REVIEWS OF Straw IN California

Charley Galdamez

Really interesting food selections. We had the donut burger and raspberry jam chicken and waffles sandwich. Both delicious, but my goodness that chicken and waffles with raspberry HIT the spot. Portion sizes are solid and the atmosphere is real circus like. They even give you popcorn while you when seated.

Anna H

Had a perfectly good meal at Straw. My boyfriend got the doughnut breakfast sandwich and seemed to enjoy it, although he did say that it was quite sweet (don't know what he was expecting!). I ordered their complete breakfast meal of eggs, potatoes, bacon, and toast and a strawberry basil mimosa. The toast was SO good and the potatoes were to die for. I also loved the drink! It's pretty expensive, but on par with other similar places in SF. Our server was very nice and we got seated pretty quickly, even on a Sunday brunch day. It's a small place and the seats were a bit tight - if you don't want to hear your neighbors' conversation, I wouldn't go here! All in all, a satisfactory experience. I wasn't wowed but I would definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Angela Lard

Loved our time here. We we're lucky enough to be seated at the Tilt-A-Whirl table which just added to the fun. Adored the menus that were inside children's books. I ordered the cotton candy drink (it was my birthday

BeBee

Cool little hidden place. Well not actually hidde, but not as easy as it seems to find with Google maps. Just because its on a kinda one way main street. So you have to do full around the block circles to find it than find parking. The food is ok but not for the price they are asking. But its a tourist destination/attraction for sure. I dont see locals paying that much for fair food, but than again its San Francisco, the rent is ridiculous. I'm 3rd generation Born and Raised here so I'm speaking from experience. Also the staff is super awesome and super friendly. And u can preorder online and pick up. Gotta love that.

Ann Kennedy

This place is really FUN! I love it! It brings so much joy to me everytime I come here. I love it

Basilio Martino

I mean doughnut breakfast burger do I need to say more? Ok ... if you insist.... frozen sangria! BOOM!

Tim Hines

Tiny place with some big flavors. They're known for their Chicken waffle sandwich, which is amazing. Donut sandwich is also an awesome mix of sweet and savory.

Tam Tams

Came here with a group of 12 and the accommodated us so nicely. The food was great! And would definitely go back but go back and share a dish with someone. Their food portions we're giant!

John Kuehne

Just plain awesome! The chicken and waffles sandwich was really tasty.

Shelby Wildeman

I must say. This place is quite special. First let me talk about the waffles. These waffles are beyond amazing. And the syrup is so thick and rich. The bacon was cooked to perfection and the eggs were excellent. But the service here is what brought me back. It truly is quite special. They actually care about you and want you to enjoy your meal as well as the time you spend here. The service here is amazing. They are always smiling and making sure everything is perfect. I truly enjoyed this place. I highly recommend it.

Jackie Gillis

Such good food! Small restaurant, great waitress.

Katelyn Sweigart

Delicious take on a croque-monsieur!

Jackson Ekis

I’m not a grilled cheese connoisseur, but this was by far the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had, especially paired with the creamy tomato soup. My group happened to arrive with very limited time before closing, and the staff made their best effort to accommodate us even though we arrived at a bad time! Would definitely recommend!

Hannah Kate Meyer

Love this very nice and fun place. Plus, the foods here are very tasty that you'd love to go back here. :)

MARC LOST

I can't say enough good things about this small restaurant in Hayes Valley. Their take on American comfort food is great. They have excellent drinks and cocktails. This place is awesome for brunch. It's unfortunate that it's gotten more difficult to just walk in. They're busy, and it's recommended to have a reservation, specially during brunch.

Ismail Sebe

First of all this place is cool looking. Nice ambiance. I really wished the food tastes better. The waffles were really bad. They were quite flat feeling. It might be the style, definitely not my favorite. The service is kind of slow but that is understandable. The staff was Uber nice though, nice people. Overall a bit of a let down for me.

Joseph Albanese

Awesome circus themed restaurant.Harkens to Coney island days.

Ali Cherry

Simple and delicious! Highly recommend sitting outside on a sunny day and having the cheesesteakadillas.

Joseph Kalinowski

I loved this place. A little tight, and... well... it's like circus food, so it's not really a "classy" place. But good to get your fill and some fun cocktails.

Eron Salling

Fairly disappointing experience. The atmosphere and staff is nice but the food was really under seasoned and dry. The fries had never seen salt, were undercooked, and my burger (the donut burger) was way too sweet with no seasoning at all on the burger part, which was way too well done. My partner had the chicken and waffles, which was equally dry and lacking seasoning. Cute place, but the food looks better than it tastes.

