REVIEWS OF Shapiro's Delicatessen IN Indiana

Mary Tetreau

Best New York Reuben I've ever had! Fast, friendly service. Pricey, but absolutely worth every penny!

Charles Weber

Great place to experience the culture and food of the Indianapolis area. This is an experience of a life time, and wheel chair excessively.

Tracey Jones

OMG THE BEST REUBEN I'VE ATE IN YEARS FRIENDLY SERVICE GREAT LOCATION I WILL BE BACK

Alan Kalver

Our go to Kosher deli outside of Chicago or Detroit. Great service amazing food. What's not to like!

Melanie Castle

Cafeteria style deli and bakery. All the meat is sliced fresh to order, and portions are generous! Staff was super friendly, and I didn't feel rushed while figuring out which things to try. We had a reuben and the roast beef Manhattan. Both were tasty and the perfect "corner deli" style comfort food.

Colleen Ghelfi

I don't get the hype. This is an overpriced, run down restaurant with mediocre cafeteria-style food.

Jerry Decius

Great place before or after Colts game, nice place to park too

Lashelle Crain

Great Reuben according to my husband. Other food was ok but nothing to write home about. Pricey.

Kathy Ruggles

Love the cold slaw potato salad and cheese cake Totally the best

James Cherco

Great corned beef. Homemade rye bread I just wish it weren't so soft. Just my preference though. All the buffet food is homemade and veery good. Bring lots of money.

JH Russell

Treated my in-laws and they were incredibly impressed. Pastrami on marble rye for Pop, Mom had the corned beef on rye, my daughter wolfed down a Reuben. Mom also swore the potato pancakes were addictive, she had 3 of them. Really enjoyed the food.

Gia Robinson

I had the best service from the employee's especially there is a girl in there light skinned and she had two long braids in I wish I remembered her name it started with a C but anywho that's not why they are getting one star the cop on duty was treating me like I was less than besides the color difference i dont see what other reason he had to be so rude he was watching me and made it real clear he was watching me it made feel unsafe and unwanted and I dont know about you but my money is green just like everyone else!!!!!

Charles May

Without a doubt the best delicatessen in the Mid West hemisphere

Donna Wiseman

If you want really good deli food, this is the place! Top notch corn beef sandwiches (a little expensive, but worth it). Everything is made from scratch and if you stop at the bakery on your way out, be prepared to spend more than you planned. Their bakery goods are excellent! Highy recommend.

Darryl Reid

This was my first time visiting this location and I was not disappointed. Look forward to going back soon

Joe Busby

This place was awesome. If visiting Indianapolis I would highly recommend going to this place. Great food, i.e. the Reuben was amazing, and a fun atmosphere. The dessert options were plentiful and amazing as well. You have to stop here!!!

James Alexander-Whaley

Great place to eat. I had the beef stew, deviled eggs and cheese cake and it was all great. My partner had the beef stew too and he loved it. He says the place is the same from when he would come here as a kid.

Art Olgin

Fast food deli. Bread rye...low quality.

Luke Smith

Best stuff pepper I have ever had

Gary Lynch

Good food, and great atmosphere. Love that at breakfast time, you can either sit in quite or gather as a group for meetings. - Peace

Ariyana Dragonwagon

Oh my goodness, yummy food! Big sandwiches, amazing food. The best tomato ever!

lisa murr

Great sandwiches, desserts, and great service!

Darsale Harrison

As a employee this was the worse place to work with bad communication skills, no accountability from "team players" nor the manager for bad training. Personality I feel like any place with this problem doesn't need to be eaten at. There are hard workers here & there are some who think they run the place because they've been there longer.

Sue Leuschke

Veal liver and onions, perfectly done. Sweet Mac and cheese, not my style

Ben Breman

Carryout was fast and efficient. Plenty of corned beef ready. The half-hour pickles are pretty great!

Brent R.

Very good food. Just can't afford to eat here very often.

Paula Brooks

They serve all the beloved Jewish deli favorites from corn beef, reubens, pastrami, brisket, Lox and bagels, corn beef hash, potato pancakes/Latke, matzo ball soup, split pea, cabbage borscht soups and baklava plus so, so much more. An amazing selection of phenomenal food. The cornbeef sandwiches are delicious. Matzo Ball soup and potatoes cakes are one of my fave and sugar cream pie,

Dawn Mcclellan

Great stopping point for a deli sandwich while traveling across Indiana.

