We have the opinions of real people who are consuming the services of Stoddard\'s Meat Market & Catering (Butcher Shop) in Wisconsin area.
Right now this business has a rating of 4.0 stars out of 5 and the score was based on 34 reviews.
As you can see its rating is quite good, and it's founded on a very large number of scores, so we may be quite sure that the score is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to give their review when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to place reviews when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Butcher Shop is classified in the category of Catering.
I drive by every day on my way home from work. The service is always friendly. I have been happy with everything I've gotten. I stop in about twice a month (probably more)! I highly recommend!
Stoddard's catered our wedding in September, 2019. The food was fantastic, Briana was wonderful to work with when it came to making choices and figuring out the logistics of the day, and the service on our wedding day was amazing. We were so impressed with everything.
Warning! I would never recommend taking your deer to be processed here. Besides feeling like a lot of my meat was kept, i finally had the opportunity to go hunting since my brother killed himself. I got quite a beauty on my first outing 10 points! being rather unfamiliar with the process but thinking that hunting is a community of people that watch out for each other I dropped my buck off and was excited to get the rack back when I picked up my meats..... I was sadly disappointed. When I went to pick up .... my rack was not there and I was told it was thrown out. I could go look for it in the landfill. Like I said I’m a bit new to this but I found it really hard that someone would throw a beauty of a rack out seeing that they are sold online, used as dog treats, and as rattling antlers. Also a number of seasoned hunters told me later at work that there is no way someone would do that. All I can say is I feel stolen from. Also if the policy is that no instructions are provided then the antlers get pictched it should be clearly marked at drop off or spoken about or on the paper I leave with the meat choices. Do not take your deer here!
Great place to have your venison processed. Grinding trim and vacuum sealed cuts is standard with processing fee. Venison speciality meats (summer sausage and sticks) are fair priced and excellent. The meat counter has a good selection of quality beef, pork and poultry at a reasonable price.
great jerky and sticks
DO NOT TAKE YOUR DEER HERE!!! Do not waste your $95! A little background, I took my first deer this year and wanted to have it professionally processed. When I called ahead to ask about price and how long it would take to get my meat back I was told $95 with the possibility of $85 and it should be done by the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. I thought that was a fast turnaround, but she told me they were working extended hours. Well the Friday and Saturday passed with no phone call, so the next Friday I still hadn't heard anything from them so I gave them a call. BIG MISTAKE! The man who answered the phone yells to me, "If you have not gotten a call your deer is not done! If I have to stop and look for someone's deer every time someone calls, I'm never going to get anything done around here!" I said ok, and hung up the phone. I get a call a week after that to tell me my deer was ready to be picked up. I asked for as much roasts, steaks, and chops as possible and anything else to be made into burger. I got back very minimal meat with only one tenderloin as a previous poster had mentioned. Half my meat was turned into burger. I sent a picture of all my meat to my buddy to get his opinion and he called back laughing asking were the rest of it was. He didn't believe only 9 pieces of steak came off my deer. I will NEVER be going back here and will process any further deer taken by myself. P.S. I'm really not someone who would get online to complain about a place, this may be my first review ever. But this was a poor experience all around and I am really disappointed with how little meat I got back. And after all isn't getting as much meat back as possible the whole point of taking your deer to a butcher?
Do not bring your deer here for processing. Dropped off 3 deer from a great Missouri trip. Got back 3 tiny, maybe 8 ounce packages of tenderloin and no back straps from any of the deer in my cuts. Wonder where those went.
Unbelievable. I just called Stoddard's to check on the status of my FIRST deer because I have not received a phone call that it is ready, but now they tell me that they threw it away in June. So I paid for the butchering of my first deer EVER, and now I have nothing, not a phone call, nor meat, nor hotlinks/sausage. This is absurd. I didn't get a phone call either when the meat was ready nor before they threw it away. They need to look into their policies for following-up and make sure everyone is on the same page. Nevertheless, I will find a company that has their act together so I don't pay for services I never get to experience.
Love their steaks! They are the best I've ever had. All of my friends I have made them for agree! Top notch service as well!
I’ve been in Stoddards many times after living in Cottage Grove and being a hunter and avid griller/smoker. I quit going there a while ago and was reminded why this morning after I found a BB in some VENISON sausage I was cooking for breakfast. There have been multiple occasions of disappointment: 1- I’ve gone in there asking for help on how much brisket I should prepare for a certain amount of people. I get the answer from Jerry (owner) “It depends on how much you want to spend”. I’m not worried about money, but I don’t want waste and I want to have enough. He didn’t have an answer for me, so I guessed and he gave me two prepacked briskets. 2- I’ve chipped a tooth on what looked to be a metal part of a blender from sausage. 3- I’ve had to call and ask if my deer is done, which is has been for weeks. 4- I called ahead to ask if someone would be there to cape my deer so I could get it to the taxidermist ASAP, I was told yes. I got there 1.5hr before closing time and was told by Jerry that his workers shouldn’t have told me that. He said “We can hang it until the capers come back sometime next week” and he then walked out the door to go home. WHY could he not take 12 minutes to cape it himself and get me out of there? He is a butcher correct? He basically threw his employees under the bus and went home for the day. I Made a comment to his employees about it and they seemed to scared to respond. I LEFT with my deer and have never been back. 5- The sausage is okay, you can get better at many other places, but I prefer to support local business.... but Nope. 6- I BOW hunt private property and have shot multiple deer since I’ve been to Stoddards. Why am I finding a shotgun BB in my venison sausage this morning? To me, that’s more of a question that the State of Wisconsin should be investigating. I rarely leave reviews, good or bad, and I understand mistakes, but this has been years of disappointment. I’m thinking about throwing the rest of my processed deer from Stoddards out because I obviously don’t know if it’s even my deer and I don’t want to have my kids teeth broken.
great source of good eats! I'm especially fond of their bacon!
