Here you will be able to see all the reviews of real people who have information of the services of BlackStone (Catering) near Iowa.
As of day this firm gets a score of 4.4 out of 5 and the rating was based on 652 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is good, and it's based on a high number of scores, so we can think that the assessment is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to put tatings when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Catering corresponds to the category of American restaurant.
We love Blackstone! I will admit, I still get Mac and cheese each time. It's nice to not have to drive downtown or to Coralville for a decent dinner/drink spot. Definitely the best place on the East side.
Sunday brunch buffet was delicious!
Great food, good drinks. Prices always $1 over ideal, but still worthwhile.
Place is amazing. Never a bad meal. Good for family, a date or drinks. Prices are reasonable
Another of my all time favorite restaurants in iowa city. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks all of it. Definitely worth checking out.
Wasnt worth the trip across town. Service was awful, food was mediocre, and cant sit outside after 1000. Bar was loud.
It was Friday night and it was busy so I somewhat understand. But it took well over an hour to get our food. When the salads were delivered they were warm so we did not eat them. We told our server and he offered to replace them but we had already waited too long. They did take some off the bill but $ 2.00 per salad?... That was an insult more than a fix. Also the place was loud. Really loud. Entrees were fine but not a good night overall.
My wife and I try and go here every time we are over in the area. We always have great service (even at odd hours) and the food is delicious. If you're wanting an appetizer, try the smokehouse nachos, and their Martini selection is pretty good as well. It's very dark and well decorated here...I highly recommend!
Love the atmosphere. I wish there were more veg-friendly options.
Wonderful food and service
Black stone was a great place to stop on our way to Nebraska. The waiter did a fantastic job and all the food was good. My wife got a chicken sandwich that was a-little chewy in a part of the sandwich but that could have been due to the piece of meat. Overall really good and would go back.
Very good food and friendly waiter
Good food & good service. Will definitely go back again !
Great food .best Sunday brunch
Exceptional food, drinks and service!
Food was good, a bit pricey but the staff was awesome.
A little pricey but very good
Everyone kept telling me about the mac & cheese here so I was very excited to try it. Looked good upon arrival but tasted awful. Very little cheese sauce and a thick layer of cheese on top (thicker than pizza) made it exceptionally greasy and made me sick.
Our experience was average. Food was ok, service was good, and the overall atmosphere was average. We were seated at a booth that was near the walk-way to the main part of the dining room but did not feel like it was part of the restaurant. My daughter loved her fries and mac/cheese. My husband and I both felt our food was OK but not as good as we had hoped based.
I had an avocado BLT and it was excellent. The service was great.
Love love love! Favorite place to go when we come to Iowa city! Service and food is always excellent!! Great drinks too! Highly recommend!!!
Always great food, service and atmosphere
Terrific atmosphere, amazing cocktails, fair prices. This is a frequent stop for us, I might mark it on as slightly "upscale" dining, but you can hardly put a price on a good time, and we always have one when we're here. Best of all, they are appropriately staffed!!! So many restaurateurs don't get it, you need people! They have plenty here and provide quality service right on time.
Great food great service. Their Sunday brunch is worth the drive.
Wonderful and thoughtfully wait staff. Good at reading there customer. Amazing food. Been there many times. Never disappointed!!!!.
Great food and service
great food, the beer selection could be wider
Service was a little slow considering how many customers where there. However the food was amazing. We had a Cuban with fries and a salad, as well was the Satay appetizer. We’ve had the ribeye and Mac n cheese in the past, also yummy
This place was fabulous. The food was awesome the service was great. Very nice atmosphere. It was a very good experience. I would definitely go back and would recommend to my friends and family.
Great service and I loved the salad.
Always can get good food and service at Blackstone and best of all it's nearby. Delicious entrees with gluten free options.
I enjoy going here. Sometimes disappointed in the food presentation.
Love this place. Sat outside but we were well cared for.
Great food, consistency, great service, great people
Excellent food and very friendly service!
Great staff
Food is usually good. I am a regular. The wait for food and service getting longer lately. I’ve seen the quality diminish - the guacamole was cold and not fresh. The bourbon pour is so light I question if it is even an ounce for $12. Not impressed. I travel the US and my hometown pour at Blackstone is the worst - it barely covered the bottom of the glass. Do better!
Great as always. Their menu has great options for appetizers, entrees and side dishes. Drinks are so good and they have specials during the week. The place is comfortable and inviting. The patio is open for the summer to enjoy your drinks and dinner. You can't be disappointed.
Excellent brunch goid service. Always good at Blackstone.