Anand Pandya

Good reviews did not prepare me for this fun and charming carnival themed restaurant with great comfort food, yummy cocktails, friendly waitstaff and amusing decor.

Piedad I.

Excellent brunch. Weekends only. Great service.

Mackenzie Thomas

After a wonderful walk to Hayes Valley, we stumbled upon Straw for brunch. The casual, carnival atmosphere was the perfect setting to a fun meal. The donut egg sandwich seemed to be the most exciting dish on the menu (yes, 2 donuts with eggs and bacon) and though I didn't get that, my vegetarian egg scramble was equally delicious. Everyone seemed to be having a very fun time complete with large mason jars filled with Bloody Mary's.

Samir Jain

We asked to confirm that the toast I got was gluten free, the waiter said it was. It was not.

Michelle C

Straw is a fun, carnival themed restaurant that serves up waffle burgers and cotton candy. It has a nice interior but gets a little smoky because there's little air circulation besides opening the door.

Ho Le

I had been to San Francisco about 6 time before I found out about Straw. This is one of the best places to go for breakfast/brunch. The restaurant is a little small, but it's well worth the wait. The waffles are ginormous, the burgers are crazy good, and pretty much everything on the menu is a winner. You owe it to yourself to find your way here for some good carnival comfort food.

Celeste Suárez

Amazing! Best Croque Madame ever!

Mackenzie Musso

Abstract food, but amazing. I have strawberry basil lemonade and a donut cheese burger.

Reggie Bryant

Their Rocky Mountain madame ($15) is super delicious, and is perfectly crispy. The potatoes are also pretty crispy. I would come here again to get the Rocky Mountain madame, which also had a delicious creamy sauce. The house lemonade is also very light and refreshing. And the fried potato circles that come with the hanky lanky are pretty good as well I would quite recommend the donut burger because the donut was kind of stale, and also i don't like donuts with burgers.

Ope Oladipo

Wait times are huge and the place is tiny AF but the food is good.

Ryan Marentette

What a fun and unique place. It's not often you get to sit in a fair ride and eat a delicious meal. I had the Fried Chicken-n-Waffle Monte Cristo--it was great. I also got to taste the Philly Cheesesteakadilla, which was really good too. The server was very friendly and enhanced the entire experience. Make a reservation, the place was busy and several groups were turned away. The busyness did not impact service in any way.

Czach Hidalgo

Fun food that you would normally not find virtually anywhere but from a traveling circus. I'd stick to the crazy concoctions, they're amazing.

Kaye Monty

As with most places that offer brunch in the city, there is always a long line here on the weekends. I had to meet a friend for lunch on a Monday and they had an opening online. They had a breakfast menu for lunch but also offered salad and sandwiches. My friend ordered the Rocky Mountain Madame (egg on challah bread, prosciutto, swiss, cheddar, bechamel sauce and home fries. I ordered a the blackened salmon po-boy. I want to try their fried chicken and waffles next time. It's not a mad house during the week compared to the weekend.

Jeff Hanke

I really like grilled cheese and tomato soup, and this place has my favorite version of that combo in of SF. They grill parmesan on to one side of a fluffy-bread sandwich with delicious cheese inside. I'm nocking off one star because the fries were not great last time I was there.

Jacinth Sohi

Tiny restaurant that specializes in carnival-inspired foods, and even has tilt-a-whirl cars you can sit in. Think burgers on a donut, truffle popcorn, and funnel cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. Getting a table was hard, but you could put your name down and get drinks nearby and come back.

Mandah Lento

This place was my favoriteeeeee place in SF to eat! Monte Cristo was the best! So unique!

Craig Parker

Had the Ringmaster. Different but good. Spouse had the Phillisteakadilla. Very good. Fun place

Jess Killips

For a brunch locale, I am sad to say Straw pulls in a mere 2 stars for me. The food, while innovative and unique, is more unique than tasty. The concept of reinventing carnival food is really smart, but, their execution was lacking. Loved the service, the menu ideas, but would not return because of lackluster food. If you must go, I would recommend the pork and grits....for something more unique, the red velvet pancakes.

Nima Dehnashi

Food was great! The chicken and waffles were very tempting and it didn't disappoint. The service honestly could've been better, hence the 4 stars. When we lined up outside, they didn't have any pens to write our name down. Another customer who showed up later brought their own pen, wrote their name first and they were seated before us. The customer made it a point to tell us "we should've brought our own pen". It was a bit of an incredible situation but I honestly couldn't help but laugh and just wanted to eat in the end haha. I guess bring a pen with you if you're coming here?

