They serve drinks, and will spend as much time as you want making sure your haircut and shave are perfect, unlike other shops that just want you in and out as soon as possible (great clips, super cuts, etc). Additionally, between the outstanding customer service and mellow music played in the background, there was an overall very welcoming atmosphere. The ideal of what a barber shop experience should be, and I recommend this shop to anyone in the area.

After years of searching, I've finally found a barbershop that can perfectly execute my hairstyle! The barbers here take pride in what they do and are truly working towards making you look the best you can be. My personal favorite is LaFonda. She is incredibly experienced and will not only give you an amazing cut but will make it even better with suggestions based off of your hair's natural style. I could not be any more happy and appreciative to have found these guys. Thank you for the consistently great cuts and I'll definitely be back for more!

Went in for a bear shape up with pictures of my ideal end product. Had to stop the stylist half way through to try and salvage the effort. I ended up with a cut nothing like what I wanted and paid top dollar. The shave was very nice. Otherwise I would recommend against going in for anyone that values their beard.

Have not had a shave here but I bought their pre shave oil. It's lasted a while and is really good. The pump does not really work so I have to take the top off and pour into my hand, which is no big deal. Would like to get a shave here and updated to five stars, I hear it's legit.

Well I'll never be going back here. Many important appointments this week,and my hair looks hideous. Literally measured a one inch difference in side burn length. Neck was shaved with a nasty safety razor, which was obviously dull, as there was still plenty left for the lady who tried to salvage what was left yesterday. The place is pretty dirty as well. Oh and when I called to complain, I was offered 30% off my next appointment. This place is a joke. One star because I could't post this comment without giving them one....

FINALLY A HIGH QUALITY BARBER!!! This place is phenomenal. My wife suggested this place to me before my wedding, and me and 2 of my groomsmen came in for a haircut and a straight razor shave. I cannot believe how dedicated this place is to customer service. All three of us looked great and felt amazing. If you have never had a hot lather shave then you are missing out. This is my new place. I can't wait to go in again.

The first time I went there, I made sure to tell the lady cutting my hair that my face/neck was very sensitive to razor blades. As she was cutting and shaping my beard, I asked if she could just used the electric razor. She promised me that she was very smooth with the blade and that I wouldn’t have problems. So I let her. After two days, my neck and face were so raw that it hurt to the touch. Parts of my neck were almost bleeding. I think the second time I came back, I asked for a different lady and didn’t have problems from what I can remember. I actually was somewhat impressed that this lady knew the length I wanted my hair without me having to tell her because the previous lady made a record of it when I was satisfied with my hair after leaving the first time. The third time I came in, I revisited the original lady I went to the first time, except I avoided getting my beard done in hopes it would be a better experience. The haircut and shampoo was fine, but we both noticed my hair was thinning out pretty dramatically and we both came to the conclusion that it was probably because of the shampoo I was using at home. She then proceeded to tell me how many people love their shampoo they sell at the shop, how healthy it is for your hair and that it was only $16 a piece for shampoo and conditioner. As I was leaving and trying to purchase the shampoo, she said she was out of the $16 bottles and only had the huge $40 bottles for sale. I hesitated, but she had nothing but great things to say about it so I went ahead and spent $80 plus tax on shampoo and conditioner. After about 3 weeks using it and throwing my old shampoo out, my hair has gotten even thinner than it was before. I guess everyone’s hair reacts differently to different products, but this shampoo and conditioner made my hair thinner and my scalp drier than its ever been. Finally, today was the last and final time I’ll ever go there again. I made an appointment with a lady I’ve never been with before. NO beard. NO shampoo. JUST a haircut. She asked how I wanted my hair and I told her that it should be in their system. She went to look and came back and repeated what it said to me and I agreed that’s what I usually get. The entire time she was cutting my hair she had me faced away front he mirror so I couldn’t see anything she was doing. When she was “done” and turned my towards the mirror she cut all my hair the same length. Military style. It was supposed to be a 7 on the sides and about a 12 on top and she blended the top in with the sides to where my hair is all one length. The worst looking haircut I’ve ever gotten. I even told her that I didn’t want it anywhere close to this short and made it obvious how unsatisfied I was and got no apology or explanation in return. It didn’t matter to her at all that her customer was completely unsatisfied. And on top of that, she didn’t even finish cutting my hair behind my ears. There were random long hairs she missed that I had to fix when I got home. I gave this place plenty of chances, spent plenty of money and hoped each time I came back that things would get better, but they only got worse. Stay away.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU GO! I AM FAIR. I never write reviews, even if I've had a bad experience, but this one was quite frustrating. I came in with a bit longer hair then I usually have had it. I brought a few photos to give as examples, immediately they brushed it off and act like they knew what I wanted. This place is a well maintained establishment and the prices are on the higher end so I was confident that they knew what they were doing. Immediately they cut off way too much. It was as if they just disregarded my preferences and that they only do one haircut template. I understood it was called a barbershop so I laid aside my frustrations with how they cut the top of my hair. I began to regrow in frustrations at how they shaped my sideburns. For a barbershop they didn't do a very good job as well. The worst part was how dissatisfied I was with my haircut and they still forced me to pay $30. Let me be fair. This is a well maintained establishment that's why I went with two stars instead of one. They are on the higher end, so they're not like great clips/sports clips. They have great service while you're waiting. They are nice, but the worst thing I can say about a haircut establishment is inconsistent. You just can't rely on them if you're needing a haircut for an important meeting or wedding. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go somewhere else.

