I hired Saveur Catering to cater our rehearsal dinner a month ago, which was a cocktail taco party. After assurances and representations from its owner, Melissa Araujo, we paid almost double other estimates for her to service the party, finding solace in the notion that we would have a professional caterer and would not have to worry. We contracted for service for 80 guests; we had 65 guests attend the party.
The contract called for 2 cooks, tortillas made on site, and continuous service from 6-9 pm.
Melissa showed up alone with pre-made tortillas and did not make any tortillas on site. At 6:45 pm, Melissa came up to me, informed me that my guests ate too much and she ran out of food. She did not offer to do anything to remedy the situation or pose any other solutions; rather, picked up her entire set up, including table cloths, leaving only wooden tables with a bowl of salsa on top of them, for the rest of the party, which continued until 10 pm.
In fact, she left before many of my guests had even arrived. So, even though we paid thousands of dollars for catering (for tacos), we sent cleanup staff that we had hired separately to go to the store to buy additional food. I was later told by guests that Melissa yelled at them as they were making plates that they were taking too much food. Some of my guests left the party briefly to go eat at Pizza Delicious (which is awesome) and then come back. It was pretty mortifying, to say the least.
After the party, I reached out to Melissa to try to discuss what occurred and give her an opportunity to explain what happened. When I was finally able to speak with her after multiple attempts, she was adamant that the failure in service was my guests' fault because they ate too much and was quite rude about the entire ordeal. Although she admitted that she ran out of food and left within an hour of the three hour contracted for service, acknowledged that there were less guests than the contract called for, acknowledged that she only had one cook and not two, and acknowledged that there were no tortillas made on site (which was the main reason we contracted with her in the first place), and heard that we had to spend hundreds of dollars after she left by sending someone to the store to get additional food for our guests, she refused to refund us any of our money or do anything at all to remedy the situation. In fact, she did not even apologize.
I write this review only because I relied on many other reviews in choosing a caterer for this very, very special event that we cannot re-do. I'd warn anyone who is considering hiring this catering company to not do so. There are so many other amazing caterers in this town. Please choose someone else.
