So everything is vegan, but everything is expensive. Meat isn't near the price of this. This is just ground up plants...... This is for rich vegans. My point is that veganism Is growing and people who struggle getting off meat would look for this, but when it's a treat that poor people can have once every 2 months it's not that good for those becoming vegan. Also think about this, if it's cheaper you sell more which would make up for the lowering in price.

I just had a BLT for the first time in over 20 years. It was so much better than I remembered and, thanks to H.B.'s hickory bacon, it was vegan and it was amazing. I cooked the bacon in a bit of peanut oil until it was crispy. Perfect. I also ate beer brats prepared the same way until they were golden brown. There is not the exterior snap of the casing (didn't miss it) but the interior has the exact texture of meat brats. They were so good, we ate them without buns. I can't comment on everything in the store, but I can say I'm hooked and will definitely visit again. Really excellent product. Thanks for what you do!

I am not vegan or vegetarian. I enjoy meat. I did eat here recently because the guy I was with happens to be vegan. I was totally surprised at how amazing the pastrami was! Honestly, I have no point of reference for vegan food, but, I mean...it's just good! I will be back (although I am NOT quitting meat) for the high quality food. Korean BBQ, you will be mine within the week! Added bonus: everyone in the place seemed to be smiling!

My wife and I ordered the vegan starter pack. Everything basically tastes the same but it’s formed into different shapes. The beef jerky was decent but unfortunately the rest of the products weren’t. I would recommend ordering a smaller portion to give it a try before dropping $135 on food that ends up in your garbage can. We had high hopes for this product and I’m disappointed it didn’t live up to the reviews.

This place is amazing! Incredibly inventive in their creation of vegan "meats" and "cheeses" that taste as good as the real thing -- or maybe better. The in-store experience is just like an old-fashioned deli, right down to the tiled floors and walls, the "butchers" in their aprons, and the orders all weighed out and wrapped in brown paper, by hand. The staff is terrific: friendly, helpful, personable and just the warmest, nicest folks. My only caution: DO NOT ORDER THEIR DELIVERY VIA GRUBHUB. Herbivorous Butcher used to partner with Bite Squad, and my deliveries were always flawless. After they switched to GrubHub, my very next order was a DISASTER! GrubHub lost my $200 order for my office, and 3 hours later it still was nowhere to be found. In the meantime, I hopped in a Lyft, went over to their shop and the lovely staff replaced my whole order for free. The GrubHub order never did show up, but GrubHub's so-called customer service team did offer to replace my $200 order with a $25 credit that would expire in 30 days. I'll be picking up my orders in person until they choose a better delivery partner.

If you put in your ads that you only get two ribs for $16 dollars or four sausages for $16. I don't think you would sell much product . Although I have not tried all the products yet and have no instructions to prepare them. Other than finding out from the website that they're fully cooked so mostly I will probably just have to heat them. I was pretty ashamed to show my wife what we waited almost a month for and got for our money. I hope I enjoy some of the products and can offer a better review in the future. 2 ND review. I have tried the products & love them. I will give you Two more Stars!

We just went for the first time today and got two subs plus two individual ribs - it was $35. So, our first impression was “Wow! This is expensive.” The Italian sub that we got was amazing, though. It blew our expectations out of the water. The turkey sub was just okay. The cheese was phenomenal - good enough to fool me into thinking it was dairy cheese! The turkey, however, was chewy and lacked flavor. The ribs were our least favorite part. Although they had good flavor, texturally they were spongey. Overall, I think there were some hits and some misses. We’ll definitely be back to try some more in the future.

The food was amazing and the service was great. One thing to know is that this is more of a deli than a sit down restaurant. There is outdoor seating but nothing indoor. Still, it's worth a visit. The Forrager sandwich is amazing. You would never guess it's vegan.

As a vegetarian I had high hopes for this "butcher". I sincerely went into this place with a great outlook. The food looks like it could pass for meat...no problem. The problem comes when you take a bite and the texture is completely rubber like. The taste is over seasoned to mask the taste of the wheat gluten. If you are adamant about trying this place, do not do what I did. Instead, buy sample/small amounts. I spent far too much for something I have to throw in the trash. I even had thoughts of eating meat, that's how horrible of an experience this was for me and my family....good luck.

The very best for locally made plant based meats and cheeses! It is a vegan landmark! Go and get some now! Recommend the Korean Ribs and Smoked Gouda for starters. Hot pressed sandwiches are also fantastic!

