Q39 was definitely the best BBQ we had when visiting the KC area. We tried Joe’s (formally Oklahoma Joe’s) and Jack Stack for a comparison. Q39 was clearly #1, followed closely by Jack Stack, and Joe’s a distant 3rd. The smoked/grilled pork belly was amazing as well as the beef brisket and burnt ends. Also, the BBQ sauce was fantastic. I wish this restaurant was in my home town!

Diana Laney

Had the brisket plate with burnt ends, potato salad and baked beans, wonderful! Tom the bartender took care of us. He makes the best southern sweet tea ever !

Aurora Vintilescu

Amazing! Deserves more than 5 stars. Exceptional barbecue meat (better than anywhere else we tried in Kansas City). Wholeheartedly recommend.

We got seated very quick. They put us in a back room. Whole time we had lunch all I could hear is cars starting, car doors closing. It took 15 to 20 minutes just to get drinks. We ordered and the food came. I had a combo plate with fatty burnt ends three small brisket slices and soggy fries. I believe on the menu it said crispy fries. Just for that it cost me $16. My girlfriend had a barbecue sandwich again the meat was fatty and the fries were soggy. Her daughter had a barbecue chicken sandwich and fries and hers came out fine she liked her’s. The whole dinner cost me about $60. I wish I could have that hour and a half back I would spend that $60 someplace else. The one star I gave is too generous. It wouldn’t let me post without it.

Excellent food and service! Tender, tasty meats: brisket, ribs, pulled pork: all GREAT! Great crispy fries and carrot cake, too! Even when busy, our server was friendly, helpful and on top of refilling our tea and water. Highly recommend! We WILL be returning whenever we're in KC!

Eric Peterson

As always, mouth watering delicious! Pretty much everything is amazing. Just avoid the beans.

Michael Pattengale

I sat at the bar since I was traveling solo, for business. The bartender, Isaac, walked me through the menu and suggested 2 options I should consider since it was my first time. He made me an amazing cocktail as well. The food was absolutely bomb. The chipotle ketchup and spicy bbq were great. The grilled veggies were really good, too. Great atmosphere, amazing food and even better service. If you’re in a group, plan to wait for a table. Don’t worry, it’s worth it.

Noah Mamo

Thought this place was great until we had Jack Stack the next day. Still, was pleased with my meal. Burnt ends and pork belly were the highlights.

Donald Moore M.D.

Sometimes you have food that changes your standard for a food genre. I would put Q39 pretty close to that level. I ate way too much barbecue during my recent trip to KC and this was the last of them so I thought I was barbecued out. Not my first barbecue binge but that's another story. In short, everything I tasted here was perfect. I got the judges plate with pulled pork, brisket, pork spare ribs, and added in an extra pork belly option. Seasoned veggies for a side (healthy meal right?) and apple crisp for dessert (just kidding). Pork belly and brisket were absolutely the most tender but the pulled pork was seasoned well and the ribs were falling off the bone. See pic for veggies. Apple crumble was crispy and not too sweet. Didn't get any beer but the selection was very respectable. This place deserves all the awards they've gotten. I will 100% be coming back here when I come back to kansas city. I'd pay a lot to have some of this food overnighted to me.

Matt McClung

UNREAL! If you stop anywhere in KC make sure it’s here! Hands down the best meat I’ve ever had. Ive never eaten any other BBQ that even holds a candle to it!

Keoni Young

Absolutely best BBQ!! Thought it is Joe's, was swayed quickly when I came here. YUMMY!! Only bad thing about Q39, the wait. To be expected for such a great place though. We just popped next door for a beer while we waited. ♥️

Sherry Kvasnicka-Clarkson

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. Sausage corn dogs were good; pork belly corn dogs didn't have much flavor. Burnt ends were very tender...but not actually burnt ends, but cut up brisket. BBQ sauces were amazing. We'd recommend those to anyone. Our waiter was amazing...which made up for the less than stellar food.

Anthony Caligiuri

Best brisket I have ever had. Sauces were great. Sides were decent. Wings are

Randall Sgro

A wonderful BBQ restaurant. The brisket is amazing. The burnt ends appetizer could be a meal of it's own for one but more fun to share The judges plate is the way to go so you can try the ribs chicken and brisket. Speaking of the chicken it is so moist and tastey. To finish off the dinner try the cheese cake you will not regret it but I suggest sharing

Stacey Aikens

The food is fantastic. The ribs fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. Our server, Steven, was top notch, too. If you go, ask for him. It is crowded, but the wait wasn't too long. You will be glad you waited.

Rachel Lucassen

Wow! Without a doubt some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The brisket was tender with great taste, pulled pork had a subtle smoky taste that made it perfect. My husband had ribs and burnt ends that he went crazy over. For my side I had fries and even those were yummy. I have already suggested Q39 to many friends. I can't wait to go back again.

Richard Davis

Top be honest. I don't know why the whole world doesn't know about this place. The service was excellent. We got the wings as an appetizer. Which were great. I had a full order of there ribs. I couldn't get through them all and I tried my best. Best I can remember ever having. My wife got the brisket and burnt ends. I'll admit when it came out I thought that's not very much food. But she couldn't get through it all. I will definitely be going back to this place to try there other items on the menu. Everything I seen come out of the kitchen looked excellent.

Derek B

Man, this place is great! If the smell from outside doesn't get you then smoky aroma inside will. Burnt end appetizer is phenomenal. Be cautious as it does sell out from time to time. I went with a group of 7 so we all go different things and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals.

