I heard a lot about this establishment, the experience and the atmosphere. I wanted to try a new place and find someone that was good and payed attention to the detail to give me the look and beard I was looking for. The place was less than satisfactory. The “stylist” was mediocre and very hesitant and didn’t Have the confidence as a stylist. Didn’t listen to what I wanted done with my hair and also BUTCHERED my beard with bald spots!!! During the “exsperience” I told her to stop and I could just do it at home, totally negligent of the time and care it takes to grow out a long beard. But still charged me full price!!! She even left product “piles” of film on my face and left my beard a wreck and destroyed as I left to The receptionist, speaking of the so called receptionist when she asked me of my “experience” and I told her ive had better and that it was alright, she ONLY told me better luck next time!!! This establishment is obviously only concerned of the atmosphere and “look” of the place rather than craftsmanship and quality of the job. $64 as a first time customer and very disappointed!!!! Your customer service sucks as does your quality of work!! You would think you would want ppl Coming back but obviously you don’t care and it’s apparent that your target audience is 20-26yr old young men who dont have expectations of exsperience of quality of work or what the amount of pay should be! And you should be ashamed of the reputation your setting for yourself here in Des Moines!!! I WILL NEVER BE BACK AND WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DISCREDIT THIS PLACE TO OTHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS!!!

I had a great experience here, great cut, friendly staff, and good drinks. Honestly, if you do a membership breakdown, this place is much cheaper than other barbershops. Plus you can actually schedule appointments so you know you will get in rather than just sitting and hoping, or show up and it be closed unexpectedly. After my first cut I was convinced, try it out, you won't be disappointed.

The service is really really nice but the quality of the haircut is hit or miss. I paid for an extra upkeep (after the initial haircut) and it was not worth it. My hair is difficult to cut right and needs extra attention during a cut unfortunately. Hate to give a bad review but it wasn’t cheap

I waited 24 hours before posting to be absolutely certain of my opinion. My experience (Total: $130): I booked a straight razor head shave, beard sculpt, and 3 area wax treatment. When I arrived they promptly handed me a card for a free drink and I sat in the chair, excited for the experience and the results of a professional beard treatment and head shave. Unfortunately, the majority of the time was spent focused on various temperatures of towels being wrapped around my noggin, not on the “scissors” portion of the service. After about 15 min of straight-blading my head, it was still rough so she took a box razor to my scalp to mow the rest down. I’ve had head shaves many times at barbers all over the country, but this was a disappointment. It wasn’t smooth and I literally could have done a better job at home. Nobody should have to hit a clean shaven scalp with an electric razor immediately after the work is done. Moving into the “beard sculpt...” she trimmed out the shape of my beard with electric clippers (top and neckline) and that was it. Despite my asking to even out and shape my beard overall, no scissors ever touched my furry chin scarf and it was over. Again, my Phillips OneBlade does a better job, so it was a bit of a letdown. The waxing went as expected and the results were good. The after-service drink at the bar was good, as they have a decent number of bourbons and scotches to select from. In all, I feel Scissors and Scotch is the McDonalds of the barber world. They perform the service but it’s to a much lower standard than any ma and pop barber shop I’ve been to, and they charge a premium for it. Scissors and Scotch is a great idea that is poorly implemented. note: If you call for an appointment, be prepared to provide a credit card number over the phone

My first experience here was amazing. I booked an appointment a couple hours ahead of time on a Saturday, arrived 15 minutes early, had a drink at the bar while I waited (bar and bartender were awesome), and then had the best hair cut experience ever. You pay for it, but it’s definitely worth it!

Absolutely terrible service here. I had an appointment scheduled at 10am which was right when it opened so I assumed it wouldn't be delayed when I got there. After 25 minutes of being ignored, I asked why it was taking so long to be seen and was told the lady cutting my hair hadn't showed up yet and it would be another half hour before she got there. The hostess obviously knew that the lady wasn't there and was ok with just letting me wait an hour and not informing me what was going on. Totally unprofessional. I wasn't offered a drink or anything and they would've just let me wait an extra hour after my original appointment time if I didn't ask what was going on. For a place that charges $60 for a haircut this place is not worth it. I will never be back and I'd advise others not to even chance it with this place.

Tbh, I can't imagine myself getting a haircut somewhere else so long as I live in Des Moines. I've been there maybe a half dozen times and often with different stylists and they have all done an incredible job! Every haircut is fresh and fun, and not to mention you get to drink while you're there. Definitely not the cheapest place for a cut but it's service that cannot possibly be beat.

