REVIEWS OF Irazu Costa Rican Restaurant & Catering IN Illinois

Alex G

The appetizers alone make this one of the best BYOB restaurants in Chicago! High quality, fast cooking. Actually, the server we had was also very friendly and very aware despite it being a pretty busy hour. Kudos to whole staff!

Brianna Marszalek

Visited Irazu for dinner tonight. It is such an open environment, and we were luck to visit on a beautiful evening. We ordered the tilapia tacos and the surf and turf burrito. Both dishes were amazing! We left so full! The place is BYOB and cash only so be prepared. Henry was so welcoming and the staff was very friendly. We will be back for sure!

Wonderful shop. Always a pleasure to go here

Simone Gourguechon

Pura vida! The best

joshua folta

I wouldn't know. I'm staying in an Airbnb next door and Google thinks I live here. Smells great though! Unfortunately no rating on the

Dave Huang

Excellent food. Personally I think it is better than 90 miles to Cuba (similar cusine). The grilled skirt steak is to die got.

Erica Hernandez

I loved this restaurant! Their appetizers were delicious. I'll have to go back for more soon. Prices are reasonable and the BYOB makes it extra appealing. It is a cash only location so I'd strongly recommend you bring cash. There is an a.t.m there, but it's good to know before hand.

Rebecca Camhi

One of my faves in the city but wait to sit can be very long! Luckily you can BYOB while waiting! Food is delicious and you cant go wrong with the empanadas!

Wanda Agosto

Delicious definitely a must

Arlet Martinez

I’ll knock off 1 star for being “Cash Only”...I HARDLY ever carry cash... but aside from that this place is delicious!!! The rice water is too die for

Natalie Rodriguez

What the change?? I have been coming here for over 20yrs. Things change yes I know. I love them to see the family still there, it is great but stop changing the food. Now they took such a simple thing as mushrooms out of the veggie burritos. Come on, definitely doesn't taste the same. Have been stopping in each time we drive in from Detroit. Definitely disappointed this time. Wish they would just keep the recipes the same. Charging for all the extras that used to be included too. Glad at least the salsa verde is still the same. Glad they are still thriving. Thanks for the memories when you had only 8 tables.

Amanda F

This place is amazing. Very fresh, fast and alot of options. They have options for vegetarians tooo.

GRANDMA MIMI Vilchez

My husband and I were just there today everything was great!!! I finally tried your Pepito!! It’s delicious thank you so very much!!! My husband is from Costa Rica and misses his “home” food... i am so glad you are there

Piper Henry

I love this place it was so anwsome it was a very good

LADY V

This is an absolute must try. Great atmosphere, great service and the MOST AMAZING FOOD! get the skirt steak you won't regret it! FYI cash only and byob.

Tod Melton

My girl and I just went here for lunch. Great food! Glad you deliver. We'll be calling.

Lawrence Grose

Awesome food! Lively atmosphere. Not fancy but not pricey. Byob

k Leigh

I used to love Irazu. But it's lost its homeyness with its expansion. The acoustics are so miserable you cannot hear anything. I still enjoy the freshness of the food, but the ambiance isn't what it used to be

Dave S

Excellent Costa Rican food. Yummy Pepito sandwich and Gallo Pinto. Tried Taco Ticos which were some of our families favorite. Loved the Horchata too. Very traditional like when we visited CR.

Dee Gee Johnson

Absolutely delicious salad. I added chicken. Quite a generous sized portion. Will definitely get it again. The chicken soup smelled out of this world. I'll get that next time.

Wissanee Blaine

Nice tasty food and very reasonable priced.

Mike R

Authentic, delicious Costa Rican food. BYOB, great service and cash only. That is all you really need to know. Flavors are right on the spot, I recommend the empanadas as a starter and of the dinners or sandwiches. Portions are generous and pricing is right on the mark. Good for kids and groups.

Taylor Daniel

Been coming to Irazu's for over a decade. Always a place I bring people. Amazing food for a great price. Cannot recommend enough.