I went in to get the individual turkey for Thanksgiving and had pretty high expectations and faith for the flavor as they are known for their meats tasting close to the real thing, or at least being delicious even if you can tell it's vegan. The place was cool and the staff was friendly, however at Thanksgiving lunch I was disappointed to have spent $18 on what was just a pound of tofu with a little bit of seasoning. Perhaps it should be advised to eat as an addition to a meal rather than the main course as it was hard to swallow without potatoes or corn to help the taste. It was also the most dense tofu I've ever had. I really believe in what they do and am open to try their other "meats" however I think the turkey itself could use some perfecting.

Super tasty vegan “meats”, but the counter people are not friendly :( maybe they were just having a crummy day, but they have a “holier than thou” attitude, which makes it intimidating. The faux bacon is amazing, as are the brats.

The meatless meat was great. The wait was about 15 minutes. The place though, is just set up as a butcher shop. There is no deli or takeout or prepared food like the pictures indicate. It's just meatless meat and dairy free cheese. Still, absolutely loved it. It's about time some decent vegan fare came to the TC.

OMG I'm in love!! This is my 2nd day in a row in line at the food truck outside my job. I had the Mac of the Month, sweet potato fries and the "chicken" sandwich and greens. Food coma complete. I'm not vegan, but with the caliber of food they have to offer, I plan on subbing out meals with meat in favor of the Herbivorous Butcher. Please give it a try, you'll be so glad you did!!

The aesthetic of the shop is very cute, and I like the idea of a vegan "butcher shop." However, none of the "meat" looks very appetizing when you walk in.... It all looks like over processed, over seasoned chunks of doggo poo (and it basically tastes that way, too). The meats are very rubbery, and don't taste very good. I had a difficult time finishing the Korean ribs they were so gross. I don't know how this place has so many 5 stars, because the actual quality of the food is terrible. When I walked in I wasn't sure if I was even going to buy anything, and I'm glad I didn't get very much when I decided to. The "meats" are way over priced. You're better off going to the frozen section in the grocery store, and buying cheaper fake meat products-- it'll taste better and won't empty your wallet. (Don't be fooled by the picture, it actually tastes like BBQed rubber)

Over the past 15 years, I've eaten a lot of seitan, tofu, tempeh, mycoprotein, beans, grains, and other extruded plants fashioned into a veritable cornucopia of mock meats, faux turkeys, and ersatz cheeses. The Her'butcher makes hands down the best seitan and soy cheese I've ever had. Holy smokes, the smoked gouda is as delicious and convincing as the real deal down to the spreadable, creamy texture. The huli-huli ribs, too, are amazing! This place seriously knows what it's doing. The prices are a bit steep (shouldn't plant-meat be cheaper than mammal-meat?), so it might be difficult for some to make this is a regular go-to, but it makes for a fantastic treat.

Very pricey vegan meats, cheeses and grocery items. We had a couple of sandwiches from there, I did enjoy the breakfast sandwich, disappointed by the ‘pulled pork’. Took home some Korean ribs to serve to my family; everyone was disappointed. The ribs resembled very dense spongy bread. I’ll have to try some other items, but for now i’m not impressed, especially for the price.

I love love love this place. The porterhouse was amazing. We also got the Korean ribs and some of the delicious jerky. So good. I also impulse bought some of the cleverly placed vegan caramels by the register. The ghost pepper one is so spicy and delicious that I super regretted only buying one.

HB hands down has THE best vegan hot pressed sandwiches. I was extremely skeptical to try because I wasn't sure of what the texture would be like. If you're transitioning or partipating in #meatlessmondays these sandwiches are a perfect substitute for meat sandwiches. The taste and texture are so on point, I have to remind myself that I'm not eating meat. They have mastered this. I have no idea how but I just keep going back lol. Make sure to also visit their food truck around the city for the Braised Greens, Mac and Cheese and Fried Chicken Sandwich. As of 10/19/18 Good Lawd ... The new @thbfoodtruck Breakfast Sandwich is so damn good. The sausage is spiced so well and the just egg is the best replicate I've ever tasted. Love this unique vegan butcher place. We've tried Sriracha brats, Italian sausage, Korean ribs, and chocolate ice cream. Everything is vegan and delicious. Vegan cheese here is definitely a step up from grocery store stuff. Can't speak to the health benefits of processed soy products, but as an occasional indulgence it's fun.

Just got a ribeye steak from here and I must say that they do a fine job of matching the look and texture of the real thing. It even had juices oozing out of it like a real steak would. I don't know if it tastes like a real steak, but it tastes good. The shop looks and feels like a standard butcher shop, right down to the paper they use to wrap the "meats." They've really gone out of the way to let us vegetarians in on the classic American experience of visiting a butcher shop. Friendly staff too. I look forward to trying more of their selection. One minor suggestion for the owners: I tried your burger at J. Selby's. It's too much like a garden burger, which isn't a good thing since your goal is to simulate real meat. The bacon was great though!

