We've got all the feddbacks of people like you who consume the products of Village Meat Market & Café (Butcher Shop) in Iowa.
To this day the firm has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 and this score was based on 88 reviews.
As you can read, the average of ratings is practically the best one, and it's based on a very high number of feddbacks, so we can say that the valuation is very credible. If many people have bothered to rate when they are pleased, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to set scores when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Butcher Shop is included in the category of Butcher shop.
Marvelous meats, great service and cool live jazz. And don't forget the hot potato salad!
I was just there today for the first time and holy "smoke" that was some good vittles. Everything is homemade and extremely delicious. I'm looking forward to trying all their eclectic dishes. Had to grab some "Butcher's Loaf" to take me back to my younger days. I love Czech Village and the Newbo area. It's our city's cultural center. Update: Me and a friend of mine each purchased a "Butcher's Loaf" and we both got sick from it. Back in the day the "Loaf" was still warm from the oven (or wherever). Now it sits in a refrigerator until they unload it on unsuspecting victims. One more place I'll avoid for this day forward. Kind of a bummer, because I love Czech Village and I want it to thrive.
Excellent homemade pastrami on fresh bread. Ill be going back soon!
Amazing staff and some of the best smoked meats you will find in the Midwest! Their Prime Rib sandwich melts in your mouth, so good! The restaurant has a ton of personality and I always have a wonderful time when I stop in.
I visited the Village Meat Market for the first time, breakfast (Saturday, December 29, 2018) and enjoyed the: Cowboy Quiche A hash brown crust filled with eggs, cheese, veggies and butcher loaf meat topped with cheese and breadcrumbs. $3.95 The Cowboy was not assembled as described on the menu, instead of all things in the quiche it was served as a separate mini quiche baked in a muffin pan, most likely earlier in the week with some spinach in it and cheese melted on top when reheated; the butcher loaf was cut into slices and fried with the hash browns and served on top of them, with a side of "cooling sauce" (see attached picture). Although differing from the description in the menu the meal was enjoyed. I particularly liked the fried butcher loaf (meat loaf). The "cooling sauce" is a whole lot of dill in ranch dressing; never would have thought of putting those together but very tasty. And let me remind you of the price, $4.00?!? Supper high value. My friend and I enjoyed the eclectic decor and I really got a kick out of the men's bathroom (see attached images). Coffee was good and I walked away with a couple of candied bacons on a stick.
After eight years in Iowa - Best sandwiches in Iowa by a long shot!!
Love this place. Great food and an excellent addition to Czech Village.
The Diana sandwich is delicious! Just a great sandwich!
Great food in an eclectic setting.
Visiting ceder Rapids saw the high reviews. The hype is true. GetGtheGe Cajun Reuben it's not spicy so good cottage cheese is good too. Will come back.
My wife and I went after church this afternoon. The service was excellent and personable, very casual. We enjoyed a great meal and live music (man with guitar, folksy blues).
First time visiting and I must say, I will definitely be back! Great smoked meats and creations. Love the fact that it's also a meat market and you can purchase and view the meats you are eating
On my first visit, I stopped in for a very late lunch. The friendly woman told me to sit wherever I like in the empty room and I was quickly drawn into the unique menu. I ordered the goulash and she suggested leaving room for beignets, so I said sure. The goulash quickly came out piping hot with a hearty tomato sauce peppered with chunks of beef and large dumplings layering the bottom of the bowl. I only ate half so I could enjoy a half serving of beautifully fried beignets dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by some sort of apple butter sauce. The four large beignets would actually be enough for two people, but I happily finished the whole plate. Throughout my meal, friendly employees checked on me multiple times to make sure everything was satisfying. I grabbed some jalapeno brats from the meat counter before heading out the door. I'm eager to come back again and try something else off the menu and possibly see some live music as well. Given the very reasonable prices, friendly staff, and deliciously unique cuisine, I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone with an appetite.
Ate there earlier today for the first time with a couple of coworkers and it was by far one of the best meals I've had of late. It was fun and interesting as well as a nice change of pace from the norm in cedar rapids.
The food was spectacular. It tasted authentic and incredibly delicious. The staff was very relaxed and very helpful when it came to accommodating dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was cozy and the perfect place to wait out a rainstorm as they make it clear that you are in no rush to leave. I cannot give this place enough stars.
