Here we offer you the reviews of real people who are purchasing the services of The Meat Hook (Butcher Shop) in the state of New Jersey.
At the moment the business gets a score of 4.7 out of 5 and this score has been calculated on 124 reviews.
As you can read, its rating is almost the top, and it is based on a high number of feddbacks, so we may conclude that the valuation is quite credible. If people have bothered to evaluate when they've done well with the business, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to set feddbacks when they are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Butcher Shop is included in the category of Butcher shop.
Absolutely love this place. I wish I could give them more than five stars. They always have the best cuts of meat, all the staff is extremely well informed and one time I cut myself on one of their knives and they cleaned it and helped me out! Super sweet staff. Would recommend everything on the menu, I've ordered plenty from them. *Edit* They've moved and I found out that they were just renting the space from Brooklyn Kitchen which has the meats. I visited their new location and it's really not so awesome. Reduced the review by 2 stars. Sorry guys :(
Overpriced, and poor service. I prefer to support the friendly, neighborhood butcher who has been there for decades, located right across the street.
Trendy but rather nice shop. However, Kielbasa is just the general name for Polish sausage. So my question is, which one is it that you sell?
Top notch quality meats grown local (NY state), organic and sustainably raised, and butchered fresh to your preference on-site. Prices are on higher side for me but the quality is well worth the extra couple of dollars once you take that first bite. Pre-prepared goods from their kitchen include chicken and beef stocks, and an array of tasty packaged sausages. They stock a small selection of locally grown vegetables, primarily greens and tubers. Also offer a nice spread of specialty cheeses. Extremely courteous staff and owners. Obvious they sincerely appreciate the support of their small business operation. They host BBQ's in their backyard in the Spring and Summer, providing a fun and delicious, and way to informally meet new neighbors.
The Meat Hook is very, very interesting. They truly have a passion for meat, and it shows. When I'm at Brooklyn Kitchen, it's interesting to stop by and see what they've come up with. HOWEVER somebody needs to call foul on all this "prices are a little high" business. They have, for instance, three kinds of bacon. The cheapest is $17 a pound. Now, maybe this is just me, but I'll see this and say, "Wow, that bacon must be really good -- though it looks kind of old and fatty." And then I'll think that people around here must be billionaires, and I'll go to a regular store and buy Oscar Meyer. If you buy into this "locavore" "nose-to-tail" stuff, this might be worth it for you. But I question a movement that offers a verrrrry small benefit for SUCH a ridiculous cost. As I say, it's interesting to watch, but count me in with the non-trust-fund-hipsters who don't have money to burn, thanks.
*Don't confuse this with the Meat Hook Sandwich shop down the street* Great butcher shop, always a good selection. As a bonus, it's attached to Brooklyn Kitchen that has lots of fun and fancy supplies. They offer cooking classes almost every night too if you're looking for a fun event with drinks!
Our go to place for delicious, nutritious and feel good about our purchase meats because we trust their quality! Have not found another butcher bar that compares in terms of careful attention to handling of the meat products. Also, love their produce section. Always find seasonal locally sourced and organic veggies and fruits.
Everything that I've purchased from The Meat Hook has been top quality, and most importantly, what I make with what I buy tastes great. There is no comparison with the chickens that they get. Forget Whole Foods organic chicken. You'll have the most tender, juicy, delicious chicken dinner. Their bacon, pork and beef products are all top quality. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 isn't food related. Their shop is in Williamsburg which is prime rate real estate, which makes the prices here high. In my opinion, too high, but, that's not a food complaint. The butchers there are knowledgeable and friendly, and I always am happy that I made the trip.
You get way you pay for. Top notch proteins, knowledgeable and cool staff, and the produce is actually super affordable. Can't really beat the quality in NYC.
Steaks and pork on pointe. Also, try their pimento cheese.
The best meat store in East Williamsburg. They carry an outstanding selection of organic/ grass fed / humanely raised meats. You can also an $8 sandwich of the day prepared at the Lorimer location. The store has a cool decor and personalities.