Maria Lee

Best Reuben ever! Corned beef was so flavorful and moist, kraut had some zip! Rye bread was crusty and chewy! Carrot cake was delectable...our group had 10 sandwiches...all tasty and generous portions...we had 5 different desserts...need to go back and try all of them!

Craig Betts

My first time at Shapiro's. I never k ew it was cafeteria style dining. I thought it was just a deli casual place. The food was delicious. I had the veggie plate and chocolate cake. My only complaint would be the prices too high. $35 for two people at a walk up and order place is a bit high for my thoughts.

george dawson

Always top shelf I've been going there since 1970 I went to High school at Wood High school when it was in the old building the quality of food is still the same and the quality of service is just as excellent as always! Moe D'

Rick A

I had a Rubin and it was awesome, but; the deserts were out of this world. I had a slice of German Chocolate cake that was just decadent! Love this place!

Alex Green

Great food, great atmosphere, great everything

Luke Stark

Always delicious! The bread is amazing and utterly fresh.

A Cox

Great food, lots of meat on the sandwiches! You do need to be mindful of the prices and the prices aren't super easy to find. High quality food and staff are friendly.

Jeannie Filicsky

Food was great, all homemade! Service was great also! Definitely planning another trip!

Michael J Smith

Everything was so good I forgot to take photos! Corned beef on rye, their incredible macaroni and cheese, a deviled egg and of course a Dr. Brown's black cherry cola.

Joseph Hodge

Always good for the best corned beef in Indiana. Also love their soups, potato cakes, breads and desserts.

seth cavins

Best Corned Beef and Mac & Cheese you will find in this world! Desserts are insanely delicious along with everything else they make. A must stop anytime you're in Indy!

Tom Tackett

Authentic Jewish delicatessen that I have visited 4 over 55 years at this point. Hot plate specials, delicious Kosher foods of all types. Personal favorite is the corned beef on rye with their remarkable potato salad! This is an eating experience

T Lea G

Very expensive for cafeteria food. Some bakery items were worth the calories ...Definitely suggest the bagels and cookies!!

Shawn Burt

A great low key tradition. Not cheap but plenty of value. I think the peppered beef gets overlooked, and the potato pancakes could be a small meal in and of themselves. Good cafeteria style service. Always clean. The bakery should br exams need prior to filling up though you may need to take the treats home for later.

Braeden Harris

The prices are a bit elevated and the customer service isn't always the best. But the food is amazing. The bakery is ridiculous. The Reuben is phenomenal. And the cakes! A great place to stop when you're in south Indy.

Lonnie Perry

Our visit today was very nice. We were quickly served by friendly staff as we went through the cafeteria style line. There is a wide selection of prepared items to choose from along with many other items prepared upon order. One person in our group ordered the Ruben sandwich. It was quickly delivered to our table and I was told, "That is one of the best Rubens I have had." The sandwich was big. The portion sizes are very generous. There is a huge selection of dessert items (which is my favorite).

Dawn Robinson

Love this restaurant. Good size portions. Usually take home leftovers, as well as, the black and white cookies. YUM!

Michael Berkshire

Quality and selection of food is great

Peter Wung

This is old school deli. Great meats. Spectacular matzo ball soup, and latkes!

Jeff Miller

The place wasn't bad. Prices are higher than what I would like. 2 sandwiches, 3 sides and 2 drinks for 51 dollars, ouch. The food was good not great. The Mac and cheese that was unburnt was good.

N. M. Hayes

Great sandwiches h deserts.

Jon Kay

An Indiana Tradition. Love the cornbeef hash with eggs (sunny-side-up) and rye toast.

George Verrusio

Always a pleasure. It's gotten a little pricey through the years and the quality has remained reasonably consistent. Great bakery as well.

Noah Oken-Berg

One of a kind joint. Must eat spot for local regulars and out-of-town visitors alike. Plenty on the menu to take me back to my childhood!

Nicole S.

Went for lunch. Quick service and excellent food. Everything was great!

Anthony B

This is hands down the best deli I have ever been to! Beats all the different ones that I have tried in NY. I tried Shapiro’s a few days ago for the first time and look forward to coming here again.

Tim Krimmel

Awesome food! Amazing dessert spread, my only regret was that I couldn't eat more. The portions are huge. The Reuben sandwich was excellent. Staff was friendly and it didn't take long to get the food.

