Well, it's now a year later and I STILL think AMC is the top-notch operation that it was when I reviewed it a year ago. This year, the post-storage work on my 1996 BMW 328i convertible was scheduled, and as always it was done correctly and on time. The same day I took the BMW there I also retrieved from winter storage my 1986 Alfa Spider. Despite working fine when I put it into storage last November, it would not stay running this spring. So, after a tow job to AMC and despite how booked they already were, Bruce and team were able to get it in, diagnose the problem and fix it. They also took care of a couple of other, minor issues I had been having. I am particularly impressed with how AMC diagnoses and corrects problems: rather than take the easy way our of replacing all the potential and expensive parts immediately, they take a step-by-step approach to the diagnostics/repair/replacement. Much less expense to the customer. But of course this only works when a company has sufficient technical talent to accomplish that. AMC has abundant talend, they treat their customers well and are the best when it comes to communicating with the customer and explaining alternatives. I could not be more pleased. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Atlantic Motorcar has been the principal facility to maintain my 1996 BMW 328ic last year and this year. I continue to be impressed by, and appreciate, their technical knowledge, customer service attitude (very rare these days) and the "go the extra mile" approach. I plan on taking my 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider to them for some work soon. They are a welcome alternative to high dealer prices and robotic personnel at many dealerships whose interest in the customer experience is largely nonexistant. I unreservedly recommend Atlantic Motorcar.

Probably the best car service/repair experience ever. I've finally found "my car guy". I experienced a large fluid leak under my MercedesSLK320. This is a seasonal car which is seldomly driven. I placed several calls to specialty repair centers closer to home but no one spent anytime with me and the soonest appointments were 7-10 days. Then I called Atlantic Motor Cars. Bruce, the owner, spent at least 20 minutes listening to me and trying to understand what was going on. He had several insights and was extremely knowledgeable on the date of the appointment, they picked the car up from my home at the agreed time in the morning. Throughout the day, I was sent pictures of the findings. Bruce's intuition was correct and the faulty O-ring and electrical harness were replaced. When the repairs and "preventive maintenance" were complete, the car was driven back to my home. The car was washed and vaccuumed as well. There is also a loyalty program which gave me 2% back in credit for our next service. I've driven a few hundred miles over the past week, and the car is running great and no more fluid leak. A few days later, a thank you card and a few brownies arrived. Will be going to Atlantic Motorcars for my Mercedes care from now on.

They are very thorough to diagnose my completely ‘idle’ car. They also have the computer diagnostic tools that other auto repair shop don’t have. Bruce is very knowledgeable and very good at explaining the issues with the car. They checked everything and repaired them. I am very impressed with the results!

I took my 80K mile 2011 BMW 328xi in while I was on vacation, due to what I thought was an alignment problem due to a pothole. It had also been smelling somewhat like oil, though as it had been recently "repaired" where I live, I thought nothing of it. As I walked Bruce through the issues, he suggested Nick take it for a ride with me. Nick's spidey senses told him to take a look, and as I waited for my "show and tell", I had no idea what to expect. As Bruce and Nick took me into the garage, they gave me the most thorough in-depth look at my vehicle I have ever had. The transparency they showed me, knowing this would be a significant repair of not only the wheel, but the guts of the car, was incredible. Over the next week, on a daily basis either Nick or Will called me to update me on the repair, and the price. It was truly exceptional customer service. When I got the vehicle back, it was like I had a car with 15 miles on it. The service team at AMC definitely bought me at least 100K more miles, under the utmost professional of services. I HIGHLY recommend AMC and the team under Bruce to any resident, or vacationer of the southern to mid-coast Maine area, and would follow by recommending any shop in your area that Bruce Howes recommends. This is truly a team of exceptional service members, both from quality and personality.

