LaFontaine Subaru has done right by me and my family. We LOVE LOVE LOVE our Subaru Forrester, and LOVED our Outback before that. Service has not been 100%, however. But, it’s not been terrible either, and I will continue to have my Subaru serviced at LaFontaine. I will simply have to pay closer attention to ALL the details and do my own follow-up. Not what I personally expect from any customer service, but I’ve noticed the past several years that this seems to be the case for many businesses - true customer service is a thing of the past. It’s unfortunate and businesses will suffer eventually because of it. Consumers will only put up with so much. For example, Williams Subaru, which is much closer to me, will NEVER EVER see me anywhere near their place of business. That dealership ought to be ashamed of the way they treat people! And you bet your bahookie I tell EVERYONE I meet about my shocking experience and all pretty much have the same response- SHOCK! And agree that they too will NEVER set foot in that dealership. Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising! You can’t take that away through lack of training.

This review is a long time coming. My parents and I tried leasing a Subaru Forrester from Jason Fox and his associate Nichole Dobbins at LaFontaine back in April/May. Key word: tried. We went to LaFontaine because of how close the dealership was to the house. First impressions seemed promising as Ms. Dobbins gave us a great quote in April but that's where the professionalism ended. Since we weren't able to pick up the car until the beginning of May due to our work schedules, Ms. Dobbins wouldn't be able to honor the lease that we agreed to in April. In order to honor the April agreement, we would have to pay a deposit to lock down the lease agreement. We paid the deposit to secure the agreement and pick up the car at the beginning of May but were then told by Mr. Fox and Ms. Dobbins that the vehicle would have to be signed for and picked up in April, regardless of the deposit that was paid earlier. Not only was this inconvenient but utter nonsense as the deposit worked to benefit both parties. Mr. Fox then sent a follow-up email to my mother concerned that her experience wasn't ideal. Per his words in the email--which we have--he wanted her to provide the "highest remarks" on the manufacturer's survey to be mailed out in a few weeks after car pickup. We didn't respond as the request was ridiculous. How we rate LaFontaine's service is up to our own discretion. Upon entering the dealership to sign and pick up the vehicle, my parents were confronted by Jason personally to ensure that he would get the highest remarks on the survey. Otherwise, he wasn't going to lease the vehicle to us. My parents demanded the deposit back and instead went to Glassman Automotive (a VERY positive experience). It's not like car dealers have a sterling reputation in general but Mr. Fox and Ms. Dobbins really brought it to new lows.

Dealing was Kaitlyn was a pleasant experience. For a new salesperson, she was knowledgeable and had a polite and professional manner. However, my experience with the business manager, Jorden, was not pleasant. He was interrogating me for why I was paying cash and not financing. He was picking at my every word. If I wanted advice on how to spend my money I'll see my financial planner! I actually had to say " leave me alone!" I felt very uncomfortable and just wanted get out of his office. Overall I'm satisfied with what I paid, but the experience as a whole leaves a lot to be desired.

It’s rare that you can say that the car purchasing experience is “fun” but the last few days have changed my mind. Just left with a 2019 outback (my 3rd) and I’m a convert to LaFontaine. Was introduced to svitlana “Lana” who was a delight to work with. Knowledgeable, professional, spunky, and with a contagious enthusiasm. Got a good deal on my trade in, and worked out great pricing on my new ride. Svitlana was very responsive and kept me in the loop with updates. An unexpected and fun bonus was a cute little movie she made of her taking the car off the market with a “sold” sign. Truly outstanding service and experience. After multiple let downs from other local dealers, feeling hopeless, I was able to come in to La Fontaine Subaru where I spoke with Nick Stacewicz. I informed him of my recent experiences and how I just wanted the real deal, no BS. I must say I was impressed because within 1 hour we had structured a great deal and my car was ordered to my spec. Nick kept me updated on the tracking info any time there was a change. Before I knew it, I had the perfect car and a great deal. He was never short on answering any of my questions and always had a great attitude. Overall experience was a breeze and they definitely set the example on how car buying should be. Had a warranty issue for a burned out headlamp, they suggested I drive for a week with one headlight out because they couldn't "squeeze me in" to take care of (what I consider) a safety issue. Suppose the other one burned out in that time? Am I supposed to drive with no lights? Wait to leave for work until it's light out? I just bought my first Subaru from them a year ago, I'm a new customer, now I'm moving on to a new Subaru dealer for maintenance. Oh, and good luck getting ANYONE in Parts/Service to return your call at any time. If the receptionist says "My pleasure" to transferring you to Lance or Scott in service, just hang up...it's the same result as if you left a message and requested a call back. You get none.