Bought to ribeyes for about $80. They were tasteless and tough and I have had a lot experience cooking steak. They were not over cooked at all and were seasoned properly. This place is just a total rip-off and I doubt that they were dry aged. Really disappointing. I really don’t understand how dry aged steak could be so bad, but if you want to refund the $80 I spent I’ll give you another shot.
That place is amazing, the quality of everything was outstanding! Be prepared to spend some money but its totally worth it.
Meat Hook ... you are everything in my life. Seriously ... you provide all of the meat that I'll eat. Because the first time I came into the butcher shop, I explained that I was totally wigged out by the American meat process and had recently gone vegan because I was totally grossed out. I also explained that I really missed meat and cheese and wanted to know if you could tell me where your meat and cheese came from and whether or not it was produced humanely and cleanly. Surprise! You do both. You showed me slideshows of the farms, pictures of the farmers, you were really nice about it, too. I'm a Meat Hook shopper for life now. Yum.
Helpful staff, super delicious, very ethical meat.
Amazing team at The Meat Hook! They value their customers and have a wonderful selection of fair trade spices, house-made stocks, sausages and (most importantly) a wide selection of beautiful cuts of meat. Their produce also keeps with their approach; I felt like I was at a farm stand in the heart of Williamsburg/Greenpoint. Indisputable quality and will go back anytime.
Friendly staff and very nice store. Meat is good quality but a bit pricey. Overall though, is a good store and can get value on cheaper cuts.
Amazing butcher shop and kitchen supply store. A wide variety of meats, sausages, stocks (including pork, duck, etc.), fats (duck, lard, etc.), and local produce. They also have local cheeses, eggs, and dairy products. Note that it's also crazy Hipster, both in the workforce and in the clientele. :)
Great customer service, meats and sausage.
The best butcher for miles.
Everytime we come here, we have to prevent ourselves from buying too much. We came to meat hook to purchase some fresh ground beef when we hosted a BBQ. We wanted to duplicate the burgers we love from Shake Shack and came here to buy some meat. The burger was a hit and we knew it was because of the quality of meat. Always check in on their seasonal specials since they source their meat from local farms and therefore, there's always some limited quantity meat parts from cow, lamb or pork in the house.
Yes...good meat from local farms. Best known for unusual flavored sausages that are unusually delicious like cheeseburger and bahn mi. A little pricy, but worth it for the quality of the ingredients, which come from local farms.
First time here great service
Best sausage around. Perfect blend of spices and the meat is all organic and grass fed. Excellent and friendly service too.
This is a very fun store to visit if you are a fan of cooking or baking. There is a ton of kitchen equipment that can't be found in a normal chain store. They carry high end brands if you want quality. The meat offered by their butcher is "artisan" and of high quality also. I would stay away from the vegetables however because as fresh and local as they are, it is not worth the price.
Excellent Sausage and meats! Super friendly. Even have best doggie treats!
Finest quality meat you'll find in the tri state area ... Try their lamb bacon, lamb belly, and dry aged steak.
Probably the best butcher in NYC
For those unfamiliar: this is not the Meat Hook sandwich shop, which was in a different location and is now closed. They consolidated. You can still grab sandwiches here, but the selection is more limited, and there isn't a fryer (so no fried chicken). As far as the butcher shop selection here is great. The Meat Hook is always a great place to grab some sausages. (If you ever get a chance to try the chicken coconut curry sausages, do so.)
Excellent butcher shop. Chicken liver mousse is to die for
The Meat Hook is a top quality butcher shop, nestled in the back of the Brooklyn Kitchen. The handmade jalapeno sausage and lamb sausage I buy in this store have no equal in terms of proper balance, flavor and just the right amount of fat. Bonus Tip: The Meat Hook is not very large so shop early or order in advance to get what you need.
Great meat AND produce to complete the meal. Excellent helpful service as well.
Great sandwiches and meat selections. Bring back the roast beef sandwich!
Two words: encased meats.
One of the best country pate I have had.
rillet, their duck confit, their whole chicken, their huge pork chops, pork tenderloins. Virtually a guaranteed fabulous dinner. Red wine & rosemary sausage is my favorite.
