I just moved to the area from TN and I found this place because of a Living Social deal they were doing. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! This is the ONLY place I buy meat, seafood, bacon, worth the extra money. Quality is the best I've ever seen. We now go every weekend.
Went in for the first time with my Groupon deal today. Been wanting to go for years based on what I read. Awesome service - the lady who helped me gave me a beef tutorial in under 69 seconds. The quality of the beef and seafood is simply heads and shoulders above anything else anywhere else.
Excellent service every time I go. This is my go to butcher. I live in McLean and drive all the way here because it's worth it. The meat is raised with humane practices. Don't go anywhere else.
I go here all the time. The meat is fresh and the staff are simply wonderful!
Fantastic meats at very good prices. You get the best deals on the premium meats. My goto meats are the grassfed beef, lamb and fresh ground sausage pork. The sausage pork is THE BEST. I have never had sausage pork that fresh before. It's amazing.
This place is great! My co-worker told me about it right after I moved in this area. The Italian sausage is very tasty! We buy pork, lamb, and beef here regularly. Goupon offers great groupon for this store and it is highly recommended!
Love this place, their service is great and they always accommodate requests for special cuts.
Love this butcher! Was introduced using groupon but continue to get my special dinners at Springfield! Even without the groupon :)
Always friendly. Prices are fair when you consider the quality.
A bit overpriced, even with the Groupon but it is definitely the best tasting meat you can buy. The owner is great and attentive. I wish they would lower the prices and have an everyday special or advertising like, 5$ off if you spend 50$ or more so I could go in more often minus the Groupon. I didn't have any problems with service.
Good meat, slightly high prices. Worth it in my opinion
Be very careful when you order ground beef. You have to use our freeze it the same day you buy it. Which i have never heard of before. I bought $40 in ground round for a birthday party on Sunday being they are closed on Monday and i wouldn't have time on Tuesday. Low and behold the meat was brown and foul smelling 2 days after buying. When i called i was told you have to use our freeze same day. Which would have been helpful the day i bought it! I never had to do that with any other ground beef. What i waste
Love to read about people who would prefer to shop in the market where they don't know where anything comes from.
Safe preservative free meat.
I’m surprised reading some of the reviews. They rarely take phone orders, so I find it hard to believe they would have done so and then sold the items to another. I’ve never had them sell my orders. And their prices are very reasonable for the quality. I never buy meat or seafood anywhere else. The meat is always sourced from the same farms, and that’s important to me.
Good for the quality if you have coupon(e.g., groupon, living social, specialicious).
Great knowledge and customer service. Meat is top notch -easily worth the little extra you pay there vs giant or shoppers. I'm hooked.
No frills butcher shop with great deals and vast selection. Normally have to take a number when entering if the shop is busy. look for groupon specials to really drive a great bargain. Parking lot can be challenging to exit but worth the visit and prices. This shop is in a large shopping center and can be difficult to spot however it is directly across the lot from Trader Joes. #CityExperts
Great meat, knowledgeable staff.
Amazing selection of the highest cuts of meat. The staff and owner (Mike) are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Hands down better quality than Wegmans or Whole Foods.
horrible customer service....been in there 6-8 times and they act like their doing you a favor while you spend a small fortune. last visit was enough....the rep. was rude and confrontational. coupons are a gimmick... they make up for the price hikes of the meats.
Great friendly staff that remembers you
The customer service here is fantastic! I have purchased two whole pigs from them and both have been ready on time, reasonably priced, and great!!
Had their ground lamb an it was great. Also had them process a deer. They did a great job but I wish they vacuum packed everything instead of the standard packing.
Nice selections , fresh meat , great customer service. Love to shop there .
Great place... wish there were more like this.
Meat was ok, seafood tasty, but service sucked! No gloves while putting order together If I am spending lots of cash, i will bring to whole food
The best butcher in springfield and fairfax, quality food for the price and they can tell you where it came from. Offers freezer stock packages, and you can preorder turkey or what have you for the holidays. The staff is friendly, and if you are unsure what steak or ground meat to use, they can help you and give advice.
Excellent place to buy all of your meat! Excellent customer service.
Perfect place to go for fresh cuts of all types of meat or special orders. Reasonably priced and knowledgeable staff.
Amazing quality, and special deals available through Groupon
I really like this place and have gotten great seafood and meat in the past. Sunday we bought chicken tenders that turned out to be spoiled two days later...which is too short a fridge life. I called them and they handled the issue.
Friendly knowledgable staff and a large selection of meats.
Top quality meats worth the price.Excellent service.
Always a great experience with nice a nice meat selection that goes way beyond standard beef/pork fare. Everyone is always very knowledgeable and super friendly
The had a variety of cuts of meat available. I called ahead and they were able to let me know lots of oxtails were still available. I have ordered from them multiple times before and each experience was good.
AWFUL customer service. Avoid at all costs. Decent product, but once you have a problem, the owner will not try to help you out.
Love this butcher shop, can be a little pricey but the quality is well worth it. If I lived closer this would be the only place I would get my meats from. The super market selection has nothing on this place.
Great service custom cut my chicken right on the spot!
They are great! They cost a little more than the grocery store but it is FRESH. I started getting my grilling meats from here in the summer of 2013. I rarely get meat from supermarkets now because the difference is night and day. Nice to buy from a place that actually knows where your meat is from, when it's from, and what it ate.
My goto butcher for any event . Great meat, always fresh and clean, and for affordable price.
Great quality. Been there twice and each time both items I purchased after fantastic. Prime tenderloin and strip are consistent.
Customer Service sucks!
