Afro Deli has delicious and amazing food. It's staff are kind. The food comes fast and hot. The place is clean and wonderful. My only issue is it seems like it is a disingenuous marketing of African food to American audiences. I've lived in Kenya - and Afro Deli's Kenyan tea is nothing like what it is there. I think Afro Deli can be a great first step to getting people to understand what African food is while providing income to the African immigrant community. At the same time, I had been missing Kenyan tea like crazy and was ridiculously excited. I approached the cashier asking if the Kenyan tea is real Kenyan tea the way they serve it in Kenya, she said yes. So it seems like the staff don't even understand what they are serving. :|

The dip sauce they give along with the fries is really good. I have had afew dishes from their menu in the past. I liked their chicken quesadilla and also, if you would be wanting to have a heavy lunch then chapati wrap is what you might look out for.

The food was really good and for great prices. I've eaten falafal at many places before and the falafal here was definitely above average. The service was a little slow, but the place was also quite crowded.

Wish I discovered this place earlier lol, its pretty good, and somewhat healthy, or at least healthier than some of the other choices around. My go to is the Chicken Fantastic, its like a rice bowl, with some veg and chicken. V tasty and filling. Free wifi available

I walk in and I'm standing there, and the guy at the counter winks at me and says "take your time, I'm here until four. The first time can be daunting but everything here is great." Another two minutes or so pass and a group of kids come in, I'm still standing there like an idiot, which apparently they notice because they all start throwing recommendations at me and assuring me how great everything is. It was quite the experience, but I'd say I agree.

The quantity given is great for the price (Veggie Fantastic and Fries - sauce with fries is amazing), and the food tastes great, especially after a long day. Definitely a great place to eat for those on campus wanting Indian-type food without having to go very far (The Afro is a short walk from Moos Tower). Drinks come with free refills, so that is also a plus. Views into street could be nicer though.

If you are looking for a quick and delicious bite near the University, this is a highly recommended destination. The food is prepared fast and it is inexpensive. What's more, the entire menu is halal. We shared three items from the menu, a samosas combo of veggie, meat and chicken, a gopher lamb gyro, and a Somali steak. The winner is the Somali steak. The sandwich was spicy and right on the target. The meat wall will cooked and the toppings were appropriate.

I don't eat from Afro Deli a lot, but the last time I got the lamb gyro I ended up with food poisoning for 3days. At first I didn't think much of it, but only realized it was the food I ate after my roommate who ate with me also had food poisoning. I have eaten there a few times and there has been no issue till now. I try not to say anything negative about a business because I know a lot of work goes into it. Therefore, I really hope Afro-deli take extra measures to ensure their food is in good quality.

I love Afro Deli here are a few things to consider. The menu accommodates vegan low sodium and spice seeking pallets all in one place! The spice level is mild when they say mild and spicy when they say spicy. This is helpful to the Minnesota pallet. I order for meetings and the Chicken Fantastic and Afro Steak Dinner are crowd favorites! Do not skip the Somali Sweet Spiced Tea it reminds me of southern iced tea but with a kick! DO NOT PASS up and opportunity to eat here!

A fantastic (mostly Ethiopian food) place - I went a couple of times while I was in Minneapolis and I forget what I got (both times it was some kind of vegan bowl with veggies), but whatever it was was great. The food is anything but bland. They've got many vegan options, a chill atmosphere, and friendly service.

So good! Unfortunately never visited their West Bank location, but this new location is always busy and for good reason! Great food with lots of flavor. Pretty quick at lunch but the crowd is usually heavy. Great for catering too, although not very thorough with communication, they offer large portions and reliable delivery!

The food is always excellent. On a recent visit, they were out of cups for the soft drink machine, which was out of ice. The restaurant was also pretty dirty. However, the quality of the food makes up for these issues.