Hyde Patterson

Feels totally authentic - a passion project of someone who thought of every little detail, rather than a designed firm that was hired to overlay a theme on a standard high end restaraunt. Dishes were all interesting, delicious, and reasonably priced. Intimate setting with not too many tables

Elizabeth Smith

Straw is a cozy and fun place for small groups. It's carnival-themed dishes are quirky and delicious. The perfect atmosphere for cutesy dates or a fun girl's night. And it wouldn't feel complete without a cotton candy dessert option!

Mae Cruz

Its worth the travel and the walk. From Mini Corn Dog (savoury) to Fried Chicken & Waffle (delicious) to Churros (melts in your mouth) - an amazing food discovery for us!

Elice Simmering

So glad we discovered this fantastic gem! Delicious filling burgers, fun & quirky atmosphere and phenomenal cocktail combinations!

Mark Domingo

Unless if you have patience, the wait is worth it. Small place. But good.

anthony scott

Fun spot with really tasty food!

Lala Baker

Friendly and helpful staff, chicken and waffles were good. Waffle is made of cornmeal which is different. The funnel cake was good.

Mareese Munroe

I wasn't that thrilled with my dish. Had the waffle chicken sandwich. Too dry.

Philip Choi

Ate the donut burger. Very interesting experience and enjoyed it. Would recommend for those who are curious. Pattys were unseasoned and donuts were sweet.

Paul Peletta

Great staff, fun decor, vibrant environment and delicious food

Dylan Marriott

It was very good, soooo much sugar though

Adamme Kearney

Interesting concept, and might better if you're really craving a corn dog. I got the chicken and waffle sandwich which has jam on it which is different. It was okay but the chicken is more like popcorn chicken, so wasn't great quality. The waffles have cheese on them which is different but not bad. Good crispy consistency. Neat place overall, but I wouldn't go back.

Baron Migs

Was definitely an experience. Go to the gym before you get here. Your calorie count will go through the roof. The mini corn dogs were my favorite. Do it once and have a fun experience. If you have a strong heart then maybe go back. Oh the pizza soup could use some cheese

Tony Natoci

It’s a fun menu and an even better vibe, but something about the food disappoints. Good but not great, especially for the price, the food is consistently one beat off—too sweet, too dry, ingredients just not quite of the quality you’d want. Worth a trip but not 2.

Tailor Tanner

We met up with friends for brunch this weekend and I was absolutely blown away when I got there. The menus are in children books which was so fun. The atmosphere in the place is really fun and cool (it's carnival themed). I got the pork, egg, and grits and it was absolutely amazing. Others ordered the donut sandwich and the egg in the toast. Everyone loved what they got and said it was delicious. Definitely recommend!

Matthew Arkin

What more can I say than Glazed Donut Bacon Cheeseburgers? Straw is an awesome little restaurant in SF. The place is pretty small, so make sure to come early or make a reservation but it makes for a fun little date spot. The carnival-fare is hard pressed not to make even the pickiest eater smile. Make sure to leave room for desert and their cotton candy of the day.

Eric Chang

Great location. Ordered the donut burger which looked good on paper, but after 10 bites, got old real fast. The sweet potato tater tots were amazing though and saved the dish.

Charlie Crawford

This is definitely a great place to eat unique items and a caring staff that treats you like family.

Kevin Song

A fun restaurant with a carnival theme! The glazed donuts (serving as burger buns) were absolutely fantastic. Expect a line if you come during brunch hours and more calories than your doctor would like.

Ayele Ajavon

Really good food. My friends and I just went crazy on this place. We decided to go here out of the blue. Headed there tonight for dinner. Good place for developing the necessary skills to stuff yourself. I had the chicken and waffles which was pretty good although they made it into an actual sandwich. The sandwich consisted of chicken strips, blackberry jam, cheese and was encased in two fresh waffles. Not your typical chicken and waffle dish but pretty good. I don't know if I would order it again but I kind of liked it. We also got a side of sweet potato tots. Carnival style food with adult beverages → can we get any better than that?

Dylan Wells

Lovely atmosphere and creative food, although our server was a little surly. Perhaps he was having a tough day.

Zechang Li

Sweet and salty. Strange but great combo

Annie Rademacher

Unique environment, friendly staff and fun carnival inspired food. Highly recommend the Salmon Po Boy!

Cassie Dusute-Ristovski

This place was the highlight of our San Francisco trip. The food was so unique and delicious! The atmosphere was also great (a tad creepy with the clowns, but it is circus fare!)

Nikki Lane

The lady told me this place was not on a hill but its at the foot of one actually in between very hillen streets that my silly gps forced me to take. I have a bad knee so walking down the hill on Page was hellish!