Excellent service! They have an excellent selection of scotch, and the ribeye was perfectly cooked. Great flavors all around!
We had a party of 13 on a Saturday evening. We had a great waiter, great food. Our waiter got everyone's order correct, kept everyone's drinks filled and managed to get all the separate bills correct. We had a baby in our party and that didn't phase him either. We will definitely go back. BTW,,the food was great also!
Great food, awesome service. Had a great time with my family.
Very good, great wait staff and the food was excellent!
Spacious, quiet, except for the occasional child chuckling or laughing. Even the kids are well behaved! Food is great! The satay sampler is wonderful. You can eat vegetarian at Blackstone's (the power salad and other salads). Service is excellent, even when several servers serve you. I usually tip 20% unless a martini is forgotten (15%).
Favorite burger ever! Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone thinking of stopping! Amazing food with VERY friendly service and a Great atmosphere! Kind of an Upscale theme but casual at the same time! 100/10!
Drove 70 miles there to meet a friend in a storm for a pretty lousy lunch. My friend had a nice lunch. Mine I do believe was left under the warmer for quite awhile. I did eat it, since I was very hungry. I did NOT request a free meal and said I wanted to pay, they refused my money.
Good food, great service. I will be back.
Family dining. Excellent Food casual !
First time here. Wait staff didn't come around alot but otherwise it was the best Mac n Cheese I've ever had! Went with a few friends for lunch, it was nice and pretty quiet.
Good service good food. I've tried multiple things off the menu and you can't go wrong. The gyro was great! The flat breads and mac n' cheese are winners too.
Been a fan for years. Love their chicken tortilla soup. They get pretty busy, so if you order for takeout, be prepared to wait a long time.
Service was good, food was a little bland. I got the Chicken Ranch Flat Bread. Not as awesome as it sounded. It was missing something. My daughter got a burger. She liked it. I haven't been there for a while, probably will b awhile to go again.
You meet the nicest people here!
You can never go wrong with half price martinis for happy hour! Best damn Dirty Martini in the city. Every appetizer was perfect.
Always great food and cocktails
Wow, what a great establishment. The food was awesome and our server, Savannah couldn’t have been better. It was our first time at blackstone and she was excited to give great recommendations! If you go to Blackstone, Order the Tuna and ask for Savannah!!
Tuna was excellent, salmon good but not great; service was good but a little slow. Nice ambience, lively but not too loud.
Good brunch but get it into a more open area. To tight of a space for alot of people trying to get brunch foods.
Great beers and atmosphere. Very relaxed with lots of happy people. Will definitely return.
Great atmosphere, always had awesome service. Food is up scale American, with enough variety to please a diverse group. Consistently good for and experience here. They have an ok selection of craft beers, would like to see more options in this space though. Always get the saganaki to get things kicked off! The Buffalo tots are a must!
Stopped here on a 2 day road trip. High quality food about ten minutes off the interstate. Prices were great as well. We did not order the flaming mac and cheese, someone did and that was real cool to see them light it on fire at the table.
The last time I went there they had amazing food and service while it was packed, but this time they werent busy at all and couldn't manage to even get our drinks in under 15 minutes!
Great variety and good for those with some dietary restrictions. I got seared ahi and my wife got the Greek flat bread. Both were great! I'd even suggest getting the flat bread as an appetizer.
Excellent food and service!
Best restaurant on the east side, great food
Food is great and drinks well made
Love their burgers and fries, and drinks are great. Pricey, but nice for few times a year I visit the IU.
The skewers were amazing.
Food was good service was decent watch out for the check the prices are high for food served. Nice clean property location is off the path but food was good. Bar area was full
Great place to grab a drink. Modern and quiet. The bathrooms are also very clean!
VERY disappointing meal. Tasteless Caesar's salad and half a French dip sandwich that was about 2.5 inches long with 3 little scraps fatty, grissely grey-colored meat in it for $11:00. Menu has changed A LOT over time to basically an expensive burger joint, unless you want a $34:00 ribeye!!
Delicious food and great service! We will be back!!
Loved the Cuban my boyfriend got, great menu selection, great drinks.
Great food and great service!
Very delicious kale and strawberry salad!! Friendly and efficient wait staff!
Fantastic food, drinks and service. Worth the price and wait.
Great restaurant with awesome food. Love that they offer the Impossible Burger !!
Cozy little restaurant and bar with a variety of menu options and specials. The food was delicious, with very large portions. The French fries were probably my favorite thing! I gave this restaurant a 3 star rating because the service was a little slow and our food took quite a while to come out, and I am a pretty patient person, so it was just a little disappointing.
