I want to shout out thanks and kuddos to Baratta's. We ordered lasagne for 8 to 10 serve at our home. We asked for hamburger instead of sausage, and that it be prepped bit not baked. I picked it up and the order was just right with bread and salad too. Is that Baratta's house dressing it came with? It was super tasty. Later we cooked the lasagne and it was just wonderful. Thanks to Baratta's for super service, and a delicious outcome!!!!

We had heard good things about Baratta's from a friend so my coaching staff decided to take our girls track team there to eat after running at the girls state track meet. We had called ahead and made reservations. We were seated promptly and our service could not have been better. Our waitress helped us pick out meals from the menu that our athletes would enjoy. She was spot on. The food was delicious. The portions were very generous and the price was reasonable for what we received. It is located away from all the hustle and bustle which was just the setting we needed. I would highly recommend.

I really wanted to like this restaurant. I've eaten here a few times and while there is a large variety on the menu, however in my opinion the food its self is underwhelming for the price. From my observations the wait staff tent to treat the regulars as a priority and the parking lot is not too convenient during busy times.

Stopped for a late dinner (8:15), when they close at 9:00. From the start everything, the service the food quality was excellent. First time here and if it's this good very late, we'll definitely be back. Excellent pasta and steak !!

I just had the pleasure of working with Michelle for a catered work event. Professionalism was fantastic, she was quick to answer my questions and accommodate special needs for our gluten and peanut allergy guests. Food was fabulous and I received only positive feedback from the guests. This was my first event I have every collaborated with Baratta's. The experience was top notch and they will be who I call for future events.

Not your typical Italian restaurant. It's in a residential area with seating for many but that is one of the problems. It is very loud in there when a group of people who are having a good time. Our party had a very hard time hearing each other when other parties are very loud. The rooms are not a typical restaurant decor and it really promotes noise so it's hard for people to have a normal conversation. It was a very crowded Friday night so that may be the exception as to the level of noise in the restaurant. The staff is wonderful and the service was also great. Out of the four dishes we purchased they were all pretty much good Italian recipes. We brought our own wine and the staff really appreciated the wine that we brought to compliment the dinner. We will definitely return maybe just not on a peak night.

Baratta’s is the exclusive caterer for our venue. When we had our tasting with them, the food was amazing and they let us try everything. We had originally planned to cut costs and go with grocery store cakes, however the Baratta's cake was so good we made room for it in the budget. We ordered a small round cutting cake (that we got to take home) and 3 sheet cakes - two chocolate and one vanilla. Baratta’s offers a couple of different options for catering; plated, buffet, and stations. We went with 3 catering stations - an appetizer station, a pasta station, and a roast beef carving station which we kept open for 2 hours. We did run out of the roast beef during the time, but we had a lot of pasta and most of our guests returned for second and third helpings of the food. Everything was cut and set up for our guests, and we received so many compliments on the cake and food. For the quality that we received, I can’t believe how little we spent.

A hidden gem south of downtown Des Moines! Although I love the relaxed "family" ambiance the selection options on the menu are outstanding. It's always a struggle to make a decision...seafood, classic Italian, ribs and an amazing dessert selection. One other reason to rave...real, trained, caring, and entertaining staff!

We came here with a family of 8. Understandably waited because we didn't make reservations. Three of us got the chicken parmesan as it was a house favorite. All three of the chicken breasts were overcooked to the point it was hard to cut. Two of us got steak that was horrible. Overcooked and the steak was probabaly a 1/4 in thick. I was highly disappointed. Especially because so much of our food was terrible. The waitress didn't come back to even check on our dinners. We were sitted in the basement and seen several bugs. Unfortunately we won't be coming back.

Very disappointed with Baratta's Restaurant. Service was extremely slow, food quality was sub-par, very bland tasting and had chicken that had no flavor. The worst was the $6 cannoli. The not disclosed, off tasting, almond flavor was awful. The waitress acknowledged the fact I didn’t like them but made no remedy to fix. I could have had better pasta at Fazolis for more than half the cost! I could have saved $50 bucks!

Stopped in for a late dinner with good friends. I ordered the White pizza (bleu, ricotta, buffalo mozzarella, parmesan, and regular mozzarella cheese) and it was phenomenal! The rest of our group was equally pleased with their meal. Good price, great meal. Only con was that the past of the restaurant we ate in had a rather peculiar and overwhelming odor... maybe seafood smell or something.

This is Des Moines best Southside true Italian family run restaurant. Worth the drive. Pizza, pastas, prime rib and leave room for dessert. Great cakes here, not your average dessert tray. Staff is outstanding and attention to details shows.