Tanya Who cares

What an amazing experience! Food was stellar, waitress was amazingly knowledgeable and of course the food of Championship BBQ!!!!! Thank you for being a memorable experience on this trip to KC!

Dustin Smedstad

Best KC BBQ. I'm not an expert among the regional BBQ enthusiasts out there. However between the dozens of BBQ restaurants I have been to in St Louis, KC and Indiana this is my favorite! I won't say the best beyond KC as I again am not an expert. The burnt ends and brisket are just perfect. Juicy and just the correct amount of smoke. Mr Burns sandwich is amazing! The wings are excellent! The sauces are distinct and tasty. Gets my vote as best in KC! You won't regret the trip.

megan

Burnt ends were really good.the brisket was really thick and pretty good but not better than thinner brisket. The brisket was not fatty though which was great. The original BBQ sauce was super good. We also had the chicken which was good but mostly because of the BBQ sauce. The ribs were also pretty good. Our waitress was really great she recommended the burnt ends, ribs and brisket. We also had an apple sangria which was ok. We got right in on a weekday at 11 and the food was fast and the waitress was really patient with all of our questions. Overall the BBQ and service were great!

Artur Stypula

#amazing that sums it up. Food, to die for. Staff, super friendly, fun & knowledgeable

Ben Willis

Josh at the bar was great helping me navigate my tastebuds. Great BBQ and local beer on tap. Highly recommended

Sarah Happe

Delicious food, well worth the prices! Friendly staff helped make the visit even better. I live 4 hours away, but would happily make a weekend trip to eat here again.

Chad Holmes

Best BBQ in Kansas City! Ribs are so tender and flavorful. All other meats equally as delicious. Service is always great!

Ashley Wingert

Oh my word, the baked beans were the real prize winners here! The ribs were excellent, and the sausage was worth taking about too. Great flavor and quick service!

Cherie D Singletary

Original Q39 according to manager, Lauren, who came over & visited with me. It was my first visit to this Q39. Very kind & professional staff!! Go above & beyond to share their insights in to all things KC for those of us who aren't native to the area. I had the Salmon Salad -it was exceptional!!

Ashley Padgett

So glad we made a reservation even on a Monday. Place was packed but definitely worth it. Food was all fall off the bone delicious. Best barbecue I had in Kansas City. When I go back in August I know I'll be coming back there.

Courtney Taylor

We went on a saturday night after the KC oddities and curiosities expo. There were 8 of us and we were sat right away by the manager wearing a pink sweater. If she sees this review, she was excellent, super friendly and loved all our tattoos

Mista RareBreed

This is a good spot to get BBQ. However it's better to make a reservation. We went on a Wednesday and it was supper packed. The wait was over a hour and a half. So we left and made reservations for Friday. It was super packed again but with reservations we were good to go.

richard grack

The wings are as good as they say they are. The pulled pork was excellent. Ribs were tender and very meaty. Brisket was perfectly cooked. The sauce was a tad spicy but not overwhelming. The nice part of Q39 is that my colleagues with dietary restrictions were able to get full meals as well. The Buffalo Cauliflower was a tremendous portion.

Nikolas Pugmire

It's been weeks since I dined here and I'm still thinking about those sausage and pork belly corn dogs... If you dine here, that app is a must. Everything else I ordered here was on point, and the service was wonderful. I will absolutely be back when I visit Kansas City in the future and would recommend Q39 to anyone.

Dennis Mutz

Amazing barbecue also surprisingly fast service for how busy it was. Servers were awesome as well pretty positive attitudes for being so busy. Overall five stars very impressed.

KingCdogg1

Very clean and fancy. Wonderful staff and amazing food. Best BBQ in KC.

Sergio Hernandez

Best BBQ I've had in Kansas City! The sauce has the right amount of spice to it while the brisket is so tender you only need a fork to eat it. The ribs are spectacular as well, falling off the bone!

Pat OToole

I’ve been to most top ranked BBQ places in Missouri and Texas. I’ll admit that in general, I find TX BBQ to be better (as a caveat to my review). Joes KC is the best I’ve had in KC and heard this place was better. Had the ribs, brisket, wings and pulled pork. Pork Ribs- excellent. Cooked to perfection, good sauce. Pulled Pork- Good. Not Carolina good, but tasty Wings- Decent as well. Good smoky flavor and cooked well Brisket- Not good. This is the Texas bbq fan in me, but I’ve not had good brisket outside the state and Q39s was not good. Little smoke flavour, undercooked. Tried to cover it up with sauce. There’s a reason people wait 4 hours at Franklin’s and drive 2 hours to wait 2 hours in line at Snows in TX...Brisket here just not near the same level Service was great, fast and friendly. Would go again for a good meal. However, would not recommend it as ‘can’t miss’ BBQ.

Ashley Gruhlke

This BBQ is wonderful. The burnt ends, brisket, and pulled pork are so delicious, I would have tried to make room for more. Well worth the wait on a busier evening.

Daisy Murphy

The ribs, brisket and burnt ends are so flavorful that you don't need their delicious BBQ sauce. When traveling across American, we still compare other places to Q39. The Smokey Brandy cocktail was excellent too. Traveling solo so I sat at the bar. The guys working that night were super nice. And super attentive, which is not always the case for a woman flying solos. Drinks (I had the smoked Lemon Drop), and food were fantastic. Try the burnt ends!

Pedro Paredes

Solid BBQ, great atmosphere for a drink or cocktail at lunch or dinner. Have a few options to try the brisket, burnt ends, ribs, or even chicken wings. BBQ is a regional fare so if you are used to S. Carolina or Texas, know this is KC, which is its own thing. If in KC, this place is worth the uber ride.