The food was just ok to me, but the others in my party all really enjoyed what they got. I had the cuban and it was too greasy for my taste. The hostesses and wait staff seemed a bit too layed back, we did a lot of waiting.
The food was amazing, however if you're wanting a quick bite for lunch you made need to go elsewhere. The wait time for the food was rather long.
Great food and a nice atmosphere, perfect for celebrations. They have a diverse menu, but not a ton of options for vegetarians. Friendly servers are a plus!
Fantastic food & service.
Tried their Sunday brunch buffet and everything was great, the only slight disappointment was the $1.75 charge for the coffee. Didn't expect to pay extra when we're getting "brunch".
Great good, friendly service. The menu is varied but not overly complicated or filled with strange things. The soups are excellent, as are the mixed drinks. Parking can be difficult depending on how busy they are. Sunday brunch is also quite good.
Great creme brulee!
Nice atmosphere. Good food. I ordered the McMurray burger which was tasty. They were willing to add their crispy onions onto my burger. Loved the texture and taste of the fries. Got to try a bite of the Mac and Cheese which was pretty good as well. Definitely a place to check out if your looking for something different then your usual.
Delicious. Dark roomy good atmosphere. Great menu for everyone. Great Salad, mac n cheese, veggie burgers, regular burgers, and everything! Great staff. My go to restaurant whenever I'm in Iowa City.
Been to this place several times.....!!!!! Awesome staff!!!! Awesome steak and God bless the garlic potatoes!!!!!
I was visiting family in the area. The food was good and the service was just right for our relaxed dinner. Family friendly as the 2 kids under 6 had a good time too.
Patrons for life!! Blackstone is our resturant of choice when coming to Iowa City to visit our college daughters because of the varied menu items and quality of the food served. But how they treated us recently is why we are now patrons for life! Two weeks ago we were meeting at Blackstone to celebrate one of our daughter's birthday. Our girls and their roommate were rear-ended right infront of the resturant. It was a fairly severe accident as they were completely stopped and were hit between 35-40mph, which created quite a mess and took quite awhile to sort out (totalled both cars!) The Blackstone hostess and manager could not have been nicer to us when I went in to alert them as to why we were late for our reservation! They said they would hold our table for 6, and it was a busy Friday night! An hour later we were still dealing with the accident aftermath, so I went back in to thank them for holding the table but we were opting for the ER to have the girls checked out instead. The manager gave me a $20 gift certificate for my daughter because her birthday had been ruined! Jump ahead about 3 hours later when we left the ER and were famished. We went back to Blackstone and were welcomed with open arms despite the fact it was now 10:30pm and they close at 11pm. We had a wonderful meal AND the waiter brought a special dessert out for my daughter's birthday!! Not once did they try to rush us out, even though it was almost a half hour past closing when we were finally ready to leave. Blackstone's compassionate treatment of us definately made a bad situation much more bearable ... And they salvaged my daughter's birthday! A VERY lengthy review but Blackstone's customer service deserves to be applauded!!
Great food great service
A little pricey, but the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely filling and their selection of whiskey is also great if you feel the need to purchase a drink at restaurant prices. Definitely will return.
Slow service and food is way overpriced
Always good food love the seared salmon.
Major staff training needed. Really gave the place a big black eye. Got order wrong. Food was marginal at best.
Great food, drinks and service!
Nice menu and excellent staff.
Good bar food. The help was very nice and polite.
I would have given it 5 stars but our server was not very pleasant. It was a Friday and our first time there so we needed some time to go through the menu. With each time she came by to check on us you can tell that she was getting increasingly annoyed that we werent ready yet. Then as we were wrapping up after we had already paid and she would walk by even more irritated we were still there. It was 10:08pm, not sure what time you close but it was that feeling that it was time to go. We ordered chicken with our mac and cheese and I would reccomend asking them to cut it in small pieces if you request it. It came out in a few huge pieces that sat on top of it which isnt a big deal. The interior looks very nice, I'm sure the visits are usually better there so will try again sometime.
Great service. Loved the martinis!
We went there and it was fancy. We Had 2 good meals. They have some foods that are rare.
Awesome place, great food and drinks. We go almost every Friday.
Always good service, great happy hour!!! Food is always good and a nice variety!
Wonderful place! to eat. I had a salad that was bigger than the diameter of a large dinner plate; with a 4 oz piece of the best salmon I've ever had in my whole life. Atmosphere was in a club room with a fireplace. It was great!
The Greek salad was delicious
Best dining experience I've had in a long time.
Great food and accommodating too large families.
