On Saturday, 9/15/18, I bought an Italian sub at Penn Avenue Meats just before closing & ate it soon thereafter (still cold). I had a few bites left over so I removed the bread & gave it to my 4 yr old German Shepherd. Within a few hours after eating we both had projectile vomiting. It was the only food I ate that day. I don’t eat dog food so that sub was the only food common to dog and me. My dog has never ever been sick before this day. After our stomachs emptied we were both back to normal; food-bourne illness to be sure. On Monday I phoned to alert the Manager of the fact that his store is selling some bad food. I was very nice & polite (raised that way). The Manager seemed disinterested & dismissive. He did apologize (once) but sounded insincere. He never once asked for my name & never offered to compensate me for my upsetting purchase. “I’ll look into it”: Bagel-licious subs are much better, the Owners more friendly, & I have never puked up their food after eating it. Just saying. If poor customer service & painful vomiting is your thing then stay with Penn Avenue Meats and good luck! Zero stars & I DEFINATELY do not reccomend!

I have lived in town for going on 10 yrs now, when I first got here I was told that Hoffman's was the best place to go. Well I only have been to Hoffman's 2 or maybe 3 times and the truth is Penn ave meats is better and the only complaint I have is I can't buy more from them everything looks so good and fresh you want to buy everything in the store makes you hungry.

First time visiting there as I am new in town. This place is fantastic! The food there is wonderful and very reasonable as far as prices go. The meat is very good quality, far better than the grocery store and the price is right! I bought some chicken and was extremely pleased that night when I baked it. I didn't have to season as much because the flavor was that good! I will definitely be coming back for more!

Used to love this place. Recently visited after not having been there for a while. I bought 3 containers of chicken salad. One for me, my mom, and my aunt. That night me And my husband had sandwiches for dinner. The salad was horrible! It has tons of little hard pieces of something gross we can't even identify. My mom thought bone, i thought gristle. Trust me when i tell you it was disgusting.... and unfortunately makes me wonder about everything else there. None of us will be returning.

This place is perfect! I find this shop a very nice place that gives you a friendly atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, seeming to know the customers very well. The food is so good too, pre made and fresh cooked sandwiches. There’s a variety of options and you can never leave the shop empty handed! Prices are good as well.

Always a great selection of fresh meat and friendly staff. My wife and daughter got a cheeseburger as well and it was excellent. They could tell the freshness and quality of the meat and it was excellent cooked on the flattop. I'll be back on Friday to pick up some of their awesome smoked sausage for our new years day dinner.

As a meat lover, I'm a bit let down by this place that is intended specifically for meats. We typically get the sausages here, but I don't think I will be any more because the nearby Dutch market has what I would consider much better ones. We tend to get their sides for the boys (children) to eat and while they do not taste bad, most of them are not very good either. For anyone that isn't a meat critic, do not take my word on the beef too seriously, because I tend to eat organic, grass-fed, and usually prime meats. As such, I do not find the other meats here to meet many standards and while that is somewhat expected, as a place meant specifically for meats, I feel it should be of more decent quality. However, the meats here are good and the jerky is excellent. The workers are kind and the place smells wonderful, and there are a number of choices that are of greater quality than the rest.

Probably the only thing I like about Hagerstown. Among the dozens of fast-food restaurants and Wal-marts in this shitty city, Penn Ave Meats is a hidden gem. I wish I could take them back to Bethesda with me. High Quality meat and very affordable! They make a delicious cheeseburger with all fresh ingredients for only $2.69!!

Fantastic service and incredibly friendly staff. Their products are well worth the trip from Martinsburg to purchase. Everything is fresh and packaged to order. They do have a great selection of hard-to-find meats as well. If you're ever in the Hagerstown area, definitely stop in and look around.

I am the first person to thank someone and be appreciative when I receive great service unfortunately that is not the case here......I called to speak with Roger at Penn Ave meats about buying some expensive meat from them on a commercial level. We wanted to know if they would slice meat and put a piece of paper between each few slices. Roger immediately went on a tangent about how I'm calling him he's not calling me, something about how he's sure I'm going to want the best price , how he's going to need to pay an employee to do that, and I'm probably going to want to pick it up early in the morning. Now at this point I had simply asked if he could do this for me. I was looking to give them business. He gave me every reason possible as to why he didn't want my business rather than how he could help us and gain our business. If they can't put a piece of paper between 4-5 slices of meat they may be in the wrong business. We will take our Business elsewhere. Nothing special here...very disappointing

They also have take-out home made soup, salads, etc. This place is amazing.... plus they have a great butcher shop with outstanding friendly, knowledgeable butchers to serve you. A wonderful place !!! I stop every time I am in Hagerstown.