Kathy Chapman was a pleasure to work with. She found the perfect Subaru Outback in the color I wanted with all the options. I can't believe what a quiet smooth ride it is. The only other vehicle I've owned that rode this nice was my Cadillac. The new features on the outback awesome too. I've been taking my WRX to LaFontaine for its oil changes ever since I bought it and I've always received great service! The only time it took a while for a service advisor to help me, they gave me a discount on the service for making me wait, and I definitely felt that my time was valued. The past few times I've been, Lance has been my service advisor, and he's always very friendly and helpful with questions I have about the car/ services it might need. I've never gotten upsold on unnecessary services and they always explain what the car needs and why, so I feel very comfortable having my car worked on here. The 2 gripes that you might have with this place are that the wait time can tend to be longer than at a normal oil change shop, and that it tends to be a bit more expensive for the oil change. While these are true points, the peace of mind of knowing you're at a credible location might be worth it for you. The oil change for my car usually costs around $70-80, and the price for a full synthetic oil change at any normal oil change location wouldn't be much different, so it's worth it for me to come to LaFontaine. Make sure to check the website for service specials before you stop by (or at least before you check out), they often have coupons for the service you were planning to do anyway, and it's an easy way to save $10+, all you have to do is show it to your service advisor on your phone.

Was looking for a quality used car for my teenage daughter. Made numerous inquiries about a favorably advertised 2002 Subaru Outback on their lot before taking the 45-minute drive to see it in person. I arrived and only then noticed that the vehicle was classified by the dealership itself as “unsafe to drive.” Somehow they failed to mention this little detail over the phone. I thought that the Subaru brand name meant this was something more than a sleazy used car dealership. We never stop learning.

I would have been happy to rate this dealership 5 stars if it weren't for the problems I experience after I bought the car. I signed the mechanic worksheet that said the car was in great shape mechanically. But as soon as I got the car home I started having problems. I took it back and they said they "fixed" the problem. However it just got worse. Then I took it to a dealership closer to me and they want 1400 in repairs! Needless to say I'm upset and they won't return my calls. I have left a message and called 4 times. They have not called back do not buy a used car here. Other than that when I bought the car the staff was friendly and not pushy at all. But these issues ruined my experience.

I knew it was time to visit LaFontaine Subaru after my husband came home with the biggest smile on his face and a beautiful Crosstrek, raving about his experience with Nick Stacewicz. The little hike from Ann Arbor was well worth it. I arrived with hesitation, not sure if I was ready to pull the plug and with only a narrow idea of what car might be best for me. I not only left with the dream car, a 2019 Forester (pictured) I didn't know I would love so much, but also with a very happy -- also very picky -- dad who plans to return to Nick for his next car (and very first Subaru)! They changed stealership to dealership. I am usually one to fix things myself and never take a vehicle back to a dealership. I reluctantly took my Forester in for service, to my surprise they said it will be quick, I waited, before I knew it they came to the waiting room to tell me they figured out which sensor it was and it was an easy fix and since I did the other one myself, they pointed it out to me. Then to my amazement, no charge. I am impressed by their level of customer service that I'll for sure be back in the future.