Melissa Gonzalez

Amazing service, food was just okay

Mariko Rubi

The food and the service where both amazing. We were seated right away and my date was seriously impressed. From the cute pics on the wall, adorable menu, food to die for, and a super reasonable price, there is not a bad thing I can say about this little gem.

ГРОЗЯН

Good burgers

Jessica Imbleau

Fantastic food! We took our 2 year old and she was able to be entertained with the atmosphere and choices. I had the chicken and waffle Monte Cristo and the husband had the Philly cheesestakadilla. Portions are good for dinner and a snack later, but worth the price. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Winson Wong

This place is definitely whimsical and fun. The food is very heavy (as you would expect). I'd come here if I wanted to revisit my childhood and indulge once in awhile. I had a donut burger (aka burger with two donuts as buns). It was delicious because it's sweet and savory mixed together. It's definitely fatty and lots of calories but I enjoyed it at the moment (then regretted it afterwards). Overall, the place is OK, prices weren't super cheaper either. It's fun to check it out once or twice but wouldn't be a regular place I go to. I do love the decor because it's a carnival, it's fun.

Travis Camph

Overpriced, crowded, not that good

Jana Münchenberger

Good quirky variations on "Carny Fare". Excellent cocktails. Minus one star for trying a bit to hard. The waffle fried chicken Monte Christo was good but a bit too much relying on sugar, salt and grease for taste.

TheRealAppeal .

Straw is the poo so take a big whiff. Love this place. Food is great staff is meh. Everytime im here all I think about is how badly they need to update their decor. They have a fun theme they could be doing some amazing wall art, and decor items the ideas are endless but it's lacking a lot. Also their hours are annoying.

Julian Parks

I had these waffles and man they we're so soft and perfect. Those little cheese rolls were also pretty good. My Soror, her friend and I shared this mixed drink bowl. It was kind of light but pretty tasty. I suggest this place for brunch for sure.

John Muhlhauser

This place was great!! The food was amazing and unique! Make reservations before going or add yourself to the waitlist. Highly recommend going. The staff was amazing!!

Dmitriy

Food is great. While I get that it was a Wednesday night, they should have more than one waitress. We got there with a group of 7 and it was packed inside and some folks were outside. She was trying but clearly overwhelmed.

Angela Oliveira Pisco

This is little cute place with playful decoration and food menus covers that are children books :) The food is great and the portions are very big. I'd a Fried Chicken -n- Waffle Monte Cristo and it was delicious. The only downside is that we had to wait for over 1h because they forgot to put our order but then they compensate for that on the bill. I'd recommend Straw for brunch!

Shakira Davis

Very small intimate place with good comfort food. I enjoyed my experience!

alice w

Came for brunch on a Saturday. Got lucky and only waited for a little over 10 minutes. No reservations online or by phone on the weekend. Got to sit by the window, best seat in the restaurant. Food was very delicious. Wait staff were all very friendly. Easy parking around the area if you go early.

Beck Marquis

This place was GREAT! I have a passionate love for chicken and waffles, and this place has them with a twist that really holds up. The circus theme is really fun; there's even an old ride car in the corner of the restaurant. My brother had the grilled cheese (decked out with all the add-ons they offer) and it was also delicious. We're just visiting SF, but if we're ever back in the area, we're absolutely coming back for the churros that we didn't have room for this time!

Evan Ratolf

Hands down best burger joint around! A lot other good burger spots are good too but there's something about Straw's unique flavor that separates itself from the rest of them. Reasonable prices and quick service is also a definite plus. I had a bacon cheeseburger and a side order of fries (a humongous portion and seems ample for a party of two.) Milkshakes are Straw good. Straw a In-N-Out when there's a Straw? Nah, jk. I love In-N-Out too!

Skylar Romero

American food and service here is above par. A preferred evening place.

A Scheirer

This is a really cool, carnival-themed restaurant. My favorite is the fried chicken waffle sandwich with raspberry jam. The fries were really yummy, too. The service is great, and you can eat at one of the outside tables if it's a nice day. Definitely one of the more interesting places I've eaten in the city.

Angela P

The wait was not super long for a Saturday, service was fine and location is ok. My favorite thing I ate was the croquettes. I thought I would have liked the waffle but that was actually my least favorite. The waffle was soggy and dense and I prefer crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside also the taste was just not there for me.

Cory Daignault

I have been looking forward to a SF donut burger for years. I wasn't disappointed.