Kelly Mazur

The burnt ends burger was fabulous!! We had the pork belly app which was a perfect bite. You get two pieces with slaw and a dreamy BBQ aioli.

Leandrita Ortega

This is the only place I go for BBQ when I'm in Kansas City. Portions are perfect for sharing. The mac and cheese is amazing and worth the $7 extra you pay for it (and very shareable as well). The buffalo cauliflower is a newer offering and also delicious. And the service is top notch...attentive but not intrusive or pushy. Love it!

Rhonda Ulrich

The best brisket my Husband and I ever had! Pulled pork was juicy and not sauced which is how we prefer. The sausage was good but I've had better. Chicken was moist and smokey, and the ribs were excellent

nima talebi

If you're ever driving through Kansas city, this is a must stop. Great service, amazing BBQ, and great atmosphere. Second time I've visited and was even better the second time. I highly recommend the brisket and pulled pork.

Rory Colbert

Fantastic BBQ at Q39. Every single person I encountered in Kansas City recommended it as the best place to get barbecue while I was in the city. They were not wrong! I had the mixed platter with burnt ends and ribs, with a side of potato salad, fries, and bread. Ribs were fall off the bone tender, and the burnt ends are now my favourite thing to eat. I have a food allergy and the server was incredibly helpful and I had no issues while there. Highly recommend Q39.

Brid_brid Packwood

Amazing food and amazing service our waiter William (Glen) was fantastic!! Knew the menu and helped us pick out some delicious choices off the menu!! Enjoyed his company and will come back next time I’m in town. Thanks for the best first experience Glen!!

Cordelia Brown

Very good. The joint was jumping! We had wings and a cheesy brisket sandwich. Delicious in every single bite. Bartenders were nice and thoughtful. Go!

J osh

Disclaimer: I'm actually not that into a full BBQ meal. The food was good, I wasn't really into it but I knew it was good while eating it but the whole family enjoyed it. Our first complaint is the tap water had a weird after taste, we all noticed it. Second, my wife ordered the Sangria and it tasted like nothing but wine. Not the least bit fruity. And not a complaint but a note, they don't have a side of mashed potatoes or even a baked potato. The baked beans were decent.

Donna Mendoza

The best bbq in Kansas City! Everything we ate was amazing. I ordered the chicken and pork belly and my friends ordered the brisket. The food was delicious and the service was great! I definitely recommend this restaurant. Be warned there will be a wait.

Marc Laroche

Best ribs I've ever had. Amazing burnt ends. Their 'poutine' is actually hitting very close to classic/accurate (coming from the land of poutine). Serving staff was amazing. Very recommended.

Scott Driscol

Ok, we are from Texas and very proud of our BBQ, but this place is as good as Blacks in Lockhart TX and as good as a number of other places in Texas. Bottom line the food is out standing! Now about the service... It was better than the food! Our server was one of the nice people I have ever meet. I just wish I could remember her name. She was African American with a bit of a round face and as sweet as anyone you ever meet. If your in Kansas City MO you must eat here...

Erick Castro

Pretty bustling place. Good food and reasonable prices. Portions were decent size, staff was friendly. Food came out quickly. Wish they had more BBQ sauce that came with some of the dishes, but I could have asked for more, so no biggie. Overall would recommend.

Jonner Carroll

Had an amazing night here and it really comes down to our waiter William (Glen) he really knows his stuff And was pretty much a comedian for us! He made the night for us hands down! Will definitely be back just because of him! Food was amazing also!

Mario Perales

Great food and great service. I went during Father's day but they seated me pretty quick. Ran me though the menu and offered suggestions when the ribs were gone (which is a good problem to have). Tried the brisket and it was awesome! Servers were awesome and held conversations well. They were very aware of customer's need. Overall recommend!

Sarah George

This place is phenomenal. Showed up 15 minutes after they opened and the parking lot was already full. We got in and sat immediately but the restuarant filled up within 30 minutes. I got a pork belly with apple sandwich and french fries. My boyfriend got 3 of their competition meats. We also got a MOUNTIAN of onion straws as an appetizer. All of the food was delicious. The onion straws melted in your mouth. His ribs just fell right off the bone. This is the BBQ joint i go to anytime I'm in KC.

Progressive Powersports

Nice burnt ends and thick delicious brisket. The ribs are the best I had in my 2 day KC BBQ adventure.

Mike Schwabauer

There is lots of great BBQ in Kansas City, from old traditions to newer up-and-comers, and Q39 is consistently in my top 2 or 3 when people ask. But with each time I go, with its more full-service experience, it is hard to deny that it really has my top spot. The BBQ is, necessarily, FANTASTIC, but so are the drinks, dessert and staff.

Jon Van Pinxteren

The wait is long because it's well known, but there's a reason. There's not a meat on the menu I've tried that isn't worth it! I've gone for the pork, beef, and sausage and it's all been amazing. The place is busy and packed, but the servers move fast and are ready for the heavy workload. They're friendly and helpful

Chase Nelson

Best barbecue I've ever had. I tried every meat and all of them were amazing. The only one that wasn't as good was the pulled pork, which is pretty standard for barbecue. I highly recommend Q39.

Ashley Contreras

We had the best experience here! We are from Oregon and were in town for just two days. All of our Uber drivers recommended this place so we gave it shot! Our waiter was so friendly and funny, he made us feel like we were best of friends. I wish we could come back. Please come to Portland!!!

David Jones

Amazing KC BBQ!! The burnt ends are so good! It's worth the wait, so if you encounter a line, be patient. You won't regret it.