Michael Fondren

Clam chowder soup, mm. Good

Victoria Dorsey

That was honestly the most disappointing $47 that I have spent anywhere. The staff was not overly thrilled to be there, but it was at the end of race day weekend so I’ll give them that, and while the portions were large, they weren’t particularly well seasoned. At least I tried it, but it isn’t really a place that I would visit again.

JD Silvey

Had the half pastrami on rye. Slight smoke. Great taste. Bread was awesome.

Rhonda Perry

Got a corned beef dinner with mac&cheese and cabbage to go. The cabbage was bland. The mac&cheese was partially hard and burnt. The corned beef was absolutely amazing. The food was way too expensive for the whole meal to not be excellent. Although I was disappointed, I will definitely go back for the corned beef and possibly try out other sides.Staff was awesome!

Michael Brownfield

The food was cold and it should have been hot and they acted like it was my fault. They're expensive and the food is mediocre at best.

Carol M

Delicious corn beef entree's very good. Everything is delicious s little pricey but worth it!!

Everett Gossard

Ordered an egg sandwich with coffee: pastrami, egg, and swiss on an onion bagel. The only breakfast sandwich I like as well is the same type of bagel with lox, cream cheese, red onion, and capers. Shapiro’s is the ne plus ultra of a kosher-style deli. A thousand words could be written to laud their complement of offering, but I will say just a few. The coffee was decent and the sandwich was pure delight. I also picked up a lemon bar and an apricot rugelach (pronounced by the locals as a “roo’ guh luh”). The pastries were on point.

Gball 763

Great deli! Nice cafeteria style service line, the food cooked fresh and it was good! The cooks are very busy, but also friendly when delivering food to the table. I will definitely return when I'm in the area!

Gonzalo Tucker

So much great food and baked goods to choose from. Sandwich was excellent! Also love their soups, potato cakes, breads and desserts. A must stop anytime you're in Indy!

Blake Eric

This place fits the bill for a Jewish deli. I have been going to places in Chicago and NY all my life. Shapiro’s stacks up against the best. The pricing is definitely steep for IN as I think we had a $43 bill for two. However, I didn’t mind it. Personally, I would recommend the brisket on onion roll.

Lee Barroll

Wow, that is all you can soy about Shapiro's Delicatessen. I foist went to Shapiro's in the Early 90's when I moved to Indianapolis from Colorado Springs. I bet I have eaten t 100 times if not more. Always the same. Great Food at a Fair Price. I recently stooped in and had a Pastrami Sandwich, a potato pancake and a piece of German Chocolate cake. The best. i will go back.

TheGreatMenorah

My first time having eaten there. I can say that I was not blown away, but what I found was totally satisfactory. I came in at about 9AM and the place was pretty empty. It was mostly a gray haired crowd, which suits me fine. I ordered a coffee and corned beef hash with two eggs. Altogether $8.88 which is a pretty reasonable price considering I got a bagel with the meal. The food was great, exactly what I expected out of eggs and hash. The bagel was a real treat though, marbled rye and boy was it good. It was toasted juuuust right. The coffee was good and strong too, loved it. I sat in a cozy little corner seat like Dad used to and read the news and caught up on emails before going to class. The atmosphere is what I loved the most. It had a no frills sort of feel to it. I didn't feel rushed to complete my meal either. The staff were courteous and did just about everything you could expect of them. Altogether it was nice, I stopped by the bakery to grab some rugelach and hit the road. Can't wait to try them!

Don Lee

Fantastic, I've been going for years! They never have been disappointing in any regard. I remember when they had a location on northwestern side of town. I made that place a favorite of mine no less than once a week. I'm pleased to say that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Whether to go or you stay awhile at either location, it's an foodie experience worth your money

Valerie Green

Stopped in here because my son insisted we had to on our way back from Cedar Point to St Louis. First, this place was huge for a delicatessen. Most delis I've frequented were no more than one third the size. Great selection and great service. You grab your tray and move along picking up desserts and sides on your way to the sandwich makers. When my son realized he'd passed up the sides his kids would need he started to go back down the line to get them. "No, no, I'll grab them for you" said the sandwich guy there has to be a more appropriate name). All sandwiches were made in front of us. Corned beef, Reuben, Brisket. When we ordered a chicken leg for one on the kids, the sandwich guy looked at him and made sure we knew it was from a baked chicken rather than something the kids might be used to from some fast food place. He also made sure we know how big those Kosher dogs were going to be before we got them for the other kids. I appreciated those little acts of service. If it wasn't so far away I'd make it a regular stop. As it is, we know we have a great spot to eat when traveling through Indianapolis.