Amy Parker

I have to say my friends and I were disappointed with our visit there yesterday. We noticed it opened at 9:00 so were having coffee at the cafe next door. before hand .At 8:58 we got up, gathered our things and walked next door. The door to Straw was open and a family was already seated at a table with menus, so I thought they were open, and asked if we could come in. The host said okay but didn't smile or greet us and the person cooking in the kitchen said loud enough for us to hear, "Is it 9?". It felt as if he was not pleased we were there at the most 1 minute early. We were celebrating a birthday and ordered our meal. I had the breakfast sandwich but asked for bacon on the side as I don't eat meat. I used the bathroom (very clean) and when I returned to the table my friends said they returned the order of bacon ,which had arrived while I was gone ,because it looked under cooked.; 'translucent 'were their exact words. My friends got their meal and after a couple minutes our server brought me my breakfast sandwich with bacon on it and the side order that was now crisp. It was no problem to remove the bacon, but the egg was over done, the yolk completely hard. Our server, although great, didn't ask my how I wanted the egg and I didn't think to tell her. All in all our experience was 'meh'. We didn't feel very welcome and the food was okay. Positive notes: great cheesy potato croquettes, clean bathroom , fun birthday candle in a cup of cotton candy for my friend celebrating her birthday and wonderful server. Maybe they were having an off day and I might go back with my grandchildren another time.

John Piscia

A must if you are visiting. The carnival theme is fun and the donut burger was even better than expected. The meat was really well cooked. Make sure to add bacon to it because it really ties the whole thing together. The strawberry margarita was good but not worth it but it didn't take away from the experience.

Katie Glass

Despite our arrival just before closing time, the lovely staff of Straw were really welcoming and very patient answering our silly questions ("what's a root beer float?", "what are sweet potato tots?" etc) The decor of the place is really fun - kind of down-at-heel fairground chic. Both the root beer float and the potato tots turned out to be awesome. Kudos to Keith our server for being super nice.

Courtney Rothlin

Always get the chicken and waffles! Amazing!!

Andrew Nelder

It was really quaint. I think they did a lot with a small older space. Very friendly, great staff, and amazing food! Would totally go back.

Carolynn Jimenez

Fun decor, friendly service and tasty food! We arrived around 10 AM on a Saturday and there was no wait. Prices were reasonable too.

Malabika Mishra

There are some interesting food choices here which adds to the decor of the place .

Kyle Schwab

Chicken and waffles insane. This place was so busy on Sunday afternoon they couldn't keep an open table. The turnaround time on food was quick and the service was excellent.

Megan Smith

Donut burger equals love!!!!!

Evan Marmol

Not sure if I want to say deliciously decadent or decadently delicious. Either way, great spot for a sumptuous meal.

Davey Freeman

A 50s style Americana dinner with some classic fair food and other artery clogging options. Even their healthier options where deep fried and accompanied by fries. My table had the donut Burger, chicken and waffles, and salmon po-boy. All three were great. Only thing to note is they are very small, so reservations required and no large crowds.

Ying Jiang

Fried chicken is delicious, donuts is delicious... tho I don’t know if I like the combination

Flora Fiorillo

I like this place. The decor is very cool, the music takes you back to some decades ago and the server is very friendly. We didn't wait at all to get seated because we walked in past 1PM on a Friday but we did wait for 1 hour to get our food because our order got lost. I ordered the waffle sandwich with fried chicken and a side of sweet potato tater tots. The sandwich was unconventional but good: the waffle was dense and not too sweet (A), the fried chicken was flavorful and lightly spicy (A), the marmalade was tasty as well. Sweet potatoes tots were really good! This is not a place where I would go regularly but definitely one that I will go back to eventually. The menus are really cute... mine had horses!

Jeremy Stover

Food was delicious! We got the fried chicken Monte Cristo and the huevos rancheros with a fishbowl drink (that could have been a bit stronger). It was a great experience, but the service was kind of bonkers! Very hectic and rushed. I'd go again, just not for brunch, unless the drinks get a bit more kick to them.

Daniel Glover

I went with three out of town relatives, all of whom were over 65. They really enjoyed the ambiance, service and food. I had the donut breakfast sandwich, and I must say the donuts were just about the best I’ve had anywhere- fresh, hot and melt in your mouth good. They kindly switched the fried egg with scrambled. It worked. The potatoes were out of the ordinary, too, with red peppers and onions. Going during the week might result in getting a table easier. We had an advance reservation- so no issues. My relatives loved it, and the ambiance and quaint touches brought back memories for them. A must visit to a uniquely San Francisco joint if you live in the Hayes Valley or lower Haight. Thanks for a memorable experience my relatives will talk about for some time...

Paul Hellemn

A good number of excessive dishes to add some variety to the standard brunch game. Still mostly tastes like your standard sf brunch, but it does look a lot more impressive. The sauces were pretty good.

