Great place, talented barbershop
Went in looking like a hobo and left looking like I had my life together. 5/5
I am very particular about my haircuts and have been to a bunch of different places around Portland. Finally found Manly & Sons. Have been going to Eric for over a year now, and could not be happier. Highly recommended.
Lorren gave me the first cut I'd had in years about a month back and put my hair in the right direction. Earlier tonight I had Jesse clean it up just as well. The informative consultation on pomades, especially from Lorren, from both times, were especially helpful. I'll be back for another good cut. Nice crew here.
Great work, awesome people! Love it!!
Manly & Sons is a terrific shop run by terrific people. I'm thrilled that these boys stuck together and opened their own place. Great talent, gone through some filters, now concentrated in one location. (Well two actually). Bill Collins has been my sole barber for two years. The first time I went in with no idea what I wanted for my long, messy hair after months traveling, he basically helped me craft the perfect cut. Now, I just walk in and tell him that I want the usual and I've never once been disappointed. Bill is a skilled barber and now a friend. He is even going to help me find a good barber after I move to New Orleans in a few weeks. Five stars, absolutely. I'd give more if I could.
The staff has you leave feeling good and looking good.
I live in Salt Lake City, Utah and came here as part of a bachelor party. Our experience was so great that I'm thinking of making a 14 hour drive just for a straight razor shave. Great conversation. Thanks guys.
Nice staff very personal interaction
Legit old school style barber shop. It appears most of the guys ride motorcycles. Which makes for easy conversation. Good service. Reasonable prices. Easy walk in appointment.
My husband hates going to get haircuts. He hates how long it takes, people not knowing how to work with his hair, and the "weird first-day haircut" look he gets. He has been here twice now and it's been the best experience by far! He even brought up to me that it's time for him to get another haircut - something he would normally avoid mentioning. Arlene, you can never leave!!!
Manly and Sons is best barbershop I have been to in the PNW. The decor is right in line with how a barbershop should look, while still maintaining the cleanliness I look for in a business. Compton has cut my hair 3 times now, and everytime I leave feeling and looking exactly how I had hoped. If you need a sharp haircut hit him up, although it is worth mentioning that all of the barbers here are talented and friendly.
The best haircuts in Portland. All of the barbers are nice and friendly. Plus you get either a free beer or shot!! Definitely would recommend to anyone looking to look fresh
Great energy. Love my haircut.
Um... Hell yeah...
Do not got to Mike Templeton. Rounded one side of my beard and squared the other very obviously. Shading on my fade was way off in the right side. Should have looked a bit closer before I left but have always had great hair cuts from other barbers in this shop. Came back (within 2 minutes) to get it fixed and had to wait over an hour as he said he had another appointment waiting. Needless to say will not be going back to him again...
Cool people, down to earth. I drive nearly an hour to go here and they always give me 100%. Worth the drive for an excellent haircut.
Chris Morris does brilliant job every time I come in for hair and beard trim.
Mike Templeton is the best
Nice clean shop. Ask for Jesse!
Appointment cancelled twice in three days by Jax. First, I want to say that I have difficult hair (coarse/cowlicky). Jax is one of *four* different barbers I've seen at this location, and she did the best job. I've seen her several times. This is important later. Back to the cancellations. First time was via text at 10pm the night before (had a 6:30pm appt the next day, a Wednesday, so fairly close to 24-hr notice); second time, two hours before the rescheduled (7pm, Friday) appt. Reasons given were, in order: "something came up and I have to work at the other location" and "power outage so we had to close the shop". (She apologized both times.) I checked PGE's outage map out of curiosity and saw nothing amiss for their location. Hope they get their circuitry fixed, I guess? Sounds like a problem. While she offered an alternative barber for my first appt, I declined as I wanted her to do my hair. The second time she suggested a couple alternatives for the weekend and said the cut would be free. I appreciated the offer, but the suggestions were barbers I'd already tried and not liked as much. I had an important event coming up that I didn't want to take chances on with my hair. Unfortunately, I decided to pass on both the cut and this shop after this experience.
Even if you aren't manly, or a father, this spot will leave you fresh and clean. Go get a trim, broseph.
Can't speak for the others but Lorren is the only one in this town I can trust my hair with. She usually does anywhere from good to brilliant and my head is a bit of a minefield in terms of thinning & cow-licks. To put it in prospective, I've regretted men haircuts than I've liked in my life, so that's quite an achievement. I followed her when she left Modern Man. That place is pretty sad - the owner needs to invest more.
Small shop with a accommodating staff. They always do a great job.
Great cut, free whiskey, singing Elvis. Magical place!
Best haircut I've ever had! Recommend getting a reservation with Chris, especially if you need a good beard trim.
Nice staff, free beer, no fuss
This place is legit. Solid cuts from anyone. Cool vibe.
Awesome place!! Logan did an incredible job cutting my son's hair.
Probably best hair cut I have ever had
Great haircut and great atmosphere!
Dope cuts, dope staff, dope everything! No place I’d rather go. Everyone here has given me a cut, I’ve never been disappointed, not even once! Lorren you rock!
Great place, cool music, good products, and above all that good hair cuts and shaves. I have longer hair, and they cut it nicely. They used scissors instead of the buzzer, and it doesn't look chopy at all.
Absolutely love this place. They've got a good appointment system, I've never had a hard time getting in to get a cut or beard trim. I've been in a handful of times, had a couple different barbers, never had a bad cut whatsoever.