Love everything about this place. Quality, service. Grass fed eggs and meat are amazing, and in our backyard. This is now the only place I will eat eggs or meat from.
Super friendly staff that's always willing to help. They make their on sausage, brats and bacon that are on point!
This is my very first review and i have to say this place is awful! We bought pork leg for our New Year dinner! Meat smelled like uncastread, smelled like boar taint (androstenone and skatole – that is in the fat of male pigs. Androstenone (a male pheromone) is produced in the testes as male pigs reach puberty, while skatole (a byproduct of intestinal bacteria, or bacterial metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan) is produced in both male and female pigs). I cant even explain how bad it smelled. We trashed right after we cooked and open all windows so we dont smell the thing! We paid for this leg $37, we were thinking to get another one but we didnt, fortunately. Thats how we stayed with empty plates on our New Years Day! Do not recommend!
This is my go to place for all of my meats. It's expensive but worth every penny. The counter reps are great and will give you tips on cooking if you need some ideas. I love their Groupons but would go there even if they didn't offer them.
Bought a couple of steaks from here. Which turned out well.
Was here last week doing some shopping for the family. The meats are a little more expensive than say Giant, Safeway, Wholefoods, etc. but, at least I have an idea where my food is coming from. There is a difference between store bought meats and grocery meats. You get what you pay for.
The only place to buy meat. So worth the small extra cost.
Enjoyed my visit to the Butcher today! Used an old Groupon to save some cash and picked up those delicious Crabcakes. On Tuesdays the Crabcakes are $7.99 each. I also was looking for a round steak for a recipe. The lady looked at my phone to determine which cut (bottom round)would be best. After weighing my selection, she sliced all my meat to the preferred strip size in the recipe. Now that's service!
Staff is friendly, but if you're looking for a traditional butcher shop that cuts meat you should try somewhere else. I've been into the store several times looking for various cuts from roasts to brisket, and everytime they have refused to cut smaller portions. I understand the logic, I just don't think it's what most consumers expect from a butcher shop. I'm willing to throw down some money if I feel comfortable handling large cuts of meat, but if you're still learning or have a small family you're better off going to a chain grocery where more reasonable portions can be bought.
I only buy the crab cakes and they are delish
I called ahead to order a half leg of lamb to be deboned and ready for pickup. I gave the man on the phone my last name and told him I would be within an hour. When I arrived they had sold the leg of lamb even though I had called to order it. Will not make the mistake of shopping there ever again!
Nice store , fresh meat . Good selections !
Overall, solid quality, but very expensive (even with the frequent Groupons). Crab cakes - As other reviewers already mentioned, really delicious. If you haven't tried them, I'd highly recommend it. They're quick and easy to cook. At $6.99 for a small crab cake, they are pricey though. Also, I've been here 3-4 times and have been over charged for the crab cakes EVERY time (I dropped a star for this). They advertise (on a sign taped above the crab cakes) that if you buy 5 or more, the price per crab cake is a dollar cheaper each. I've never actually gotten this discount. I'll usually notice that I've been overcharged as I'm walking out the door, but since they're typically very busy, it ends up being too annoying to go back to correct their mistake. It's a bit suspicious that this seems to happen every time too. If you do buy the crab cakes, keep an eye the charges! Duck breast - The good thing is that they carry duck pretty regularly (I've found it hard to find a consistent source of duck breast in D.C.). The bad is that it's previously frozen duck. It's still decent quality though. However, it's super expensive. I've noticed that they don't typically print the price on the vacuum sealed packages, but if you decide to buy, just assume you'll pay a lot. Customer service - Given that it tends to be really busy, expect to wait. However, they do have a nice system to deal with the crowds - you take a number by the door and they just call out the numbers. The people who works here always seem really friendly and knowledgeable as well. Parking - I've always been able to find a spot, but the lot here always seems to be miserably busy. There's always a long wait to get out of the parking lot.
From Ken Gardner: Mike and crew, thank you. A special thank you to Sarah for your loving fulfillment of my orders. Love you all.
They know meats, have good selection, but they had reputation for being grumpy to customers. But Sarah behind counter is friendly, very knowledgeable, quick, and a ray of light. Their bacon is great.
Seriously the worst. Never get it right, charge Whole Foods prices for Safeway quality. Don't wear gloves when getting meats, terrible customer service, most of the counter reps could care less. A recent example: I went on to get steak and chicken thighs, pretty simple order. The steak was 24.99 and the chicken was 9.00. The counter clerk told me, Sir 15.00 (the difference of my $30 . 00 Groupon). This isn't the first time they have tried pulling this one. The very next day. My wife goes in to use her Groupon, and they didn't package her entire order, causing us to be missing main ingredient for our dinner tonight. Main point. Stop buying Groupon for this place and just go to Whole Foods, at least the staff there is trained and you will get the quality you're purchasing.
Great butcher, great employees, nice locally owned shop. Highly recommend!
Excellent variety, quality and service! We buy their bacon, steaks, ribs, chicken and seafood and it is all excellent, every time.
Extremely rude
Freaking overprice!!!!!! More than double the price in regular stores!
I found a Groupon online for The Springfield Butcher Shop. They have more grass feed beef than any grocery store in the area. I need to get another Groupon because I want to stock up on steaks and burgers.
You can get any kind of cut you would like here and we think the meat is excellent. I like browsing because there's always something new in the case...bacon wrapped venison back strap anyone? I bought the crabcakes for Xmas dinner once. They're the best. They keep the door open on nice days and provide personal service. You do pay for it though, so if you're on a strict budget this might not be the place for you unless you buy in volume and have a freezer.
