I could probably give 5 stars here. But they don't do a shave, just a buzz with the clippers. It's a service I definitely don't mind paying for. This place is a good backup for where I normally go, Groom. I go here when I'm too busy to have made an appointment or am feeling a little more frugal. I haven't had any trouble getting in; and today is the Saturday before Christmas and everyone is booked. They'll try get you in and they appreciate the business.

This was an awesome haircut. At $15 for a cut/style, shampoo, warm towel, and shoulder massage at the end, you will not find a better deal. I've seen places charge $25 - $30 for the same thing. Oh, and no to mention, the cut turned out great! I had Alysha, and she was friendly and attentive, and did an excellent job with the trim and style. Got me exactly what I was looking for. If you want a morbidly obese woman to destroy your classical style male haircut after giving specific directions for how to trim your hair, this is the place for you. She didn't handle the scissors for more than 60 seconds. Shamu even maliciously buzz cut the hairs I specifically mentioned to leave longer so that they didn't colic. Got out of there before she did any more damage – offered to pay, they refused. Going to take 2-3 months to get the length back to where it should be have trimmed to originally.

Loved it all. For 16 bucks you get a haircut, shampoo and conditioner hair was, and a Shoulder massage. While getting your cut you can watch the game and while waiting for your cut you can sit in really nice leather arm chairs and eat some peanuts. They know what they are doing and did a very ni e job on my hair. Would reccomend for all men and I will be going back for my next cut.

Husband got cut on the neck and one other area, and overcharged. The hair stylist was called Kendra. He had a beard trim, which was an additional $8. With the haircut and beard trim, total was $24, plus a $3 tip. I read another review that said the guy got a cut and trim for just $16? Overall, my husband rates them a 3.5 because they had coffee and TV, and they were fast with the service.

Going back to "Mondas". The barbershop had the most snobby and rude employees I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. I live 45 minutes away. Had an appointment at 10am today. I was at the Reiner rd exit and 10:02 almost there. When I get the most ridiculous phone call about how I'm late and have to reschedule. The woman was clearly having a bad day and took it out on me. I felt like I was getting chewed out by my mom. Except this girl was probably 20 at best. Unprofessional and rude. Thanks for wasting an hour and a half round trip over two minutes. Good riddance

Most places charge $16 for a haircut and that's all you get. Here you get much more, after your haircut you get a shampoo and conditioner wash with a hot facial towel, a beard trimming(if needed) and a neck and shoulder massage. All for $16.

I made an appointment the day ahead. I showed up early for my appointment. I then had to wait 10 min past my appointment to get sat, not that big a deal. I noticed that this being a barbershop there are no men cutting hair at all and all the stylists are in there fifty’s. Not a big deal but I feel like a middle aged woman probably isn’t up to date with current men’s hairstyles. I showed the nice lady a picture of me with a fresh hair cut so they could have a visual of what I’m looking for. What I ended up with looked nothing like what I described and nothing like the picture I showed. A bald fade is bald not a 1/8 inch. If you have the tools to shave you have the tools to do a bald fade. Still not a big deal my hair will grow back and I can get it cut else where next time. The reason for this bad review is when the lady was getting done cutting my hair a family came I. To get cuts and they had made an appointment. They came in about one min late ( which isn’t that big of a deal considering the lobby was empty. ) The manager ( im assuming because she was rude without fear for her job ) said that they could only cut one of the family members cuts because they were one min late. I sat in the lobby for my cut for ten min after my scheduled apt and this lady had the nerve to do that to this family. Not only did they lose my business today but that family’s and that was In a 15 min time span. What kinda place are you running? By the way my haircut is the worst I have had in almost five years and I am so disappointed I have spent more time on this review than the lady spent on my hair.

I got my last four haircuts here and two of them were not good. One was average and one was great. The last one was pretty bad. A section of hair was missed and left an inch longer than the rest so I looked goofy. I called them asking for a free haircut in order for me to keep coming back. They refused so I asked for them to fix it at least, but they refused that too. In summary they're no better than Great Clips or Supercuts or any other cheap haircut place. I keep trying different places until I find one that's good and consistent. How much money do I have to spend to get a good haircut every time, I wonder?? Thanks. Not going back.