Tommy McDowell

Great bagels. Tasted fresh all week long.

Chris

I had the meatloaf and noodles and potato salad my gf had the same. Everything was good except the noodles, we both felt we paid twice what we should've for the meal. But we would go back but just for dessert..amazingly good!

Android Enthusiast

Would be nice if they offered smaller portions for more budget friendly meals. Would like to go a few more times a year

Kristi Jayne

Had the pleasure of eating there twice so far and everything I've tried has been delicious.....pastrami on rye, smoked tongue sandwich, peppered beef, latkes, matzo ball soup. Cant wait to stop back in on our next trip through!

William Bryan

You can't beat there Rueben! The Mottsa Ball soup is wonderful! The service is always 5 star and the customers are friendly too.

Melanie J

Always great food and great service. I usually get the roast beef on rye. I always have left over because the portion size is HUGE. This place is definitely an old school deli and I love it.

Thomas Ziffrin

Always a great meal. I've been going there for over 60 years and have seen a lot of changes but the quality has always been the best.

Kevin McClure

Great old style deli. Worth the wait in line. It moves pretty quickly. Food was amazing.

Damon Oldfield

I ordered the ruben sandwich and it probably had at least 3/4 of a pound of meat. Sandwich was excellent! I ordered the sandwich, a cup of mac and cheese, two soft drinks and a peice of cheesecake. It came to $35.00...ouch!!!

Ryan Sheets

This deli Is amazing! The corned beef sandwiches or Reubens are the best in the state. Don't ask for mayo, the sandwich doesn't need it, plus they don't play that. Sides can't go wrong with mac n cheese, potato cakes, green beans.....i swear though, sandwich, one side and you will be full. BUT......if you need dessert, the selection will tempt you and is a tough battle to win. The peanut butter pie will put your experience over the edge.

Garry Bird

Go there every time I pass through Indy. Loved the Rueben. Noticed last time I was there that there was more sauerkraut than corned beef. Figured it was a fluke. Today's Rueben was a sauerkraut sandwich that accidentally had some corned beef on it. Charge me more and keep your quality.

Debra Pierce

Love it. BEST corned beef sandwiches!

Jennifer Myers

Fantastic food. Breakfast until noon. Lunch items available during breakfast hours. To go deli items also available. Corned beef hash is really good. Bread is very fresh. Good service. Go!!

Heavenly Comments

Really good sandwiches and sweets. I would only say to stay away from the sides because the Mac & cheese was very burnt. I honestly thought it was olives at first, but then realized it was the noodles. Otherwise everything else was good and it reminds me of Cleveland corn beef sandwiches which are also great!

Michael Johnson

What a cool experience! So much great food and baked goods to choose from. Very friendly staff and quick service. This will definitely be a regular stop for me whenever I'm in Indy.

Annis Raine

EXCELLENT PLACE TO EAT...

jay lerman

My favorite sandwich in the world: pastrami, light rye, dark mustard both sides and tomato!. My 'usual' pastrami sandwich, cup of borscht, cup of tapioca and chilled refreshing Dr.Brown's Cel-Ray to drink! We sat at the same table as 'the Trumpster'!

