I wanted say first and foremost, thank God for this place. The Butchery is a dying breed and the family that owns and operates Ole Timey Meats is doing it right. Growing up in my Grandfathers butchery and learning the trade as a child is such a important memory of mine and to see this family doing a age old trade almost brought tears to my eyes. The shop is clean and inviting. Within seconds of approaching the case of beautiful meats I was greeted. Their display of cuts are well lit and clear. The precision of the cuts was unparalleled. I purchased 2 pounds of beautiful top round wrapped in white butchers paper and when I got it home I only did minimal cuts to obtain the desired size. The true beauty was upon cooking the meat. Before finding Ole Timey Meats I had to buy my meats from the local supermarkets as I am not from the area. The meat that is sold in IGA, Food Lion and Wal-Mart are so heavily preserved that when you pan sear the house smells like chemicals and the meat is tough and flavorless. Not the case at this butchery, the meat cook liked a dream, the aroma was pleasant and earthy and without any seasoning or condiments it was one top 5 best pieces of meat I have had the pleasure of eating. They get there beef from midwest ranchers who pride themselves on causing a stress free environment for the cattle which you can taste, the meat is not tense it is soft and very delicious. Price, you can beat the prices. My purchase came to little under $12 when I went back home in Kershaw I wanted to check the IGA and found that they were selling a sickly looking cut of meat, half the size of what I got from Ole Timey for almost twice the price. Highway Robbery!!!! If you are reading this and debating on weather you should crawl out of the dark supermarket and give the local butcher a try. All I can say is give it a try let these people get you a piece of meat, chicken or pork that will make you question everything you have ever though about meat. With that being said if the folks at Ole Timey Meats read this, if you ever need help let me know. Thanks again.