For years, until we found Atlantic Motorcar, we were frustrated by the poor maintenance service we were experiencing. Then a few years ago someone told us about Atlantic Motorcar and we were hooked. Friendly service and great work. I have been going to Atlantic Motorcar for about 2 years now, after switching from a major dealership that didn't really seem to care about me. Atlantic Motorcar has been such a refreshing change, they listen to what I am saying and explain things in a way that makes sense. Often they will take me into the work area and show me the condition of my car and what needs to be repaired. Their waiting area is comfortable, and they have a great fleet of loaner cars. The best part is during my last service, the service manager delivered my car directly to my house when my 65k mile service was done. Talk about service! I feel fortunate to have such a great team of people working on my car.

Just wanted to let other people know that my experience with Atlantic Motorcar Center last summer was by far the best automotive customer care I have ever received, and it may be the best customer service I’ve experienced period. My kids and I drove from New York to Maine for a summer camping trip in our beloved 1978 Land Rover Santana. On the second day, my car came to grinding (literally) halt and we thought our precious vacation time was over. After frantic googling I found Atlantic and had my car towed there in the evening while I sorted a last minute hotel for my family. I spoke to Bruce on the phone in the morning and despite his busy schedule, he had my car on a lift, diagnosed (blown rear diff) in less than an hour. He even took a video of the broken components and made a detailed presentation to explain to me exactly what went wrong. I found this extraordinary and it really helped put us back on the road quickly to complete and enjoy our family camping vacation. Keep in mind, my car is a 40 year old relic from Europe that was never released in the US. Bruce knew the car inside and out and was quickly and professionally able to diagnose the problem. What’s more, in the midst of our drama, he took additonal time to chat with my kids and give them some small gifts of balsa toy gliders to keep them happy while we figured out the car situation. Thanks again and I sincerely hope that anyone who needs an auto repair will find this shop. FYI, I was not surprised to see that an entire wall of the customer waiting area was plastered with similar thank you and appreciation notes from many other satisfied customers. These guys know how to do business the right way.

Was petrified about getting my two Volvos serviced when we moved to Midcoast Maine 3 years ago, thinking we would be sentenced to the 140 mi round trip to Portland. After driving past Atlantic Motorcars multiple times, and a recommendation by an acquaintance we decided to give them a try. I have nothing but great things to say about Bruce, Scott and the entire crew there in our dealings over the past 3 years. Their loaner car and valet services, and free wifi, making car service easy and convenient. All work is done well and they stand behind it. In one instance, I got caught up in a vicious cycle of "feeding" Pirelli tires to my car since that tire wasn't designed with Maine roads in mind. Bruce gave me a credit on two relatively new tires, allowing me to switch over to a complete set of Michelins which are far better suited to local roads and are exhibiting appropriate wear. Having had such good experiences with Atlantic Motorcars service, we turned to them to buy a used Volvo this past summer and as expected, we were delighted with all aspects of the purchase, as well as the car itself. They've expanded their service expertise to most European cars so I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone in the Midcoast region to check them out for both their excellent service and used car sales.

Recently, I decided to put one of these cars on the market for sale and AMC placed the car for sale on my behalf. Honest diagnosis and service. During the multi point inspection as a new customer the service tech found that the transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant all needed to be serviced. At a 120,000 miles that would be expected. Here's the twist. 2,500 miles previously all of the fluids were supposed to have been changed by an Acura dealer and I paid for that to be done. Both Bruce and his service tech provided me with the information to go back to the dealer and present to them evidence that resulted in a refund of the services not previously performed. Where else would you get this kind of support and follow through. Thank you, Bruce and Atlantic!

I will say the work done at Atlantic Motorcar is top notch. everything was fixed and they were very knowledgeable about my BMW and other German vehicles. That being said, I do believe that if you are not carful they will try to fix anything and everything even if it isn't broken. Not the place you want to go to if you have an actual budget. In fact I had my brake system flushed under their recommendations which was fine. I then had my next service 2 months later because I drive a lot. They charged me another couple hundred dollars to do the exact same service again. I just didn't notice it at the time until I went to sell the car and was reviewing the service history. It was nicely hidden within the $3600 service total. They will push things on you that you don't need, and it will cost you dearly. As one of the other reviews stated, they will insist on doing something, whether or not you agree or desire it. Sometimes we all have a budget and offering a credit card as a solution to pay for a single $3,600 service is not the answer. Again your car will be pampered to no end, but its not a place for the middle class to get service done at. The BMW dealership will cost you much less.

