I was looking for a valuable vehicle that I could get at an affordable price, and I was basically told that I am a cheap man and then I was told to leave.

After some negotiation, I bought a 2005 Mazda MPV for about $4,000 with 122K miles on it. A fair price considering the age and features. It was not a perfect car, but I am happy with my experience. The sales person was helpful. I took about 3 day to make my decision and then went for a test drive. The MPV was clean and had very little rust on the body, but the undercarriage did have rust and the muffler exhaust looked like it was about to go. The engine sounded like it was having issues, but the check engine light was not on. After i purchased it, I started getting P0302 cylinder-2 misfire check engine codes every day. Fuel mileage was 12 MPG, 1/2 what it should be and the engine would stumble. However, to make a long story "short", the reason I wanted this particular minivan was that I already owned a 2005 MPV, which I had purchased new in '05 new. It had just died an untimely death after 246K miles. I really liked this model which was discontinued in 2006. The engine on my old MPV had overheated due to a problem with the Fan Control Module. I watched it climb to the max of the gauge reading until it smoked and died. The mechanic said $2,500 for a used engine, but my MPV rusty and had other issues. Buying a used MPV allowed me to salvage parts before I junked the old one. Since I bought this MPV, I have learned how to do my own maintenance on my car. Not everything I did was needed, but I wanted to know it was as good as new. I changed the fuel injectors, plugs and boots myself. That fixed my check engine misfires. I now get 22 MPG and it purrs like new. I also super-cleaned the engine of any crud to make it look showroom ready. I replace my own brake pads and rear discs with the best parts I could find. I then order parts online and had Meineke install new shocks, struts and an exhaust system. Amazon parts saves lots of bucks. I took everything good from the old minivan and put it on the replacement MPV where needed, including my tow package and aftermarket DVD receiver. I changed all of my own fluids for the first time and and am keeping a maintenance log for this car. After spending an additional $2,500 and driving it 20K miles, I love this "new" MPV. I just dove it on a 1,200 mile road trip with no problems. I hope to keep it for at least the next 6-10 years. I also rust-proofed the under-body, because, this car does rust if you don't. I know this post is more about me and my car than the dealer, but when buying a used car, know what you are getting. The salesman is there to sell. I am very happy with my purchase! Wish me luck.

Father son duo with no credibility or sense of honesty. I am so thankful we did our financing through a reputable bank so they could catch Shafer blatantly lying to us about the condition of the car and sketchy title work. These guys are trying to move cars with a whole lot of ego and lack of care and responsibility to the people they are selling to.

Squeak Promatic

We went there to buy a car. We were treated very well. They were very up front and honest. We bought the cheapest car on the lot. We immediately took it for tune ups and basic maintenance. They even helped by replacing a battery for us for 50$ we were expecting to pay much more because we were purchasing a foreign older model car. They never took advantage of us like some car sales places. I am pleased with my experience and when we need another vehicle we will return to them. A big thank you to them !

I took time during the day to head over to American Imports. I had planned to have a pre-sales check over on the vehicle and take it to my mechanic. I called ahead to confirm, and I was told this was not a problem. This was not the case. When I walked in, the gentleman sitting in back didn't act responsive or interested to answer questions. The younger gentlemen matched the reviews you read online - the way he speaks and interacts off smug, deceitful and unprofessional. I would recommend to look elsewhere in your search.

Dawn Barach

Pay attention to the reviews! They will not let a car go offsite to a mechanic ... bad enough but when I asked for a carfax, they refused. Offered to let me pay for it myself. Not at all concerned ... arrogant is an understatement!!

Terry Markgraf

Always good service and friendly staff, not truing to sell you stuff you do not really need, I will definitely go back. The service Manager Mary is very knowledgeable and friendly.

What's the difference between a 5 star and 1 star rating? $540.35 or getting home after buying a vehicle to realize the "salesman" sold it for $500 over the online advertised sale price. The "salesman" who when asked the price never provided the lower figure but was willing to offer it for $495 under $1,000 over the listed price. How much do we feel like fools? Jeff Cork is a true credit to the stigma that is a "Used Car Salesman". Save yourself some money and shop elsewhere, American Imports got extra from us.

Horrible horrible horrible. Called to check that the car I wanted to look at was there they stated it was, arrived there and one of the employees took it out to grocery shop, so I waited over 20 minutes for them to return. Took the car around the block to a mechanic I knew, open the hood and it was so rusted, it was a 2008. Checked transmission fluid it was burnt, then in the way back to the shop and it missed a shift. Told the gentleman that we were going to pass. He questioned why, I reported that it just wasn't for me, he started arguing that it was a good car so I informed him of the fluid and missing a shift, he responded that was wrong he just drove it. Rude people!

