Nothing comes even close anywhere West of the Rhine. Austro-Hungarian Empire tradition butchers and sausage makers of the highest order. There is a subway station nearby. The delicious scent of smoked meats might get you mugged -- your iPhone is safe, though.

They have perfectly seasoned chcharron and other quality cuts of meat to take home and prepare for dinner as well as delicious cuts of fresh prepared meats stuffed deliciously with sausage, etc... As I walk in, my mouth waters as the aroma of the specialty smoked meats brings me back...I've Loved this place since childhood. Always the best quality...always the best service. European Old world recipes: consistantly delicious. Try the Istarski Vrat instead of bacon for your pork and beans dish, and the homemade cvapcici at your next barbque. The Bulgarian Feta melts in your mouth. Cookies too! Moderately pricey, but worth every penny!

The wonderful smells as I walked into the shop and I exclaimed, "I am going to spend some money here!" which I can honestly say, I have NEVER said that before that loud upon entering a place. I had a number of items. Bacon, top notch, thick or thin, they cut it in front of you; it comes with the rind on unless you ask them to remove it and they will oblige. Roast beef, amazing. My mouth watered the whole time. they did give me a sample of their bacon rinds. I have since turned Vegan so I shall not be back but it was wonderful at the time.

I ordered garlic pork pastrami, bolongna, and blood sausage without rice. I'm not from the area, however, a relative brand my order to michigan for me. Wow!! Master crafted pastrami was the best ever, I'm still in awe. Everything I ordered was exquisite. I am now planning a trip to NY to visit Muncan market!! I'm bring coolers and cash, can't wait to experience all the wonderful meats ect. They have. Wow, if you are a fan of charcuterie and mom and pop shops this is your mecca. Muncan is a butcher shop that focuses on charcuterie and artisinal preserved sausages and meats. The shop has been owned by the same family for many generations. The service is spot on as they offer you to taste any of the items and provide great suggestions and backgrounds on each piece. My go to here are the pork head cheese which was flavorful and had all the lil bits of different pork pieces. The winter salami was also very hearty with nice flavor. The lamb proscuitto is a must if you want something original that isn't offered anywhere else. I also liked the mortadella cold cuts meat which had pistachio and peppercorn which made for great sandwiches. Go for a small bag of pork rinds in the back as well. Crispy and not just all fat but had decent portions of meat and fat together. With a shop like this in Astoria it's a destination spot that i'd always go to for my charcuterie needs.

This place is truly a treasure for pork lovers, the best chicharrón in nyc for sure, magical smoked meats and good prices for everyone, I highly recommend you to walk all the way to the end and look to the right there is a tray full of fried pork skin, believe me you have to try it. I've never had such ridiculously tasty cured meat before discovering Muncan. Makes me love living in Astoria even more. I personally recommend the head cheese, cracklings, ham, and bacon. Speaking of bacon, they have such a huge variety and they're all cured with perfection! The buying process is very efficient too. You grab a number and order when called. But do expect a little bit of a wait since this place is so popular.

If you love smoked and cured meats this place is heaven! This is an old-world charcuterie! The smoked pork butt is tender and so flavorful. I can't stop eating this long dried sausage called Carnat, smoky and flavorful with a nice red color (not spicy). Also picked up a lamb salami that's really interesting. The staff is nice and will let you sample before you buy.

Amazing resource for smoked pork and sausages from Eastern Europe. Their specialty is Polish and Roumanian sausages and salamis that they produce Themselves They sell poor pastrami they sell fried pork rinds which is amazingly delicious and bad for you but so good! The smoky smell is overwhelming in a good way and hits you as soon as you walk in the door. Very nice and patient service and they are willing to let you sample almost anything from the meats. Last time I was there I tried a homemade bologna which reminded me more of Italian mortadella but which had olives and peppers studded in it, which was really delicious and very reasonably priced.

Walk in and the smell is intoxicating, you want to taste and buy everything in there. Go at an off time so you don't feel rushed... don't be afraid to ask questions, staff is really nice and knowledgeable.
