This Butcher Shop belongs to the category of Gourmet grocery store.
Has everything I was looking for and more. Could do all my grocery shopping here.
A Cambridge institution! The butcher shop here is legendary for good reason. It is the best meat you can get in this city. The staff is very knowledgeable and happy to help you decide the best cut of meat for your culinary schemes. I go here when I want to impress my guests and it works every time.
First time I've seen Mint Jelly anywhere.
True to what everyone says, their meat is great in quality. Even the frozen ones. I tried their venison, wild boar and fresh squab. They were all very good. The rack of venison was particularly excellent. They also have $9 serving size slices of foie gras, which are very good. There are many exotic meat in freezer, from iguana, kangaroo to python filet.
Excellent selection of freshly butchered meat. Interesting salads, cheese, and other goodies.
it's expensive, but they have some amazing food, especially the wild boar sausage
Amazing small town service in the middle of a big city.
Looking for a strange egg or mushroom? Want fancy meat? How about gourmet beans? Savenor's is there for you. Also chocolate bars.
Simply the highest quality meat you can get in Boston. Have had multiple steaks from here and they have all been fantastic. (Sausage as well!) Those who work their are well informed and helpful.
High-quality ingredients for your weekend chef. And a collection of cheeses to die for!
Great selection of meats like no other
I went today to the store to buy fish. The butcher was not there and nobody knew where he was. I am very sorry to say I had to leave very disappointed.
I don't get the great appeal for this place to be honest, the prices are out of this world and the pre-made dishes are not really to die for. It carries my favorite salsa tho (Veracruz smoky, great with sour cream)
Spoiled food, refrigeration at unsafe temperatures
They are extremely rude, unprofessional, and most obviously racist. If you can't hire employees that assist all walks of life, color, creed, or religious beliefs, then close down. 1 star for the variety of
Wonderful Market with a wide variety of choices. A nice selection of French, multigrain, and other interesting breads. The cheese counter is especially nice, there are a lot of choices and variety available in a small space. You have to take your time to really see what is there. The person I spoke to, I cannot remember her name, knows her cheese, and takes it seriously, as in she's excited about it! This is really nice to find in a small market, someone who knows about the products and can discuss the finer details of the cheese they are offering. I inquired about Rush Creek Reserve, and she was excited to talk to me about it. Either they had sold out, or did not have it this time around. It is only available in the Fall every year. They have a nice selection of other grocery items to go with your cheese selection.
Impressive selection of meats and offal, great dry aged beef!
Great products and great people working there. You end up leaving with a smile on your face and with great food
This place has exceptionally high quality meat and fish. The produce is very good, as well, but not necessarily better than Whole Foods, where things tend to be less expensive. (However, this is the only place I know of where ghost chili peppers can be purchased, so there are exceptions!) Savenors is definitely my go-to place for organic/free-range (etc) protein, but I try to avoid getting other things here because the convenience of one-stop shopping is not worth the price (just look at the cost of a gallon of milk!).
Hell, Julia Child shopped here... I think that says enough, eh? Come here for extremely unusual and high end meats in particular, but for a small shop, they have everything you need for a delicious meal with the highest of quality ingredients! Produce and cheese prices are comparable to Whole Foods, so don't be intimidated by Savenor's reputation and head on in!
Overpriced but I guess that’s what you get for small businesses in high-end areas. However the one star goes to the cashier who was rude and made it obvious she wanted me to leave so she could close up. Talk about the ugly side of passive aggressive!
This place has some cool exotic meats along with fresh produce.
Great selection of exotic meats
The best steaks in town.
Good selection but they were quite rude. Wouldn't recommend.
Def ffdr
Nice choice of tidbits and single portion delicious foodstuff. Nice staff and more important, an opportunity to park nearby while shopping, a rarity in Beaconhill.
Fresh, fresh, fresh! Such a cute little store with a great FRESH selection! Definitely visit the meat counter and get some cold cuts, cheese, or fresh cuts of meat! Did you get the hint...? It's fresh!!
The best.
Amazing selection and great meats. Need rattlesnake? They have it here!
Go to Savenor's for fresh meats, cheeses & to discover other wonderful finds! Never disappoints.
Great butcher. They have a good selection of meats available.
Great foodie treats. We held a Robert burns supper in January. And the haggis was wonderful. And that is saying something. Love their cheese and meats.
I got camel steaks! Anyway, the staff was helpful and friendly. Variety was great for game meats.
(Translated by Google) I think this butcher is the best in Boston. it's recommended. (Original) ボストンではこの肉屋がベストだと思います。おすすめです。
Personal and delicious. They're competing with the mighty corporate Whole Foods down the road so we love to support them!
You want specialty meats? Fish? Veggies? Anything?? Then Savenor's is honestly your place to go. You name it they have it. And if they don't they'll get it for you. If there's one market I would trust for food it's here.