Cristal Morales

We went Saturday, April 13th and sat in the backroom with our party there was only one server. I wasn’t sure if they were short staffed, but they could have had more servers in the back. We asked our server if he was able to hand the whole backroom at this point he snapped back with “yes,”someone in our party said , “ No, I don’t think you can , because we keep trying to get your attention and you have walked past us like 5x.” Which resulted in our server saying “ Is everything alright sir,” whenever our party asked for something. It definitely was an awkward night. Hopefully, next time we”ll have a better experience. Other then that the food here never disappoints.

Morgan M

Everything here is great! I’ve only been a couple times but I’ve never been disappointed

Brandon Does Gaming

Very garbage. And the man at register who is going baldy is so rude. I also saw one of the cooks drop something on the floor and he pick it up to put back on the frying pan. Haha. Crazy place man. Pura vida!=/

Angela Cesere

Amazingly tasty Costa Rican food in a casual, colorful setting. We stop by this place almost every time we're in Chicago because it never disappoints.

Richard Meade

Get extra Lozano sauce. You won’t regret it.

Ricardo Castro

This poll lace is super nice. Costa Rican food. Go ahead and explore the menu, you will like it. It has many items that have a global kind of taste. My favorite are the empanadas...did not tasted a bad empanada. We ordered them all. They were GREAT!! Also try the steak and shrimp plate!! Amazing!! You cab order the side of yuca fries or patacones (tostones, fried green plantains) soo good and crunchy. Believe me you can order anything and you will like it. Also heard they have a small event place, Cool! Highly recommended when in Chicago.

Lupe Ramirez

Good food, fast service. BYOB, and cash only establishment.

Adolfo Ramirez

Great food i love the service

Will Pross

The first and still best local restaurant on the Milwaukee corridor. Great food, nice employees and fantastic prices. Good and fresh sandwiches.

Taylor Alcantar

The food is always 10/10. I love that they have great meat dishes, but also have vegan food so there's something for everyone. Its byob and cash only.

Andres Capous

Only Costarican restaurant in Chicago. They make miracles and offer some great menu items in a country with a very scarce source of the ingredients needed for home cooked Costarican food. Only complain is that they take cash only. Love that it is BYOB. Wish they offered Imperial though!!!

Chaya S.I. Davis

Food was good. Didn’t take too long to get our meals. The portion size was just right. Be prepared to pay with CASH ONLY! That’s the only downfall. They should really consider accepting debit cards at a minimum, especially for large groups. This is also a BYOB restaurant.

James Olson

We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is always great and the staff is wonderful, very friendly and efficient.

Robert Dailey

One of the best restaurants in Chicago hands down. Great service, good vibes and most importantly. You can interact with the owner, which is rare at restaurants. Also the rum cake is a must try.

Jason Mason

Great food!!! The only downside is that you have to pay in cash and they will not separate the bill for you if you have a few people. So juggling everyone's cash can be a pain. But the food is so good here it is well worth it

Nick Kaplan

Food was fantastic... service was lacking

Delray Shaffer

Love the food! I've traveled 3x to Costa Rica and Irazu tastes just like the great food of this Central American nation. I would give the restaurant 5 stars but the remodel needs to include sound insulation. I have found it difficult to carry on a conversation with my friends when the restaurant is busy with many guests. But I plan to return!

Brian Lu

Amazing food and great service. Great spring next to the glass window that allows you to see into their kitchen.

Jake Dermer

The best food for the best price in the city. A great place to meet friends and BYOB.

Verlander Thompkins

The food here USED to be amazing! I had not been in a few years and ordered from them last night. Had the Costa Rican steak sandwich and patacones. The meat was sub par and the patacones were over cooked. The Lizano sauce did not have any kick to it. I'm sure the like most places in the area they have lessened their spice levels for the type of customers who now seem to populate that area. Service was still pretty good. That's why I gave them 2 stars.

Eric Gosh

The food is good. It is a little noisey. One of the few places in Chicago with a decent oatmeal shake.

Essence M.