My go-to lunch place as a UMN student. It's one of the closer restaurants to the mall area, and has food definitely worth the price (getting both quality and quantity for your $$$). Most known for the chicken fantastic, but their lamb gyros and chapati wraps would have to be my favorite orders. I also really like their Somali sweet spiced tea (which is basically a really strong chai tea). 10/10 recommend going here!

Great for students. Prices are reasonable, the food comes fast, the food is delicious and the people there are good. Would recommend a wrap that I think is called the chipati wrap, but I might have misspelled it. Doesn't have parking, so if you need a place with parking, it might not be the easiest place to eat at, but if you are okay with street parking or walking to it, definitely a good option

The gyros and Somali steak sandwich are delicious. The fries are perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The baklava is beautifully chewy, with plenty of honey, I was in love.

What a discovery! Spicy, savory, tasty - EXCELLENT!!!!! Downtown St. Paul - I live in Brooklyn, and I felt drawn to this amazing restaurant. Everything smells amazingly good. Somali Steak, Somali Sweet Tea - PERFECTION! The woman at the register, whose name is Essence, is exactly the right person to welcome you to this fantastic place. Phenomenal food and service, I had to be at the UoM and needed to grab a bite to eat while waiting for some parts and this was the perfect place! The attendee at the register was super nice and helpful the food took about 7 min for my friend to get it and 15 for me which was not phenomenal but fine considering what we had(he had a large gyro and I had a steak sandwich). It was all worth it when we got the food which was absolutely phenomenal. I inhaled it was so amazing. And the fries, they are a must have, combined with the sauce they give the food is to die for, honestly they were the best fries I've ever had

Afro Deli & Grill gave me the wonderful opportunity to try Flafle and an even more delectable experience with their wonderful shoestring fries, which were warm to the touch, but not too hot; perfect munching temperature! When I ordered the Flafle burger, I expected it to be on a bun like most burgers' are here in America, but to a delighting surprise, it came to me on a Pita like bread or Gyro wrap! It was amazing!

Afro Deli catered our wedding and we couldn't have been happier with their service and the food! We had a lot of guests from rural areas that had never tried any kind of African food. They all loved the food! I highly recommend considering Afro Deli for any event that you need catering for. Their catering services are phenomenal!

If you haven't eaten here, you need to. Trust me. They will not disappoint. My fiance and I ate here for dinner this evening for the first time. It was amazing and exceeded our expectations in every way. The menu had great variety, service was exceptional, and the food was a wonderful blend and balance of flavors. Prices were very reasonable as well. I had the Chicken Fantastic, and it was exactly as its name describes. The dish was chicken and vegetables in a rich and creamy sauce topped with grated cheese over a bed of colorful rice. It was outstanding! I have eaten many places in my life, and this was good. It was really good. My fiance had Chicken Curry and really enjoyed it also. In addition, we ordered sweet potato fries and fried plantains. Everything had a delightful and distinct flavor. The 'icing on the cake' for this experience was the Somali tea. It's a tea with spices that I can only describe as awesome.

If you're looking for great and reasonably-priced Somali fusion food, look no further. It's a small space, but the food is great and so is service. Generous portions too. Wish the chicken gyro came with fries though :). It's all Halal too.

Good food at good prices. I had the lamb gyro and fries and the taste and quality of the food was great. The wait time was a little longer than expected, but the quality of the food made up for that. The staff was friendly. The restaurant itself is pretty small but there is outdoor seating for the summer months.

Love the food and service here. Although sometimes there might be a long queue but it only takes less than 10 mins to be my turn and the food will be ready in less than 10 mins as well. The food is delicious and comforting! I love the Beef Steak Dinner as well as their crunchy sambusa (eat it when they're still hot so it's still crunchy). I will definitely visit this place again!

Great place and great food! There are two locations, but this location is really awesome with the food service and its menu.. must be why it's always so busy! The menu has a variety of different foods to try, and I will recommend the Chicken Fantastic or any of the gyro sandwiches! It's usually a bigger portion/super filling and I always bring home leftovers!