Kelly N

I love this place! The menu is printed in children's books (like at our last visit it was in a Dr. Suess book) and it's all circus-y. The food is so good! The pizza soup is really decadent and good for sharing. Chicken & Waffle monte cristo is really good because the chicken is moist and has crispy breading but the waffle is just soft enough to eat. Our waiter both times was Max, who is super friendly and on top of it! He recommend the doughnut breakfast sandwich - add avocado, which was a great choice! Would recommend!

Michael Almisry

A restaurant really dedicated to the carnival theme, which I can appreciate even if it's not exactly my type of thing. Instead of bread, seasoned popcorn was served. The menus were modified children's books and the dessert menu was a notebook full of drawings. I ordered the chicken and waffle monte cristo. I found the balance of meat and waffle to lean a bit far waffle, but I was blown away about how good the waffles were. My friend and I couldn't stop talking about them and it convinced me to give the fourth star.

Sarah Edmiston

Came here while on a girls trip in san francisco - this place is a MUST for a foodie. We split there Rocky Mountain Madame, Donut Breakfast Sandwhich, Fried Chicken and Waffle Monte Cristo. We all LOVED the waffle sandwhich, then the Madame, the donut breakfast sandwhich was fun, but a little sweet for us. The service was wonderful, will be back as I will be dreaming about that dang Monte cristo! ALSO on another note that had wonderful cocktail drinks as well!

Pema Bhutia

Great place for brunch with friends. They have a very unique style for breakfast.

Cory Lui

The Jambalaya here was bomb! Best I've ever have. Will def be coming back here just for that alone. The atmosphere here is very unique with a carnival theme everywhere you look. The Cajun popcorn they serve instead of bread was delicious and the deep fried sweet potato tater tots were a great appetizer! Highly recommend bringing your friends here. A one of a kind experience!

Robert M. Munroe

AH-MAY-ZING. I don't have to say anything else but, I'm going to. ;-) This place is simply a decadent shrine to hedonism and comfort food. In the spirit of Citizens Band, they blend the best of sweet and savory to set your taste buds a flame. The foods here could only have been conceived in a fantasy, an incredible dream world where everything you ever wanted is yours for the asking. I should add that I was a very overweight child and I've had this dream. :-) The place is pretty small and the ambiance was quaint. It has a carny theme to it and the booth is a Tilt-a-Whirl! Plus, the staff is very friendly and helpful. In short, GO...but, leave your diet at home. P.S. - AWESOME

Mason Musumeci

Fun, novelty restaurant, not many choices if you are vegetarian.

Rachelle Duke

Who doesn't love fried chicken? Awesome HH options to try a little bit of everything. Think of our selection, i was happiest with just the wings and fries. The salad was a little sweet and the sliders just alright.

Chad Tuckerman

Solid brunch place. There’s a decent wait if you try to go during prime hours.

Lynn Chayatanan

I was the first person in on Saturday morning, and the waiter (Max) was Amazing! The atmosphere is simple but festive. The menus are cute, and the specials all sound amazing. Delicious food! I got the chicken and waffles special for brunch. Deliciously sweet and salty, and a TON of food. The fries were perfectly crispy and not greasy. The chicken was still moist and worked well with the waffles. Would bring a friend back here for sure! The chicken and waffles with a cup of coffee and a good tip left me about $24 dollars shorter when I left. Money well spent, and a good place for a special brunch.

Lewin Edwards

Awesome food, friendly staff and good prices. You WILL be stuffed!

Rohenne Lee

Quaint little spot. I was really excited when I saw the photos and read about this restaurant because the food seemed fun and reviews were good. We got the fried sweet potato tater tots - pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary of what you'd expect from that. For our mains we got the rib sundae and shrimp and grits. I was really sad that it wasn't all that I hoped for. The ribs were really tender but the bbq sauce felt like it just came from a can and nothing was done to it to make it taste even better. The shrimp and grits - not enough shrimp and too much grits! The shrimp was cooked perfectly though. The service there however was really really good! When our food took a while, they gave us some popcorn with paprika to snack on while waiting. The ventilation there is also REALLY bad. After the meal, both my friend and I smelled like the food and had to wash all of our clothes to get rid of the smell. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't go back again.

Megan

Great restaurant with fun theme. I got the breakfast sandwich on a donut while my boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. The breakfast sandwich was delicious, and the side of potatoes it came with was a perfect addition. The waffles came with a great amount of jam and cheese to give the dish a salty sweet balance.

Mark Cohen

Nice place to grab breakfast. Busy street so a bit noisy sitting outside. Some good options for healthy eaters

Dennis Jackowski

Have been there on late June and of course...had the Ringmaster. It was a greate experience you should really try it. The people working there we're really lovely taking care of us. The interior is kinda special but i like it. Go to this place!

