My fiancé and I reached out to Jim to see if Crystal Lake Catering would be available to cater our wedding. He replied promptly saying that our date was available and that he would read through our information and get back to us. Unfortunately, he replied saying he didn't think our wedding would be good fit for his business because it wouldn't generate an "awarding monetary gain". To give you some context, our wedding venue is in the same town in which Crystal Lake Catering is based and we plan to have around 125 guests, on a SUNDAY evening. The Crystal Lake Catering website mentions that they are full service and can accommodate anything from a small dinner party to much larger events and weddings, which of course doesn't align with the response we received from Jim. My fiancé even tried to reason with Jim, asking him what we could do to make our wedding more financially appealing (adding bar service, etc.) but only to receive a garbled email about how the company doesn't pass up larger opportunities, that weren't mentioned in the first email. The only explanation I could come up with to understand why we were being turned away is because we're a same-sex couple. I certainly hope this isn't the case, but I'm not sure what else would warrant such a bogus excuse. Regardless, I'm extremely disappointed in my experience with Crystal Lake Catering and will happily give my money to a business that doesn't miscommunicate its capabilities, minimums, and agendas.