Just dam good food
This place has the best bacon I have ever had. I buy close to 20 lbs each Christmas and give it out as gifts to my family and friends. Service is fast and friendly and the prices are great, especially for the extra quality that you get. Highly recommend.
Super quality meats plus a full service meat processing facility...highly recommend the ribs!!
Very good customer service and pig! Would recommend to friends and family.
Stoddard's catered our Wedding of 400 people. Jerry and his team went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect!! We had plenty of food to go around for the buffet and everything ran smoothly. He has TONS of experience and offered great advice. AMAZING food and great prices!! All of our guests were blown away by their work. Would definitely recommend to anyone!!
The service is very friendly, and their meats taste great.
Have been taking deer in for processing for years. Professional, quality processing, great packaging, reasonable prices
Absolutely horrible experience. My husband picked up a 50lb pig for my sons birthday party. A teenager had him sign a piece of paper to pick up the pig and pan with no further explanation. We paid a $250 deposit for the pan that we were told would be refunded when we brought it back. It was 4th of July week and we went out of town right after the party. We returned the pan 7 days later. I brought the pan in and chatted with the workers who were very pleasant. The worker then handed me a refund slip for only $100, with absolutely no explanation. I barely noticed it myself on the receipt. When I said I thought this was supposed to be $250, a manager came out of nowhere and started yelling at me saying the pan was due back within 3 days and he charged me $50 for each late day. I said I had no idea, no one told my husband when he picked it up. And I also asked why no one called me if they were in need of it back. The manager said he tried calling me but it went right to voicemail. I had no missed calls so I asked to see the number he called. He showed me his paperwork and has wrote down my number incorrectly on one piece of paper. He did have the correct number on another so it was obviously a clerical error on his part. He refused to refund me the whole deposit because he said my husband signed the contract where it was stated somewhere. My husband would have never agreed to that when he picked it up because he knew we would be out of town and couldn’t return it. The manager took no responsibility for his staff not explaining the terms or his bad paperwork. He was incredibly rude. I will never go to Stoddards again. Horrible way to run a business.
Do not take your deer here for processing. I have had nothing but bad experiences. Last season, I took 3 deer for processing. I had ordered breakfast sausage and bacon to be made from one. I was called shortly after and advised that they were unable to complete the request as there was too much "green" meat. I debate this in the first place as the deer was killed late in the season (Dec-Early Jan) with a clean shot, field dressed immediately and brought in for processing the following day after hanging in freezing temperatures. Nonetheless, I let it go. After letting it go and several months later (apprx March), I received a call from Stoddard's telling me my bacon and breakfast sausage were ready. I explained my concern to the representative and was advised they would check into it and call me back. I heard nothing back until several weeks later when I received the same call. I advised the lady that I was told they could not complete my order due to "green" meat and had also confirmed this when I picked up my fresh cut and read my slip stating there was too much "green" meat to complete the request. I was once again told they would look into it and get back to me, I never received a response. In addition, I took a bow kill doe in for processing this fall and requested fresh cuts only. I would not have returned, except I was in a pinch with my work schedule to process myself or locate another place to take it. Once I had picked up my items, I immediately regretted this decision. From a large doe with a clean kill (possibly some damage to one front shoulder), I received a minimal amount of return including 1 tenderloin and it appears none of either back strap. If you don't want to get all of your meat in return and have to question whose deer you are picking up then feel free to take your kill to Stoddard's.
We recently purchased all of our food for a 35 person cookout from Stoddard’s Market in Cottage Grove, WI. All of the food from Stoddard's was VERY good and VERY reasonably priced. The Brats were especially outstanding. Everyone wanted to know where we got them. Their brats are large and meaty. The buns were fresh, the brownies nicely displayed and the salads were great! I would HIGHLY recommend Stoddard's Meat Market and Catering for your next party or large gathering needs!
Great selection of meats.
Best god damn T-bone in the state!
I’ve been going to Stoddards for years! Quality meat and I love that they take custom orders! Their hamburger buns are the best you can get anywhere—perfect bun to meat ratio. Their garlic cheese spread is excellent! And last of all friendly service!
We highly recommend Stoddard's Catering to any one wanting delicious food at an affordable price! We hired them to cater our wedding in June and were so pleased with everything! Brianna was amazing to work with and was very helpful with the planning. The glazed pork tenderloin was out of this world as was the beef brisket and sides. We would choose them again and again to cater our wedding! Thank you for making our guests very happy!!
contacted customer service and they were able to resolve my issue without problem.
My wife and I used Stoddards to cater our wedding this July 2019. From beginning to end Stoddards handled everything perfectly. They catering was professional, on time, and the food was great. We ordered the pig roast, salad, California mixed veggies, and scalloped potatoes. I highly recommend their services.
The meat looked good. Friendly folks there. A+ there. I got some snack sticks for a ride home and I've got to say I'm disappointed. They just weren't good. Dry, bland. Just really bad. Now that being said, that could be a mix problem. I can't say anything about the cuts in the car, which looked good. If you get a steak, you might just get a mouth watering product. But in Wisco a beef stick is a sacred thing, and these were were just way below par.
