Ribs, the waitress was excellent service with a smile coffee was a bit luke warm but she had no problem making a fresh pot. The ribs were tasty but not fresh they were probably from the night before reheated but I can't blame them it was early midweek and you can't barbecue every single day without high-volume foot traffic. I will try them again when I'm on that side of town.

The cabbage was delicious. But I didn't care for the cinnamon they used in the batter for the fried pork chops the taste is more prominent after heating them. I wanted greens but they use Turkey in their greens instead of pork. Ok it might be healthy for those who can't eat pork kudos to them, however I'm allergic to poultry so that takes their greens off the list for me.

I was very excited to try this new place for soul food. I decided on the fried catfish dinner, mac and cheese, greens. Catfish was good, could have used a little more seasoning tho....mac and cheese was good.....the greens were a little disappointing. I got what seemed to be a bowl full of stems. Had little amount of leaf to them. They also were a little too sweet. I have to agree with some other reviews they did taste like canned greens. I would give them another chance tho bc everyone can have an off day.

Good BBQ and fresh vegetables, and friendly service make HIS Place a good choice. I ordered the 2 meat meal with brisket and turkey with green beans and mashed potatoes for the sides. Brisket was tender, moist and flavorful with good hint of smoke. Turkey was well smoked and just what I expected. BBQ sauce was sweet, similar to Sweet Baby Ray’s. Green beans and mashed potatoes were both very good, and was happy to see the potatoes were fresh and NOT from a box. The meat was not as hot as it should have been though. Next time I will order the potatoes with butter though as the gravy tasted canned. A little disappointed in the iced tea, as it was instant and not fresh. The portion size was large and very filling. I think I will go back for another visit. They had plenty to choose from on the menu and had both good quality and quantity.

Very disappointed, mac and cheese was really dry, and you could tell it was made with cheap liquid cheese, the mashed potatoes and gravy was gross, you could tell the gravy wasn't made from scratch. The corn bread muffin was super dry and had zero flavor, and last but definitely least the so called smothered pork chops were undercooked and really thin. To be honest I was VERY DISAPPOINTED AND THIS PLACE WON'T GET ANOTHER DIME OF MY MONEY. SAD WHEN AN ESTABLISHMENT GETS notoriety their quality of food goes down. Sad day for my 15$, could have went to McDonald's

So I have to say the chicken and waffles I got was great! And all the food everybody else got that I was with was on par. One person in our party complained that their wings was cold and they brought out fresh new ones immediately. All the people in here seemed very friendly and welcoming, but the only complaint I have is that the aesthetic of the place wasn't the best. Definitely isn't bad enough to make me not want to come back, but it could use some work.

The service was great and we were promptly seated. The chicken was crispy and well cooked but lacked flavor. The fish was well seasoned but it could have been crispier. The green beans & collard greens were from cans but well seasoned. As for the macaroni it tasted like canned cheese. The banana pudding, sorry to say, was terrible. The menu says it’s the best banana pudding you’ll ever have and that it’s made to order. Trust me don’t believe it. It was very light and didn’t have a pudding feel. It was almost like whip cream. The wafers were stale but the bananas were fresh. It was not made to order.

Because I live out west and all the mixed reviews about the food I never wanted to waste a trip. I decided to go ahead and give it a try since I had been wanting some cornbread dressing and was getting my car repaired off Shadeland. What a waste of my $20. The stove top dressing was not what I was looking for. The canned greens wasn't what I was looking for. The non baked mac and cheese definitely wasn't what I was looking for. What I was looking for was some good home cooked Sunday after church soul food. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I will say the customer service was awesome and they did get the food to me very quickly.

I had looked forward to dining here for quite some time. We drove 30+ miles to get there. We were greeted by a very friendly wait staff, the menu was full of delicious sounding food. I ordered the ribs, othersin my party ordered Smokey meatloaf,brisket,ribs & chicken and waffles. The ribs had a grainy texture, the mashed potatoes were instant, the brisket had not been trimmed and was super fatty...now for the good part... the Mac and cheese, collard greens, cooked cabbage, cornbread and chicken and waffles were good. We also felt $85.00 was overpriced for the experience we had. We seek out local diners to support “mom and pop” style businesses. We were extremely disappointed and will not be back.

I feel like I should explain my five star review. This is not a five-star gourmet restaurant. It is however a five star diner/neighborhood eatery and I believe it deserves every one of those five stars. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They have a wonderful fried bologna sandwich… I believe the best one that I have found in town and I am very picky about my fried bologna. Everything else on the menu is tasty, hot, and fresh. It's a great place for a meal, and just to soak up the local atmosphere.

In an era of cookie cutter, hum drum restaurants where it seems to be ok with serving large portions of mediocre at best food, Chef James has stepped up to the plate and hit a home run! Good soul food and the portions are great. I had the rib tips with a side of mac n' cheese, collard greens, and corn bread. The sides were excellent (but I personally make better corn bread lol). Although this was my first time having rib tips, they weren't very tender. Then again, that might be the way they're always cooked. Nevertheless, I will be back.

