A lot of the waitresses here make the side salads with their bare hands, and also touch the bread that comes in the bread baskets, which obviously is very unsanitary considering that they handle money and God knows what else in between. I wouldn't put it past the cooks to be handling ready-to-eat foods with their unwashed hands as well. The owner himself is extremely nice, but his wife is one of the most disrespectful women I've ever met. I've overheard her talking poorly about her customers more often than not, which probably has a lot to do with why the previous owners(her husband's parents)dislike her so much. Along with the fact that she treats a lot of the newer waitresses there like garbage right in front of customers. The waitresses are poorly trained(even the ones that have been there for 10+ years), and obviously were never taught the appropriate way to handle food. So unsanitary. This place would be a lot more pleasant if Gretchen wasn't there with her poor attitude.

New cooks cant even cook a steak right. Red cabbage tastes like saurkraut...food sent back twice and I wasn't trying to send it a third time... Didn't even eat the meal...it was that terrible.. female owner did not even care or try to make it right. McDonald's is better. But waitress Tracy was great....!

A "one of a kind" kind of place. The schnitzel is great and the pork knuckle is equally fantastic. If open the store is worth dropping into, bring a cooler bag and some self-control!

the meal I had last night (chicken marsala) was the MOST HORRENDOUS chicken I have EVER eaten. the chicken itself was like rubber and despite a delicious marsala wine sauce there was no covering the taste of that chicken. my husband and I have eaten here many times and food was always delicious, but I never had the chicken before we have only had beef or fish dishes...always excellent. I write this review for others so they don't make mistake of ordering the chicken marsala. I really feel it should be removed from the menu if this is the quality of chicken they get.

This place was horrible! The food was lukewarm and had a rubbery taste and texture to it. The spetzle was still soft and sticky in the middle and when I complained to the waitress she told me that there was nothing they could do about it. Horrendous service and even more atrocious dining. There is a much better option right down the street at Der Jäeger, would highly recommend to anyone, not only looking for delictable german dishes but a place that will truly welcome you with open arms.

I've had the displeasure of eating at this establishment on 2 occasions and both times listened to the I guess owner as I was told he was the owner anyway he does nothing but belittle his employees. On my first occasion I figured he was having a bad day. On the second occasion he called his employees names so bad I thought the female was going to start bawling. I will never eat here again.

I do love this place always clean and great atmosphere. I've been going for years with my wife. I love German food she is not a big fan so she always got chicken cutlet which they took off the menu no big deal burgers and steaks are great. The last 3 times i went the food went way downhill. They burnt my schnitzel, cold red cabbage,cold spatzel and served it to me anyway, forgot to send my bacon wrapped scallop appetizer and liver dumpling soup ice cold. Place was almost dead and we waited a half hour for salads. Waitress blamed it on kitchen said it was very cold that day so they were short staffed. She removed scallops from bill. I hope they get a new chef or something soon.

Three words for you...Bavarian Pork Knuckle...Served Friday and Saturday only..food is delicious! service was awesome! Stop in and eat and enjoy. Octoberfest is in August. Bavarian pretzel appetizer with beer cheese sauce is GINORMOUS!!

Stopped in here to try their german good. Everything on the menu looked delicious. Ended up deciding on the buffet. All the sausages and prime rib were tasty. Potato salad. Soup. And more. So full after eating. But still had dessert.

The food is consistent here. Really authentic, love the big pretzel, always homemade and fresh. The staff is courteous and are always running around in a frenzy but it's great.

There is a grocer and deli side and an enclosed restaurant off to one side. The deli has a good selection of sausages, meats, baked goods, and more. We got a bunch of hot sandwiches to go from the restaurant and I’d very highly suggest the Reuben. This is a place we’d visit again.