Great staff and laidback environment. I’ve been getting my haircut here every month for the last year and haven’t received anywhere close to even a skeptical haircut. I usually get cuts from Chris, Loren, and Jesse but have had others cut my hair as well. Highly recommend this place!
Friendly staff, but the quality of cut was definitely sub par. I asked for an inch off, and lost @ least two off the bangs and noticeably different lengths from side to side. They also applied aftershave w/out asking if I like synthetic odorants... I don't! Nice enough guys, but I won't be back.
Logan is the best! When I moved here, I was lost without my regular barber. After one haircut and beard trim I knew I found my go to in Portland.
A great haircut at a very reasonable price. Online booking is so convenient!
Good haircut
Very hip spot with brown and white retro tile and a mounted deer head. Was greeted right away and able to get in without an appointment. Was offered beer or other refreshments during my very short wait. Barber was chatty and friendly. The only down side is that $33+ tip seems a bit expensive for a buzz and beard trim that I normally do myself, so I have a hard time justifying the expense on a regular basis.
This is a place to get your hair cut. Have a drink when you show up. Anyone here can cut your hair. The guys here are all friendly. Jesse has been my go to guy since we moved here.
100% the best haircut and beard trim I've ever had. Chris was not only incredibly talented and gave me exactly what I needed but we had a great conversation even though I came on short notice. Manly and Sons is now the only place I'll go to and has blown Bishops out of the water.
Rad people who love their craft and freely share the love with others.
They have WARM shaving cream! Go visit Logan for anything from a shave to a fade to a design/carving =)
Good haircuts, but this place has gone downhill in the past years. They upped their prices, not once, not twice, but at least 4 times within only a few years. While doing this they removed the receptionist so they could add two more chairs. Now if someone calls, or comes in for anything, a barber has to stop what they are doing to help them. I had to stop three times in the middle of a shave to help people coming in because they were the only one. They upped the price many times, but lowered the quality and the experience of the whole store.
Highly skilled, friendly, personable barbers and you walk out with a great looking cut
Great service, good haircuts and conversation. Would go again. Walked in off the street without an appointment and they fit me in
While they did get my husband in as a walk in and gave him a drink for his wait, I have to be honest. I'm not impressed with the work. It cost $56 for a haircut and a beard trim. That's more than my haircut. Neither the haircut nor the beard trim are even. For that much, I'd at least expect his hair to be cut correctly.
Awesome!!!!
I tried this place because I saw it had great reviews and was not disappointed. I got a hair cut from Bill Collins and was very pleased. I didn't even know what I wanted and Bill was spot on for a great look that I enjoy. Bill and the other staff around were very friendly and gave great conversation. I like the products that they offer there as well. They sell the Bearded Bastard products (local to PDX) and other great hair, beard, and mustache products (or beard and mustache removal) safety razors, straight razors, shaving brushes, shaving kit, and so on. It makes you feel very dapper.
Great haircuts, traditional type barbershop.
Very cool shop! Great service! Look up Eric, he will treat you right!
Great people and cuts. Recommend.
I've been a regular for years, it's an awesome barbershop and you won't be disappointed!
not a place if you're in a rush. They know their stuff, and you wont get a bad haircut here. Ask for Jax, she hasn't let me down.
I went in for a beard trim and shaping and was very pleased with the results. It's very affordable and Arlene took her time to get it right. I highly recommend this shop!
They did their job exceptionally well, it was just rather expensive.
Editing my original score of 5 stars due to the fact they keep sticking me with someone who doesn't understand how to trim/shape a large beard (Loren) and she has messed my face up twice and with the increase in pricing I should have known after the first screw up not to return here. My regular barber is not available at the times I request (which has no effect on my review, it's just our schedules don't match). You're experience my be better but I just wish I could have someone cut my beard instead of someone who does not even have the understanding or ability to shape/trim properly. I'll be finding another barber shop unfortunately.
I have been going to Mike for a while now and when I heard that he was leaving Modern Man, I had to follow. Mike takes his time and makes sure that your haircut is precisely to your liking. Great guy to chat with and does amazing work.
Elegance is a skill and a Consistent haircut is a must. Barber's there will make you own your haircut no matter thin or thick.
It's a Portland barber shop without the fake flash. There's a mini fridge with beer, and a bottle of whiskey if your so inclined. The staff is a mix of mod rockers & punk, which is to be expected. You can make reservations online, or just walk in, but you're taking your chances on availability on the latter. As for the haircuts, they always manage to take me from overdue neglected Lego snap on hair to age appropriate reluctant cubical drone in a respectable thirty minutes.
Great staff. Great music. Cold beer.
You get what you pay for here, which is free beer and a damn fine haircut.
I was in town just for a few days, and my boyfriend was getting a shave here (which looked great, he got a sweet mustache wax) and Jax was nice enough to trim my excessively split ends. She even gave me some nice layers, too. Love the atmosphere, it's like hanging out with friends.
Chris gave my beard shape and purpose. Very happy with my experience
Get a real haircut here, you'll be happy.
Go to Chris! Great barbershop!
Best barber shop in town. Used to go to their location in Los Angeles. Portland is just as good. Very classic barber shop vibes and great hair cuts/beard trims. I've had mine done by both Loren and Logan and both did a great job. Prices are fair too. Highly recommended.