Morgan Carrillo

Well-known historic, classic, kosher delicatessen that has cafeteria style line for dining in or carry out line for to go. This place has been around for over a hundred years for a reason. They serve good quality, homemade food in large portions. There is probably something here for everyone to enjoy, however, people love their pastrami, corned beef, and Reubens. You have to pay attention to prices because you can easily spend $25 a person, although there are some reasonable menu items if you don't want to spend that much. It's still a bit pricey but you will have leftovers too, so if you can squeeze two meals into it the price is reasonable. They do have a kids menu and it's very reasonable. I would definitely recommend trying this place at least once, because the food and desserts are very good. Here are some tips if you go: -If you go on a weekend or during peak meal hours, this place will be busy. Check out the menu online and have an idea of what you want before you show up (and approximately what you expect to pay). Otherwise, you will wind up with sticker shock at the register or buyer's regret because you chose under pressure and really wish you would have gotten "x" instead. -Even if not busy, this place can be overwhelming with the sheer number of options and when going through the line you can't see them all or read the entire menu with prices. If you don't come knowing what you are going to get, walk on the outside of the line and decide before hand. This will be near impossible during busy times, so use online menu if needed. -You want to know what you are ordering beforehand for 2 reasons (1) to get the most value for your money and (2) to not be over charged at the end when you pay. If you go and walk through line, picking randomly as you go, you WILL pay more. (See picture of our receipt...I was charged for a salad but it was a more expensive one than I had (California v. Caesar $.55) and 3 things of Mac and cheese when we had two and a potato salad and the dinner we bought included two sides so that was another $.50 extra). In all, we were just charged a little over a dollar extra but it can add up. We didn't go back and correct it, we will just be more aware the next time. -As for value for your money, knowing how sides and meals work can save you a lot. A meal/dinner comes with 2 sides. Adding a side to a kid's meal is $1.00. For example, pay $3.25 for a side of fruit by itself or $1.00 with a kid's meal. The meal/dinner is usually the best value because of the two sides. -The bakery can be a great option for a cheaper sweet treat. Grab a cookie for about a $1.50 instead. Eat it there or take it to go. -If you don't have time to stop or need a quick meal option that isn't fast food, order online for pickup.

Tom Morris

Best matzo ball soup in Indy. Love the old school cafeteria feel and volumes of dessert.

brent spoonemore

My experience today wasn't pleasant. Waited 22 minutes on my sandwich to be brought to me (NY style Reuben) and my dining companion was already completely done with her meal. I would expect more expedient service when spending $50 at a deli for 2 people. But that's the last money I ever spend there. It gets great reviews, I just wish my experience was better

Bob Lavelle

A deli to die for. Bring your appetite for the best deli west of NYC. Maybe better than half of NYC

Joseph Kavanaugh

Lovely, classic Jewish deli. Fantastic corned beef on rye. The rye bread is fresh baked and very good. Great selection of options but not overwhelming. Busy on the Sunday morning I went. Don't miss the desserts: the black and white cookies are spot on.

Max Begovich

Best food and desserts in Indy. Some of my favorite memories include coming here with my dad and eating their awesome food. I also really enjoy looking at their wall of desserts. I'm usually too full to actually want anything but they really are something to behold

Penny Decker

Too expensive and very bland. Spent the same amount at Arbys for my family of four that I spent for only my one lunch. I won't go back.

Lisa Massey

Always high quality with big portions. Staff is always on point. Plenty of options with sandwiches, soups, sides, entrees, desserts, & to go options. One of the few places around that makes everything from scratch which males the prices on the high side, but reasonable due to the same reason.

Jeffrey Goodrich

The reuben was delicious. I will definitely come back here again. Order online ahead of time and pick it up at the carry out counter. The normal line was really long, but I was able to pick up my food quickly from the online order.

doug goldberg

Unassuming Indy deli delivers the goods old-school style. Turkey Reuben on house made rye was tremendous in size and flavor!

A Martin

Kosher style Deli. Highest quality foods, bagels desserts.

Matt Erickson

Excellent downtown Indy, cafeteria style Deli offering the best corned beef you'll find in town. Everything ive tried on the menu has been great. The mile high sandwiches and kosher pickles are what you would hope to find in a New York deli, except this one is in Indianapolis! I haven't found a better chocolate eclair in town either. If you're from out of town and have never been, this is definitely worth a visit as this is a local gem. If you live here and have never been?

Cliff Rawley

Fantastic food with very healthy portions.

Barbara G

Great food, but exhorbitant prices.

michelle barnette

So at 11:45 am I am in line. I ask for an egg bacon & cheese sandwich. I am told they are not serving breakfast anymore! They said we stop between 11 & 12! Again it's 11:45! Well we stopped early today! The menu board DOES NOT HAVE A TIME LISTED FOR BREAKFAST! NO HOURS LISTED! They make sandwiches all day! How hard is it to crack an egg to make a customer happy, when they don't even list a time they stop serving breakfast or they don't even know themselves, it's between 11-12!!! How do they stay in business all these years? Customer service is not the best when you won't even crack 1 egg to make a customer happy. When you don't put breakfast hours on your breakfast menu that usually means it is served anytime! Look the desserts taste good usually, but the other food nothing special. With all the amazing restaurant choices in Indy I don't advise this one!