Bad experience every. They just selling cars from auction without fixing them. I brought a car this Monday April 23, 2018 the car start shaking in the next day. There’s a lick on it too. I went to advance auto parts put the car on Computer . They say it’s a transmission problem. That’s really sad cause I was trying to get a job ,I brought it now I have to fix the car before I get that job. I have no more money. Wawww

I was nervous to buy my first car and I had been looking online for what felt like an eternity. I was warmly greeted by the staff and a cute pup! They really listened to helped me find a car suited to my needs. I've had this envoy for two years now and she still purrs like a kitten. Like all used cars everything requires monitoring and maintenance but I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The crew at American Imports is the kindest.

Keith Jones

We found a problem during a test drive and they rushed to fix it before we bought the vehicle.

Frank Foust

Went to look at a car and it didn't start.

I went in the other day and basically the young guy(son of the owner he said) the prices are not negotiable.

These guys are the real deal. Seriously I've found my go-to used car dealership. My wife and I spent all morning running all over the east side looking for a decent used car, this was our last stop. They're not flashy or pushy, just a good group of quality people. This is a small family owned dealership and they really treat people like a part of the family... They're super sincere and ready and willing to help you find the best car for your needs. They worked with us on the price and helped us get going the same day with our new (used) car. We're thrilled with the car and with the service we received, we'll be back and we'll also be sure to send all our friends this direction! One awesome difference we learned about these guys while talking to Jordan, something that really sets this dealership apart from the other similar ones is that they don't buy from the auto auctions, they buy trade-ins from larger new car dealerships.. Its a valuable tidbit of information because that means the dealerships look the car over, then these fellas look the cars over so you're getting a better quality used car! Not some surprise piece of crap someone payed bottom dollar for at auction.... I found that very interesting!

I had new tires put on at American Imports, the experience was fantastic. I had my flat on Saturday and they were able to get me new tires and send me on my way. At the time, they showed me why the tire was not able to be repaired because of the area where it was. I was glad to have my Mercedes Benz back on the road! Thank you Mary for taking care of me!

Susan Smith

Do not provide accurate information about vehicles on advertisements. Prices are different on adds vs at dealership. Then was told they dont do financing. Just didnt trust anything they said. Go to a reputable dealership!

I needed a vehicle on short notice and they hooked me up with a low miles Chevy at a great price. Really nice and would highly recommend stopping by and checking out the inventory

One of the best Auto Repair places. They remember my car every time I go there and they really know there stuff. Super friendly staff and they are very quick too. I highly recommend them from everything from repairs to just getting your oil changed.

Bought a car for $2,000 here in August. The brakes felt fine on the test drive but later that night the brake light came on and the brakes were so bad driving became scary. I couldn't even make turns despite braking a block back. Took the car to get fixed and had to spend $1900 to completely fix the brakes. I understand it's an as is sale, but they shouldn't cover up problems and shut lights off just to make a sale and leave you screwed. I would suggest going elsewhere.

Ashton Lummis

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE- ESPECIALLY FACE TO FACE- BUT ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS GET A FACE FOR THE RADIO THAT WAS MISSING AND BALANCE AND ROTATE THE TIRES AND I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR THE CAR IMMEDIATELY... BUT THEY WEREN'T WILLING TO DO THAT. SO WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

I bought a used 2013 Ford Focus from American Imports last week and I was very pleased with the entire experience. I worked with Jeff and who was very friendly and helped me with the price. I was able to get an excellent deal on an extended bumper-to-bumper, warranty. The car itself is incredibly clean and was also priced $1500 under book value, so it was a great deal as well. They also gave me a very generous trade-in deal for my old car. I could tell they wanted me to purchase the car from them (just like any dealership would), but it was in a way that I didn't feel pressured in any way. The building is a little old, but very nice. You can defiantly tell this is a family owned business with the father and two sons, and with this experience I'd definitely buy another vehicle from this dealership in the future, as well as recommending it to people I know.

Lots of options, low cost! Within a week the wipers went out, rear view mirror fell off, the fuel gauge is broken, and we need a new side mirror... but it was cheap and their aquarium is neat!

I Came in a day earlier than expected. No problem Said Mary, there is coffee and Donuts in the lounge, take a seat and we'll get right on it. An hour later, I was our the door. Thanks Mary and Staff you are Excellent in my book.