I first I loved this place three, four years ago but I went recently and my food was extremely mediocre. The selection is limited. I couldn't have been more disappointed and because I didn't like my food but there wasn't anything else I wanted to eat on the menu, I just left hungry. I'm a foodie who researches places before going. Somehow I missed the mark on this one because I went a few yesterday ago. Maybe there's new management, either way, it's unfortunate that I left a restaurant feeling SO upset.

Josh AmRhein

Food is incredible and affordable. It's also nice to be able to bring your own drinks. We had a large group of friends and the restaurant was very accommodating. The wait staff was great during our visit and the food was ready soon after we had ordered. This spot is great to have dinner and drinks before going out in Wicker Park or Logan Square.

ray ira

Great food... Wonderful taste...... As Amazon! It can't be broken! It is also a pleasant, relaxing and relaxing atmosphere. A friend in the summer of 606 hours along this road walking, we were hungry, so we went to the nearest place, someone inside. This is an excellent discovery! I have a great variety of Eppadaas so. My favorite sweet is: The price is very good, the proper food because I was happy 3. In

Tram Nguyen

The food here was delicious, portions were large, and service was efficient and courteous. The $6 tacos are a steal since the three tacos each have double corn tortilla layers. Sandwiches are huge and the ones with steak were delicious. BYOB.

Jacob Marquez

Good vibe, quick and friendly service, simple but great flavors. I tried the shrimp and veggies platter with the rice/beans and fried plantains. It has an intense garlic flavor which I love and the cumin really shines in the rice (though a bit salty). The plantain provide a lovely sweet compliment as a pseudo dessert. Overall it's a good choice for a solid meal in Bucktown. Cash only.

Johannis Rosario

Great food, awesome service!

Matthew Brown

Very interesting place: good food, good crowd, despite the frigid temps

Linda Burch

Wonderful traditional food, friendly waitstaff, and good prices.

Paul Walters

We had 40 people. Service was great food was awesome!!

Christy Prosapio

We booked a party with Henry at Irazu and had a great experience. Our guests raved about the food, the location and the service. The booking included everything you need for a party- tables, chairs, linens, glasses, plates, silverware EVERYTHING. we were able to decorate and had help with the cleanup. A hostess was provided who served drinks, cleared plates, offered a helping hand when needed. Our guests were very impressed and felt welcomed. What more can you ask for. Thanks to the crew at Irazu for helping us make a special day easy.

Kresimir Sicel

Delicious food and great, friendly service. Byob is also a welcome thing. Can't recommend the place more.

Matt Wrzeszcz

Great restaurant with an unique feel.

Andie Siegfried

Delish!

Conor Sanders

Pros: Great food, good portions and it's BYOB. The environment was nice and quite colorful. Cons: This place is popular, don't expect to be seated right away. Also, order early because it takes a while for the food to get to your plate. Overall, it's a great spot for friends!

Larry Glasscock

Great food and service.

Matt Dull

Good food here. BYOB so be sure to bring your own!

Tomasz Samczynski

Decent food and service, short wait even on a busy evening

Snowflake Healing

So good

Brad Cohen

I have been coming to Irazu for over 10 years, fantastic place! I couldn't brag more about the food, the skirt steak is ON POINT! We have brought dozens of people over the years that have all enjoyed it, many still go to this day. I highly recommend the skirt steak and or the tacos! Great place, great vibe!

Julia R

One of my favorites! I suffer from colitis and have a lot of reactions and allergies to certain foods. These guys prepared my food separately, willingly, just so I can enjoy my favorite dishes, without cross contamination! Their milk shakes are amazing. Vegan friendly! Gluten free friendly! Very authentic taste!

Kickers That’s me

The bees kneeez . The food is divine. The staff is great too and if they know you they hook it up and are just extra kind . This was across from apartment building so They all knew me over their and their all great and hardworking cooks and employees. Their dedication is impeccable.