Rick Davenport

Indianapolis institution for NY style deli food. Best Corned Beef and Pastrami in 100 miles. Dont forget desert. They are all amazing. Cafeteria style dine in or a separate line for carry out

Tracy Axson

Don't get to go there much, but when I do it's always wonderful. I had the Alaska Pollack sandwich. Biggest fish sandwich I have ever had and delicious

Rudolph Finnell

Great food Good corn beef.

Charles Letbetter

Shapiro's is an Indianapolis legend! The Reuben. The corned beef. The sugar pie. There is nothing else in this remotely like it. All the bread is made fresh on site. Same for the desserts. Hang out long enough and you're certain to see someone locally famous, especially during May. Yes, the prices are on the higher side. Expect to drop around $50 for two people. But for a once-in-a-lifetime it's well worth the price!

Shawn Freeman

Friendly staff and great food. Best corn beef in town! The Reubens are amazing!

Daniel Worden

I just been there cause my causin passed he was saying how great they were. I didn't have the same experience he did .it was just a fat sandwich .if you like fat that's the place they'll sale it.

Wendy Clark

Food was Good a little pricey

Terry Stewart

The NY Reuben sandwich was incredible!! The corned beef is piled a Mike high! I really liked the sauerkraut. It has just the right tang to it and a nice snap when bitten. Soggy sauerkraut can ruin a sandwich. This was the perfect sauerkraut! I can't wait to sink my teeth into a pastrami sandwich next.

emi earhart

Love this place! Love the atmoshere, the food is amazing, just loved it. Not too terribly expensive if you can keep yourself from trying to order everything. Oh and a nice selection of dessert items that we're waaayyy too delicios. Devils food cake with a cheesecake layer in the middle. So rich but worth every calorie and the stuffed belly waddle out of the place.

Daymon Ellsworth

This place is AMAZING!! The Reuben sandwich was to die for. I'm glad I don't live near here or I'd be 1000 pounds! I'll be back though when I'm in Indy again.

Catherine Riebe

Love it. Bagels were buy one and get one free this am.

Richard Brooks

Always good for a quality meal.

RoZ Smith

I remember going to Shapiros on the Northwest side of Indy with my mom as a lil girl!! Still the same!! Good food, Nice friendly employeess!!

Stephen Enzor

The food here is awesome. Love going here.

Colin Steitz

Top tier Ruben. A must visit food spot in Indy

Sharon Oren

Cool atmosphere, respect to the heritage decent food but very pricey

Michael Beebe

This is a must go to place in Indianapolis for me. The pastrami on rye is absolutely amazing. Everything is a bit pricy, but the food is fantastic. You know what you’re paying for.

boyi LIM

Big portions of food for decent price!

William Gibson

First time there, reminded me of a big kids cafeteria. I had the ruben sandwich, veggies and pie. You get a nice selection of food options, a nice size portion, but $30 for what I had was surprising, too me (e.g., I don't even expect that price in Chicago for what I had). Note: most sandwiches you can order a 1/2 sandwich, the ruben is not one of them.

Mike May

Great food, great selection, but VERY,VERY OVER PRICED !! If you want a great corned beef sandwich, goto Meijers, but 12 packages of corned beef at .69 cents each, buy a loaf of soft Beefstake eye bread for $3.00, a bottle of hot brown mustard for $1.79, and a jar of Classic polish sill strips for $1.98 and make 2 sandwches for less than 1 sandwich at Shapiros.

Jeff McEntire

As my dear and belated friend used to say, "Oye Vey, don't get me started". I really enjoyed it. I walked from the stadium in pouring rain to get there. The best meal I had during my stay in Indianapolis.

Amy O'Neil

Historical place with good quality food. Very pricey, but generous servings.

Curtis Young

A friendly, reliable classic delicatessen with generous and delicious portions...no matter what you choose. The breads & desserts are amazing! Bring a big appetite and a big wallet... you'll need both... and worth every penny.

Christopher Fowler

I have always enjoyed eating at Shapiro's food is always fresh & good you will get your money worth

Matthew Gordon

It is always great here. Had meatloaf mashed potatoes and green beans. Carrot cheese cake is awesome. A must before sporting events.

Andrea Wolsifer

Always great. Strawberry Cheesecake is scrumptious.

Ali

The food is consistently delicious. Hands down an excellent pick for lunch or dinner. I have loved everything I have ever tried here.