Went in for an oil change and to have a hitch put on. Mary was her usual friendly, smiley self and makes you feel welcome. Have no problems with the hitch. Feel confident that the job gets done right whenever I take my car in!!

I did not get a good felling from this business. They made me and my son feel like we were a bother or not worthy of doing business with them. Honestly if you are a person of color I would not go here they seem a little racist. I remember coming here over 10 years ago and experienced the same thing so nothing has changed. Take your money elsewhere!

Personally, I have not been to this dealership. But I did call to inquire about an Avalanche that is currently for sale. I asked about the cars’ history and it sounded good. I then decided to pay for a full Carfax report since it would be a 2 hour drive. The Carfax report looked good. But I decided to take it one step further (because the car has been repoed and auctioned) and called the car shop that last worked on the vehicle. They were gracious enough to look up the car in their service records and I got an immediate “Don’t buy it!” I asked further and he gave me a list of problems including that the engine is bad. I then called American Imports back to inquire further. I got a “it drives fine” and “I don’t think they really had to do much work to it, we wouldn’t post it online if it wasn’t good.” Then I asked if they knew if it was a trade-in or an auction bought vehicle and I just got the “I don’t really know, there are over 100 cars in our lot.” So, in short, don’t take their word for it. Pay for a detailed Carfax report and call the last known shop to service that particular vehicle. you may just hear what I did, “don’t buy, it’s bad, unless they did a ton of work to fix it”.. which of course they admitted to no work needed.

I needed a car today, and Schaffer made sure I got a quality vehicle for an even better price than I thought! I test drove it AFTER I bought it on the strength of his word AND I know now I will only go here for a vehicle!

Pete Kerkhoff

Not a fan. Tried the old O2 sensor is why the engine light was on trick. I'm not blaming the staff, they are only selling cars they get from auctions as quick as possible while minimizing costs. The issue I had was even though the independent mechanic I had look at the vehicle said there were major transmission issues, the car lot staff told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Also informed me that if I paid for the $2200 repair, they would sell me the car at the great low price. Why would a potential customer ever pay for a repair that should have been completed before trying to sell the vehicle?

Donald Stikeleather

Found a car on car guru. How about this car instead? The car we came to test had mysterious engine lights. Seems fine. Stalled, stranding us with baby in the heat. "Don't know why it did that."

The staff was nice and let us look at a Mazda I was interested in. I wish there website told you that their cars have been in accidents because I hadn’t seen the damage to the car online and didn’t end up buying the car after learning about the two accidents it had been in. They also would take my jeep as a trade in for only $200 when it’s worth at least $500-$750. Guess that’s just how it works, but didn’t really enjoy feeling like my time was wasted.

Laura Pope

bought a car last week. Cadillac. Feel totally bamboozled. Although nice, no-one was consistent in reports about car. Didn't notice the fan noise under the hood. Said they'd not heard it. Told us things about the car that were not true, for example something as simple as "sorry it doesn't have the seat heaters" but, it actually does. This father and son(s) team didn't have reviews, wouldn't print us reviews, or said "yeah, hold on maybe we can" but shifted conversation to other partner as we asked questions. Lost the keys a couple of times. They were in and out of the office several times the father and son. Granted it was getting to be closing time, but they seemed very chaotic. Told us that they sell cars to the same people over and over due to great vehicles and their service. I doubt this. Sick now to report that the car looked so clean and good we purchased it. Got an oil change immediately after purchase and was told it was1 qt low. Drove it on vacation out East for Thanksgiving (this year 2015) and on our way home, car started to sound like a jet plane. Horrible noise from under the hood. Engine rattled and hummed, ultimately it died, or blew up on side of the road. We've owned it a week and 1/2. Our mechanic now says there are a host of things possibly wrong. Likely codes were wiped on this SUV after American Imports got it from the dealership nearby, (where they get all their great cars) before they put it on their lot. "we don't want to sell you this car tonight" was what we heard the day we went to see it, cause it was such a great car. Right. It was also on "special pre-holiday" pricing. Very upset and angry with these folks. DO NOT purchase any cars from American Imports, 8606 Pendleton Pike, Indianapolis. I'm surprised these guys have been around in business this long. I saved cash for a whole year to buy a used car, and really took a beating on this one. They will likely try to clear this review of their place. I will continue to warn anyone and everyone that will listen to my experience, to stay clear of this place, and to also warn their friends and family.