Steven Danan

Been a patron since 2000, everything is always fantastic and delicious. The owner and staff are great. Makes me wish I still lived in Chicago to pick up my weekly shake and steak steak sammich

Ray Gonzalez

I love this place. My wife and I have been eating here for almost 20 years now. Great food. Love the shakes. Oatmeal shakes that'll make you believe you can fly....

Nathan Pabich

Great veggie burrito. Easier to get a table since the expansion. BYOB, so always a cheap night.

Andi Kowalski

Delicious guacamole and empanadas - try the spinach one! My husband enjoyed the Costa Rican sandwich - tender meat Order the rice and beans - Costa Rican style of course The restaurant is on a corner...plenty of street parking. BYOB Cash only Reasonable prices

Noe Huerta

Great Costa Rican restaurant, in the summers it can be await they also offer BYOB.

Kevin Mies

Authentic atmosphere and excellent Food. Keep it up!

Esther estevez

Great food! Gracious staff.

Ben Randle

Second visit since they expanded and changed up their menu. All I can say is WOW. The "surf and turf" was so satisfying both times. Basically a skirt steak with shrimp on top and cheaper than other spots with just the skirt steak....

tony ozegovich

Great service, great food and a nice fast turnaround too.. I get plenty of good central and south American food here in sfl.. this was probably one of the best dishes I've had. Glad I did find them on a top eatery list online.

william bennett

I haven't been here in while and remember it being better than my recent visit. Food was okay but just seemed a little bland. I would go back and try again though.

Justin W. Flory

I was in the neighborhood and found the restaurant while looking for cheaper Latin food with vegetarian options. I was on a student budget and traveling alone, so I was looking for something affordable and also filling. Irazu was the perfect spot for me! I ordered a chile rellano which came with a side of plantains, rice, and beans for $12. It tasted as delicious as it looked. Without a doubt, I will return with friends and family. The service was also friendly and my waiter had several recommendations when I asked him for his favorites. Also, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and there are several things to make you forget for a moment that you are in Chicago. A great place to go if you are looking for authentic and delicious Puerto Rican / Latin cuisine.

Cesar Gonzalez Buenrostro

Nice place, fair price for gallo pinto. Not the original gallo pinto, but a “fair try”. Downside is that it’s an only crash place. Enjoy

Benjamin Yoder

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. Get the Oatmeal shake and the Chifrijo!

Marco Suarez

I'm a Costa Rican living in Elmhurst and Irazu is my goto place when I'm craving home. The food is amazing and Herry and the entire staff are great, demaciado pura vidas todos.

Guadalupe Leon

Place is awesome!! BYOB is the best and so is their food! Pulpo Ceviche was

Michael Herbert

Everything was very yummy and if you want to add or subtract an ingredient they are very ok with that. Everyone should try the oatmeal shakes they make because they are so tasty! And you can get it with soy which is great! Service is great and staff is very friendly.

Kip Wilcox

Great ethnic food/sandwiches if you're looking for something different.

Somsubhra Ghosh

Nice an cozy. BYOB and food at reasonable price. Fresh ingredients so taste is okey. Great surf n turf.

Rachael Babiracki

good cheap food. Loved the oatmeal milkshake!

M F

I’m not exactly sure who they’re paying for these good reviews but let me give you the truth. The food is tragically BLAND so bland and unappetizing I had to ask for something to dip the sandwich in....not only was the food so tragic but the customer service was TRASH! Whoever the guy is that works at the cash register was so incredibly rude when my party of 6 wanted to split our check. As he angrily checked us out he repeated to our server ( who was great actually) “no more splitting checks, I don’t care if they seem nice”. He said this repeatedly in our face. WOW I get better customer service at McDonalds. I would never recommend nor patron this restaurant again! Save your money and energy and go somewhere else there way better restaurants in the area that actually appreciate their customers.

Juliana Perez-Mitchell

I’m Costa Rican & I eat here all the time. I do wish the gallo pinto & arroz con pollo tasted more authentic though if they did I would order them all the time. I recommend the taco ticos and the surf & turf tastes just like my tias tacos and my dads bbq! Just about everything else is delicious.