This is a great small intimate venue for dinner. Their menu is inclusive of simple inexpensive items and extravagant expensive items. Everything is homemade and received from local distributers. I have been eating at this restaurant for over 15 years and I have never had a bad or sub par meal. The staff has always been welcoming and attentive. We dine here on our anniversary every year, and we had our wedding reception here as well. We were treated so well on our wedding day and I was so grateful for all the staff that helped us. They can get busy so there is a wait at times, however I've never waited more than 30 minutes for a table. Their red sauce is a little on the peppery side which gives it a slight kick, but it is so very good and I can't handle spicy (hot) food. Give this place a try and you'll be happy you did!

The spin art dip is my favorite from anywhere. I love the bread and pitas chips that come with it, and the bread for the table was soft and warm. I ordered the southwest pasta with seafood. There were 2 shrimp on my pasta and it looked like maybe a piece of some other kind of seafood but I'm not sure. It didn't have much seasoning and there was no fresh parmesan on it. Hubby had chicken parmesan. He said it was bland and he disliked the breading. Mom had seafood pasta and she said hers was good. I'll go back at least for the spinach dip but not sure what else I would want.

Lora was way more helpful than our venue in planning for the wedding. She went above and beyond what I expected from our caterer. The food was great, we received many compliments from our guests. Even though I technically didn't have a choice for our caterer because the Blank Park Zoo requires you to have Baratta's, I am very pleased with all of my interactions with them and with the food!

We had Barrata’s cater our wedding and for someone who does event coordinating for a living, I was impressed by the level of customer service they provided. The coordinator walked us through ever step and gave tailored advice. They were punctual with any requests we gave them. When the big day finally arrived, their staff made not only us feel special, but every guess that attended the wedding. I would highly recommend them for any event!

Reasonably priced. Best antipasti ever! Two feet of olives, cheese, peppers, artichoke hearts, asparagus, and much more. Not sure why they are so generous. Would easily feed three. Fried cheese and marinara was delicious. Pepper steak was lacking. It had great flavor, but the steak cubes were chewy. The Caesar salad was soggy, but had fluffy homemade croutons. Order undressed. The fried chicken was perfect. The house Chianti was very nice. Great, attentive, staff took good care of us.

I had a wonderful meal and drinks to go with it. However, the steak for my friend was served almost cold and it was reheated for him, but still not very good. Real unsatisfied with the sirloin, cooked too long and served cool. I was trying to relive my experiences when I lived in Des Moines many years ago, and include a dear friend of what I remembered.

Outstanding local restaurant off the beaten path it has wonderful lunches. It's a very old school Italian restaurant with lots of great sandwiches for lunch I've had Italian beef, they have chicken parmesan they have regular burgers, they have an Italian sub sometimes. It also has some wonderful things for dinner it's one of the few places where you can get veal marsala. of course they have the usual kinds of pastas and their salads are not iceberg lettuce but very good spring lettuce. They also have a full bar and the times that I've been there I've had bloody Mary's which I've enjoyed quite a bit.

This was a pleasant surprise, the parking lot was packed and we couldn't believe all the cars were there for the restaurant. Very nondescript building. I actually thought there must be a used car lot close by. They were absolutely for the restaurant! This is the best Italian restaurant in Des Moines! Very friendly staff and excellent service. Fantastic food! Very reasonably priced. We came for lunch....I will be back for dinner! Excellent! I highly recommend this place

We were from Kansas City up here for a Softball World Series, decided to go out to eat for the win, found it by ratings alone! We pulled in the parking lot at 7:30 on Friday night, with 25 of our closest team family, they immediately worked on accommodations, sat us within 15-20 mins, and the food was off the charts delicious, huge portions, great price, our server Debbie was on it! 8 littles, 6 kids and the rest adults! This is one of the best Italian places I’ve been too, I had the Chicken cacciatore, my husband had the Combo Amaggio! So good we traded mid way through! The Peach Belini’s are to die for!

Not the best, not the worst. I ordered the jumbo shrimp scampi and it comes with fettuccine Alfredo and soup or salad. I chose salad. The waitress came out and said it also comes with a choice of potato. I was surprised but I asked for baked. I had my salad which was good, but when the food came out I had 6 jumbo shrimp and a baked potato. I questioned about the fettuccine with the waitress so she went and asked. When she returned she said “that’s your potato side.” Okay... how does that make sense? I Googled the menu and sure enough, she was wrong. She gave me the jumbo shrimp not the jumbo shrimp scampi... When we got the bill, it even said I ordered the jumbo shrimp scampi. Needless to say, we won’t be back. The waitress was nice but should have maybe known the menu a little more? Oh well.

Well it's not the easiest place to find being it's your first time but you wont forget the way back once you taste the food! I've yet to have a dish I didn't enjoy,family atmosphere with exceptional service. My personal favorite is the Chicken amaggio pasta dish but there are so many delicious options to choose from you're sure to find something you'll enjoy.