My first experience with the dealership and my first Subaru. I ordered the 2015 Outback. There wasn't one on the lot that met my needs. I was informed it would take 6 weeks prior to ordering. The sales staff was quite pleasant and professional. The financing process was painless! Delivery of the vehicle was almost 6 weeks exactly. I was kept informed with 2 or 3 phone calls during that time which gave me production updates. The car was prepped while I finished up the financial paperwork and we did a thorough inspection/walk through before I drove off. Running through this rough winter in the Outback was a dream. I love my new vehicle and when this one is done, I'll be back in for another Subaru. Don't know why I didn't own one sooner. Good vehicle, good experience at the dealer.

We were not happy with our experience with the purchase of our used Subaru at LaFontaine recently. We were told (by the salesman's Supervisor) we would be receiving the factory warranty due to the salesman telling us (by mistake) that the car we were buying was a Certified used car. We got the notice in the mail that there was an additional $3,300.00 added to our purchase for that warranty. When my wife talked to the Manager he said the Salesman's Supervisor did not tell us that indicating that we were lying and trying to get the warranty for free. The Manager did offer to pay 50% of the warranty for the misunderstanding but we declined. If this dealership had treated us this way with the warranty we would not want them working on the car. We do like the car so am keeping it but we will not go back to that dealership or recommend it to family or friends.

Kathy Chapman is A++. Rather than just sell us a car she asked us why we were looking, what we were looking for and took an interest in "our story". Once she learned we have 2 young kids and 2 dogs she pointed out features of the Subaru Outback that might be attractive to us. They will allow for vehicles to be listed as available for a test drive, knowing that it hasn't passed inspiration or is safe to drive, just to get you inthe door. I had a VERY BAD experience with Matthew David, the Sales Representative. Based on what I went through I would NEVER lease a car from here again. I met with Matthew one month before my lease turn in. I went over everything that I wanted and he promised me that my new lease would have all of my previous options. I took a quote in from another dealership for a $12,000 for a 36 month lease on a 2019 Forester. The 2020 Forester leases were out at that time but I wanted a 2019. So Matthew tells me that the 2019 Forester went up an additional $3,000. At that time I should have walked out. I wanted to pay the lease up front but he said that if I was in an accident and totalled the vehicle that I would be out that money and without a vehicle because I totalled it, just another lie. My auto insurance representative said that wasn't true. When I finally got my new Forester I didn't have the remote start which was a feature on my previous 2017 Forester. Also, I looked over my paperwork at home within days and noticed that my down payment was not subtracted from the total amount that I paid for the final lease. Then I was billed from my previous 2017 lease from Chase Bank which had been paid in full. They didn't turn in my previous odometer lease statement until August 5th when I purchased my new lease on 7-23-2019. Then I receive a call from a policeman that my 2017 Forester was in an accident. I told him that I turned that vehicle into LaFontaine dealership on 7-23-2019 (1 week and a half earlier). The policeman said that someone must have stolen the license plate from their lot and placed them on another vehicle. This is just a short summary of some of the things that happened to me. Moral of the story get everything in writing and I definitely don't recommend Matthew David. He is only interested in stuffing his pockets without any integrity. On the other hand Rachel is a great customer service adviser. I would recommend this dealership based on her service alone. The service department in general is awesome.

I was very happy with my purchase here. Joe was very helpful and motivated to get me into the car I wanted. I was very pleased to hear that they replaced the tires and breaks on my car before letting me leave the dealership. They even provided a full detail of the car free of charge which was great. I will say that the following two things about my service here: I was told the dealership was in agreement with me in selling the car for $15,000 out the door. This made me very happy, I'd be leaving the dealership with my dream car at my dream price. Due to having a verbal agreement, I didn't pay much attention to the finance forms that I signed. This was my mistake. If I would have looked at it closer, I would have noticed an extra $400+ that was tacked on. If I would have seen this I would not have signed the rest of the forms until further negotiations were made. I would also like to say plan to set aside an afternoon if you're looking to buy a car here. Subaru is a very popular brand which makes this dealership very busy. They did the very best they could to get me in and out, but theres only so much they can do when there's a ton of people in the store looking for a new car. Overall, I had a great experience. There were just the two issues about the my experience.