I recently brought car into shop because of intermittent blinking of ABS warning light. Cause was not determined. I was found to require front end ball joints based on play in vehicle while in motion. That play had been there for years and thankfully was found to be present on a visit for another reason. They are thorough by doing a complete inspection before starting any repairs and addressing all issues during the service visit. For that reason, we have a trouble free driving experience between routine maintenance visits. We owned Saabs, Hondas, and now VW TDI's, and each car has been well maintained by Atlantic Motorcar. They are very accommodating by offering a loaner, and their lounge is comfortable if you choose to wait. The work area is immaculate and demonstrates real pride in what they do. I have taken my cars to Atlantic Motor Car since 2005. These include a BMW 5 Series, Toyota 4Runner, Volvo 240. Nissan 240SX, and most recently the 2009 Volvo XC70 that I purchased from Atlantic MC four years ago. During all my visits with these cars I have found the service excellent and the staff extremely courteous and helpful. Two weeks ago, under the pressure of having to transport a house guest to the airport, the check engine light appeared on the XC70's dashboard the night before we were to drive to the airport. The next morning, I got up early and drove to Atlantic MC, obviously without an appointment. Frank, the service advisor, received me warmly, got the car into the shop, had the technician attach the OBDII diagnostic equipment to the car, and determined that the fuel rail pressure sensor had died. BUT, not only was the diagnosis made quickly, Frank said that he actually had a new sensor in stock! The technician replaced the old, faulty sensor with the new one, and I was back on the road within the hour, in plenty of time to get our houseguest to the airport for the flight home. Lest you think that this courtesy was extended to me because I am a regular customer, you should see the numerous letters of thanks on the bulletin board in the waiting room at Atlantic MC. Many of them are from visitors to our area who ran into car problems and had their cars repaired in a timely manner such as not to have their visits wrecked by car problems This is the kind of care and service rarely found and very uncommon in today's world. Thank you Frank and thank you Bruce for being there when needed and going the extra mile.

Anyone who rates this dealership at anything under five stars has not been to many dealerships before. This was, without a doubt, the best experience I have had in my life when buying a car. My wife and I were looking for a vehicle for our dogs to replace our Honda Ridgeline, which was a bit cramped in the back. We decided on a used Toyota Highlander. After dealing with a couple of the big dealerships in the Portland area, who seemed pushy and of questionable moral fiber, we looked elsewhere and found a Highlander at Atlantic Motorcar. We made an appointment for the next morning, and Dave was there to help us. He drove the car up and went through the basics, no pushiness whatsoever. When he was done, he answered a couple of our questions before allowing us to test drive the vehicle by ourselves, which gave us the freedom to discuss the purchase. We decided we wanted the car. I had also done research on how much our trade-in would be worth, but was fully aware that , based on experience, those ranges that you find online usually don't work out the way you want them to at the dealership. We decided we would offer the asking price for the Highlander as long as they paid us what we owed on our Ridgeline. If not, we were fully prepared to walk. Weren't we impressed when Dave said that our trade-in was worth over $600 more than we owed! This had never happened to me before. So naturally, we bought the car. Dave was so easy and pleasant to deal with, even during the hellish paperwork process. We were provided with the 3 month warranty, but Dave said to call him if anything came up with the car in the meantime to call him and he would drive out a loaner, an hour away! We love the car so far. Dave, thank you so much for an amazing buying experience. And to people out there, LOOK FOR YOUR CAR AT THIS DEALERSHIP! You will not be disappointed, it may be a little out of the way, but it is worth it. In this age of ripoffs and scams, it is so nice to know that there are still good, honest businesspeople out there. If I could give them more than five stars, I would!