Samaara Rodriguez

The food was ok, but I was expecting way more. I am from Costa Rica and the food did not taste as similar as I thought it would. Simple details as not including fried beans and pico's de gallo to the patacones, can make a difference to make it more "costarican" experience. I did not order the empanadas but just by looking at it, it was obvious that were not typical from Costa Rica. I think they should specify that's more a fusion place because there is Mexican and Venezuelan food too, that might help with the expectations.

Jonathan Katz

Henry and his team make you feel like you are at home at this delicious spot in Logan. Ben was a great waiter and the food suggestions were perfect. Couldn’t recommend higher. Get your Irazu on!

Chester Chan

Delicious delicious delicious. Make room for plantains.

Jimbo R.

If you are looking for good Costa Rican food, this is a good place to try. Friendly service, good price.

Shelly Sorrells

Excellent food. I always bring friends from out of town here. BYOB and cash only! Only downside is that it does get loud when it's busy.

Kimberley Dilley

Doing keto and they threw more veggies in my dish instead of the starchy sides! Great service and tasty food.

Matt Webb

Great BYOB spot for some delicious Costa Rican food. The Nachiticos were great to start, and you can never go wrong with a Pepito sandwich.

Kyung Park

Such an amazing staple in the neighborhood! Their chifrijo is absolutely the best - better than any chifrijo we had in Costa Rica. I always get the pepito sandwich with steak (add avocado). You should absolutely get an oatmeal shake!! It’s made with milk, but they offer a soy milk substitute, so yummy! They take reservations now, so get your cash ready, grab a bottle, and go there now (unless it’s a Sunday, they’re closed on Sundays)!

Andy Ritter

Food was great as was the service!

melelia pitts

great food. with convenient prices

Vincent Cascio

Excellent food. Service is quick at lunch. Everyone is nice.

Kæ Acevedo

Tried this spot for the first time today and the food was amazing. Me and my husband enjoyed ourselves. I would definitely recommend the skirt steak ... Absolutely loved the flavors.

Sunny Arora

Delicious Costa Rican food. Located in Wicker Park neighborhood of the city. Very authentic meal and BYOB. Make sure to get plantains. They are sooooo yummy. To top it all, customer service is great. Just to keep in mind, it's a cash only place and you pay less compared to other restaurants in the city.

Mary Hoff-Robinson

Ceviche, tacos and chofrijo. So good!

Dylan Baker

Ceviche has tons of fish in it and is perfectly marinated. Skirt steak sandwich was a solid lunch. Thank you!

Jacob Mansour

OMG! So incredibly delicious!

THE WOJ

The only Costa Rican restaurant in Chicago and it is authentic! It is BYOB but there is a beer and wine store across the street, so go over there to purchase your drinks. This is where I purchased the Imperial beer = one of the National beers of Costa Rica. Get to Irazu for all your Costa Rican dishes! Pura Vida!

Andrea Wintroub

The food is so very fresh and delicious! My favorite is the Tilapia Taco Plate. Oh, and don't miss out on the Oatmeal Shake (tastes like an oatmeal cookie) - to die for!

Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club

Not fancy but great food good price

Luis Pedraza

Haven't been here in a while and was not impressed with the Tico Grill dish

James Bernath

Get the steak pepito and your belly will love you. If you are not a fan of the spicy beware of the side salsa. It’s delicious but it is HOT!

V. C. Tirumalai

I have been to this place at least twice that I can recall, but I left underwhelmed both times. The reason is simply because I am a vegetarian and the selection here is limited and what I tried was not very tasty. My friends OTOH who are omnivores enjoyed it. It used to be BYOB. If it still is, good value if you go as a group.

Tim Crews-Anderson

Oatmeal shake! Chifrijo! Empanadas!

jessika gualtieri

Amazing food, amazing milkshakes

Alexandra Pollack

There is nothing bad about Irazu, food is authentic and awesome.

pedro gonzalez

Good food and the staff is polite .