I normally don't give reviews, but was so unhappy with my sons haircut he received today by Della. We asked for a tapered cut with a combover and his hair looks like he's wearing a toupee! This barbershop offers great haircuts and shaves though it can be pricey for what it offers. The barbers are great at their job. However, the reason why I am giving it two stars is because recently I have been having a hard time getting shaves here because one of the barbers they hired a few months back still is incapable to do shaves. I manage to come in on a Tuesday where this particular barber works and they only have one other barber there to do shaves. Now I have been coming here for shaves for about 3 years now and every barber that they hired at least knew how to do shaves and basically the ones that didn’t know how learned how to do them as soon as they get hired. But this barber I am talking about I seen her work here for almost a year and she wasn’t able to do shaves which I was a little forgiving because I thought she would eventually learn but I recently came in here today to get a shave and found out that the barber in question still doesn’t know how to do shaves which I find getting ridiculous now because there was only one other barber who could do shaves and she was busy. I find it ridiculous that of all the years I came here that there is a barber who manages to work at a barber shop for almost a year without the knowledge on how to do shaves. This is getting to the point of actual inconvenience because this shop cannot have two barbers working there if one of the barbers working there doesn’t know how to do shaves and if someone wants a shave, they would have to wait for a barber that can do it which can take a while or miss out especially if the person needs to be clean shaven for work. I feel like if someone wants to work in a barbershop to just cut men’s hair, they should just work at Sport Clips since that place isn’t a full service barbershop but a full service barbershop should have everyone that works there know how to cut hair and do men’s facial hair grooming which includes straight razor shaves and I find it ridiculous that someone who has been working here for about a year and still doesn’t know how to do a shave.

My brother turned me on to the Modern Gent a year ago and I haven’t been anywhere else since. The place is clean, the host is professional, the customer service is excellent and Lafonda or Bertha always give great cuts. If you’re looking for a nice place that will take care of you, this is the place for sure.

I was very disappointed when my boyfriend got back from trying out this place. The "fade" was uneven and on top of that.. they took half an inch of hair off (that outlines the ears) basically creating a new hair line. Plus, A [good] barber/hair dresser will tell you if what You want will even look good and if it doesn't will suggest a different style or something similar.

Hands down the best Barber Shop experience I've had. I recently moved to the area and decided to give this place a try. Pros: Free beverage - soft drinks, water and beer (if it weren't 10am I would have had a beer). Hair cut was done really well. Lafonda took her time and worked her magic with my difficult hair. I have swirls and cowlicks galore and she did a great job. Shampoo and head massage. Hot towel. If I hadn't already trimmed up the beard I would have had her do that too. Neck massage. Cotton swab to dry my ears after the shampoo. Straight razor to clean up the neck. Calm atmosphere. All in all just a cool joint. Cons: Price. I went during the soft opening and I got everything mentioned for $27. Add in the $5 tip and it was $32. I realize that you get what you pay for and do believe I got my money's worth. The problem is that I can't do a $32 haircut every other week. I highly recommend this place for a calm and relaxing barber shop experience. Just be ready to pay for that experience.