Matthew Schumacher

Most restaurants have nothing on the menu that a person will remember past a couple of days. The burnt ends here I'll remember for their excellent flavor and texture for a long time. It was like great BBQ and a great steak at the same time. Magical.

Jesus Madera

BBQ was DELICIOUS! Service was Fast and Courteous. Drinks were well served. Atmosphere was Great! RECOMMENDED for anyone who loves BBQ.

Brittany Cauble

The food was great! The service was fast and friendly. You just have to make sure I find a parking spot because it took about 15 minutes or have a reservation in advance. The place was busy so you know it's good if it's busy.

Quynh Lifeisreal

4.5 star ! Arrived at 9.30pm Friday night. Busy but no line. Staff was very friendly and helpful with the suggestions. The burnt ends were the best I've had. Very flavorful and fatty, melted in the mouth. The Mac and cheese was very good, you won't want to share it with your partner. The brisket was also good, but on the dry side for my preference. The rib was on the firm side for my preference, but still juicy and nicely flavored. The sauces helped, but I don't care much for them. The apple slaw was on the too mayonaise-y for me. Overall, great BBQ and dining experience.

Tam

Food is amazing! I was so full. They have so many options for drinks and food. Fun vibe too. It can take awhile to get a table. But it's worth the wait. Our waitress was also helpful in helping us choose drinks and what to eat.

Maureen Elias

Everyone insisted we go there and I am so glad we did. The service was great and even though there were a LOT of people waiting outside when we got there, the lines moved fast. It was delicious! I was bummed the burnt end appetizer wasn't available and you could only get them on a sandwich or with brisket. But it was yummy! A must visit in Kansas City!

Carissa Allen

Delicious brisket!! Fairly pricey, but it is amazing BBQ. One of the best in KC! It is a fairly loud restaurant, and the waits are long but worth it!

L'Britney Moore

This place is so amazing! Our waiter was one of the best I have experienced in a long time. He was really good with the kids and fast delivery. He knew the business and the menu. His name was Tom. The wings are so amazing or maybe it was the SAUCE!!!!!! Anytime we visit Kansas we will have to stop by. Best Sweet Tea and I added a little lemonade

Jumelx Pluviose

The food was AMAZING! Everyone said this food was going to be great and it truly was. We had onion straws, Mac and cheese, and these other things idk the name but all were great. I ordered the Combo plate which had brisk cuts with bbq chicken and it was all done so well. I recommended the combo platter or the burnt ends and onion straws for appetizers!!

Harry Moore

Recommended by a friend as it was my first time enjoying some KC BBQ at Q39. Quality meat, good spice and thick smoke flavor make this A+. I had the brisket which was moist but not fatty and one extra rib for $3. Local pils was spot on for the beverage. Cucumbers and onion and baked beans were good sides. I'll be back.

Kenneth Jones

What can I say, this is easily the best BBQ I've ever had! The service was unbelievable. Felt like I was at home. The waitress made some very good suggestions which turned out to be right on the money. Couldn't recommend it highly enough! Burnt ends and pulled pork is a must! Go, you won't be disappointed!

Rafael Flores

Great BBQ place. We shared ribs, pulled pork and brisket, with beans, coleslaw and fries as sides. The people waiting outside were a good indicator of the popularity of the place. We were seated promptly and the food was served quickly. I will add Q39 to the places to definitely visit again.

Analee Christensen

It's a bit of a wait, but totally worth it! Friendly staff, servers who know the food, good prices, and legit BBQ. The mac n cheese is so good, you won't want to share it! Ribs were tender and had amazing smoky flavor. We'll be back!

Pat Phelan

A group of friends met at Q39 for supper after an all day technical event. The wait for a table of eight was an hour at 5:30 on a Saturday evening. I rarely if ever wait that long, but in this case there wasn't a viable alternative. I love to people-watch, so it was fun to chat with friends outside and people-watch inside while we waited. The place was filled beyond capacity and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The servers were spread thin, I suspect that Q39 might have been short handed that night. The servers worked well independently and as a team to ensure that the customers were happy. I wish that I'd gotten our servers name, he deserves to be singled out for recognition. The food was excellent. I know meat, and eat quite a variety of it. The meat on my plate was high quality and cooked well... I'm picky, and I was very happy with it. This was the first time I've been back to Kansas City in a decade, but I will remember Q39 on my next visit!

Molly Barlow

Great food and service. Love their thick cut brisket with delicious burnt ends. Their wings were great too.

Keith Lehman

Amazing selection without too complicated a menu. BbQ is delicious in the heart of Kansas City and everything was cooked extremely well. Great for both Corporate get togethers as well as family dining. Prices are VERY reasonable and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I highly encourage a visit.

Richard Lin

Q39 has great drinks and amazing bbq although the wait was a bit on the long side. We had a great experience here while visiting Kansas City.

Roger Gladback

I only get to KC around once a month but when I do, I try to get by the Q

L N

Simply Scrumptious Q39 was recommended by a local friend who comes here quite often. As a visitor, I was impressed by the number of guests here but how quickly we were taken. The food was a 10+ and the staff was great. It’s down the street from my childhood home, and when in town I’d go again. This is a place to remember.

Victoria Hinkle

Excellent food! Wonderful staff! They were busy...but we got a great table! I'll be back

Chrissy Sperry

Wow! The best BBQ I've ever had! Was here on vacation. I'm a Texan and no good BBQ but no place in TX has BBQ like this. KC truly is the beef capital of the world! Everything was outstanding! My whole fam was impressed. The brisket, wings, pulled pork, bacon wrapped shrimp, sausage and all the sides were stupid good! Great atmosphere. Service was friendly and amazing. One of the best dining experiences in my life. YOU MUST COME HERE!

