I wish they had a zero star option! Terrible, rude service. Took way too long for 2 tires! Gouged up both wheels! Scratched up the face of both wheels. Called them and asked them if they could do anything about it and they told me to f$@k off. The wheels are $1000 a piece. I’m furious. Guess they will be hearing from my attorney soon. I guess these $1000 a piece wheels will turn into a nightmare for them.

You able to get fuel 7/24 with credit cards at the fuel pumps. They also have automotive repair during the week and car wash when the station is open.

The heat shield on my car came loose and was dragging on the ground on my way to Duluth. While getting lunch I asked about a garage and was directed to Slim's. I pulled in and they took care of me. They pulled my car in after just a few minutes, took care of the heat shield and had me on my way in less than 10 minutes. No charge.

This guy is a thief. He takes advantage of his state contracts to steal tools and belongings from vehicles he tows for state troopers I have the video evidence bit pine county sheriff refuses to do anything due to him holding contracts with them and the state of minnesota. Do not trust this man or his cronies to do anything for you

Paid for wheel balancing, 1,100 miles later.. yup vibrating again even worse. Took it to Ford garage to fix it right. Daughter had oil changed & they didn’t fasten salt shield.. let loose going 70mph dragging under the car, she nearly hit another car startled. Simple things.. stupid mistakes that can really hurt someone. Wake up people!

I had a mishap on the freeway today with my windshield wipers, and Slim's was the closest auto shop. I pulled in and they helped me right away! It was a quick 5-minute fix, and when I asked how much to pay he said "do you ever write reviews on Google? Give us a good one! Happy Easter." These are such good guys. They were courteous, polite, and extremely nice!

The best! My car was having serious issues en route back to the Twin Cities. It limped into Hinckley and I was thrilled to find a service place open on a Sunday. After a thorough diagnostic the problem was pinpointed (and parts were in stock!). Unfortunately, it wasn't a simple fix and being late in day it couldn’t be worked on until the following morning. Car was fixed before noon the next day and runs great! Slim’s has it all – knowledgeable and friendly staff, excellent service, and good prices! No upselling here – they are committed to fixing the problem and getting you on your way. Oh, and they make their own maple syrup to boot! So happy to have found this gem of a family business - will recommend to everyone!!

I work traveling all over the state of Minnesota and picked a nail up on the interstate and blew my tire out on my trailer. Called and asked if they had my size tire in and showed up 5 min later with the rim and tire in hand. He put a new tire on the rim in 5 min. Great little shop friendly nice employees and owner

Extremely disappointed! We got a flat tire and called to see if they could repair it and were rudely told "if you're trying to come today, it's not happening. We're too busy". We called another business who agreed to repair it. We drove by with the tow truck and stopped at Slim's and again were told they were too busy. There were no vehicles in the lot and only one car in the garage. The business we went to repaired the tire within 30 minutes, had friendly service and had more than one vehicle being worked on. I would not recommend doing business here.

My truck broke down at 4:30 on a Saturday. I called and spoke to David, who showed up quickly with a tow truck. Repairs were completed by early Sunday afternoon. I certainly recommend Slim’s if you have a serious car problem and need someone to tow you in and repair your vehicle.

0 friends 1 review 5.0 star rating 5/9/2016 I was on my way to Duluth for Mother's Day. Suddenly my tie pressure light came on and I was able to make it to Slim's. I had an air bubble by the tire rim and Jake was there to tell me that I had possible defective tires and that my tires were on inside out! If I went 1/2 more of a mile, the tire would have blew. They were so kind to put my spare on at no cost and send me on my way. I was so grateful that they were there to help me and not take advantage of my situation. If I was not in Mpls, I would be going to this place for service on my car. I have a call into the place that I bought the tires and will be taking them to court if they do not replace all the tires. I miss small town service. When I need gas on my frequent trips, I will go the extra blocks to go to Slim's. Thank you gentlemen~! Kris

Don't be fooled by their friendly manner! They are out for the bucks! The mechanic didn't install the part my car needed correctly resulting in me having to rent a car, drive to Mpls to get the part he messed up and bring it back for him to install correctly! I agree with others who found their service lacking...wouldn't recommend to anyone, friend or foe! That being said, if you're stuck in Hinckley, you don't have much choice!

My tire popped on the side of the interstate, got my donut on and called here to see if they had a tire for me due to having a few hours of travel left and not wanting to travel on a donut. They had a tire my size and got it on right away! Great and friendly service. 100% recommend and will not forget about this place if I have car problems when I’m going through hinckley next time!

Dave, the owner of Slim's is a super nice guy and helped us out of a tire jam. We were towing our boat up north and our tire blew on the boat trailer on the highway. We called Keith's Towing Service and they were out in less than 30 minutes to get our boat. He towed it to Slim's Service in Hinkley at 6:20 pm, the hours are that they close at 7pm but he told us he would take care of the tire for us anyway! We went down the street and ate at The Whistle Stop for dinner while our tire was being fixed. We had a nice dinner while we waited. Dave stayed late to finish our tire for us and get us back on the road by 7:30. It turned a potentially disastrous event into a simple delay in our travels!

Dave at Slim's saved us and restored our faith in humanity! Our car started having trouble on a Sunday on our way home from a girls' weekend. We were relieved to find Slim's open on a Sunday, and Dave immediately put us at ease. Not only is Slim's auto service excellent, but Dave and his wife were incredibly kind to us, going way out of their way to help us hurry home when we found out while in their shop that one of our group's toddler back in Minneapolis needed to go to the ER. I highly recommend Slim's and plan to stop in next time we travel through Hinckley.