James S

Had the donut cheeseburger here. It was the best thing ever. The donut/bun is made and freshly glazed (to order) in house - specifically engineered to hold the burger better than a normal donut. Also, the coffee was phenomenal. Inside is simple with a big open window to the kitchen. Decorated with carnival stuff to fit the style of the food - you can sit in an old teacup ride car if you want that awesome photo op. Music was great and staff were super friendly.

kwind25 .

Overrated. The food didn’t stand out from any other brunch spot, but the wait was two hours. They did a good job with the circus theme, but the over-worked vibe the service gave off brought down the energy of the place. Going here took up the majority of my afternoon when there are less time consuming options with better menus. Would never go back.

Andreas Mehlsen

This place was amazing! I shared a burger with my girlfriend and they were very kind to actually cut the burger in half and serve it with extra fries. The burger was very tasty. I recommend this place.

Vickey Alvarez

Amazing service, food, and atmosphere what more could you ask for? Reasonable prices, yup they've got that too. For the booze hounds: their sake beverages were outstanding! Who needs a liquor license when you can make tasty concoctions without them! Glazed donut burger is top notch and save room for the flying saucer!

I came here for my birthday, my boyfriend and I were visiting from London.. The staff made my birthday absolutely magical! The food and drinks are so incredible! The chicken and waffles is amazing and the quesadilla is great! We had the funnel cake for dessert and it was fabulous. The staff is kind, attentive and makes every customers dinning experience unique and pleasant. Huge thank you to Straw Sf for making my birthday dinner one to remember!

I went here for brunch today with a group of friends, and I must say they have some really quality food for very good prices. I put us on the waitlist online before going, and got there at the suggested time, but we had to wait an extra 45 minutes beyond that. I guess its because their space is pretty small on the inside. As for the food, it was truly exceptional. I had the Straight Up, and asked with egg whites instead of whole eggs, and a side salad instead of the fries. That salad was by far the best side salad I've had at a brunch spot. I think it was just Arugula with what they said was an apple cider vinegar dressing, but it was so so good. I could have honestly had just that for the entire meal! I was a little disappointed that they didn't have any cinnamon when I asked for some. It would also have been nice to have a wheat bread option for the toast instead of the Texas toast that comes with. My boyfriend and a friend shared the Fried Chicken and Waffle Monte Cristo, and the Ringmaster Donut Burger, and they said both items were really good! Another friend had the Portobello Melt. We all tried some of the mushroom from the inside, and it was really good. We were all surprised as meat-eaters, since none of us expected a mushroom burger to be that good! Overall a great place with good food, but one less start for the limited menu options and long wait.

Nice place and interesting menu

If you have the funds, coma-inducing brunch awaits you here. This restaurant exudes a strong sense of character, as one might guess with their self-described "carnival fare." Between menus made of children's books and unique but not-too-far-removed dishes like Jenga French Toast, Straw does an impeccable job of carving out its own style in the heart of San Francisco.

Wonderful food but expect a long wait.

The restaurant is small and very cute. The circus theme is fun and the menu is creative. The donut burger was delicious. Our server was great, very attentive. They have a tilt-a- whirl table that would be awesome for a date. We made a reservation so had no trouble getting in and it definitely was full when we left.

One of my favorite places in the city! Been here for both brunch and dinner multiple times and the food is always yummy. Lot's of unique dishes to choose from too. Great place to bring out of town visitors. .

Will Staso

Tasty food, good sized portions, but just a few inside tables. Reservations would seem a good idea.

Nasty place. Rodents everywhere.

Chris

Unique atmosphere, delicious original meals, nifty drinks, and good service.

WOW! I have been wanting to try Straw for a while and I was highly impressed. Amazing stepped up favorites, fun drinks and the best funnel cake I've ever had. As an Alaskan born and raised I can say the best Alaskan salmon preparation I've had in San Francisco. So wonderful! If you haven't been here yet, get here now!

Casual carnival themed restaurant and food including turkey legs and pulled pork sliders. Service is very friendly and attentive. A bit pricey for somewhat low-brow, but hearty fare. Recommend coming with a small group and eating family style. Love the concept but can use a lot of improvement.

I was disappointed with this restaurant. The food was not very good and was overpriced. We got the chicken and waffles and the donut burger. The donut burger did not come with any toppings aside from cheese. The portion sizes were okay. Based off of pictures, I was expecting more from the decor, and the ambiance was a let down.

Food is incredible! Staff are kind and hard working. Love this place. Whether you're visiting San Francisco or a local, this is most definitely a spot to check out.

Food is good but took too long to get ready.

