Food can be of good quality but everything is microwaved. Ridiculously complex ordering and payment system that leaves you confused as your food is getting cold. Barley soup had barely any barley no pun intended and was extremely oily. Overall a very bad experience with proper management this restaurant would be much better. Avoid.......

This restaurant/deli has delicious food! Be warned though...it can get extremely busy at lunchtime. The deli has some seating inside and out. The food can be eaten there or taken to go. There is public parking next door.

Food was very good but the service was disorganized and slow. When we were leaving we tried to buy some cookies from the deli section. Patrons were still sitting at tables eating. We were told in the most rude and abrupt fashion "No, the restaurant has been closed for 20 minutes." I am from out of town and had no idea the restaurant had closed. You don't expect such blatant rudeness after a $50.00 lunch. I think the owners should do something about employee training and service recovery.

My favorite breakfast place around Sun Valley, beating out several popular spots in downtown San Rafael, on the Miracle Mile, or others around downtown San Anselmo. Hash, pancakes, and fried rice are all very good, and staff is very friendly. However, don't order off menu; my wife tried to order a basic breakfast sandwich once (just toast, eggs, sausage, and cheese), and she wasn't impressed. She has liked every order she's placed on the menu, though.

This is the best place to get Chinese Chicken Salad to go in hot summer days in Marin. At 5pm, you may call the restaurant first to find out if it’s sold out. During summer months, they sold 800+ salads and may not have ingredients left to make more in the kitchen. I heard they sell easily 5-600 boxes of CCS per a day during summer months. Personally, Comforts Chinese Chicken Salad will be my deathbed meal as I crave for it every few weeks especially hot "I don't want to cook" summer days. The big box (looks like Chinese take out box) of CCS will suffice for 2 adults for dinner. They have marinated tofu instead of chicken for the same salad for Vegetarian. We often get Tofu Chinese salad for friends practicing Halal or Vegetarian. If anybody is allergic to sesame seeds or almond, you could ask one the staff to make those ingredients separately packaged for you, then they will make a new box of salad without those ingredients but on the side (in a ziplock bag) to take home. The restaurant has 2 different areas. One area is deli/take-out counter service area with some round tables and to the left of the entrance there’s a sit-down waiter-service restaurant with a patio sitting.

Comforts is insanely popular. Their Chinese Chicken Salad is so popular that it is like printing money. All the takeout food is good, and the cafe is also excellent. This is just about the best place in San Anselmo for a casual and excellent meal or snack, or for a take-home meal. They deserve their popularity. May they stay open for a very long time.

Wonderfully Tasty! A great little spot. Evidently you can either eat in the ‘cafe’ section and be waited on, or order from the counter to go or eat in the open area near the counter. We opted for the cafe, quick and attentive service, very friendly and knowledgeable waitperson. An interesting menu with enough variations that I had trouble deciding (not sure if it’s a function of my age, but more and more frequently I’ll look over a menu and find only one or two things that sound good). Fortunately my dining comparing was having the same ‘problem’ deciding from four or five of the entrees. So we settled on two of them, the Oriental Chicken Salad and a Bacon, Tomato, Lettuce and Avocado Sandwich, which we split between us. The waitperson had the kitchen split them for us, a nice touch. Both were excellent, lots of chicken on the sale, very fresh greens and a perfect amount of piquant dressing. The sandwich was on wonderful, fresh sourdough bread, a great blend of flavors. Everything seemed extremely fresh and well handled. Both the cafe and the order counter were quite busy, but everything seemed to be going well, as there was a constant flow of people finishing up as more came in. Highly recommended.

While they are famous for their Chinese Chicken Salad, the rest of their cafe menu is amazing as well. Our party had 1 CCSalad, 1 French Toast (regular, not the pecan-crusted cream cheese-stuffed version) and 1 panko-crusted fried (I think it was chicken?) lunch plate. The service was fantastic, and so many menu items looked delicious. The French Toast I enjoyed was amazing, Super thick challah bread (like 1 inch think), but not mushy in the middle at all, and very well crusted on each side. Everybody loved what they ordered, and took home the leftovers. It was a reasonable price for a good lunch, $21 each including a drink and nice tip.

Excellent breads from famous Berkeley Acme Bakery. Professional, fast, friendly service. One room devoted to prepared take out, with hoardes of satisfied customers. WHY are there so many vacant storefronts? Why aren't there more restaurants?

Usually gets five stars for food quality, variety, and, especially the Chinese chicken salad. However, Comforts has the gall to charge a "corkage fee" on their own bottle of champagne in order to provide glasses. They don't tell you until after you ask for glasses, because they presume it's to go, so it would make another transaction. I don't know if it's $5 a bottle or per glass because, when they wouldn't even provide plastic glasses, I got a refund.

As always their chicken salad is the talk of the town. Today I tried the orange chicken tenders and the bread covering texture is the best I've had. It was served cold and still crunchy. The orange flavor radiated my mouth as I flavor it. The only reason I gave it a 4 stars is because they where a bit to sweet and salty I hope they can get that under control and you will have me there everyday for my children salad and nuggets.

I had a terrible experience in the Comforts cafe today. The owner was so disrespectful to the physical needs of a disabled senior citizen that "Discomforts" would be a better name for this cafe. This is a place I will never return to after two decades of being a customer. Their loss, my comfort.

Popular and busy San Anselmo Institution with a deli and restaurant. Popular among locals and also a destination. Known for its Chinese Chicken Salad. I have not been there for a while but today I ordered from the deli side and asked for toast with some avocado. They have both. One of the owners came over to me and stated they do not serve avocado toast. A true Jack Nicholson moment! But I did not take the bait. The Chinese tofu and noodle salad I ended up with was mediocre. I won't be going back anytime soon but I'm sure others will continue to go.

They're famous. Chinese chicken salad famous. The fame is well deserved as it's absolutely the best CCS you'll ever have. However, they're other food is great too. It's nicer to sit outside than inside but it's your typical cafe table setup - not super comfortable but practical. It's a great place for lunch.

This is one of my to go spots in San Anselmo Has counter plus sit down service has a small outdoor space allocated for each. The favorite dish is their Chinese Chicken Salad the small is big enough for most. The wait on both sides can be a little long...the place has been here forever in restaurant years. Breakfast is very good expect 12+ if it has meat. Coffee very good, bakery very good, food very good, Service very good parking during primetime not so good.
