We were standing in Providore Fine Foods in NE Portland, Oregon and Morgan was drooling over all the cheese, meats, and Little T American Baker bread available. "I don't care," he calmly replies. "Except for City Market NW, there's no store I would rather food shop in." Fair enough.

Went to find Flying Fish Company, and discovered a wonderful specialty market with experts on hand to offer tips and answer questions. Go to Providore Fine Foods for beautiful produce featuring heirloom and organic varieties — an incredible selection of hard-to-find pantry items from nearby and around the world — the lovliest-ever flower bouquets — surprising refrigerated items from local fine food companies — and much, more. Given more time, I would have had a bite at the deli with on-site seating, explored the cheese case, and chosen a pastry to take home. Flying Fish Company also has a companion meat counter with specialty items I don't normally see. My delightful visit ended with a few more purchases than I came for — most of them things on my grocery wish list. I'll be back!

I just started working close by and I have visited Providore every day since then. They have such a wide variety of foods available - from salads to pasta, croissants to cappuccinos. I can go in and out for take-out lunch within 5 minutes if I know what I want already. The only thing is I wish they opened earlier! I wanted to go in and get coffee before work and they were closed (they open at 9:30).

Amazing specialty grocer by the owners of Pastaworks (RIP). There are numerous purveyors under one roof here - Pastaworks (pasta and bread, natch), Flying Fish (fish and land meat), Rubinette (Produce) and more. Tons of high end Italian ingredients as well as other international stuff that's all on the gourmet end of the scale. The only place in town I know you can get Galician conservas. And the wine selection is mighty. There's even a oyster bar where you can sip bubbly and toss back half-shells. Or grab a chicken from Arrosto. Yummmmmm

Wow. Just wow. What amazing, gourmet European food or beverage do you desire? Yeah, they've got that. Fresh bread? Meat? Fish? Yep. Cured meats? Salads and pastas? Wide selection of oysters on the half shell? You bet. Wine, beer, cider, etc. It's a densely packed wonderland of gourmet deliciousness. You can eat there or take things home to cook later. You are a fool if you miss it.

Remember the sitcom Frasier? Remember the little shop Niles gets his charcuterie from? This is that shop. Shopping in this store was an experience in luxury. Everyone who worked there looked like they genuinely enjoyed it, like they had graduated from a school specifically for that grocery item and had sought out work in this particular shop just to be able to talk to you about the difference in flavor profiles of dried mushrooms. The fishmonger introduced me to his fridge full of sushi grade fish as though each piece were a tribute to Poseidon. At the cheese counter, each selection was labeled with not only names, but a detailed description of the flavor and texture. When checking out, the cashier handled my items as if assembling mise en place for a Michelin chef, then apologized for not giving me a bigger bag as if each item needed its own breathing room. Make no mistake, shopping at this market may cost an arm and a leg, but it's the kind of luxury experience and selection that makes me say honestly I would promise them my first born if that was required for access. Luckily, all they ask for is money. Tldr: I paid $62 for two blocks of cheese and a pound of fish, but it was totally worth it.

Almost overwhelming, pasta last time, which was awesome in my lasagna, this time I got a whole fish to roast with some leeks and garlic I got fresh at psu farmers market. Haven't hit the awesome deli counter yet, all kinds of delicious looking meat bits in there, the tri tip at flying fish looked great too.

Staying in Portland and was out looking for food and drink. Stumbled on this place and was nicely surprised. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. A terrific selection of cheeses and meats and the staff will offer you samples and recommendations to ensure you get something you will enjoy. Purchased two "Real Budweiser beers" from the Czech Republic, Genoa hot salami, cured meats and a focaccia special to go. I had a feast when I got back to my room. Worth another visit when in Portland.

Spendy specialty foods market. We primarily go here for Pastaworks, but they now only offer a very reduced, rotating selection of their sauces and fresh pastas. Call ahead if you have your heart set on one of their formerly regular offerings.

I can't speak to the food aspect (as I seldom grab more than a salted caramel chocolate chip cookie or two), but it's a great place to grab a bottle of bubbly or still wine, pop the cork, open the laptop and get some work done. Great bottle selection, inexpensive corkage and an all around laid back, unpretentious atmosphere. My only wish to make it better: it'd be great if there were a bit of Lambrusco pre-chilled in the case as well. See you again soon .
