Visited the barbershop on a Wednesday afternoon, and I waited for about an hour until it was my turn because there were 2 people came in before me and Ed was the only that working. It is OK though because that means Ed took his time with each customer. He is also a "social butterfly", he will chat to you about anything from good spots to eat in the neighborhood (since I just moved to Providence) to how to get girls' numbers. Very down to earth guy. His son came in (his name is also Ed) and he was the one who cut my hair. He was very polite, I showed him a picture of my haircut from my last barber. He cut it even better. I was very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely come back here.

Ed is a great barber and always knows what will look best for your head shape. Will ask you short, medium or long length and work for over 30 mins crafting a sharp cut

I've been coming to Ed's almost exclusively since I moved to Providence in 2011. The shop is a classic spot that hasn't had to change much in the 60+ years it's been in business. Ed Sr. cut my hair superbly for many years before unfortunately he began to lose his touch, and had to retire. Since then, Ed's has been taken over by his son, and the top class service one would expect has been restored. Ed Jr. provides a haircut with a precision, care and detail that is unmatched. If you're in Providence and looking for a clean, professional cut, you won't be disappointed at Ed's.

Nice enough guy, but the haircut may have been the worst I’ve ever received. Uneven all the way around, chunks missing like one of the other reviewers mentioned, and was 17 dollars. I had to pay another 15 just to get it fixed. Don’t go here.

Time Warp Barber Shop. I walked in and had to wait about 45 minutes, but I didn't call ahead. Ed is straight out of a movie. There were several other people in there waiting and the banter back and forth was classic. I had to keep from laughing while getting my hair cut. Definitely not the place if you want some crazy haircut, but if you're looking for a 'Mad Men' type haircut, I think he's been giving them since the 60's. The place has been there for 50 years, just need a little patience since he gets pretty busy. Hint: tip the guy.

Ed isn't the type of person to hold back. Some people might not find all the discussions and jokes politically correct. But it's an old school place, straight razor to finish the haircut kind of old school. If it looks like there a line, your better off coming back when there is only a couple people waiting because it can be a while to wait. I've been going here for years and have had very few reasons to ever complain. This type of place is not for everyone, but if you have the time and don't mind being the butt of a couple jokes, you'll enjoy the experience and end up with a solid haircut.

4th and unfortunately the last time I'm going to eds barber shop, got the worst hair cut I've ever had at eds today. Before I left the chair I told him it looked uneven and not the same on both sides of my head and not faded in what so ever, I argued it wasn't and was met with an attitude. I could not get out the chair fast enough!. Wasn't until I got home and had my wife check it over and she noticed that my neck was half shaved and cut at an angle, behind my ears there were uncut hair and the sides uneven. I don't have the heart to return to eds and to refuse to get in to ed seniors chair, his son however has cut my hair twice and has been very good.

Decided to try this place out since I'm new to the area and its within walking distance. Huge mistake. Ed took a chunk out of my hair maybe a half inch by inch above my ear (see picture). Obviously a mistake but he failed to tell me about it and charged me full price (plus tip) for a botched hair cut. I noticed the chunk missing when I got home. Additionally, I was cut in several places with the straight blade on the back of my neck. It has now been almost a week of me walking around looking like an idiot or trying to hide my hair with a hat. I do not recommend this places unless you'd like to share my embarrassment.

Went to ed's for the past year, it's hit or miss for me. The first cut I got was amazing, then some have been mediocre. Don't go in there with any style terminology or reference pictures, because they will only cut your hair based on description and numbers.

Even if you’re getting a simple buzz cut, Eddie will cut it meticulously. This sort of precision and attention to detail can’t be rushed: assume it will take 40 minutes for each person ahead of you in line. Good things take time.

Even before the haircut I found Ed a rude unpleasant person (I will not use the word I actually think) However, I read good reviews so I though I would give it a try anyway. He did a terrible job, possibly the worst haircut I have ever had. Finally, the worst was that when he was shaving the hair around my ears he cut me with the razors several places behind the ears and on the face both sides. I payed 17 dollar which is not expensive but I would not go back even if i was payed for.