I' had been going there for about three months, but they lost me as a customer after today. Sure, the price is great. But, there is a policy statement prominently on their check in desk stating the importance of being on time, actually early, because everyone's time is to be respected. I was 4 minutes early today and checked in promptly. However, I had to wait 20 minutes for someone who was not cutting anyone's hair during the time I was waiting. When I stated that the policy cuts both ways, especially today when I had back to back appointments with little wriggle room, she refused to cut my hair.

My boyfriend and I went together to get his hair cut, we called before we went to see if they did African American hair. They said yes, they didn’t know how to do a fade at all. We showed them a picture of what he wanted and were very disappointed with how it turned out. When the lady was done cutting his hair she said “that’s about as good as I can do”. He isn’t happy with his cut at all, if she wasn’t confident with cutting black hair I wish she would’ve said that instead of “doing the best she can”. But they have nice comfy chairs in the waiting room so that’s a plus lol

If you’re looking for an experience and inclusive haircut for a decent price definitely go here, but this was by far the worst haircut I’ve ever gotten. The women that cut my hair had the skills of a kindergartner using kid safe scissors to try and cut their own hair for the first time. She sprayed my hair and flattened it out and cut straight across leaving me dumbfounded. Ive tried a decent amount of barbershops and not one has done that before. I asked for a 1 to a 3 fade on the sides and she essentially used a 1 razor for the whole thing. she was rushing the haircut the whole time doing a half a** job, so she could get more customers in. It is possible that I got a bad hair stylist, but that isn’t an excuse for her rushing the haircut. If you care about your hair don’t go here, I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

I thus talked louder and instead of switching phones, etc., she just hung up, without bothering to do SOMETHING, like passing the phone off to a coworker to see if he or she could hear me. Horrific haircut, asked for a fade ended up with lines in my head straight across. Not shampooed or conditioned. Top of my hair cut uneven. None of the services they described were even offered and the woman reeked of cigarette smoke. I have been here twice before and felt my haircuts were ok but basically mediocre. Granted it's 14 dollars but it's not even worth 7 when I'll have to pay someone else to fix it now.

Where do I start, well for as long as I can remember I have always had the worst times with my hair. I could never style it or do what I want with my hair because I had no patience and I felt like hairstylests in the past couldn't get the full grasp of how thick my hair was and lead me into the right detection of how to style it. So I resorted to buzzing my own hair with a number 3 clip all throughout my life. That is until I found Krista at the barbershop on stoughton road. Krista has been my hero! she helped me find a hairstyle that suits me [instead of me just buzzing my hair short (not that there's anything wrong with that)] and keeps me looking professional. She has been supportive and helped push me through growing out my hair to find my now perfect hairstyle. I no longer fear a terrible haircut and I no longer fear being misunderstood as to what I want my hair to look like all thanks to Krista. She is a great barber! Always in a good mood and always putting your needs/wants first even when she's super busy which I know she is almost all the time(most likely cause she's the best).Plus you get suckers and peanuts to eat and shoulder rubs, what more could you ask for!?

Had a 12:10pm appointment today; got there at 12:00 and got checked in. Sat and waited for 20 minutes while one person was cutting hair in the back and a woman was fighting with their computer system. At 12:20 a guy came in for a 12:30 appointment, and after the guy in the back finished with his haircut the woman took the 12:30 appointment ahead of me. This is normally the only place I go for haircuts, but not sure I'm coming back after this.

The only thing to be careful of is that they do fill up fast so it's a good idea to make a reservation at least a day or two in advance. I’ve visited this Hair Salon twice. They bill themselves as a men’s barber shop. That is a stretch. They are hair stylists that cut hair with comb and scissors instead of a electric clippers as a men’s barber would. Stylist start at the top and groom downward as a women’s hair would be cut leaving a helmet look, Barbers cut with a clippers starting at the bottom and work upward leaving a tampered (regular cut) look for men. As a man, I do not need all the extra frills offered at this shop. It seems that old fashion barbering skills have been lost.

The staff is great, consistent, and actually asks questions to make sure they know what you want. The shop is clean and well- organized. They offer hair, eyebrow, and beard services. Seating areas are incredibly comfortable with huge leather chairs, wide screen tv's, coffee, and a decent selection of magazines. It might be a barber shop, but they won't bat an eyelash at female clients.