Everything I expected it to be and more!!. Best part about it, when we walked in staff was very friendly and polite. Greeting us at the door made me us feel special and welcomed. This place is doing it right!! From the warm greeting we received when we walked in to the red velvet brownie we had for dessert, everything was wonderful. I couldn't decide, so I got two smoked meats (pulled pork and spare time). The pork was really good but the ribs were the best I've ever had. The mac and cheese was excellent. My hubby has the meatloaf and looke it a lot. He enjoyed the potato salad and creamed corn, too. Our service was great and the owner himself came out to welcome us, then to see how we enjoyed our meal. We'll definitely go back!! All I can say is YOU GOTTA GET HERE AND GRAB A PLATE!!!! The chicken and waffles were perfect. The seasoning on the chicken was so light and airy, not at all greasy. The waffles were excellent as well. Their Uptown Signature drink was so good I asked for a to go cup! Service was great and everyone there was very friendly. The sweet potatoes cheesecake was a great ending. We were out of town and stopped there because of the great reviews!

Wow,if you like soul food or BBQ this is a must in Indy. I've seen this chef on Indy style a couple times, so this has been on my wish list and I had some high expectations. Yesterday I got to enjoy this deliciousness for myself, I knew it'd be good from opening my door in the parking lot, the aroma was just what you want to smell wafting from a soul food & BBQ joint. We tried the pulled pork with green beans and candied yams & chicken wing basket along with peach cobbler for dessert. We loved it all. Super friendly staff. I look forward to returning to try the ribs & fish fry Friday & eat more greens beans, yams and peach cobbler!!

Greens and cabbage were delicious. They were out of brisket though. Someone there shared you have to call in advance to check on brisket because they run out often. I had fish instead; i was good but not something I'd order routinely as it wasn't amazing. My sister loved it though and ordered 5 servings to go for dinner for her family. My sister raved about her burger and said it was seasoned very well. My friend loved her mac and cheese, creamed corn, and banana pudding. The staff were really great too! Super friendly. I called my husband at work and told him I'd found a place on our side of town to try out their ribs. Will report back more later!

Everyone cannot fry chicken...these folks can! We were in town visiting and pulled this place up on Yelp/Google. We were NOT disappointed. We should have ordered to go food for the drive back to PA. It was a Sunday afternoon and the parking lot was full and the dining room. So, we immediately knew the reviews were not a lie. We were greeted and seated. Trinity was our server. What a sweet young lady! Very attentive, informative and professional. Great hospitality from the front staff! There was a bit of a wait for our food. However, it was due to everything being made to order. Which is fantastic! No one wants fried chicken that has been under heating lights for however long. We ordered chicken and waffles, sides of collards, mac and cheese, and yams. Along with an order of the beef brisket. Needless to say no one spoke during the meal...not even our kiddos. All you heard was Mmmm, this is good. Everything was seasoned to perfect! I have zero complaints! I'd drive 8.5 hours just for a plate again!

I had dinner at His Place last night and it was not a pleasant experience. I ordered the catfish special which is a rare treat for me as I watch what I eat. The food took a while to come and when it arrived there was a strand of hair in the very cold French fries. The catfish was Luke warm. The dinners was a complete waste of good calories. I would eat here every day for the rest of my life if I could. I'd weigh 300 and I'd be broke, but I would be happy. The food is exceptional. I particularly like the smoked meat loaf wrapped in pepper bacon. The rib tips are excellent, as is the country fried steak, as well as the smoked brisket, fried catfish, chicken and waffles, and many more delicious menu items. Today I had a boneless fried chicken breast smothered in an onion gravy that was sensational. The sides are over the top: my favorites are the creamy mac and cheese and the flavorful cholard greens, but try the bourbon creamed corn, too. I like the laid back family atmosphere -- many families with little ones, and no one in a hurry to leave. And I especially like that the owner, Chef James, comes around and greets his guests at their tables as time permits. By the way, the Banana Pudding is out of this world good -- so smooth and creamy and full of banana slices and vanilla wafers. If you like great soul food, you will absolutely love His Place Eatery!

Food is really good. One item to stay away from because they do not taste soul food ish would be the unsweetened iced tea. Since it's not usually a soul food item, only people wanting to drink it due to medical reasons would probably even consider it. Service friendly. Food delicious. The greens are so delicious as well as the fried fish. Go there!

Went there for lunch I had the ribs and potato salad and corn bread. Corn bread was dry cold and my potato salad haf a hair in it they took $1 off. Usually the food is good.

Awesome food! Great ribs, sides, sauce, and especially staff. We tasted sides then ordered great meals. We love soul food and weren’t disappointed. Low prices, big portions. Only problem was we didn’t have room for more! Don’t pass it up.

I’ve ordered food from here three times and it is very consistent in quality and always some of the best meatloaf I’ve ever had. The macaroni and cheese as well as the mashed potatoes are super good my go to side choices for the meatloaf entree. Favorite desert goes to the red velvet brownie! Just keep on doing what you’re doing!