Good brand, but pushy sales team. Being a sales and a technical person, the last thing you want to hear is someone trying to over sell. Also the sales manager asked my girlfriend (white) if she was with me (brown, Indian) by choice. This was the rudest statement I’ve heard. Then talked for good 20-30 mins, before we got to the actual paperwork. Long story short, it’s a good brand, a great car, gives you everything you need in a car, but the need to stick to their business and not people’s personal lives.

Inquired about a used car posted on their site and was told it was in their lot and available to test drive the same day. We booked an appointment with a rep and immediately made the drive out. On the way, we received an additional 2 emails confirming this and then a phone call. When we arrived, the rep who we had the appointment with was fairly rude from the start, and made us wait 30+ minutes while they seemed to make/complete another sale. When they finally walked over to us, they just said “I can’t find the car, we share our used stock with other locations.” Hardly the answer we were led to expect. We waited about 15 more minutes, with no guidance or support from any staff, and the rep eventually returned and informed us that the car truly wasn’t there. They didn’t even seem to care. When asked why we were told *four times* it was on site and ready to test drive, he said he “saw it about 2 days ago.” When asked if whatever location it was moved to had it available, or if we could go to that location, the rep said he had no idea and that they simply couldn’t help us. The reality was that they couldn’t be bothered to check their stock and just lied from the start. We wasted over 3 hours driving there and waiting for a car that wasn’t even there. Easily the worst customer service and lack of any professionalism I’ve seen at a dealership. That said, the New Vehicles area (entirely separate building, which was beautiful) seemed well run. It was very clean, the reps and the person who seemed to be the manager were polite, apologized, and seemed professional. Their used car building and atmosphere was the exact opposite. It felt like an entirely separate business. Went to a few other dealerships and found a similar model of the same make at a much better price, with less mileage and better history. It was actually in their lot, the rep was helpful and knowledgeable, so they made the sale!

This is the second time in 3 months that LaFontaine has blown me off. I called a few months ago about my headlights being out due to a Subaru issue and was told then that they couldn't get me in for a couple days. So I went to Glassman Subaru and had it repaired that day. I left a review for LaFontaine... The maintenance person Scott called me and gave me a whole monologue about how I should call his line directly, and to save his number, and they would love an opportunity to service my vehicle again to correct the issue...so a few weeks ago when I was taking my car in for my oil change, I called Scott, left a message asking about a tire rotation. Never got a call back. I figured "Ok, people are busy, I can always just ask when I'm there" and took my car in for an oil change. No issue there. Now, this morning, my dashboard starting flashing and lighting up with my Brake warning, traction control, Check Engine light, and my cruise control flashing. I called LaFontaine, spoke with Cindy who answered the phone and asked to speak to someone in service- I specifically said service and explained I wanted to know if I should be driving my car or have it towed, etc. She said "Yup, I'll transfer to appointments, hold". Then I sat...listening to a ringing phone...with no answer. So I hung up and called Glassman again, they transferred me right to service, I spoke to someone there who gave me advice and worked to get my car in for service. I didn't bother calling Scott, he didn't even call me back to confirm my last tire rotation. If you want to purchase a car, this place was great. But for anything after that, forget it. My oil change 3 weeks ago was the last time I'll visit LaFontaine. It looks like LaFontaine only comments on positive reviews, so I doubt I'll hear anything back, and even if I did, I'll provide them the same courtesy they did me with a ringing phone.