If it’s legal, they smoke it. I want to try one of everything there!
Good breakfast
The Village Meat Market & Cafe was our choice for a group lunch on a visit to Cedar Rapids. Upon our arrival, the cafe was very busy, but but we were seated right away. Each person in our party chose a different menu item: pulled pork sandwich, Pastrami and swiss sandwich, goulash, and the Village schnitzel. After ordering, we were pleased to hear the musician return from a break and begin playing live music during the lunch hours. Thanks to the reviews and recommendations of others, we did have a half order of the Beignets and they were delicious! We even managed to take home another order of Beignets, a few loaves of the house-made Reuben bread, and pastrami! Not only was the food outstanding, but the service as well. We were welcomed, checked on, and felt like the staff cared about our experience. The Village Meat Market & Cafe is the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a great lunch, and the company of your companions.
It's in the name Village [MEAT] Market
Ribs. No joke. Take it from a KC bbq fan.. these are legit, no rub, low smoke baby backs with a great sweet and spicy sauce.
Live music Saturdays 11am-2pm ... lots of fun. Meatloaf sandwich is not like your mother’s! Highly recommend.
I've only visited the butcher area of Village meat market and man I must say that it was incredible! Aside from giving me samples of a number of the meats that they smoke in house, they told me about the preparation and finally gave VA chunk of a newly smoked corned beef. As a voracious and particular carnivore it excites me to say that the corned beef from Village meat market maybe my favorite meat! We're excited to come back and check out the restaurant.
Really enjoyed our lunch. Their BBQ sauce was great! Having recently moves from South Carolina I was not too sure of finding good BBQ up here but we were very pleased with the ribs and brisket.
Great pastrami (lean like I like it) Pulled pork and brisket very tasty. Nice homemade bread. Baked beans a meal in itself. I'll be back....from California.
I love coming here with my parents for a great lunch. The atmosphere is relaxed and really enjoyable. You will love any choice you pick from the menu as all choices are delicious, authentic, and generous in portion. The staff and owners are wonderful and always make you feel right at home. Everything is home made. Make sure to try Grandma's German Potato Salad! She makes it herself and it's the best!
Great Ruben sandwich. Will definitely be back to try the rest.
Lou always makes the best. She works hard for her customers and I appreciate it.
This was our first time there and the food was outstanding! Also enjoyed the live music as well.
friendly staff and the best tenderloin I've ever tasted
Great service and great food I will go back.
Great Lunch Spot excellent Price Point Meats smoked in house. Soups hearty and flavorful. All around wonderful go to
Great Reuben. Many other interesting choices. Pleasant staff proud of the artistry of their cuisine. Will have to go back!
Special trip from west central Missouri to visit a friend, and staked this place out ahead of time. I knew what I'd want before I ever got there. A pleasant surprise was the live music that was being played when we arrived. They cleared a table to make room for two more customers. I ordered the pastrami & swiss. The baked beans were "highly" recommended for my side dish. I chose to go with fries and beans, and I asked for a sample of the smoked brisket. The sandwich was very good, and I'm happy that I got it. The beans were ok, but not a "highly recommended" item. The brisket barely had any smoke flavor, and no smoke ring visible. It had a dry rub on it, but really just tasted like a roast. There may be some good artisan items on the menu, but I would be careful in your choices. People don't appreciate when someone is trying to fool them. We had a decent lunch and a good time, but I would like to have had an experience closer to what I expected, as advertised. When in the area, I may go back, but I will ask for more detailed information about products, instead of the wishy washy answers that I got.
Glad we ate lunch here. Great food and reasonably priced. Every bite was good! We'd do it again!
The food here is great. We are from SD & get to Cedar Rapids a couple times a year. We make a point of eating here at least once each trip. The staff are wonderful & add character to the already tastey food. It's hard to walk out without taking something home from the meat case.
This Village Meat Market & Cafe is such a nice place. Good people with awesome food.
Don't skip the beignets.
Great food! If you are looking for Czech food look no further
Amazing! Make sure to get a side order of Beignets!
Great food
Really tasty food. I highly recommend ordering one czech dish and something from the smoker. Best meal we've had in a long time. Ask what's good - they'll make sure you get what you're after.
Best Ruben I have ever had! Along with some German potatos makes a tereffic lunch! Must go and try them out.
The food and service are always great here! I will certainly be back!