Absolutely amazing food and experience at Straw. We're local and love their fun, festive nature so much we actually held the rehearsal dinner for our wedding there. Things we recommend: - The Donut Burger - You'd think it would be too much (and quantity wise it is), but in terms of flavor they brilliantly balance the savoriness of the burger with the slightly sweet glaze from the buns. FYI it reheats surprisingly well in case you need to leftovers home. - The Rib Sundae - Also epic. My 92 year old grandma from St. Louis went to town on her portion. Presentation and taste are both excellent. - Popcorn Cauliflower - There aren't many healthy options at Straw, but this appetizer checks that box (kinda) while also being adorably delicious - Virtually any of the drinks. They not be that strong, but they're reasonably priced and just silly.

Don't know why I didn't find this sooner, now I want to go there every week and have breakfast ;-) Delicious food, very cozy interior.

Tiffany Tucker

Food was amazing! Get the Lamb Cupcakes! So tender and delicious. A small restaurant so definitely make reservations.

Monica ortgea

Those are their menus. I thought it was cute. The place is small but it's very unique! I love it. If I am ever in SF again I would definitely stop by here again. They are only open on weekends

I really miss the old Soul Food place that used to be here. This food is much too heavy to really eat as a full meal. Come once to gawk at the cool tilt-a-whirl seats, but then go eat elsewhere.

Stephanie Silva

Weird little hole in the wall. Service wasn't great food was worse

Chris Baragar

Awesome gimmick restaurant! We had the Rib Sundae, Donut Burger and the Corn Dogs. All of them were really good! The sundae was a great choice for someone who ends up smearing BBQ sauce on their mashed potatoes anyways. The donut burger was more filling than it looked. They start you off with complimentary sweet BBQ(?) popcorn and fantastic, quick service. The menus are hidden in old bigbooks for kids. Altogether a very worthwhile experience! The only thing we didn't like was the fries, which were a little too close to the garbage fries served at carnivals... But maybe that's the point? Definitely give this place a try.

This place has so much character! Small, cozy and pretty great. Food is awesome, heavy, but awesome! Service is great but because there's only 10 tables or so, you can call in and see how busy they are ahead of time. No reservations though.

Ambience - overrated by reviewers - it's really tiny hole in the wall place - it's not a "circus theme" or anything, it's a handful of elements that remind you of a carnival... nothing quirky or clever or anything, you'll enjoy views of a crummy-looking kitchen area. Food - of all the stuff we had, about half were good, and the other half edible. Very average grilled cheese (if a place can't nail grilled cheese, I am not impressed). The good stuff was good, not great; the other half was just about OK, not bad. Expect to spend $15-$20 at least per person for a somewhat underwhelming experience and average food.

Do not come here unless you're starving. Fun place with the menus even being put in old children's books. Menu is excessive...there aren't a lot of healthy options. Friend had the donut breakfast sandwich which was great and my waffle and eggs were fantastic. The waffle was Liege style I think. Great brunch place to go and pig out! Please note only "knock" is that coffee options were diner style regular or decaf - no espressos guys!

Dandre Allison

Fried chicken & Waffle Monte Cristo.

Justin Su

Fantastic little cafe with a lot of personality; our menus had Spider-Man comic and Space Jam covers! This is well reflected in their food as well. Their take on the classic chicken and waffle, named the fried chicken -n- waffle Monte Cristo, was served with syrup, as expected, but also with jam under the waffle. It was a delectable combination to any the least. Coupled with fun decor and great service, I definitely recommend giving this place a visit!

Christian Noack A.

We went to try the waffle sandwich and didn't regret it! Nice taste and perfect size. I will recommend the French fries, where awesome! Hope the next time bring a little more!!

robert morgan

Oh man just finished my 2nd time in here I got the itis like

Cory Bishop

We have tried to come three times now and they are closed. Nothing posted on the website or on the phone when you call. Always just a posted paper sign. Food was decent but this is not worth going out of our way to try again.

Martina Savova

It was an amazing experience! We arrived around noon and it was very busy - however, the staff was quick to seat us. The food was amazing, the ambiance welcoming, and our server Peter the best! The prices were good as well for the quality and size of the portions. A hole-in-the-wall and must-visit when in San Francisco!

Alex Unger

Food was delicious and so fun! Got a table right away. Look how good this food makes him look!

David Caaveiro

Delicious food and good service in a nice environment. What else could you ask for?

Matthew Moore

The place is small so make sure to make a reservation. You need to try the Mac and cheese I would have never thought apples on top would work with it but it really does.

Morgan Levy

My favorite location for American food. filled me up in no time. the staff was very friendly and attentive. the bill was average for the menu. i see why this place has a lot of good reviews.

Vanna Banana

Smelled gross. Over priced. Looked like the dining area hadn't been cleaned in a week.