I'm not really huge on leaving reviews, but I just felt compelled to do one for these guys. I had a truly pleasant experience buying my WRX from LaFontaine Subaru. I was greeted promptly by the salesman, Nicholas Stacewicz, and he patiently chatted with me about what I was looking for. He made a couple recommendations (Impreza and Crosstrek), and even let me demo the Impreza over the weekend as a long-term test drive! That alone helped me realize that he was the person I wanted to buy a car from. I didn't end up buying the Impreza, but as I mentioned earlier a WRX, and he accommodated multiple test drives for me to come to the final decision. He never pushed me or made me feel any pressure or urgency whatsoever, and was prompt in his replies via email and text. Nick even negotiated on my behalf to fix a couple minor pieces of damage on the WRX at LaFontaine's expense (it was a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle). I can't recommend these guys enough. If you're even remotely thinking of looking at a Subaru, make SURE you go in and ask for Nicholas Stacewicz at LaFontaine. I know when it comes time to trade up my WRX for the STI, I'll be going to see him. No question! And LaFontaine Subaru, do whatever you can to hang on to Nicholas - he's a rare asset that you should shower with appreciation whenever you can!

I got fast and efficient service. The buying experience, was sluggish, but that’s the fault of the finance companies. I left with a fully loaded 17 Outback 2.5L Limited w/ Eyesight (formerly a dealer loaner). Certified Used, around 6,000 miles, with the original warranty and an extended warranty at half the normal cost, plus gap. With the sizable discount on the Outback, it nullified the negative equity in my 13 Chevy. Working with Jeremy, Adam, and David was excellent, the customer service was great. Further, they diligently worked with the finance company to get me the best deal, with limited credit inquiries. The Outback is amazing, comfortable, and has every feature I could want and more.

They don’t honor the prices on their website. I was working with Your Local Car Guys on finding a used car (that was a whole other nightmare) They showed me a Honda CR-V that was advertised on lafontaines website for a special price. I test drove it and decided to buy it. They were supposed to bring the paperwork and car to my work so I could sign and be on my way but the paperwork was not right. Not only was my 4 thousand dollar down payment shorted by a grand on the paperwork, the price was almost 2 grand more than I agreed to pay. Your local car guys left the car with me and called the manager to have the paperwork fixed. Days passed and they finally brought what was supposed to be the correct paperwork back. Nope...wrong again! So I called the manager directly and his response was he would never sell the car to me at the price it was listed for on the website. The website was apparently a mistake and he didn’t know why it was on there at that price. So not purchasing that car would have either left me carless or if I bought it I would be stuck with car payments I never agreed on. The managers solution to the problem was to try to sell me an over priced piece of junk at a “discounted” price to replace the Honda they had been falsely advertising on their website. He kept offering to “help me in anyway he could” but offered no actual solution to the problem that they caused. So now I’m sitting on their sidewalk trying to find a ride home, with my daughters car seat, with no way to get my kids to school and no way to get to my job tomorrow which is 45 miles away from my house (one way). I’ve been a manager for over 6 years and I would never put my customers in this situation. I asked to speak to the general manager btw and never heard from him or her either.

The minute we drove off the lot, we discovered that there was a Mikey on our Ford. They can't do anything for us. Then, my daughter after 3 weeks of driving the used vehicle, has a bubble in her Tire. Called on Saturday, can't do anything until Monday. So disgusted by this place I can't say anything good about it. This is a sham. They assured me, that they do awesome service on their cars and they are totally safe. How is a bubble in the tire safe? How is a My Key not detected? Will never ever, tell anyone to go to this place. If I could give it to 0 Starz I would.

My husband and I spoke to a used car salesman on a used car today and our experience wasnt even in the slightest pleasant. First off, we live over an hour away so everything was being done over the phone. we called and spoke to a man and the asking price online and over the phone was 4543. we negotiated WITH that salesman to 4200 out the door but said he had to speak with his manager. We did not hear back for about an hour, all the while sitting at our credit union due to them closing at 1 and needing this done before then. The manager then proceeds to tell us that the out the door price was 5200 dollars. We tried negotiating and they came down 80 dollars to 5120. We stated that you have wiggle room and that is all your going to work with us on , it is a 15 year old car that top Nada value is 4500 dollars, and during that statement we were UNPROFFESIONALLY interrupted by man, I think his name was Bob and at that point rudely said it's a 5000 dollar car take it or leave it. We said keep the car and hung up. Now I've worked for dealerships my whole life and this disgusts me so much that customers are getting treated this way! This is not only unproffesional, but is also very displeasing to see business being handled as such, and the employees that we worked with should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone should be aware of how business is being done at this establishment and unfortunately we will be telling everyone we know and work with not to give Lafontaine Subaru ANY business. They do not even deserve the 1 star I had to give them to post this review