Rose

I like this place except they're cash only. They have an ATM, but come on. I had to go back home when my card wasn't working at that ATM to get a different card. The one thing you can do to avoid inconveniencing your customers is to make it possible for them to pay in the form most convenient to them. This is 2019 in a progressive city guys, you look like a*#holes. I'm guessing Irazu makes good money off the ATM, but I haven't gone back since that time even though I've wanted to because I rarely have cash and I refuse to pay these jerks for the ATM when I can pay with card anywhere else.

Estefania Ravasio Corrales

I literally almost cry of emotion finding a little piece of my homeland in Chicago. Chifrijo was the real deal and the Casado and yuca fries didn't disappoint.

Tad Jones

Food was tasty, service was good and the portions were generous

Julieta Campos

Great food

Kyle Dahl

Overall: Great food is marred by mediocre service at this Tico spot. The good: The food is hot, fresh, and authentic. Having been to Costa Rica 4 times in the past few years, the flavors and offerings here are the same found down South. The menu is perfectly balanced with what you can find there (plus huge), and everything on the plate was delicious. Definitely upgrade to the steak. Oh, and BYOB. The not-so-good: I've heard the prices have gone up exponentially recently. Our waiter was absent for the majority of our time there, including when we had to pay for the check. We had to take it up ourselves and left. We were there for 2 hours, which shows the delay between ordering and food service. Refills never came and our waiter wasn't invested at all emotionally. Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 5/10 Food: 8.5/10

Kim - Envieux Photography

Amazing food, love the oatmeal banana shake with soy! Been going here for 20 years, the recipes STAY THE SAME, PERFECT! :)

Doug Bright

If you haven't had Costa Rican before, it has similarities to Cuban and Puerto Rican food in the emphasis on rice and sandwiches and the lack of (hot) spiciness that plays more of a defining role in Mexican food. Awesome, family friendly atmosphere and BYOB.

Michael Kies

This place has a great combination of good food and affordable prices. It's also Byob, and they'll also provide mixes for margaritas! It's a casual, lively fun place.

Ali Gasimov

Delish

Michel Farguson

Never eat something nasty likes that,I am Costa Rican ,I never eat a nasty Casado likes that ,I visit Chicago ,and i say let me go too eat some food from my Country,I am so SHAME,that they call the restaurant Irazu, they over charge us,the casado was 15 dollar and they charged us 19 dollar each casado ,that was never casado ,it don’t taste like casado, the plantin was so heard, and then ,until we all finish eat they told us ,that they don’t accept credit card, you all are making my Country Costa Rica looks bad ,and you all are charging for something not tasting good ,that not my Costa Rican food ,you guys most doo better, and stop making my country looks so bad with your food ,you got to close that Costa Rican Restaurant

Akshay Kashyap

It's almost 2020, yet this place is cash only. Conveniently, there's an ATM machine with a ridiculous fee. Food might actually even be good.

Haley Miller

I’ve tried this place a couple times. The food is not super memorable but the atmosphere and service are great.

Dr. Cassandra Bragg-Collins

This place is the BOMB! Simply delicious.

Jose Portillo

I love the chips and salsa of this place and the people is great

John Velez

Amazing food at great prices. Love the place

Justin Friesen

Slightly expensive but authentic Costa Rican food!

Aisha Imtiaz

Great food and great service. Waiter was attentive. The windows at this restaurant open up and it feels like you're sitting outside.

Julie R

Everything was so delicious would highly recommend! Cash only.

Shashwat P. Baxi

Went with a big group of people last night, so my experience was probably already going to be different in terms of wait times and service. Still, they did a decent job. The empanadas were my favorite thing that we ate. We were so stuffed from the guacamole, chips, and other appetizers that we didn’t even want to order any large portioned entrees. This is a place that I’d never heard of, but am quite glad that we went! Couple minor complaints about things, which is the only reason they don’t get 5 stars. Still, good food and a loud atmosphere!

Brian Dressel

It's a neighborhood staple. If this place ever closes, I'm moving out of Chicago. Their burritos, chips and salsa are the best in the city in my opinion. Not to mention, the oatmeal shakes. Amazing.