I don't know where they are getting these chickens from, but they taste better than any chicken you can get at the supermarket.
I've gone to the Meat Hook a couple of times. I always walk out with really cool cuts of meat, sausages and kitchen items. The staff is very friendly and it's definitely worth the trek.
So... have you ever wondered where the heck your favorite steak cut comes from? Or what REALLY is in that sausage? Maybe you just don't know what the eff to do with a whole chicken. The men and women behind that counter? They can help. I can throw ANY question at them and get an informative, entertaining response. Don't let the hipster vibe intimidate ya, these people know their meat and want to spread the joy of yummy flesh to all. The meat, veggie and dairy prices can seem a bit high, but everything is fresh fresh fresh and I trust their source.
Very expensive but they have a few thing that really are worth the price
Fantastic butcher with good counter service. Their stocks are good too.
Great meat, OUTSTANDING customer service
Exceptionally inefficient checkout but terrific selection of delicious items and friendly staff
best place to get your meat on
This place is awesome! They have pasture raised
My favorite butcher shop. Not only are the meats top quality, but the atmosphere is intoxicating. I love going here because you automatically feel at home -- that is super important for any business but this especially makes me excited to go here! All the meats are great but I especially love the chicken and steaks. They also have this great buffalo chicken dip ever now and then, try it!
Very cool
This is an incredible meat wonderland. Seam butchery at it's best. Watching the butchers delicately find the tastiest parts and cutting to order it's what you hope for in a great shop. I've done 2 of the daily sandwiches and the angels sang with every bite. I take a stick of homemade jerky with me as I walk back to the office as my stomach grumbles for the goodies awaiting in my brown paper bag.
I stopped in here today to pick up a steak for my carnivorous sweetheart and the gentlemen working here were so helpful. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The quality of the meat was perfect (.6lbs filet mignon) and the service was excellent. It smelled perfectly fresh and clean in the store. Not bleach. Just CLEAN. Their meat is sustainably and humanely raised and if I (a vegetarian) enjoy shopping here, it must be good. Edit: the "original gangster jerky" that was purchased for a said sweethearts flight was a huge hit!!
Incredible meat from the best farms in the region prepared by world-class butchers with the friendliest attitudes around.
In a word: bandsaw.
Been going to this local butcher shop since they were in the back of a grocer and I have loved, even more, going to there new shop. I love the meats, so having a great butcher shop with really solid prices is key. Meat Hook is the best. I've been in a few dozen times and they always deliver, no matter who I'm talking too, always super knowledge and friendly! I've really appreciated the addition of bone broth in the colder months (if you've never had it, think super rich savory soup broth deliciousness) Last visit I got a big steak for me and my lady and was really happy with the flavor. It was a dry aged porterhouse and although I've been in a lot this maybe was the first time I've sprung for the "top shelf" meats and I must say it will have to be a more regular thing now that I've experienced it. Favorite butcher shop hands down. If you haven't tried it yet and love the meats it's about time you step up to the counter and give it a go.
This place has it all - meat, eggs, cheese, milk, bread, vegetables, sauces, beer, and a bunch of other things I wouldn't expect (especially things for your grill). And it's all great quality. Also, the staff are extremely friendly. Very pleased to have this place in the neighborhood.
Nice small food shop with high quality curated selection of veggies, condiments, and meats. They are best know for their meats, that is their focus as their name implies. Worth the visit as well if you are just looking for tasty veggies.
heavy good high quality
The first time I was there the staff were hauling hogs cut in half in through the front door. Great food. Nice people. They also carry Black Seed bagels.
Excellent service. They take the time to address your needs and your budget. As a first time visitor I walked out very satisfied with my purchase.
All the grassfed high quality beefs and other organic produce you could want, given the rather small size. Craft butchery dont come cheap, but you'll truly enjoy what you eat.
Enjoyed my experience shopping there. Bright, well-lit, well laid out.
Great spot with high quality ingredients. Expensive, but never disappoints. This place also sells bones for broth making.
Best butcher in town
