I grew my beard out for the first time. After six months, it was pretty bushy, and finally long enough to actually work with. I was recommended Roosters highly, but I was severely disappointed. I saw Frankie, a great guy who is very polite. I told him explicitly that I liked the length of my beard, but I couldn’t deal with how poofy it was on the sides. I wanted a shape-up. That’s pretty much word-for-word. Now, I have glasses and took them off, so he did his thing and I just went with it, as I couldn’t see. When he was finished, it looked great. But I struggled with the fact that he took off the vast majority of the length, which is exactly what I DIDNT want. I tipped him well still, and left. On the drive home, I really debated if I liked it, because my beard grows slow, and suddenly it was gone. So I called back to offer constructive criticism. I made it clear that I wasn’t mad, that it looked good still, but that if he’s going to take off any length, to please talk with the customer carefully about it. His response was “well, to be fair, you should be more clear with your words.”
Not cool man. I wasn’t upset and could have been just fine with the mistake, despite the fact that a man losing his beard feels like a breakup. But when I tell you how I felt about your work, you just pin the blame on me? Incredibly unprofessional. You should just own it. Didn’t help that I still had to fix it myself when I got home and looked closer. It looked uneven, even after two mentions about that towards the end. My advice to Frankie: Slow down and be precise. Just double-check before cutting off 2/3 of my beard. That’s all I wanted to ask for. And if you mess up, Dude, just own it.
I’ll probably go again, because the establishment itself looks amazing. They have the tools, they’re all polite, and the manager Dawn is a gem. She called me first thing the next morning apologizing for his conduct, and even noted me in their system for a free visit next time I come in. This is NOT condemning the whole place- it’s just a really bad first impression, and a really sad beard-funeral