So I was looking to buy some pork jowls, and was familiar with Savenor's other location so I decided to try them first. I called them at the beginning of the week, and they said they had a whole animal coming in on Wednesday, and that they'd reserve the jowls for me to pick up that night (and from a 600 lb hog no less!). They took my name and number when I called. I showed up Wednesday night, and told the butcher (didn't get his name) about my order. He couldn't seem to locate the slip with my info, and looked around for a while for the jowls. After a while he told me that the head had been frozen before having the jowls removed by accident. He said it hadn't been frozen for very long, and that he'd take it out then, to have ready for me the following night, and he'd knock the price down by half. It's not easy to get there from where I work, but I said ok. I show up thursday night, and it's a different guy behind the butcher counter (despite the fact that the guy who I talked to in the shop on Wednesday said he'd be there on Thursday to personally give me my order). I describe what happened the previous night, and he went off to look... and look... and look. After a while he comes out and tells me it's still frozen, and that I can come back the next day, and he'll give it to me for free. So at this point I've skipped out of work a tiny bit early two days in a row to get here before they close. I'm not about to do it a third time, so I tell him I'll be in Saturday on my day off. I make sure to give him my name and number again. So that brings us to today. At this point I thought it would be prudent to call ahead and make sure they have it this time. I call, describe why I'm calling, and am met with... confusion. He ends up telling me that the order that was supposed to come in Wednesday hadn't arrived, but that they had it now (but that it was frozen still). This seemed a little weird, because if the order hadn't arrived Wednesday, why were the employees telling me that a head (the one that had been frozen, and presumably a whole animal as well) had come in that day. He says he can thaw it in an hour, and will take the jowls off for me. I don't know how they were planning on thawing it, but the head from a 600 lb pig is unlikely to thaw in an hour. He also tells me he'll give me some already curing pork jowls for free, like he's doing me a favor, when I had already stated that the whole reason I was ordering the jowls was to cure and dry the meat myself. I declined his offer. Not to mention that had I gone ahead and got the jowls, I'm not sure I'd even be able to cure and dry it properly after the meat had been fully frozen. Overall the place seemed terribly unorganized, and the staff seemed rather apathetic about the whole affair. I'm a really patient person, and work in the food industry myself so I'm predisposed to be a little extra forgiving in areas such as these, but after trekking around in the freezing cold, spending money on bus fare and losing a little time at work, I don't think I'll be doing business with them again.
Savenor's is a fantastic butcher and market. Excellent cuts of meat, from Wagyu Ribeye to rare game!
Can be pricey, but great quality.
Very good market. Excellent small but well-stocked supermarket with selected products from all over the world.
"German" Weißwurst doesn't taste like a weißwurst. It's too chunky, greasy and overpriced. ALDI has better Weißwurst.
Overall excellent place. However very expensive thus 3 stars. They carry a good variety of cuts. In addition to aged and kobe beef.
A very nice place.
Absolutely fantastic market with many choices and plenty of duck options
This place has a great selection, is clean, and tend to be less expensive. I receommend over and over again.
Mmmm, I love this place. Freshest local meats, best selection of exotic and game meats, and best seasonal produce. Where else could I get garlic scapes and squash blossoms? They make amazing sausages and pâtés. Local pastas, goat butter, marrow butter, haggis, all sorts of hearts, livers, and brains, duck eggs, and legendary wagyu beef. Anything you can't get at whole foods, and they're great with requests. I also have to say their new cheese monger is amazing. It's hard to find some of my favourite rare cheeses, but they always seem to show up there. But where else am I supposed to go in Boston for a shoulder of wild boar, a cut of ostrich, incredible local lamb, alligator, python, a selection of foie gras, giannone chicken, or all sorts of wagyu? Savenor's is amazing. And somehow their seasonings are way better than the ones I've gotten anywhere else.
Really love this place. I called on Valentines Day looking for fresh Black Truffle mushrooms... Boom, they had them. They are pricey but the fact that they are near impossible to find was a huge blessing. This place, along with their other location in Cambridge, have a large variety of meat, produce, and other exotic ingredients. Be ready, this place is pricey though (but worth it).
Just ate my elk as a burger. Man that was tasty. Thank you Dave for the great customer service.
Fresh tasty food and the service is grate. Also the meat departments has all fresh meat.
Incredible meat, but quite expensive.
The people at the deli counter were very helpful! I had some excellent spicy coppa and sorpressata. Everything here is sooo good.
A Cambridge classic. Pricey but well worth the money if you want excellent meats and/or an interesting selection of gourmet foods. I've always had great service and their butchers are knowledgable and very helpful. The dry aged meats are amazing and if you ever get a chance to buy the butter burgers you will not be disappointed!
A foodie's dream. All the cuts of meat you want like skin on chicken beasts, kobe steaks etc. Great selection
High quality meat is available there!
Exceptional food for exceptionally high prices. This seems to make sense to somebody...
It is expensive, but I especially like their fig with almond "cake", the Sophia sheep goat yogurt, their delicious grape leaves, sesame seaweed crackers, lentil soup, gelato ice cream, blueberries, They make their own sandwiches--I look for their Italian Grinder. Their raw vegetables are always excellent quality and fresh, as is their meat and fish. Sometimes I'll call in advance for a half roasted chicken with no salt or seasonings, which is always delicious. The staff at the meat/fish department are always very polite, friendly and helpful, as are the cashiers. I went over two days after Thanksgiving (Nov. 24, 2018) for their blueberries and noticed that they had a roasted chicken dinner available, with mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing. But they also had roasted turkey legs, thighs, and wings. I selected a roasted turkey leg, thigh, and wings. They were delicious, moist, and roasted perfectly. My cat was very pleased, as well.
Been here multiple times. Got pork shoulder for slow cooking tacos and ground sirloin for burgers. The service is great. Lots of good prepared meals as well.
A truly exceptional establishment
Friendly staff that were willing to order whatever meat you wanted. Great selection of meats from lamb, to beef, pork, chicken, duck, etc. Exotic meats in the freezer had duck hearts, iguana, ox tail, squab. Also had a small selection of freshly caught tuna steaks, salmon, and cod fillets. Fresh veggies and fruits were available as well. Would definitely come back here!