The staff was very friendly. They offered me a drink twice and were on time for my appointment. The entire experience was very relaxing especially the hot towels. It was extremely genuine. I usually go to supercuts and get a bloody ear because all of there stylist are extremely aggressive and they still end up taking 30 minutes. At modern gent they are very gentle and are fast but good. $30 is a bit much for a haircut but considering the expierience they offer and the fact I only get my hair cut once a month it isn't really that bad. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the truth is the end result is your hair is only a little better than if you went to supercuts. However, the expierience is spa like and completely worth it. Two thumbs up from me

You have to pay for it either way, was the response from the closest hair stylist. No thanks! I'll take my business else where! When I got there I immediately felt welcomed and appreciated the sense of professionalism that all of the workers maintained while being perfectly friendly. I saw this little barber shop had recently opened just down the street from my house. As my previous barber had moved on to a new business venture a few months ago, I had been stuck going to places like Great Clips since then. I was hoping this would be the new go to spot for me and it sure is! The owner is great. He was raised in Alvin, then served 5 years in the Air Force and his wife is currently serving in the Air Force. As an Air Force veteran, I love to support my fellow veterans and at the same time support local businesses. That being said, the barber shop is absolutely awesome! I too enjoyed a beer on the house while I waited for my cut then was treated to the best hair cut experience of my life. I sure hope this place survives because I plan on going there for all my cuts in the future!

The best grooming experience I've ever had. I was in town visiting family and my brother took me by this spot. As I walked in this chic little shop I was instantly overwhelmed with a feeling of relaxation. I was able to enjoy an ice cold Shiner beer and thumb through the most recent edition of Cigar Aficionado magazine while the voices of Tony Bennett and sounds of Bill Evans filled the room. When it was time for me to take a chair, I was able to enjoy the most detailed haircut I've ever had. The barber took his time to make sure every hair on my head was given the proper attention. She then proceeded to wash and massage my scalp for what seemed like hours... It was incredible. After a neck shave and massage I was reclined back for the best face shave of my life. It was the first time I'd ever had my face shaved with a straight razor, and I highly recommend this to anyone who has never had the experience. All in all it was about an hour of heaven, the way any trip to a barber shop should be for a man. My only criticism of this unique shop is that there isn't one where I live in Colorado. But if you live near the Friendswood area, I highly suggest giving the Modern Gent Barber Shop a try.

I was excited to try this place because a good barber is hard to find. I walked in and the guy greeted me promptly and began to describe their services. Their full service deal was $30. During their soft opening this package was discounted to the price of their regular haircut which was $27. I told the guy that they wanted more than I wanted to pay for a haircut. I walked out disappointed. It was a nice calming atmosphere, though. I'm sure that they do good work and I wish them well for their business but in my opinion no haircut is worth that kind of money. I hope Friendswood can support their business.

Definitely the best hair cutting experience I've ever had. I went in thinking I was going to get a simple haircut but left feeling relaxed, and extremely satisfied. Juanita did an excellent job cutting my hair, and was pleasant to talk to the whole time. Plus they have drinks while you wait. I told them I had an appointment with a hairdresser I had before and liked but instead of pulling up the appointment they stuck me with the only other hairdresser there because she was available. I didn't care at the time but I came out with my hair much shorter than what I had asked. I gave the rating one star because she quickly used thinning shears on one spot on the front of my head so my hair is very uneven and that one spot has very obvious, buzz cut length hair like I have a bald spot. Very unhappy and will probably not go back.

I don't usually give poor reviews but this place disappointed me in more ways than one. The first impression I got from them was a confirmation text for an appointment at 415 when I signed up for 4. No big deal, I called and asked to see which time it really was and the lady at the front desk got a few different times mixed up and took a minute to tell me that the system had it for 445, not 415 like the text said. So I show up at 435 and receive a text saying I didn't show and that the time was not set at 515, which was not good with my schedule. After asking the lady about it she said she didnt know why it texted me that, but I was sat immediately which was good. The barber didn't talk much though I was expecting some conversation, but she was very friendly. The haircut turned out great and she was very knowledgeable on how to fix my hair through all my calicks which was great! I only wanted a rinse afterwards and not a shampoo but was given one anyway and later charged for it. Then she forgot I also appointed a beard trim and shaping, and she gave me good lines but I ended up getting hair inside my shirt. Overall it was a fun experience but I won't return, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to not go and try it.