This is truly a vegan butcher shop not a restaurant order and take it to go somewhere else. They have ribs and chicken and sausage. The sandwiches are amazing. Just remember this is not a restaurant! There are no tales and chairs you order you get it you leave! Do your research ahead if time know what you want before stepping up to the counter. These people are not your waiter nor waitress this is not a restaurant ! Order and Go. Take a selfie and go!

The place is clean, well organized and friendly. No complaints. The product does not live up to the hype. Korean ribs. Made some in the frying pan, some in the microwave. Both ways they were dry inside, not juice, flavor was not amazing either. Sausages, siracha packs a little punch, enjoyable. The other one i think was chorizo? Not sure. Enjoyable. Overall I am not a friend of vegan food trying to imitate meat products. They are definitely not succeeding in doing that. I understand that this is key to lure meat eaters in, doesn't help if it's not good. I will go back to try one of their sandwiches or other meals to see what their product does in combination with spices and veggies.

Amazing place and it's so cool to know that they are the first in the nation. I ordered the Korean BBQ Ribs and they are AMAZING. Everyone is really nice and the store was super clean. It is expensive, but so is cancer treatment in your 60s and 70s. Supporting these guys and fueling your body with the right kinds of foods are worth the cost in my opinion. I drove over 26 miles to check this place out, so you shouldn't have any excuse!

We really enjoyed our visit. I LOVE the queso dip. The pulled pork...honestly, the only thing that made it similar to pork was the visual aspect. It LOOKS like pulled pork. The dominant flavor was bbq sauce and it was watery (bc it’s actually jack fruit). Obviously they can’t appeal to every sense of the meat they’re trying to replicate so I found they relied heavily on the visual sense and spices. I’m an omnivore but I think this is an interesting place, interesting ideas, and definitely worth a visit. I’ll return.

Love this place, go there weekly. Super friendly and helpful staff. Can be a wait sometimes, but only because they're so busy. Love there grab and go sandwiches! A must visit for any vegetarian or vegan!

As a meat eater there are some things at The Herbivorous Butcher that I highly recommend, such as their deli meats & sandwiches. The deli meats that I tried for the most part tasted just like "the real thing". I was not a fan of their jerky though. The taste was okay, but it was hard to get past the moist texture.

hi there! what are you looking for today? today my friends and i (one vegetarian among us) went to check out a place we had been meaning to go to for a while now: the herbivorous butcher. as someone who has now worked at a real butcher shop for six weeks, i was very curious about what it would be like!tucked away in a quiet corner of the city, the herbivorous butcher is a shop that sells meat free meat, cheese free cheese, honey free honey, and other vegan versions of normal food. there were a few similarities to clancey’s: sausages, jerky, chicken, cheeses, deli meat, and many other products prepared in the kitchen were available for sale, as well as shelf stable items from other companies such as condiments and chips. soups and sandwiches were another thing in common. after eating my chipotle chowder and sampling my friends’ lunches (turkey and dill havarti and muffaleta) i was full but my taste buds were underwhelmed. the thing about the herbivorous butcher that displeased me the most, however, was their employees. there was no greeting when we walked in the door, no hubbub in the back of house, and the first staff/customer interaction i witnessed was a man who was being told he couldn’t buy a single strip of jerky, he had to get at least two or three. that seemed wrong… after ordering my lunch i attempted to strike up a conversation with the employees and ask some questions about their products and customers, but it was hard to get a straight answer from any of the three hip young folks on duty. i’ve definitely learned at clancey’s about the importance of customer service and knowing all there is to know about what’s in the case in the instance that someone has a question. where does this come from? how do you serve it? when was this made? what’s the most popular? what are the ingredients in this? how does it compare to this? i can tell you all of the answers. thanks for coming by! have a nice afternoon! Super cute shop with absolutely amazing product selections. You can get your vegan meats for the week, grab lunch to go, grab condiments for your meals and even some dessert options all in one spot. Try their Italian... Arguably the best sandwich I've ever had in my life.

Great product, the customer service has gone up, but my main dilemma is the pricing. You would think since it’s meat and dairy less it would be at least decently priced. I don’t eat from here often because of this. Other than that I do honestly believe it’s one of the best places to get vegan cheese. The smoked Gouda was like closing your eyes and tasting your childhood favorite meal in one tiny bite. I would recommend something other than the Gouda but so far everything I could afford from here has been good.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, tons of options to choose from! We have purchased cheese from here and just recently tried the sriracha brat and it was fantastic! Garlic pepper havarti is our favorite cheese from here.