Great food, cocktails, service and all around vibe! The Mac and cheese and chicken fingers are to die for. Liv was so attentive and funny she really made our experience special. A great place for a date, family night or a beer at the bar!
Okay, expensive for us. Good service.
Great food! Everyone is so nice. There brunches are amazing.
Blackstone is always a favorite for gathering with family and friends. The food is delicious and nutritious. Servers are friendly and attentive. With a full bar and expensive restaurant seating area, there's something for everyone. The location on Iowa City's east side, at Rochester and North Scott Blvd makes it easy to get to.
OMG THAT GYRO WAS RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS..THANKS BS
Amazing brunch and a diverse menu
This place was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend you try it!!!
Nice venue. Good wait staff. Love the place.
As always super great!
Always great food. Try the tuna entree, I have it 90% of the time
Great food and friendly service
I LOVE the mac and cheese here. If I could, I would eat this mac and cheese every day of the week. I think this place is great for small family get-togethers.
Best steak I've had in quite a while!
Great food and great service
Up beat
Delicious food, great service, and a fairly lengthy selection of martinis. Everything we tried was delicious! They offer a solid happy hour too. I think happy hour is 3-6 and includes half price martinis.
For a restaurant I have loved for years and suggested to many Iowa City newcomers, I was rather disappointed by their brunch. They had scrambled eggs very clearly from a bag (not that hard to make them not look that way, even from a bag), party potatoes (breakfast cubes with cheddar cheese), mac and cheese (which was really quite good), miaggi beans, fried chicken tenders (which at 11 am were already to hard to cut through with the knife they give you, so I picked the breading off and ate that), sad looking waffles, bacon, sausage patties, some gluten free breakfast pizza (it's gluten free, so weirdly crunchy. But the toppings and cheese and sauce were good) they had monkey bread (which was good, and always a welcome sight at brunch), pancakes that I didnt eat, some cut melon, and a wide variety of standard bakery goods. There is no omelette station nor eggs benedict nor biscuits and gravy. Mimosas are only a dollar and were rock solid. Our server Emily was quick and polite, as their servers almost always are. For 18 bucks, I would not go again. Step it up, Blackstone. You're better than this.
I love this place.
Sunday brunch buffet. The scrambled eggs were just like the powered eggs the Army makes minus any kind of seasoning. Party potatoes seemed like the potatoes were fried first and then mixed with a bland sauce. Didn't like the breakfast gravy, had almost a grainy texture. What was good was the creme brule! I should have just had about 10 of those. Our waitress was great too, but we won't be coming back for Sunday brunch.
Excellent food. A little pricey.
Good food, cocktail specials on Tuesday.
Great food, good variety of flavors. Thai cobb salad was delicious, and the Greek flat bread! Good service also.and they do a birthday treat
Expensive breakfast buffet. The eggs, bacon and sausage were average. The bread products (waffles, monkey bread, cinnamon rolls, etc) were tough and not very tasty. Our waitress flashed a big bright smile upon seating us, when dropping off the check and as we walked out. She never once asked, before leaving our table, "Is there anything else I can do for you?" She did the bare minimum and promptly walked away. We had to flag her down for a coffee refill for my husband and my first cup. When bringing my coffee, she did not inquire whether I wanted cream, sugar or even a spoon to stir it. Over priced food and less than average service.
Really liked the Mac & Cheese. Great place for a date night.
Food is great and the stuff are great too
Lam Gyro was delish!
The atmosphere here is great, with the fireplaces and decor it is very cozy. A good selection of burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, and unique dinners. I really like the Greek inspired selections. Reservations are available and recommended if you plan on going anytime around their very popular happy hour.
Very nice feel and a great atmosphere. This place has something for every occasion ranging from easy apps and beers with outdoor seating to a quiet and cozy lit back room perfect for nicer events with delicious and reasonably priced food. I've visited multiple times for Friday drinks during happy hour and also chose it for my graduation dinner. Highly recommend for all occasions and all ages!
Great food for everyone in our party... ages 8 to 80... literally!
The food is amazing, well worth the price, had appetizers, soup large meals and dessert and took home enough for another meal. Very pleased with the staff and the atmosphere was very calming, romantic and classy. The strawberry cocktail was delicious!