A journey to Bavaria right in Honesdale. Dining at this restaurant is a wonderful experience from the moment you walk into the nicely decorated dining room. Walls adorned with cuckoo clocks and more unique memorabilia. The aroma detected is a hint of wonderful flavors to soon be delivered to your table. The servers are adorned with authentic apparel that really complete your trip to Bavaria. When the apps are delivered the feast begins! Bacon wrapped Sea Scallops, Gebackener (baked Brie w/ cranberry apple chutney), Raucher Forelle (Smoked Trout Filet), and more. Delivery of the entrees... deliciousness continues... Wiener Schnitzel, Jaeger Schnitzel, Zwiebelrostbraten, Slow Roasted Smoked Prime Rib, Delmonico Steak, and a Cheeseburger for our grandson. The dessert tray from the Black Forest: Apple Streudel, Bienenstich, Chocolate Lovers, and the Prinzregententorte! What a tasty finish to a great meal!!! Bavaria is calling you, will you answer?

We came here late on Sunday afternoon around 4:30pm. Closing time is 5 pm on Sundays. We did not know that. Our waitress Bonnie was very polite. We were not rushed. Food was great. Other guests arrived even later than us. There was no sign of hurrying customers.

This place is amazing, I would eat here every day if I could. Not a large beer selection but everything is quality. The appetizers are amazing, straight baller. The Bavarian pretzel is the size of someone's torso. The main courses are authentic, delicious and absolutely wonderful Bavarian eats. My personal favorite is the Schnitzel ala holstein. An absolutely beautiful and tasty dish. I've tried other things and they are all too quality but the schnitzel ala holstein takes the cake on deliciousness. So long story short, if you only have one meal in Honesdale, make it the Alpine.

Best place in the whole world!!!! Service is impeccable! I wish I could share the rice pudding with every person I've ever loved, I cried the first time I tasted it. THE KING LUDWIG STEAK IS SOMETHING SACRED!!! Although one of their delmonicos are a bit more practical and pack just as much flavor. So many delicious imports and incredible sausages. Red Alert. Have been going to this German restaurant for 16 years. They appear to be going out of business based upon the horrible service we experienced this evening. Took over 1 hour for our meals to be served. Staff seems very frustrated. Blames the problem on limited staff in the kitchen. Their problem became ours. Won't be returning anytime soon.

The first time my family and I went it was good. Our second a month later we were seated and ignored for over 30 minutes. Waitresses would walk by looking right at us and keep going. I complained and we got service. We should have just walked out! And they're expensive!

I worked here for a short 2 weekends and lemme tell you it’s the worse. Some of the waitresses eat food off of plates before giving it to customers, the bread in the bread baskets that people don’t eat are used again in the next bread basket for the next customer. The guy manager is so nice, but the woman (Gretchen) is extremely rude. She talks badly about customers and is always rude to the employees. This place is horrible. Also Gretchen loves to gossip about workers, as she did about me. Horrible restaurant.

Gave two stars and not one cause the food was decent. We were the only table beside 2 others and the service took forever. For a small beer mug was like over $10 that's insane and the burger was expensive too. The worst for me was the music was way-way to loud. The music drove me insane smh.

Great atmosphere, great authentic alpine food, great service at great prices. Feels like home cooking and is consistently tasty across the menu. After you have a wonderful, filling meal go to the market and buy some of their high quality meat. The beef jerky is the best and smoked scallops are a rare treat.

If you are looking for meats and sausages then look no further! A nice selection of top quality products including a selection of Wursts that is unmatched. They also have a smaller selection of breads, pastries and some other goodies like condiments you won't find anywhere else. For me it's a 45 minute drive but I wouldn't get my sausages anywhere else.

Consistently great food. Suitable for children, parking, accessibility and atmosphere. Deli counter is reasonably priced and usually quick. The mulled wife is perfect on a cold day. The schnitzel is proper. The beer is cold. Definitely a must see and taste if you're in the area.

As someone who enjoys celebrating my Germanic heritage through food, I always look forward to a trip to the Alpine. The atmosphere is comfortable and very clean. The decor is traditional and just what you would expect in a German restaurant. The food is good. I have had some wonderful dinners and some that disappoint (an overcooked schitzel and some dry pork - just a few minutes too long in the oven I guess). The wurst shop is nice, but the prices are very much NYC and not small town PA, but that is the price you pay for quality.