I have been taking my BMWs to Atlantic Motorcar for over 10 years. This time it was for a spring "tune-up" and exchanging my snow tires for my summer tires. During the process they discovered a loose ball joint (so THAT'S where that clunking was coming from) and also felt that the opposing ball joint was starting to go. Replacing both at once saved me down time and also the cost of a 2nd wheel alignment. Also during this "tune-up" they discovered a very slight water leak from the thermostat, which they replaced at no charge, since it was under their automatic 2-year service warranty. These are just the most recent examples of their ability to find and fix problems before they cause me problems. We have a Lexus Rx 300 2001 with 120k+ miles. We have been bringing our car to AMC for the last few years and we are satisfied with their work. Fixing anything mechanical can be frustrating to both the car owner and the repair facility. I have yet to find the perfect -100%- correct -every time -garage. However, AMC, has taken good care of us and our car multiple times. Bruce and staff have listened to us and have been fair when we voice concerns. We will continue to use AMC. The shop, front office, and waiting area is very clean and comfortable. They have also sent us to Lexus when they know they can't solve the issue. That's not a fun thing to turn away business, although, we like the honesty. Don't hesitate to take your car to AMC, we won't!

Sales manager Dave told me it’s not something they usually do other than for the cars they prepare for sale. I’ve been getting my cars service at Atlantic Motors for awhile now and has had good service ever since. I’ve had two cars go through them and they did their job but after the experience I’ve had with them today, I’m having second thoughts. However, today I called when they open around 9am to make only a service appointment for my Mercedes. I wanted to schedule a week ahead and everything was going well until they had noted that the camshaft plugs needed to be replaced on my vehicle. Now, You can buy camshaft plugs for under 20$ and replace them yourself because of the tons of tutorials. I replaced the plugs myself because of the hefty 400$ labor charge so I told them that I did it myself. I wasn’t upset about the price at all but better to do it yourself. This is what made it very upsetting. After telling the person on the line that I replaced it myself, the person on the phone said ”Are you a mechanic?” In a tone like he thought I was some sort of idiot, right after I said I did it myself. Now, Bruce usually answers the phone the last few times but he didn’t today. After I said no I wasn’t a mechanic, the person on the line said that I should just do the service that the vehicle needs since I was a “Certified Mechanic”. Very unprofessional and uncalled for. This experience today was absolutely upsetting because I’ve never had a problem with Atlantic Motors but ever since the disrespectful conversation on the line has made me view their values a little bit different. I will no longer be doing business with them no longer.

I have an aging VW Van that I refuse to relinquish because it such a part of my family. I have been bringing my "baby" to Atlantic Motorcar Center for several years now and I just couldn't be happier. Scott is unfailingly polite and helpful when it comes to discussing the nuances of my car's problems and issues. If the problem persists after their repair-they are very open to reviewing the repair and fixing whatever needs to be remedied. They never look askance at me when I park my van next to another customer's luxury vehicle (!)--and they always accommodate my needs (whether it involves providing me a loaner, letting me hang out in the waiting area with my kids/neighbor's kids in tow), or listening to me rhapsodize about my car's virtues. Their prices might be a bit higher than those of the "guy who is a friend of a friend", but I know that I am getting my money's worth--I wouldn't trust my van to anyone else in Maine. Someday I hope to purchase a VW TDI Wagen-and when I do, I know just who to bring it to for TLC....

A previously diagnosis by another service provider indicated that a particular component had failed and the repair would be $XXX. Atlantic Motorcar investigated and found the issue was related but not as severe nor as expensive. My Mini-Cooper was ready in less than 24 hours at 1/3 the previous service provider's quoted price. Foreign manufactured automobiles require specially trained technicians and particular diagnostic tools. Don't take your car to a service provider who might be guessing at what the problem is and how to fix it. Although I am appreciative of the Atlantic Motorcar parts and labor guarantee, I am more appreciative of a service provider that knows what they are doing and gets it done right the first time.