Adriel Melo

They have great outdoor seating and it has very fair prices. I don't think the hype around the food is earned, but it is still a solid choice to eat out in a group. It's a nice change of pace from usual food options as there aren't many Costa Rican options around. It's not worth going out of your way for or waiting in a long line, but if you're in the area and you can sit right away then head on in for the food.

Vega Martian

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The management was horrible, and racist.. Upon ordering two plates, the tacos were good but the chicharrón (beef chunks) was all grease and fat and un satisfying. Only one of the waiters were concerned about my experience, he was amazing and had great customer service.

Mary Ann Grossman

Pthe food is always fantastic

Kay Cee

CASH ONLY! Small but great place and friendly staff.

Lynn Meersman

It was okay. Maybe my expectations were too high. I've been wanting to try Irazu for a while. I wasn't like "wow". It was just ordinary. I had chicken. It was good. Nothing special.

Martha Daniel

Irazu is a great neighborhood or destination restaurant. Great ambiance along with genuine Costa Rican food. The menu goes meat or vegetarian. The service is always lovely and the entire staff is always welcoming. Swing by and give it a try!

M Alm

Great atmosphere. Everything on the menu is delicious. This is one restaurant where you will come back again and again. It gets crowded. Do not come in a hurry.

Megan Martinek

Amazing food, amazing service!

Charles Szymanski

I ordered the palm salad... and asked for NO cabbage... given it has the option of mixed greens, spinach, or slaw... I got a PLATE... an ENTIRE plate of cabbage...with the other ingredients put on top. Also...no fork, or receipt in the bag. First time ordering... epic fail. I’m allergic to cabbage.... the few things I can eat... are ok. Dressing would have been nice. But not worth $9....

Zoe Slutzky

We shared a few empanadas plus an entree. Loved the plantains. We both got delicious non-alcoholic drinks as well, great fresh watermelon drink and a ricemilk drink. Will be returning!

Lolo Medina

They have good customer service. Very inviting place and people. The cheese and spinach empanadas were great. Overall the food was pretty good. The chicken and rice was kinda of bland. Otherwise things were good.

celia stevens

The food is sooooo delicious! And, it's BYOB! It's cash only so go to an atm beforehand.

Melanie Thornton

My first time here and it was hands down delicious!! Great service, amazing food, and a great atmosphere! Kinda small if it's crowded (we went early evening) and it was fine. Nice breeze with the big windows open on a summer day. Will definitely return and recommend!!

Humza Ansari

What a great experience. From the beginning to the en I havent experienced a better atmosphere to eat. I recommend ordering the guac and chips before your entree!

Andres Garay

Hey have a special sauce "izazu", its incredible

Raoul Kumar

Food is great also BYOB

Tuyen Tran

Great service and the food was great. We especially loved the fresh watermelon drink and oatmeal shake. Please note they take cash only.

Amaris Souchet

Phenomenal food! Phenomenal service! Been coming here for years, best Costa Rican restaurant in Chicago!

Jose Maysonet

Is a great place good food my only bed thing is the meals have to be more hot when you get it overall is a good place friendly

Brian Overton

Good Food and Nice Staff Members

Marcel Hoskins

It's a very social and clean restaurant! The staff is soooooo friendly and it's BYOB

Vivienne Sullivan

Good choices for pescatarians. Reasonable prices. Pleasant service.

Joshua Buss

Irazu is always very good. I wish they had more options for the tacos and burritos though (I realize this these aren't really Costa Rican things, but they have great pork on the other items!)

Matthew Beaumont

Irazu is a neighborhood favorite. I enjoyed visiting before moving to the area, but am happy to go regularly now. They offer both traditional Costa Rican soda cuisine along with Americanized versions. The veggie burrito with sweet plantains is my go to. The service and staff is warm, friendly, and prompt. The setting is casual. I highly recommend.

Kaylie Straka

Our favorite spot in Chicago for unique food you won't find in a smaller city. Try the milk shakes and anything with Lizano sauce. The plantains are also nice. Service is generally good with reasonable wait times.