The food, including the sandwiches, is really awesome. The ribs have a wonderful texture and aren't overly sauced. I also recommend the Sjaak truffles. The only problem is that everything is so ridiculously overpriced. You can get a plate of ribs that taste just as good in high quality vegan restaurants for half the price. Likewise, while I enjoyed the sandwiches, I did not enjoy paying $14 for them. It seems like the food is priced to reflect the admittedly cool and unique atmosphere of being in a vegan butcher shop, rather than based on the quality of the food.

You don't need to be a vegan to enjoy food from this place. In fact I hardly think you would even know the difference. Staff very knowledgeable about the products they sell as well as many other vegan options around twin cities. Ryan in particular was able to answer all questions from 5 different people while checking out customers, bringing out my Siracha brats, and giving samples to those who asked. Great food, great service, great staff. Visited 7-20-17 around 5pm. Will be back!

Had the Turkey dill havarti sandwich, it was delicious. Going to grab a few items to go and see how I like those also. Tried the cajun jerky, not a fan of the jerky texture at all. Definitely worth a visit. I do have agree with some other reviews that the prices are a bit steep.

I do not see many poor reviews which makes me wonder if the five star reviews are authentic. I feel like someone played a prank on me....I saw a video on FB about your products and I was extremely excited. I do not mind spending money on great quality foods. I was expecting more servings or ounces for the price. Some bites tasted like cardboard, rubber and occasionally I tasted something that was similar to ribs. Guys you need to be truthful about your products. You are advertising as if you have the best vegan products in the world. In reality, I have had better vegan options from the frozen food section at my local grocery store...Unfortunately, I am giving you one star because a zero star rating is not an option....I am sorry I had to leave such a bad review....

I'm not vegetarian, but I'm eating less meat. Last night we went out and I got a burger but asked for the Herbivorous Butcher patty instead. Had never heard of them, but thought I'd give it a go. It was SO GOOD! I had to confirm with the waitress that it was indeed the veggie patty. I'm excited to visit their shop and try some other products.

Been wanting to try this place for a while, the Huli Huli sandwich was awesome, the service was great, highly recommend to anyone, great food. Didnt take any picture of my sandwich cause it was first meal of my day after running around town all morning and early afternoon. Will be back again when I come down to Minneapolis from Duluth on the weekends.

You must go here. They sell big ribs and an assortment of cheeses they you simply can't get anyplace else. Need vegan feta? They got it. All fresh and the real deal. Thank goodness they are shipping food now.

Not a fan of their meat products so far. The only good one ive had so far is turkey. The cheese however, is great. Service was fast but the attitude of the person who served us was kind of aggressive. Also most things are way overpriced. The sandwich was good but not worth the price.

A vegan paradise in the middle of the cities! HB helped make last minute Valentine's dinner a hit! This spot has been on my list for awhile and I'm so glad I finally got there. It definitely won't be my last visit. The woman working the counter was very patient and helpful as I picked out a variety of meat and deli items. The smoked Gouda, chive cheddar, and BBQ ribs were awesome. They had a great variety - make sure to check their website to see what's available daily. I stopped in about 4pm and there was plenty to choose from. If you've heard the buzz and you're thinking about stopping in just do it! Maybe I'll see you there.

Herbivorious Butcher. I cannot really provide an unbiased review because my nephew works there. And I am not vegan. HOWEVER, we stopped in today and had three "bacon" lettuce and tomato sandwiches. The sauce and toppings were perfect. The "bacon" tasted and had a mouth feel exactly like bacon. And I would know as I had just been at a friend's house and eaten a few thick slabs of perfectly cooked bacon just that morning. I also loved the perfectly toasted bread. I actually *had* to start eating my perfectly portioned sandwich as I walked along to my destination because it was just so warm and I knew the bread was perfectly crisped and so on. It was a delight from the moment I unwrapped it and I savored it long after I had finished. It was a great sandwich. The staff was really nice and next time I will visit I will be purchasing one of their delightful "nope" t-shirts for my vegetarian daughter. Overall I was very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. I don't *think* I am just saying this because a relative works there, but please take what I am saying with a grain of salt just in case.

Got two different sandwiches, the breakfast and the philly cheese. Delicious- not healthy (wheat gluten, bread, and probably a lot of salt) but no regrets! Big portions for $10 sandwich. Friendly service. Recommend if you are vegan or just really like fake meat!

The Korean BBQ Ribs make it easy for me (often omnivorous, but tending toward wild game and organic vegetables) to share meals with my herbivorous wife. Parking is a bit tricky on the block, and there might be a line inside the store, but the staff is always helpful and friendly. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually opened more successful locations, or marketed their faux-meat in stores nationwide.

I would recommend the Italian sub, the Korean BBQ ribs, and the mozzarella cheese. They also have really awesome vegan candies (even a vegan butterfinger!!) Prices are a little high, but it’s totally worth it for the high quality products that you get.