Im not sure what part of "i need a trim for a funeral this week" implied that i wanted my hair cut into a hairstyle that doesnt look anything like it did when i sat down. After i found this place i started going every 2 weeks no matter what, and always have Dana cut my hair. Still cheap, but great quality! I get my beard trimmed too, so no mess at home any more. Love this place. Definitely going to be a regular here. Refreshments and a nice waiting area in the front, treated really well, and my stylist was definitely experienced and knew what she was doing. Each stylist has their own area with a sink for shampoos, and a tv. Got a haircut and beard trim for $12! Sarah was great, can't wait to go back!

Been going to the Barbershop frachise for hair cuts for 6 or 7 years. First started when someone told me about the one in Kimberly when we were visiting the inlaws. Could not wait for branches to open in the Madison area. Couple years ago I tried the Westside store and vowed i would never go back. The stylest was rude, probably racist, and reeked of cigarettes. The haircut was ok. Most recently been stopping in at the Stoughton road location, and this place seems kind of like a box of chocolates ... you just never know what you are going to get. I am not too picky about my hair and pretty much get a standard cut. I also usually run over at noon during my lunch hour. It seems there is a different group of stylest every time I go. Most recently I had a women who did not seem very comfortable cutting my hair with the sissors and again reeked of cigarette smoke. The stylests at either of these shops do not hold a candle to the ones at the Kimberly location. If I know we are going to be visiting the inlaws i will put off getting mine and my boys haircut until we can do there. Not sure why Madison cannot get better help? Going to have to try the East Towne location and see how that is before I write all the Madison locations off. Looks to recieve much better reviews, it is worth a shot.

The barbershop has a sign that reads "Walk-ins Welcome" but its far from that. Came in this morning at 9:10am, the woman at the front counter tells me that there not taking any walk-ins till 3pm, I looked around and saw three employees and only one customer. So I then tried to make a reservation for Saturday at 9am when they open. I'm told that there all booked till 3pm for Saturday. This is a great place for a hair cut but they are extremely understaffed. I have been a loyal customer for almost two years, please hire more employees before I quit coming here for good.

They let you change the channel and watch what you want. They also provide shampoo and conditioner and a massage at the end. They take walk-ins as long as you're willing to wait, but you also better have a clue as to what you want for a haircut. If you don't, depending on who you get it may take some time to figure things out if they're unable to help much with the decision making. I say this because my experience was basically trying to go off what experience the lady I got had, and it didn't make it easy to come to a conclusion...I had been buzz cutting my own hair for years and 1 haircut before this one decided to grow it out, so I hardly know what I want. Certainly this isn't all their fault, but it's nice when the one with more experience can help guide you through like one from another location had. Anyways, each booth is separated which gives you a level of privacy that many places don't offer. You can expect to get a haircut, shampoo(with hot towel), and quick massage if you want it. They'll also apply "product" if you like, which I was actually mildly annoyed that the lady I got seemed almost unable to drop the fact that I didn't want any product in my hair.

I went about a month ago and the lady, you could tell she was new, but oh well too late now. After a terrible experience I thought I wouldn’t go again, but I needed an urgent haircut since I would not have time later so I went. I got her again. It was pretty simple the only thing was I want 1/2” off the top, after about 6 1/2” cuts she took much more, and then had to call her manager over to “fix” my hair because it was laying down. Of course it won’t lay down when you cut it so short that it has no weight! Finally I was done, although my hair was now messed up I was glad it was over with. I handed her $20, the haircut is $17, she never gave me my change back thinking that it was her tip. Tip? For what? For being terrible at cutting hair? Oh well I thought at least that is the last dollar I’ll ever spend there. There were other issues too, but too many to get into. I would like to end this by saying never go to The Barbershop on Stoughton Rd.

Nearly the same price as the big chain salons (Great Clips, Sport Clips, and Cost Cutters) which are all very nearby. The hot towel, shoulder/neck massage, shampoo, and a bit more personalized service feels nice. They take appointments, but no online reservations yet (5 stars even they do). Very pleased with my cut, and didn't feel like I was being rushed through a revolving door of part-time stylists.