I don’t even want to give them a 1 star. We sent our boyfriends over to get a haircut and the salon was closed. They got a drink at the bar and a cigar and went to the patio. They expressed to us how great it was so we came to join them. After 5 minutes they go to order us a drink and they would NOT allow them To order us a drink. We walk in ourselves and they tell my friend she is “stumbling and can’t serve her” when we have had nothing to drink. I proceed to tell the blonde bartender if she didn’t want to serve women she could just tell us. High discrimination. Never going back

I was excited at the idea of this place however the experience was horrible. When I arrived for my appointment I waited at the bar for 10 minutes with no service. The bartender was too busy chatting with regulars and complaining about her shift times. My hairstylist then came in, introduced herself and took me away. Since this was my first haircut here I was told I would receive a complementary drink, however I never did get a drink, which I thought was the gimmick that made this place so unique. During the haircut my stylist was with all intentions kind, but she often talked over me. At the end of the cut, she walked me back to the bar and then ran into another of her clients which she started to converse with, totally forgetting about me. I assumed she was done with me so I walked up to the bar to pay and promptly leave, never to return.

It was very easy to make an appointment and I got right in for the head shave. Huge shoutout to Hanna! I have had numerous head shaves in a dozen cities and she was by far the best I’ve ever had! I went in for an upkeep 12-12:15 and was done by 12:05 I ask to get my sides cleaned up and was told there wasn’t enough time. Make sure if you just want behind your ears cleaned up that you book an appointment for a full haircut. This is probably my own fault and I should give S&S a five star review but I wanted that fresh keto guido cut but instead I got that mild mannered average white male trim.

Great quality haircut and awesome drinks. Men, come get a haircut, hot towel on your face while getting your hair washed and head massaged. Your haircut is finished off with your neck being trimmed with hot lather and a straight razor. When your done, sit at the bar, have an alcoholic drink of your choice and play pool.

The only reason I gave them 1 star is because they have the capability of giving a good haircut. However, they promise more than they can offer. I ordered the 15yr. and a beard trim that came with a beard oil. They never gave the facial scrub that comes with the 15yr. and they never gave the beard oil after the trim. It should not be the customer's responsibility to go through a check list to make sure they do everything they promise. I do not recommend this place at all. Avoid. WAY OVER PRICED FOR POOR SERVICE.

The atmosphere upon entering made it clear this experience was going to be different. Arrived at 3:20, appointment at 3:45, great. Just enough time for a drink..... At 4:10 I figured waiting for 25 minutes after my appointment was long enough and left without a cut. Terrible first and likely only experience. Do not recommend.

Have seen this location and heard about this as an option for guys haircuts for a while, finally took the plunge a few weeks ago and gave them a shot. Glad I checked it out! First off, LOVE that they have an actual mobile app that lets you SCHEDULE an appointment with a stylist, rather than just a website where you can "check in online" and get either a first available or pick someone.....and then you may or may NOT get seen at that actual time they give you when you get there. Being able to schedule and select the stylist you want is SO much more convenient, even though it was my first time trying it out. As the name somewhat implies, it's pretty great to be able to get a drink at the attached bar while you wait. And speaking of the name, don't let it fool you into thinking that "scotch" is all they have available. It's a full bar with all of your standard options with a number of cocktails available on their menu. Finally, the haircut itself was a great experience. My stylist was very personable and informative, providing not only a great cut and style but also helpful tips on different products to try out based on some questions I had.

Update: several months later and I still couldn't be happier with my decision to become a member. This sounds cliche, but I cannot say enough good things about this place. I am a member and it is totally worth it. I always get great service, and employees really get to know you. On top of getting a great haircut, you can have a great cocktail afterward and enjoy some good conversation.

I went in on the first day having an appointment for 3 days at 6:15 but after waiting for an hour (they close at 7), I never got called and I went home without a haircut. The staff was great throughout and they were apologetic but I was still annoyed.. Not 20 minutes after I put in my previous review, the owner Eric calls my cell and was cool from the get-go. He made no excuses and offered for me to come in and get taken care of appropriately. I always give a place two chances, so I took him up on the offer. I ended up with Ashley and she was awesome! I expected a good cut but I got a great one and some extra amenities I hadn't expected! I will be back!

The bar is nice but they do not cut good hair. Go for the bar, not the haircut.

Excellent service. Great drinks, great fade. Everyone always smiles and treats me with the upmost respect. What else could you want, get drunk while getting pampered a little. Scenery ain't bad either.