Tyson Kelley

Always a treat. The staff is crazy nice, and the food is to die for. Be prepared to wait if you don't make a reservation (read: make a reservation) because they are always busy. And for good reason.

Steven Gonzales

Coming from a person who is *not* much of a BBQ fan, this place was outstanding. Not only is the BBQ top notch, but EVERYTHING was just fantastic. Beans, Potato salad, Cucumber salad... all absolutely fantastic. My friend and I had two separate meals and we couldn’t find a bad or so-so item on our plates. Believe the hype - this is the real deal.

Anastasia Halpin

Hello BBQ-you must go ASAP and make a reservation! (or you'll wait forever) We had the brisket, and ribs and one person in our group had a burger with burnt ends on it. The ribs were the best we've ever had and we've had many. The burger was on a level all it's own with those burnt ends adding even more deliciousness. We also had their adult beverage of the month and loved it!

geezerfetus .

Well this place was great. I would advise getting a reservation. It can get packed fast. I'm not going to judge it in regards to other BBQ places. I will simply say the food was on point. We had enough people in the group that we all were able to order a variety of things and try them all. Q39 is worth the trip to Midtown.

Alexa Cody

BBQ this delicious should be outlawed. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we had, but the Burnt Ends were the life of this BBQ party! So darn good!

Michelle Estrada

Best bbq! Visiting from CA and we tried 3 bbq places. THIS WAS THE BEST. The burnt tips appetizer was enough for my meal. Ribs were tender, brisket could be cut with a fork.

Jack Hughman

Mouthwatering-amazing. I cannot say enough. I thought I had real BBQ and then I tasted this and my entire palate was reset. This is an experience. Wow.

Jason Moore

The place is said to always be busy but we were able to squeek in for a late lunch and the food was delicious! The brisket and burnt ends were amazingly tender and flavorful. The staff were friendly and helpful. We are definitely adding Q39 as a must-visit the next time we're in town!

Justin Pierce

Amazing. The best BBQ we found in KC. Less of an emphasis on sauce (although good) and more on perfectly cooked meats, sides, and service. Go here first! Must try: Burnt ends, ribs, brisket, pulled pork

Jess Kubec

Can I give them 10 stars!? Hands down the very best barbeque in all of Kansas City. The meat is so flavorful, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth and the signature sauce deserves every award they happily display on their walls. Having lived in KC for a while, we've had a LOT of different BBQ. I don't know why we'd ever go back.

Cole

Food was great, it true BBQ in my opinion because it didn't need BBQ sauce, it was amazing without it. But with that being said the BBQ sauce was just as good which is rare to have both. It was busy that day so my wife and I sat at the bar. Both of the bartenders were great. The made jokes and made the experience fun and one to remember. We don't make it to KC often, but when we do we will definitely be making a trip to Q39.

Christopher Delance

I truly wanted to give it 4 stars, I really did. Our server Tom was Top Notch! He was quick with the recommendations, and everything he suggested was great. He was polite and very courteous. Now the food; we got the wing appetizer and the Mac and cheese appetizer. Both were very good. The Mac was cheesy and tasted great, perfect for two people to split. The wings were good, with a but of sweet tang to them. (Super messy though) As far as entrees, we ordered the pork belly sandwich and a slab of ribs. That sandwich was amongst the best BBQ sandwiches I've ever had. As far as the ribs go, they were what you would expect from a high level BBQ restaurant. So in my opinion, if you're looking for good food and service, definitely go. But the things that bothered me were very upsetting. We were apart of a reservation for 15 ppl that had been confirmed twice before we arrived, yet they were unable to accommodate us because of mistakes and weren't willing to fix it because it would mess up other reservations. So to me, I felt our group was not as important as the other newer groups. And lastly, the A/C was out in the section that we dined in. We were informed that it had been out for quite some time (three weeks). So it was unfortunate that this happened because it could have been a wonderful dining experience otherwise. So because of those issues I give three stars instead of 4 or even 5.

rdmtthw .

Amazing food. Burnt Ends were not traditional burnt ends but absolutely delicious. The staff was amazing and I would go back.

Rosa O'Brocki

The food was beyond amazing. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The service was great as well. We are in Overland Park, Kansas for a soccer tournament but will be making the 25 minute drive to eat there again tomorrow.

Alan Chairez

I ordered the combo plate with the brisket and spare ribs and was highly satisfied. Service was incredibly quick and friendly and my table never needed to ask for drink refills. Highly recommend this establishment

Mak Gawd

This place has amazing BBQ and literally almost everything else. Their sandwiches were nice as well. The only catch is that you have to be brave enough to get a little messy, but that's just how people eat there. Great food. Great place to eat. HIGHLY SUGGEST MAKING RESERVATIONS. Unless you wanna wait some quality time. I went on a Saturday evening but I had made reservations. I went to eat, an hour or so had passed and when I was leaving I saw the same people waiting for a table on my way out. Packed!

Clement Muwele

Great food, good vibes and relaxing environment. I highly recommend this place! There is really nothing quite like Kansas BBQ! And ...try the Chipotle sausage as well!

Diana Jones

We are new to Fort Leavenworth. After asking around, we were told that Q39 was one of the best BBQ places in Kansas City. Went with family and had some fall-off- the- bone bbq. Burnt ends were amazing! Our waitress, Brandy, was sweet, knowledgeable of menu, and very polite. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Side note: we drove 45min to get there, and the place was PACKED! I was SOOO happy that we only waited a very short time (5min) to be seated. 5 stars!!