Wanted my parents (senior citizens) to get a new, extremely safe car. Research indicated Subaru Outback hit all the checkboxes for safety. Tried to shop in our town but the sales people in our local dealer tried to play games ("we can't get the car you want" ... how about this one instead?) and weren't willing to budge on pricing (we only wanted certain options and weren't willing to pay extra for options that we didn't want just because they were on the [available] car already). My Mom called around and Joe P. at LaFontaine Subaru took her call, found the car she wanted (wow, same exact car [same VIN!] that our local dealer said that they couldn't get for us), negotiated a very fair price (they charged almost nothing for the options that we didn't want), and we took receipt of the car 3 days later. We could not have asked for a better buying experience! No games, up front pricing, a willingness to negotiate, and extremely friendly and helpful service. I recommend this dealership to everyone because 1) Subaru has great ratings for safety, 2) Subaru vehicles have great resale value, and 3) the buying experience at this dealership was EXCELLENT.

My experience with LaFontaine Subaru has been poor in all respects. The sales team did not come close to meeting my expectations for finding a car, and I purchased a new Forrester from a Subaru dealership 45 mins away. That was a year and a half ago. I came back for an oil change for convenience. I was told I need brakes and rotors on my 35K mile Forrester. I had second opinion with Belle Tire who I have used and trusted in the past. Bob inquired of our price range and he informed us he has some vehicles that would meet our needs. We agreed to return the next morning to drive some cars. When we arrived Friday Bob greeted us with keys in his hand saying 'I have the perfect vehicle for you." He walked us back into the lot and showed us this vehicle. Told us it just came out of the service check and is perfect and READY to go for us and that we should take it for a test drive. We did drive it and it seemed good except we did hear a ticking coming from the engine. So we drove it down to our car guy in downtown Walled Lake and he immediately took it for a ride and put it on the lift. He then asked if we wanted to just take it back or see what was wrong with it. He showed us a steady stream of oil leaking from a hose in front of the front driver's wheel and all the remnants of oil all over the engine. He also showed us the "ticking" we were hear ing was the A/C motor which was intermittently cutting in and out, obviously in need of replacement. At that point, I had seen enough and we returned to the dealership. Bob met us in the lot and asked what we thought. We told him we really liked it and then verified that it had gone through service and was completely ready to be sold. Again Bob confirmed that it been given a completely clean bill of health and that was the only reason he had the keys. I once again asked him that if there was ANYTHING wrong with the vehicle his mechanic would have caught it and it would have been repaired, correct? He once again emphatically told me that this car was in PERFECT condition. At this point, I told him what my mechanic found and asked Bob how HIS mechanic could miss two things that we so blatantly obvious and through the repeated clearing of his throat and stammering he said, "well, perhaps this one hadn't been through service yet." Excuse me??!!! Then he had the audacity to tell me that when we took possession, all these items would be addressed. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I did learn that Bob has been in the car sales business for 29 years and this was his 3rd or 4th stint at this particular dealership. when asked why all the movement, he told us that he had some personality difficulties in the past. This is the problem with working with car dealers. They are trying to make a buck and hit a quota. no regard for the customer. Guys like Bob are the shining example of the dealership. As someone who has been in sales for over 20 years, this is no way to run any business. We walked out in disgust even though we were really interested in purchasing a Subaru. Shopping for and buying a vehicle would certainly be much better if you didn't have to work with car salesmen. Brian B

01-Nov: I have sent tons of emails, called more than 5 times but the sales staff here is not interested in either returning my calls nor responding to emails. I was lucky to find a lady on the phone after 5 phone calls. She promised to revert with requested details. Then, nothing. Other dealerships have been much better.