Best place to get a cut, shave, or any other service for a guy. Dana is hands down the best staff. Very nice and personable. Listens to your needs and wants. I've only had one bad experience in the past 4 years. Due to not making sure the stylist knew exactly how I like my hair. Don't be afraid to stop and try to correct the mistake if you see they might not be giving your cut the way you typically wear it before it happens. Everyone is not aware how you like your hair. Overall the friendly staff and the ease of getting an appointment same day or walk ins are very convient.

Short Version: understaffed, never accommodates walk-ins, rude interaction with staff, sets themselves apart as "premium" but can't even offer what Great Clips or Sports Clips can. Most of the time, good haircut...when you can get one. Longer Version:. I've had my hair cut here three times. I've attempted six times. I will likely not try again. You essentially NEED an appointment to get a haircut. Three times now (varying days of the week and time of day), I have shown up as a walk-in and they have said they cannot accommodate me. When cutting my hair and I remarked on it, the stylist said that they have trouble hiring more stylists. Well if you guys would let me patronize the business, you could probably afford more. In fact, if more folks are turned away like I have been, and I'm sure they are, then you clearly have all the evidence that the demand is there and it's financially viable. So who and how is the business being run. I have NEVER seen small businesses constantly turn people away and expect themselves to be respected and chosen over the chain, time and again. And while I can respect that you don't want to waste the time of clients who book, I can always walk into GC or SC and they don't turn me away. And speaking of respect, this is where I draw the line. Today when I was told they could not accommodate a walk-in, I was frustrated...being the third time...and I politely said "you know...you guys kind of have a problem with this. You are never able to accommodate walk-ins." The young lady behind the counter had the gall to say "yea...well when people take the time to schedule an appointment we're not going to ignore that.". Oh so I'm not "taking the time?" Immensely unprofessional and unacceptable. First rule in customer service.....acknowledge the customer or clients perspective and frustration. That doesn't mean the customer is always right. But if you want them to have a positive experience, make them feel like someone heard them. Acknowledge what they're saying. I bet she'd be annoyed too if she could never get in to get her haircut at the place she want(ed) to. I don't always book because I travel for work a lot, often scheduled on short notice. And I don't always know when I want the haircut. Could I make more effort? Sure. But it's also very common to do walk-ins at all salons and barbershops. If this is the culture you want to promote in your business just get a sign that says "NO WALK-INS" already and send them message clearly. But you've sent me plenty of messages...my business is not welcome unless it's "scheduled" and it's ok for your front staff to be rude. So disappointing...

First time at shop. I was not happy. My haircut was way too short and the top edges too long. Even after saying I like my hair longer and I needed the top edges smoothed out instead of sticking out, the stylist did the exact opposite. I also had grey blending. It was done well. I liked the color not the haircut.

I went in for an appointment, I told the guy how I wanted my hair cut, he either didn't speak English, or didn't care, he proceeded to cut my hair, he combed it down and didn't let me look as he escorted me to the counter to pay, I felt something was up. I paid, got home, and my hair wasn't cut as short as I said, it was uneven all over, and he didn't do anything with the back...stay away if you don't want a re-do!

I've been getting my hair cut at a high end salon in Monona forever but always felt I was paying to much. Recently my stylist raised her rates and it was time to look around. I tried The Barbershop on Stoughton Rd, Madison for the first time earlier this week. I GOT THE BEST HAIRCUT I'VE HAD IN THE LAST 5 YEARS! Krista nailed it. Awesome cut at an awesome price. The next day after washing it looked just as good, even better. The experience, facilities, waiting area, peppermint shampoo and shoulder massage were all great. The only negative was I didn't tip Krista enough. I'll make up for that next time - I'll be back!

I was in a bind looking for a quality place to get a quality haircut last minute. I found “A Barbershop” on google with a 4.7 rating with over 300 reviews. I went ahead and booked an appointment and the reviews could not be more deceiving. I asked for a low taper and a trim which usually takes 30-40 min at my usual spot and at “A Barbershop” I was in the chair for 5 minutes, no exaggeration. The stylist trimmed my hair fine but didn’t know how to do a low taper. What I ended up recieving was the bottom 4” of my hairline shortened with a clippers and blended it with the length of my hair I had walked into the shop with. She didn’t even attempt to tidy up the rest of my head. Very very disappointed, very low quality. Either go to a real barbershop or go to a cost cutters, sports clips, etc. Lesson learned.