Saturday morning blues, muffeleta, and great service.
Stopped by this restaurant while on a business trip. Excellent service and one of the best Pastrami sandwiches I have ever put in my mouth. So glad we stopped by and checked this place out!
This is an outstanding casual lunch spot in Cedar Rapids. When our families visit from NC and TN, we bring them here for good, flavorful comfort food! The menu is fairly small, which I always consider a good thing because it usually means a restaurant does a few dishes exceptionally well, and that is indeed the case with the Village Meat Market & Cafe. Because the people in my group all order different dishes, I have sampled almost everything on the menu and nothing has been disappointing. We all clean our plates! (That said, the Village Schnitzel is my personal favorite.) I recommend ordering 1/4 or 1/2 lb of the smoked salmon with dill sauce as an appetizer for the table before your meal arrives. My dad bought nearly 2 lbs of it to put on ice and take back to TN - it's that good, and reasonably priced. I never leave without taking home some of the sausages or smoked/deli meats from the meat case, and the dark bread loaves are to die for and great for toast the next day.
This place is an absolute gem! Amazing smoked meats, Beignets on par with the best from New Orleans, and a combination of Czech and Southern food that is top notch. If you live in eastern Iowa you MUST make this a regular stop, and if you are visiting Cedar Rapids hunt the place down!
Great place, helpful staff, tasty food, and friendly atmosphere. The owner is wonderful and sat down for a few chats to tell me about the food, local entertainment, and the history of the menu. I had the butcher loaf sandwich, goulash, and beignets. The goulash isn’t your traditional midwestern style with macaroni, but rather an old world hearty recipe that is apparently over 100 years old. I thought it was excellent. The butcher loaf sandwich had the perfect blend of meat, onions, and other ingredients. Not too much catsup, the bread was fresh and tasty, and just enough cheese. Finally the beignets are not to be missed. Well worth a visit if you’re in Cedar Rapids. I’ll most certainly stop again next time I’m in town.
Love the unique atmosphere at Emil's Hideaway! The have an awesome bar and they also have a beautiful large fish aquarium in the bar area, which is a big hit, especially if someone is dining with kids!! The gook is really good as well and the beer is the coldest I've ever had!
Really tasty Czech specialties... home cooked feel.
Amazing food! Great vibes, and they have live music every now and then which is great! Really good quality food and the staff is amazing!
Lou and her staff provide a fun venue and a great menu. Her service is always A+!
Great Czech
Waiter was amazingly! The food was really good food, filling!
Went and sat down, weren't even looked at for 15 minutes and it wasn't that busy..
Wonderful food! A hidden treasure of Cedar Rapids. Good service, too.
Fabulous place for lunch in Czech Village featuring old country recipes such as goulash with superb dumplings but also great smoked fish and meats by the pound and dark rye bread. Owner’s years in New Orleans very evident here as well. All in a low key and comfortable setting and very reasonable prices. Two visits and would return tomorrow!
Great food and service! Love Lou's passionate personality.
We really enjoyed our experience at Village Meat Market & Cafe. The food was great and reasonably priced. I loved the schnitzel which came with potatoes and candied red cabbage. We like the candied red cabbage so much, we bought more to take home. And their rye bread, which is home made and has a ton of stuff in it, was so good we bought 2 loaves to take home also. And the staff was just amazing. Service was friendly and fast. Would definitely recommend it as a must stop!
Literally went in to use the ATM, so glad I did, glanced at the menu... A wonderfully richly flavored secret family recipe Czech goulash and perfectly prepared beignets were my surprise delight. Family style seating, live rhythm and blues, a treat. Update: went back for the schnitzel... Red cabbage, warm potato salad, dark bread... Perfect... And of course, another order of beignets... Will be back next time I'm in Cedar Rapids.
I can't give less, or I would. 5 item breakfast menu and it still took forty five minutes and we were second in line on a two top. Food finally shows and it was cold. How you can serve a cold fried egg is a mystery. Whatever you do don't mention the time to the cook/manager type person. Rotten, do not eat here.
Excellent sandwich creations, and a nice eclectic atmosphere. Good for lunch.
My family and I had a great lunch there today! Very good food and excellent staff!
Great food and people
Best food ever!
I usually don't do reviews, but love this place!
The perfect place for coffee and breakfast. I mean perfect. Great staff and great menu for eating in or taking home.
