was here from out of town, my husband was in the hospital. I bragged up Canadian hunker as the greatest place to eat because we had really good food from there. We were seriously let down this time things missing from our meals the nachos were just disgusting. I may be thinking twice before ordering there again.

I ordered the lumberchaxk with some cheese on the eggs and hashbrowns what I recieved was 2 undercook pancakes eggs and hashbrowns with 6 slices of government cheese just slapped over the top of my food looked like breakfast nachos .