This place is great! Not only can you call ahead for an appointment or stylist (I highly recommend Christa) but where else do you get a stylish hair cut, shampoo and conditioner treatment with a soothing scalp massage with a hot towel on your face followed by shoulder massage? I called to cancel my appt because my car was not turning on and when I went to reschedule she didn't not work next weekend, so I asked if anyone else there specializes in african American kids hair and she got an attitude because I asked that!! A legitimate question being the fact that everytime a black person does come in the shop most of the women hide because they dont want to do the hair texture, then she had the nerve to ask her if there was anybody else that knew how to do that type of hair, but she just copped an attitude when I did ask!!! Great place for a haircut. It's not an actual barbershop, more of a salon along the lines of Great Clips or Cost Cutter, but way better. You get a great haircut, every cube has it's own TV and you can watch whatever you want (though I usually just look at whatever is already on), all the stylists have great personalities and are super friendly, there are free peanuts in the waiting area, and your cut comes with a hot towel, hair wash, and back massage. Ever since I've first stepped foot into a Barbershop I've never gone anywhere else.

I said trim the top and blind the side to match the top but he blinded the top to match my side and it look horrible. I told him I wanted a medium tapered but he had no idea what tf a medium is. Overall if you don't get Jenny or any other good stylist there, I'll go to another haircut place cause $16 for a hair cut you don't like is terrible. Lastly to the black barber, please improve for the sake of the customer. Thank you.

I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for". Ladies, we love you, but damn is it hard to find one than can cut hair well. Outside of a botchy fade and some Edward scissor hands weed wacker trim job,There is little left to be desired here. I have a regular barber I go to but for the convenience I decided to stop here. You know a cut is going bad by how many times the barber switches their trimmer attachments, goes back to a spot they already have been, and suddenly gets less talkative. I am always polite in person, and will leave a tip and say good job. That's just the Minnesotan in me. But this is not anything different from your run of the mill great clips, fantastic Sam's, sports clips etc. Men, do yourself a favor and support a local barber. If you got the time and are willing to drive a few minutes. Check out "The Proper Culture" in Eagan. Its appointment only but the Barber John is phenomenal. His perfect 5 star rating speaks for itself. Also, idk why but my photo wont upload with my review, I'm trying again but if it's not showing for whoever is reading this. It's probably because they have them disabled to deter negative press.

Great haircuts, easy and quick. After using Sport Clips and Great Clips, I was pleasantly surprised by The Barbershop. The staff was friendly and the actual cut was great. They were quick and thorough. The style I like can be difficult (from my experience at other companies) but The Barbershop did a great job. I had Vicke as a stylist. She left some strands of hair longer than others, one side is uneven, she didn't wash it, she didn't give me the hot towel, she didn't style and she didn't use the massager. Great service. I was a walk-in about an hour before close on what looked like a busy day. I was able to get a 7:30 appt. Came back at 7:31 and they were ready for me. Breea did the cut, and handled the fact that I casually dropped the fact that this was the hair cut for my wedding really well. She did a great job, also with a little assistance from one of her colleagues, didn't catch her name unfortunately. They made sure they gave me a great cut, even stayed a little late to do so. I have been to places like Thorps for cuts and feel like this place offers a similar quality for a lot less cash. Would definitely recommend. Most of the time just use a Wahl trimmer myself for haircuts (low maintenance) but may convert to being a regular at this place.

I left anxiety free knowing now I have a place I can come and not have to worry about whether or not I'll get the hair cut I want - they do a great job. Fantastic experience, and the price was great! Today was my second visit, Jamie cut my hair. Just like with Jose, she listened to exactly what I wanted done for the hair and she followed my words precisely. Once again I left feeling relaxed and happy, with a fresh hair cut. Also I purchased the American Crew molding clay because I usually use a pomade but she used the clay and the styling turned out great. American Crew shampoo and conditioner also is for sale there and is great product. Overall I am very pleased with the Barbershop and have recommended it to my friends and at least one of them has went there. Great place.