After the water pump went on the vehicle and brakes were grinding, David came to the rescue in his tow truck. Lent us a loaner while repairing the vehicle. David and his crew worked hard to make all the repairs in a timely manner. I definitely recomend this place. Oh! And they sell golf cars and service them.

My Subaru stalled on 35 north bound. Slim's was the closest tow company, so we went called them. The tow truck arrived, my car was hooked up, and we were on our way in less than half an hour. Slim's wasn't able fix the problem (there was a broken part they didn't have), but they towed my car to a Subaru service center the next day. Dave was extremely friendly and helpful through the entire process, and made a very stressful situation a little less so. This experience made me wish I could use Slim's as my go to shop, but I live too far away for that to make sense.

My car completely died at QuikTrip, I called Slim's and Barbara answered the phone and saved me. She sent a tow truck to come get me and they service my vehicle at the same time. I had to have a patch on my tire in Cloquet and then needed to get it re-torqued in Hinckley. I was on my way to take my daughter to surgery. It took about a minute to tighten it and they charged me five dollars. That was only for one tire but they said since I didn’t buy it there I was out of luck. I thought they were rather rude. They did give me a military discount so the total was $4.50 and I only had $4.42 which they accepted, but I would not recommend this place for their friendliness. By the way, I’m a Vietnam/Agent Orange widow so every penny is important. I’ve had many experiences with tires and car places and this wasn’t high on the list. The place in Cloquet was great, however, and I will rate them soon.

Worst service ever. Charged me $110.00 to tow my car 3 miles straight down Hwy 61. Told me on the phone they didn't Accept AAA but when he refused to give me a receipt I drove to his office and learned they clearly honor AAA and also refused to accept a credit card from me stated that he offered me a cash deal but was not the case.. a price was only stated not type of payment..

Had them tow my truck that broke down to my house. In order to tow it they had to take the drive shaft off of the rear end and when they done this they broke three of the four bolts that hold it and didn't bother to tell me.

I think it's an okay shop but overpriced. I've used Slims for a few things. Some of his services are way overpriced, while others are acceptable. No complaints however on the jobs that I did hire him for. Nice carwash! Best around I feel.

Our experience was troubling to say the least. We had our Nissan die on the highway exit ramp and were stuck in the Tobies parking lot. We used a different service to tow us to Slim's figuring a local place would be best. When they looked at our car, they told us the distributor needed to be replaced. They quoted us at $625. I spoke to another garage, West of Hinckley and they did the same repair for a final bill of $335 and change (plus or minus 3 dollars). This seems fishy to me that we were able to have our vehicle fixed with the same repair for half the cost. This strikes me as not only an obvious attempt to price gouge, but also an attempt to conceal their willingness to screw people over. We would not recommend this place to anyone, whether it be family or stranger. We are up and down the 35 corridor and with so many other options, this place is forever off the list

Total crooks had my car towed there for an estemate and they told me a number including the fluid i needed . It was way to high so i had it towed home and come to find out that the $1018 they want included the fluid that my car didnt need because my steering is electric took it to moose lake cist me 200 to fix there total idiots and the tow driver tore up my yard

Awful place of business. They didn't fix everything that was needed and charged a extremely high price, i believe because i wasn't a "local" and because we were stranded far from town. They actually damaged things on my car and won't fix them.

Just had the worst experience of my life with a service station, and I've been around a while. We brought our golf cart to Slim's Service cuz it wasn't running and they said they'd take a look at it, plenty of opportunity to tell us there was an $86 diagnostic fee, but no mention of the charge. Got a call the next day, they said it would cost $686 for repairs, we declined and said we couldn't afford it at this time. They said we owe $86 (surprise) for the diagnostic fee and the golf cart wouldn't be released until this is paid. NOT happy about this, but we went with our truck and trailer after a long days work to pay the fee, and pick up the golf cart, the owner "DAVE UBL" said, just one problem, the golf cart isn't here, it's at my house. WHAT?? Since when do people haul other people's property around without permission! Why to the house? He said they needed space in the garage, then why couldn't they just push it outside and tuck it around a corner. So, we said where is your house, we will go get it. NOPE, don't want to give you my address he said, you will have to wait until I'm done working at 7:00 and you can follow me there. It was 6:00 at the time. WHAT? WOW, what customer service. We decided to wait til 7:00 because we just wanted our property. At 6:50 he called and said darn, I just got a call from the state patrol and he needed to go on a tow. Told us we would have to WAIT until 8 or 8:30 to pick it up. STILL, would not let us go get the cart at his house. WHY IT WAS THERE I'LL NEVER KNOW. Then he offered to deliver it the next morning, but at this point we felt like this guy couldn't be trusted and didn't want him to come to our house, who knows if he would've come up with another reason not to deliver it. We called the local sheriff's department and got his address and went to the house. Told the deputy what was up in case there was confrontation. We called DAVE numerous, probably 6 times to tell him we were coming and he wasn't answering his phone, we drove out back, found him and our golf cart, loaded it up, and got the hell out!! He did not say a word. Unbelievable we just got home at 9:00 at night after all this inconvenience. How can you call yourself a SERVICE STATION!!! I don't believe the previous posts saying there was no charge. Go somewhere else if you actually want to be treated like a customer should.

My sister and I were on our way to Bayfield from Minneapolis when the Check Engine light turned on in my vehicle. We stopped at Slim’s for assistance, concerned about how long we would be delayed on our journey. In the time it took to explain the situation, Dave told me he’d look at my car immediately and handed me the keys to a golf cart so we could pop down to the nearby café while we waited. My stress melted away, and after a cup of coffee we were back on the road within the hour. Thanks so much, Dave! You turned an unexpected delay into a pleasant detour.