Katrina Schneweis

The best barbecue my boyfriend and I have ever had. We have to stop here every time we visit KC!!! A little pricey but totally worth it. Definitely try the bacon wrapped shrimp or the Q Burger!

Francine Williams

Absolutely amazing! The food was great and service was great. Our server was Trey and he gave my family of nine exceptional service. I definitely enjoyed myself and will be back the next time I’m in Kansas City.

Stephanie Warren

We had a reservation and were a little early. Got seated right away even though there was a line at the door! Server was awesome and food held up to our expectations. Sides had just the right amount of flavor and meat just the right amount of smoke. Tender and tasty! Beer list great as well! Will be back next time we are in Kansas City. Eae

This was very possibly the best barbeque I have ever had. Sauce to meat to side, everything was wonderful! It was super busy, but the server was still friendly and it didn't take too long to get our food. Highly recommend Q39! I hope to come back every time I visit KC.

Hannah Lamson

This was the best BBQ I've ever had! I highly recommend eating here, the wait is worth it! Got the loaded fries appetizer, so good. Also got the brisket&beef tips with apple slaw (Cole slaw but also with green apple, yum!) and orzo salad. So satisfying!

J Walton

The food was phenomenal and our server, Caroline, was AMAZING!! We were visiting from out of town and not only did she make stellar menu recommendations, but she made great recommendations for places to visit in town. We can't wait to come back!

MariaRye3 .

I am a tough critic, but this place is amazing! Food and service tops. No complaints

Pam Sherrod

Really good and imaginative food. Way too noisy. They could use sound baffles of some kind. Wouldn't go again until that issue were resolved.

Rob Curry

Another highly recommended spot in KC. I sat at the bar, great staff and super attentive even though the place was packed at 6 pm on a Monday. I ordered the brisket and rib combo with beans and apple slaw. The brisket was tender, juicy and the sauce was just a nice accent, it really didn't even need it. It was reasonably priced (but one more slab of brisket wouldn't hurt) and I'll be back for sure.

Nicholas Hansen

Second time coming to Q39 and it did not disappoint. The barbaque ribs are to die for, with the meat literally falling off the bone. We also had the burnt ends and brisket, all of which were some of the best we've ever had. Definitely could offer some better sides, but if you are wanting excellent, smoked meat, you've got to try it out.

Always try to visit a BBQ joint I haven't been to when I'm home visiting family. Q39 is now firmly among my favorite places in KC. Got the Judge's lunch plate with sausage, pulled pork and brisket. The brisket was the star. Tender, juicy and bursting with smokey goodness. Some of the best brisket I've ever had. Truly didn't even need sauce it had so much flavor. The pulled pork was flavorful and juicy (plus plentiful helping). I'm pretty picky with pulled pork, and this hit the spot. I thought the sausage was OK, but I honestly didn't matter given how strong the brisket and pork were. The environment is more upscale than, say, Joe's, but feels less like a restaurant than Jack Stack. Great casual lunch lunch spot. Highly recommend.

Christopher Schumacher

I don't know where to start - this place was off the chain! I had a late flight into Kansas City, and my wife and I jetted over to try this spot before they closed. The food was unbelievable. I've never had better BBQ in my life, and it was my first time trying Burnt Ends. I tried the Mr. Burns sandwich, and it was just phenomenal. Apple coleslaw was the best I've ever had. On top of the tasty food, the servers were all so friendly. I love venturing to places in the world where everyone is friendly, which describes everyone who helped us. You HAVE to come here.

Mike Unger

Excellent KC Barbecue!! I’m not an expert per se but am well acquainted with the four food groups: Carolina Barbecue, TX Barbecue, Memphis Barbecue and of course my favorite Kansas City Barbecue. Q39 is the epitome of KC Barbecue! I’ve had all of the “top ten” and in my humble opinion, Q39 is the best!

Parking is limited especially on weekends. I highly recommend making a reservation if you're planning on a weekend visit. There was a 90 min wait on Saturday night. Luckily I made a reservation and we got right in and seated. Food was outstanding and service was wonderful!

Justin Lindsey

Gotta be the best burt ends and brisket I've ever had. I've never had brisket like that son! Get the triple threat sandwich. I liked the beans and potato salad and fries and ribs. Service was excellent and professional. Seating can get tight. More parking in the back. Wings were good but nothing special to me. Lots of tasty sauce options. Take your guests here and you won't disappoint. I heard that to-go orders are limited. Looks like they have a nice room in back to accommodate groups. Plus seating near screened in area if you prefer the fresh air. I don't give many five star reviews people.

Nick G.

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had, every bit of the meal is carefully thought out and delicious. Outstanding service. I won't miss hitting Q39 any time I'm in town.

andy crabb

Hands down the best BBQ I've ever had!! And that's saying something that this place is special. This place was amazing from it's wings, brisket and sausage that I had. Will absolutely be stopping back by when I'm back in KC and would HIGHLY recommend eating here any chance you get.

Leslie Fleming

My husband and I both got the brisket. He had the baked beans with his and I had the potato salad. They were both very good. But the brisket was fabulous! It was so tender and juicy that it melted in your mouth and the barbeque sauce was excellent! And we had a wonderful waitress to top it off! Great barbecue and atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Kimberly Vitiello

Amazing food, great service. Definitely make a reservation, you will not regret it! The food was great and the prices were great too. Our server Chase was wonderful, very attentive (even with a packed restaurant), and also very friendly with a side of humor. The appetizers and main dishes were absolutely delicious. The bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer pictured below was delectable. And the Q burger OMG, I will be dreaming about that burger until I come back to Kansas city and have another one. Definitely a must when you are in Kansas City! You will not be disappointed!!