On Sunday 9/16/18..stopped in for dinner after a long day of driving. The hostess was like "well you can sit here or you can sit here or back bar or outside." Really!??. Now we order drinks and they were so weak we had to get another shot just for flavor. Now for the food. My sister ordered a PLAIN chicken sandwich and fries..it camewith some kind of green sauce on it and she asked what's in it for her as a lot of food allergies. It was sent back and refused anything else. My lady friend ordered onion soup and half strawberry kale salad...salad was just kale and 3 pieces of strawberry nuts. The onion soup was no where near french onion soup and it was white, not carmelized onions. Now then I asked for chicken tortilla soup and what I got was not that...it was made with so called shredded chicken that looked and tasted like beef. I'm very disappointed and will express it to whom ever I can .
Good food and service. Can be noisy if you are seated in "the back", hence the 4 stars.
First time there and ate brunch. Food is excellent and staff is very courteous. I look forward to going back.
The food is delicious and staff is friendly. It’s reasonably priced for more of a “fine dining” by Iowa City standards.
Great daily happy hour from 3 to 6 pm, including martinis served with iced shaker. All liked food, I had the ham melt which was a generous portion. However, a table mate was unhappy with amount of meat with the French Dip. Service was prompt and courteous on a busy Saturday night.
Friendly, fast service, delicious food and cocktails, great range of selections for different dietary needs/desires. Great for a casual dinner with friends or family, or a date. Will definitely be coming back.
Great place to get a bite and the drinks were great according to my guy!
Decent happy hour.
Good food....Horrible service
Obsessed with the strawberry kale salad and pear mojito. Can't go wrong with anything else either.
Easyvto find restaurant near the campus. Nice, clean building. The staff was friendly, the service was great and the food was really good.
Great food and excellwnt service.
Always good. Neighborhood joint with something for everyone, for any meal or anything in between. Excellent service and drink selection. Celiac safe, gluten free, and allergy friendly!
Best restaurant on the Eastside. Always good here selections, always good food, always good staff. Join the email list for Great Deals and freebies.
Food is good, not great. Service is unreliable, and prices are on the high side.
Service good, food above average, price for what you get, to expensive!
Nice place. Food was good. Waitstaff was very on top of everything. Bathrooms were very clean. Our drinks stayed fresh.
Great food and atmosphere! Enjoyed the half price martinis during Happy Hour also!
Disappointed in the service. I've been here quite a few times because of their extensive whiskey selection, which is second to none in the Iowa City area. But this time was a rough go around. I specifically visited after work for their happy hour. But when I tried to order, I was told that they are no longer doing their happy hour flight, even though it is on their menu. So I then asked if I could do their Blackstone Flight, also on their menu. I was then told they no longer do any flights in general. So I decided to just ordered a regular 1 oz whiskey pour. He asked me for my credit card to start a new tab, which I then provided. After I finished my drink, I saw a bottle on the shelf that wasn't on the menu. I asked how much a pour was and was told $16. I agreed and he proceeded to pour me a 1 oz. When I finished that pour, I decided to have one more drink. I asked a waitress once she had a moment, if she could get me a drink. She went to the shelf and was unsure which one I had asked for, so she asked a coworker for help. Her coworker took the bottle I requested off the shelf and put it on the counter. The waitress that I initially spoke to let me know that her coworker would assist me. The coworker walked away and seemed to forget about me. I waited patiently, but never saw her again for nearly 15 minutes. So I made eye contact with another bartender, and let him know that I might have been forgotten. He helped me out and poured me my drink. Once I I was finished with my drink I asked to close out my tab. I was handed my receipt and noticed my 2nd drink which I was told was $16 was actually rung up at $24. I questioned the price of the drink and told them if it should have been $24, I'd pay it. They looked at the bottle and noticed the price should have been $16. He grabbed a manager and corrected the price difference. I noticed there was not a place to put my tip or signature on the receipt. I waited to ask why there wasn't a place to leave a tip, but I seemed to be forgotten again. So I got tired of waiting and left. HOWEVER, the waitress that was supposed to pour my 3rd drink that forgot about me yelled at me that I didn't settle my tab, insinuating I was skipping out on the tab. I said that I requested to close out my tab. "Oh, they already swiped your card?" I told her yes, and I followed her back in the restaurant. She went to the register and printed another receipt, this one with a line for a tip and signature. She didn't make any eye contact, just put the receipt on the counter and walked away. I would have expected a simple apology for the misunderstanding. But I got the feeling she still seemed to feel I was trying to skip on the bill, which greatly left a sour taste. It capped off a less than stellar experience. Also a thing to note, they weren't overly busy yet, so there really isn't an excuse to forget a customer multiple times. I'm up in the air to try this place again, or to just find another go to whiskey restaurant.
Had great food and a lot of choices on the menu to choose from. They also offer the Impossible Burger which I love.
Best meal I have had in ages.
