A great old-school experience. I go for straight razor shaves, since I buzz-cut my own hair. This is the kind of place where they remember your name and what you like. Show up just a bit early and you will have extra time to enjoy your complimentary beverage and maybe even a little conversation. Wear your good leather shoes, and their bootblack will give them a royal treatment; way better than the spit-shine you'll get at an airport.

I normally cut my own hair or hit up a supercuts but boy am I glad to have made the 20 minute drive down to stag. As soon as I walked in I felt at ease greeted by the owner and offered a beverage. The wash and cut was superb - truly unmatched. My barber took her time and did a phenomenal job. The decor is awesome - lots of original woods, taxidermy, and comfortable seating. I definitely plan on going back!

I’ve been coming here since the June of 2011. You will not get a finer cut the way you want it anywhere else. The area they truly excel is the art of straight razor ( shavette) shaves. If you’ve never experienced a straight shave this is the only place in town to get an irritation free shave and be pampered in the old school way. Stag is an barbershop the way barbershops used to be. Get a cut, shave, relax and have a beer. A true gem of of shop in Bay View.

Totally Loved it!!!!! Amazing service and atmosphere. I took my husband there for a haircut at his b-day, the owner Jess came and introduces herself when we arrived, really nice and welcoming. We were offered drinks and I was able to sit near while my husband got the haircut from Simone! I can totally recommend Simone, she has really good touch and it was really relaxed and nice conversations we had with her. She was able to cut my husbands hair just as he wanted and she had no problem on cutting thick latin hair. Whole place had nice style and old school vibe. We will go back!

Apprentice Katie took on my very difficult hair & delivered a great style with some tips from Simone & the boss lady. They knew what they were talking about when it came to hair. Katie was good at taking direction and delivered a great cut! The first time I went there I had Lauren and she was also very friendly and did a good job! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I would expect a men's place to be amazing at fades. Mine was well done but took a bit of extra effort. But it's a good place to get a clean cut. Will return and try to book Simone next time.

The shop had a great feel. The staff was friendly. I was offered a complimentary drink (beer, whiskey, water). I went in for a haircut and beard trim. The beard trim was a little heavy handed, but looks good.

I was there few days ago, and picked the Stag to check out based on all the great reviews here. The shop is really awesome, everything looks modern retro like is common for new types of barbershops but few in Milwaukee. But frankly, this was the worst haircut and beard trim I've had in years, even compared to those franchise chains that advertise on TV that I went to before trying somewhere better. I understand the overall rating here isn't related to the woman giving the cut. She was listed as an apprentice and I assumed she was someone who is worthy of being at the top rated men's haircut shops in the city. Now I'm not sure how long she's been there or her background, and I understand that it takes time for people to learn, but the fact that the shop didn't either warn me, have someone watching the entire time instead of just checking at the end, or even have someone of that lack of skill working is very disappointing. It's at the point where I really wish I could just go somewhere else to get it cleaned up, but there's so much of the hair chopped off that I just have to wait until it grows back to get anything done. The big reason I felt like writing this is because the reason I decided to get an appointment at the Stag is because of the super high rating and so few bad reviews, if any. I just want to warn people that getting a haircut really does depend on who's giving it, not just the atmosphere.

Stag is overpriced for a barbershop. Awesome decor and presentation, but feels pretentious. The barber I was placed with for a beard trim left patchy spots in my beard. I found great service and quality in Babylon Barbershop instead.

I very rarely bother to write reviews but I am so impressed with this establishment I feel compelled to do so. Went there for the first time today after 6 months of admiring my friend's beard and hair and him telling me I should try going to Stag. Well it was my mistake for waiting so long because I feel like a whole new person. Went from lumberjack to presentable in no time at all. The beard trim and shape are exactly what I'd been trying to do at home unsuccessfully and they did precisely what I'd been hoping for and described to them, and same goes for the haircut. Other places I've had to offer suggestions and corrections along the way to get the cut I wanted but they nailed it here on the first pass. Also, the complimentary PBRs were very well received. Some of the nicest hairstylists I've had the pleasure of getting a trim and cut from to boot. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed! Special shout-out to Simone for the beard and Kristen for the hair!

I was in a pinch to get a haircut before the holiday weekend. My normal salon had just let me down. So I walked up the street to Stag - Keith and Boss Lady Jess told me they were booked solid, but could get me in the next day with their apprentice Emily. As she is an "apprentice", she gives a discount cut. I couldn't be happier. Emily took her time and Jess was right behind her overseeing every step. On top of the precision cut, the atmosphere here is amazing. I will never go to another place for a cut again. Thanks Emily and Jess!

Fantastic first experience at Stag! Checked-in and was immediately offered/brought a beverage. Jaksun was the barber for my beard trim. She asked what I was looking for and offered her professional opinion. She was knowledgeable & skilled, and we exchanged pleasant conversation. Very satisfied with the end results - exactly what I wanted. As it was my first time, she also took the time to introduce me to the owner, Jess. I also brought several pairs of boots to have Izzy the Bootblack look at. She is a true master leather artist. She polished my black dress boots impeccably, and I left a pair of Frye's for her to refinish with custom hand-painted patina. Can't wait to see the results! I have been to a number of other "reputable" barber shops in the MKE area, but was never completely satisfied. This is hands-down the best, in both atmosphere and service. Vintage-vibe, warm and approachable, with extremely courteous & professional staff. I will definitely be returning for future beard trims and the occasional straight-razor head shave.