Anna Spexarth

Fantastic food and service! Recommend making a reservation ahead of time since the wait for even 2 people can easily be over an hour at any given time. Cannot recommend this place more!

Anshuman Bhatia

What can you say. This place is perfect. Excellent service and quick food. Only had to wait about 30 minutes on Saturday night. The wings and burnt ends are not to be missed. The waiter was great, really helped us max out the menu and check everything out. The best BBQ of KC. Also loved the restaurant, wasn’t too upscale, yet was a notch above. Highly recommend.

Lisa Walters

Service was excellent. Brisket, ribs, and burnt ends all juicy and delicious. Mac and cheese definitely worth ordering.

Cyril Philip

Best BBQ in the KC area. Their burnt ends were made to perfection, along with the pork belly. Got the Judges plate so was able to try the pulled pork, ribs, and sausage- all three were amazing. Also generally quick service despite it being super crowded.

Lilly LossnerStonehocker

Delicious BBQ! Appetizers, sandwichs, platters, dessert. The onion strings we're so good, greasy but I couldn't stop eating them with the honey barbeque dipping sauce. I had the pork ribs, my husband had the brisket, pulled pork and Chipotle sausage. The cucumber salad in Italian dressing was great. All the sides looked good. I recommend to pass on the fries. Definitely go!

Nimesh Shah

Great food. Service was quick and servers were always available. Location may not be the best and parking could be a hassle; depends on the time you go there. Deserves a 5 star but giving a 4 because of the location. Wish it was more easily accessible

Mark Karan

Brisket is excellent. So are the wings and ribs. Sides could be better. Overall really worth the trip. Highly recommend it. Great staff and service.

Lyl Rose

Fantastic BBQ! Our waiter Devon was great! We had a quick and tasty lunch that was reasonably priced. The brisket was amazing and the beer cold. Good spot!

Shannah Shandersky

So, I’m just going to say. As an out of towner, I absolutely LOVE this place. Host... excellent. Got us seating right away we went around 2:30pm on a weekday. Even after I called to ask what kind of beer was served.. he knew everything! Amazing. Server... the best! He helped us choose what would be ideal for us, knew his menu, didn’t write down our orders, but guys, get this, he remembered! There was 7 of us!!! I was super impressed. The ambiance was amazing. The food was delicious, that barbecue? To die for. I was happy, my family was happy, the draft beer was amazing. We loved it and cannot say anything more about how we loved it! Highly recommend!

John Meirowsky

My favorite spot for barbecue in Kansas City. Everything that you select is a great dish. We had ribs, brisket, pulled pork and sausage. All of them were excellent. Great sit down service. The wait staff is always very helpful in suggesting items and delivering food in a prompt fashion.

Patrick Liebl

This was amazing! We stopped here for lunch and had the Poutine and Burnt Ends for an appetizer, and also had the Judges plate with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, and also tried the Burnt End Burger. All were amazing and so full of flavor! The meats were perfectly done and their sauces were the best I have had. Also we purchased some seasonings and sauce before leaving, ya know since we were there. Definitely a must stop, even if there is a little wait.

LeClara Gilreath

This place is sooooo good! The burnt ends are phenomenal, the brisket is divine. Heck even the vegetables we fabulous. And the service was fast and exceeded expectations. Definitely recommend.

Colin Everett

Not just the best bbq I've ever had but one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The service is impeccable. The wings have ruined all other chicken wings for me they were so good. The ribs were so delicious we had to get a whole rack to go. Brisket was absolutely fantastic. The burnt ends were so moist and flavorful. Go here. Seriously.

Mike Moorhouse

Very consistent BBQ with excellent Service. Group of 5 had reservations on a very busy Saturday afternoon, we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Our server (Tristen) was very helpful especially to three members of our group who had not been there before. This is not "traditional" KC BBQ with the usual sweet BBQ sauce but rather more a more urban take urban take on BBQ with a tangy BBQ sauce. I myself just use BBQ sauce as something to dip mt BBQ in versus having it coated with sauce. The Brisket, Burnt Ends and Bean are all top notch and worthy of KC BBQ standards. The atmosphere is fun and lively and the drink menu quite robust for a BBQ "joint".

adam c

Q39 is really good and one of the best in Kansas City. The brisket is so thick and juicy and should be a part of every order. The interior is nice and the barbecue sauce is the proper flavors to add to there delicious smoked meats. I also suggest adding the onion straws as they are great with the sauce. My family loves eating here or getting takeout.

Carlos Rivera

Food was out of this world. Burnt end sandwich was tangy mouth watering. Service was just as friendly as it could be. Server was knowledgable of all items and had great choice offering.

Katharine Dlouhy

Loved the macaroni and cheese. Brisket and ribs were both excellent, as were the (un-burnt) burnt ends. Very friendly waitress and hostess provided excellent service. We visited during a work trip to Kansas. It came highly recommended from peers living in Kansas City. We would definitely come back to eat at Q39.

Christi Roberts

Better bbq restaurants in KC and surrounding areas. Ribs, brisket and chicken tasted par boiled, sauce tasted like it was made with corn syrup, sticky gooey. French fries were excellent. In style modern decor with grey, grey and grey. I think the staff from Kansas University Hospital like it because of close proximity.

