I only shop there when I have too. They took away many good features about the store. Martin's shows it doesn't care about the Near Northwest side neighborhood. Many of the items i was used to buying has been removed. So I shop at the newer Martin's or Meijer.

I really want to support my local, neighborhood Martin's but they don't carry much in the way of organic choices. We begged for years for gluten free staples like bread and they finally got some but organic is sketchy at best. They don't think their clientele want it despite a growing group of health conscious residents in the Near Northwest Neighborhood. Friendly staff and clean store though.

Customer service is still good. I was happy to see some familiar faces when I went in, as several employees had talked about transferring to other Martin's stores. Was not impressed with the color scheme whatsoever. A bit tacky in my opinion. I'll shop there because it's convenient. Maybe it'll grow on me.

The prices are too high if you don't have transportation and can't get to any other major large chain grocery you're screwed they take advantage of the people that live near them who don't have transportation and all you have to do is look really look around and compare prices you see going to Portage meat and Market is not a bargain it may be convenient but it's not a bargain

The city wouldn't consider building a Fresh Thyme somewhere in the area huh? It's a health disparity. Equality vs. equity. And just to think they never considered closing the liquor store on the corner.

This morning (9/3/2016), around 7:30am, give or take a few minutes, I stopped in and purchased two donuts(1-long John & 1-glazed cinnamon ), get home and just so happened to turn the glazed cinnamon over and the bottom has green and black spots on it. So, I drive back to Martin's and go to the service desk, the clerk tells me, in a not so friendly customer service way, O that's cinnamon, I stated to her since when is cinnamon blackish or green, well she says, we bake our donuts fresh everyday, so it's just cinnamon, and O well just get another one. I wish I could remember her name(shame on me), but I'll know her when I see her. I've been shopping at this Martin's since I had my first summer job, and I've never, ever, encountered such rude customer service.

On today I was totally surprised to see things they have in that store. Which is at Dollar Tree and Dollar General for a dollar each price. But at this store it's 4 for 5:00 dollars. The smell has gotten even stronger. When first open I was quite impress, but now going back there to shop. I was amaze at prices and smell. Overall I'm fairly disappointed with the rebranding and remodel of this store from Martin's Supermarket to Portage Meat & Market. Occasionally they'll have good deals on steaks, but more often than not the selection is poor at best. Still, as the only grocery store in the Near Northwest/LaSalle Area neighborhoods, I would rather have this than nothing at all.

been a loyal customer since it opened. just went grocery shopping here but when i got home i realized the salami i bought was rotten. it was horrible tasting and it smelled bad.i kept my receipt and went back to the store. when i tried to get a refund they told me it wasn’t on the receipt but it was. the manager had a terrible attitude towards me as well acting like i stole something. also when the cashier was ringing me up , she was throwing and slamming my food on the counter. 10 out of 10 would not go back again. too much attitude and terrible customer service.

The Hardware Dept is awesome, they have most everything you need for your home projects. The Hardware Manager will cut glass, and plexiglass. They have assorted hose and FDA approved tubes. You really need to stop by and walk around.

The store smells like rotten meat. The wings are purple!!!!!!! The chicken wings have a purplish color on them. The bones in the wings are brittle, they break off while eating them. It's several other problems. I decided to go back ti Martin's grocery. Also the store still smells.

I could never put in words the amount of love and support the entire staff has shown to our family as they ,too, considered her their work family. Thank you for the love you have shown us. Still reminds me of Martin’s. Even having some martins price tags on the shelves, the same stock, and essentially the same set up. Staff is friendly and helpful, however, with most local markets, it seems a bit dated. Otherwise a pretty skookum store for grocery shopping.

Just popped into martins meat and market on portage in south bend. It is FILTHY!!!! Shame on Martins for letting a store in a lower income area be so TERRIBLE. It also smelled bad. There was one cashier with a huge line of people waiting to check out. Trash laying on the floor in the entrance was a nice welcome. Shame on martins!!!! I’m sure this is why martins was removed from the name.

Place has been changed from a Martians to a Portage M&M so I am re-writing my review for the new store. I'm glad they changed to this new store. There stock seems to stay full and the overall building is cleaner and friendly. Has some great deals too. This is going to be my new go to place for things I need in between full shopping trips.

I "grew up" in this neighborhood and it was always horrifyingly trashy, dangerous and depressing. I even worked here when it was still the og Martins in the early 1990s. Little did I know the way it was back then was quaint and relatively harmless compared to the dystopia this store and its surroundings are now. It's just sad.

Don t waste your money here... they sell rotten produce spoiled meat and out dated dry goods. When you address it with the management or employees they get an attitude with you or just shrug it off. It's OK, or in some departments. better than OK for what it is - which is a market whose target customers aren't typically the upscale clients that the larger stores in the Martin's chain aim for. It's probably right for the location and clientele, and it provides a valuable community service - good quality, decent selection, reasonable variety - and a reasonable cost. However, if you want gourmet and/or deli items, you won't find them here.