Dolores Malcolmson

Best deli for this Bronx native living in the Midwest. Plus great bakery!

Max Ramirez

I’ve been coming here for about 15 years now. Every time I visit, the food is the same. The pastrami and roast beef are excellent. The dinner portions are generous and the desert are awesome. 15 years of consistency and good food in my book.

Sarah Shirley

Shapiro’s is everything I hope for in a deli and a bakery. I had the brisket sandwich on Shapiro’s homemade rye bread. I didn’t need any extras on the sandwich. It was good just the way it came; however, I generally have lettuce, tomato, and some sort of mayo on my sandwich... so that may be something I try next time. The dessert section is killer. There’s something for everyone. I recommend the Black Forest cherry cake. ☺️

Ca Ha

Friendly, fast, delicious, etc. I drive down from Michigan and would rather wait an extra hour or three until I get near Shapiro’s for lunch than go literally ANYWHERE else. Love it.

Kathy Wood

Unique Family cafeteria famous for quality foods. Specialty is Ruban Sandwich..massive. well worth exploring in old Downtown Indy

Matt Detch

Sandwiches, although truly fantastic, are a bit pricey for what you get.

Patrick McElroy

That wasn't a $13 sandwich. Passable pastrami couldn't save the sandwich which was shockingly bland. No tang, no spice, no sweet, no... flavor. Good people watching in the cafeteria-style dining hall.

Jason Fay

Visiting the area and it was highly recommend. They didn't disappoint. One of the best pastrami sandwiches I've ever had to date.

Brendan Brogan

Places like this have shuttered their doors in most other US cities. Thank god this place stays open. Corned beef hash and eggs.

CARL E MORGAN

Great lunch! Looked forward to being in town complete with a trip to Shapiro's!

Stacy Bond

Awesome food. Love going there

John Jones

Been on the courner for almost 100 years. Very well known local place

Leslie Bomar

One of my favorite spots. The food is always high quality and you just can't get a better Ruben.

Dee Black

Best roast beef in town.a bit high priced but very good.

Edward Stark

Great Ruben Sandwich!! Nice place with old time atmosphere! Very friendly and helpful staff. Real close to the Colt's stadium!

Aleta Schnitzer

What a great choice for lunch! Visiting Indy, we found it on our own for lunch, and the next day, local friends suggested it and we happily went for round two. We also had a meal or two of leftovers. The desserts were amazing, great bagels, (took some home for breakfasts) and the servers and cashiers were incredibly patient and kind. We had bagel and lox, tuna salad sandwich, corned beef sandwich, latkes, potato salad, boston cream pie and devils food cheese cake (twice!) Definitely recommend, you won't be disappointed!

LMG LMG

It was like being home in New York incredible food really high prices

Mildred Perkins

Lots of seating, nice variety of old fashioned foods served quickly. My companion and I were both sick after eating there, though.

Michael Lawson

This wonderful place is now on my way home. The healing power of their chicken broth is legendary, as are the massive deli sandwiches on freshly baked bread

M Webster

Slightly pricey, but you get what you pay for... food is always excellent and despite the sometimes long lines the wait isn't bad

Bill Johnson

Nothing to say..... The TOPs!! Don't pass through Indianapolis without stopping... you'll be sorry! Wow, incredible food.

Kevin Parker

Great food and staff as always, an Indianapolis staple that is a must visit!

Gabe Bryan

The best you'll find outside of New York. The pastrami on rye is my favorite that I have ever eaten in my life.

Chad Puckett

Great food. A little overwhelming first time with all the selection.

Paige Neal

The selection of food is almost overwhelming, but no matter what you choose, you will absolutely love it! We will definitely be back!!

Betty Rabold

Always great food. I had the stuffed cabbage dinner. It was excellent. Always crowded at lunch time. Also had my first time ordering breakfast on this trip. I ordered the Izzy Omelette which is veggie & I added spinach. One of the best omelettes I have ever had.

William Alagaratnam

Delicious Reuben, the meat, the rye, and the sauerkraut, were excellent, but a bit on the pricey side at $15 for just the sandwich.

R Shaw

Fresh, good food. Clean restaurant. Nice staff.

don cornelius

Best kosher deli I have ever eaten at. Buffet or carry out. Don't pay attention to price because one sandwich will make two meals.

Felicia D

Unique, iconic place. A little expensive, but you pay for quality. Reuben samdwich is always great.