Misty C

Stopped in there because I hear that q39 is better than Jack Stack and although Jack Stack is not my favorite it is damn good, but I was not pleased that all with q39. I used the carryout, gentleman was very rude oh, I understand that he was in a fast pace but again customer service is a lot of what you're selling. I got the chicken wings because I heard they were phenomenal, not hardly they didn't seem that they had been fully cooked, they were tough and chewy and just kind of had a texture that said that it might be undercooked. I ate a half of one and I gave the rest away. I also got side of burnt ends because again I heard they were top-of-the-line phenomenal. I was not a fan they were dry and they were so miniscule in size and amount, I ate three the dog got the rest. Now don't get me wrong the dog really enjoyed the burnt ends. What I found myself doing shortly thereafter was purchasing a brisket and having my cousin smoke it and prepare it and his was a hundred times better than q39. Very well could have been an off day but as much as I paid for them oh, I'm more than likely will not go back. And I definitely will not recommend q39.

Peter Spexarth

Friendly service, normal wait for food. I suggest making a reservation before you go because everyone is wanting to eat here. Prices are a little steep for the amount of food you get. $12 for 4 bacon wrapped shrimp? Other than the price, its great quality food!

Mike P.

Awesome food. Everything at this place is good, it's not about being the best or better and everyone else it's just different unique and amazing food. Recommend burnt ends burger or ribs but all the food is good.

Maehlice Rin

I've had an identical experience both times: except for the beans, nothing stands out as a "must eat". (I think it may be because everything is just so good that nothing is able to stand out.) So, I recommend everything. Go with a group and share, so y'all can enjoy it all.

Eleanor Mjos

"Best wings on the planet" are literally the best I've had. My husband and I sampled many BBQ places in KC and this was my favorite (not just because of the wings)

Patrick Scheu

Small portions compared to St. Louis BBQ, and the brisket was dry because it was thinly sliced. Burnt ends were competition style and not burnt, so to speak, which means they were just brisket ends. Good service, though!

Matt Hill

This place lived up to the hype and our expectations! Make reservations and go enjoy incredible BBQ. The restaurant is packed, even on weeknights. The food is great. Wait for food was short. Excellent brisket. Excellent combination meals. Limited outdoor dining available on screened in porch. I'll be going back whenever I'm in town.

Queen Of French Fries

This is definitely the best barbecue I’ve ever had. The sauce was sweet but not too sweet and the texture of the meat was amazing. The meat came off of the bone easily. The burnt ends, brisket, baked beans, and ribs were incredibly delicious. The staff was friendly. The was one thing that bothered me. They sat us at a table that was yet to be wiped down but then moved us to a smaller table that was wiped down. I would definitely go here again. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants the Kansas City BBQ experience. I was amazed by how good this food is. If you ever get the chance to go there, please do.

Margaret Dixon

The food was awesome. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer, brisket, burnt ends with coleslaw for my entree, and their cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake is to die for! It is the best that I have ever had.

Jessica Mayo

Great food. Prepare to wait for a table but other than that, great experience. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were super friendly. And you could tell that everyone working there was hustling to take care of the patrons

Deb Vahl

Excellent food. Joel was great Fast service. I would recommend

Andrew Long

Stopped here for lunch before we headed back to Pennsylvania. So glad we did. It was the best BBQ and brisket I've ever had in my life. The chicken wings were amazing too. I stopped at Joe's the day before and I can honestly say this was better. Can't wait to get out to KC again to eat some more.

Crystal Rhoades

Excellent food. Very fast, we ordered and our app came in seconds. Waitress was very friendly and excited about the menu and took the time to tell us their most popular and best dishes because it was our first time there. Will definitely be returning soon and I usually don't return to restaurants. Definitely recommend.

Chris Wickell

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had. The triple threat sandwich is mouth watering. 3 of their best meats. I prefer the white beans over their BBQ beans. Also try the buffalo cauliflower. Unbelievable. Brandy you were an amazing waitress. Thank you!

Alvena Mironi

First time getting bbq in KC and this place definitely lived up to our expectations. I loved the angus brisket and the smoked half chicken. Absolutely perfect.

LewisTolkienFan01 .

Took my son to eat here and we had a great time! Great atmosphere, fantastic service! Onion straws were great! The Brisket was amazing! And the bbq sauces were second to none! Highly recommended! I look forward to coming back :)

Holli P

Best bbq in KC. Wings are a must have. Great atmosphere and music. Knowledgeable staff. Will be going back as much as possible.

Chase Downing

I’ve had BBQ across much of the United States, and after living in Texas for years - this is THE place to visit in KC. You won’t have a better brisket plate anywhere else. The staff is great, just be ready for a wait during busy times. A memorable stop for any occasion!

Marci Longren

First time visitor from out of state. Food was awesomely good. Great server who offered recommendations of top favorites. On my list to return to when I'm back in the area.

Sandman Peacekeeper

Loved the burnt ends. They were totally worth the trip. The pork belly and ribs were great too. The coleslaw has an apple taste to it that perfectly pairs with the meat and sauce. Our waiter Duane made the whole experience even better.

Nelson C.

The food is absolutely delicious. There’s always a long wait. Only down side is that the parking lot is pretty darn small for a popular spot like this. Sometimes I’d have to circle for a while or park on the street.

Joshua McArthur

Love this place. The chicken wings and the burnt ends are two of my favorite things that I have ever eaten anywhere. This is one of my wife and my favorite restaurant. We don't have much as students, but on special occasions we come here to eat. Everything we have eaten is delicious.
