Check in was achieved very quickly, but just as quick I was forgotten or just plain lost in the shuffle. I did not receive my service until 45 min later. I will not book a sugar wax again, I still had hair left that should have been removed. The instructor should have caught this. Students were very pleasant and professional though. Been an Aveda fan for many years , this was a very disappointing experience for the 2nd time . Never had this problem when you were located in Hyde Park.

I had a great experience yesterday at the Aveda Fredric's Institute. It started with the consultation with the stylist, making sure she was clear with how I wanted my hair to look. She asked a lot of questions about how I style my hair, my daily routine, etc. I felt she really listened to me & was realistic with me about how much hair I need to take off to achieve the look I wanted (4 inches). Then she explained the consultation with the mentor who made sure we were all on the same page with the expected outcome. Then a relaxing mini massage, hair washing & mini facial. All in a spa-like setting. My cut & style were exactly what I asked for. I've already made my next appointment with Selena & will continue to come here for great service for very low cost.

Kathleen did a great job on the cut; the style was a little over her experience level, but when I got home I was able to achieve the style. I was a little disappointed in the level of instructor interaction - there needs to be more. All in all, a great experience. Remember if someone comes in with a picture, that's what they are expecting; if you can't do it, not right for their hair, etc., be up front about it, no one likes surprises.

My first time there, and I got my hair and makeup done for a formal dance. Isabel, my stylist, was helpful and friendly and asked me what I wanted, answered my questions. I was not expecting the massage and facial, and makeup, and I got a very relaxing pampering for a reasonable price of about $21. When you go there, don't forget to buy some of their green tea mints. Chai is best.

i just got off of the phone with i assume a student of aveda. the last time i was there, my hair was far from what i had asked for. i was assured that i would get my next visit for free. during my conversation, not only was the person on the other end rude, but i was told that there was no note on my name stating that my next visit was complimentary. when i asked to speak to a director i was told that i couldn't and that i had to wait to get a call back...i have heard this time and time again with never a call back...this is really unfortunate because i enjoyed having my hair done there, never again and i certainly will not recommend them to anyone else...such a shame.

It takes a little longer than a typical haircut because the stylists in training check in the licensed professionals throughout, but you really can't beat the quality of the hair products, the professionalism of the service, and the relaxing environment at such an affordable price. Best spa pedicures in town and you can't beat the price. I've been a loyal fans since they were in Hyde Park and since they moved to this location. Very clean and the teachers confirm the students were thorough and you are happy with their work. I've been there no less than 20 times and I've always had a fantastic experience. I wish I could tip the students but you can donate to the school instead.

When you walk into the Aveda School in West Chester, Ohio, it hits you that this must be a huge, beautiful salon. The front desk staff members are friendly and welcoming. My wait was short, and when my stylist greeted me I noticed how polished and professional she was. My highlight, cut, damage remedy (deep conditioner), and style were top notch. The educators who advised my stylist before each service were also awesome, knowledgeable, and so professional. I was surprised that my stylist already knew so much about all subjects related to this field. Although I spent longer in the chair here than I would have at my previous salon (knowing this going in may take some of the surprise out of the event), the time was well spent given all the money I saved! I am now a life long customer. Thank you for creating such a relaxing and wonderful experience. I wish I'd tried the school sooner! I wrote that about 7 months ago. Yesterday, I had a full highlight with Alicia M., and it was wonderful. She really perfected my color, as I had been getting partials for a couple years, and the nape/underside was very dark. You can't beat the cost either, and with Aveda products, it's a fantastic deal.

Keep in mind these are students so don't go in expecting anything better or even equivalent to if you dyed your hair at home yourself. Guest care staff has no idea what they're talking about. Students are pretty much experimenting on you. "Educators" do not trust their students as they know they don't know what they are doing. They basically told me what I wanted would take too long and she has another appointment after me... and that they couldn't dye my brown hair blonde with out my hair turning orange??? (toner?) left very upset and they couldn't care less.

I have never had a bad experience at Aveda Fredric's Institute. All of the students I've worked with have been exceptional, and their instructors have been great and very expert, too. If you want to get pampered at an affordable price, you should try it. The only down side is that you have to say goodbye to the student you get attached to for a few months but I've had two wonderful students so far whom I've worked with for several months each, and I look forward to working with others in the future! It's satisfying to see each of them move on in their new careers, though. Fantastic place!

the service was really good i asked for full highlights but student said my har is very long and she have an other appt after 3 hour. i think it happend to be a good thing because i regret getting highlight 1st its not the same color that i asked for 2nd my hair is way too much damage way more then what i can imagen even if few drops touch my hair my hair get all tangeled like i never comb my hair in whole life. 3rd after highlight i start having very bad hair fall.

I was told before making my appointment that it was going to take a long time, but would be well worth it. It took an hour longer than was expected. I did a part highlight with a hair cut, I will go back, but I won't do both together again. I really loved the blue room, very well thought out, the mini facial was relaxing, never did get my hand massage or asked if I wanted to get a snack, good thing I brought my own! It was a long day, but I've had lots of compliments on my hair highlight!

My daughter and I were referred to Aveda Fredric's Institute by a friend. From the scheduling of our appointments to the end of our experience, I was completely satisfied. Customer service is excellent on the phone and in person. Very friendly, hospitable and professional service with the overall operation appearing to me to be quite impressive. The massage and facial were delightful and so relaxing. The music, the ambiance and staff added to the tranquil experience. I very much enjoyed being a live head for Madison to continue learning. It was wonderful to encourage her and watch her as she worked to perfect her skill and technique. She was adorable and personable. I did not mind Madison's need for reassurance from her instructors and considered it part of her learning process. Knowing the instructors are there to guide and correct makes the experience more enjoyable and relaxing as well. We used this opportunity to save money on haircuts with the bonus of helping others and went with the expectation that the process would take longer and not be identical to that of a seasoned hair stylist/salon. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and fascinating experience. I will recommend this establishment to my friends without hesitation.

I used to go for haircuts, and while I enjoyed the experience, it took too much of my weekend time... this was before they offered later evening hours. For the past 2 years, I have enjoyed FACIALS and MASSAGES every 6-8 weeks. The Facials are the best - newest products and often 'new not yet to market' products. The Students are coached completely and the Instructors actually know my skin from returning so frequently.... The most relaxing 60 minutes for a remarkable price... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

It is an amazing deal for a cheap haircut ($17) with lots of extra bonuses: mini facial, back and should massage, shampoo and condition, blow dry, and makeup touchup.

Save your time and money. After 2 visits and more than 9 hours in the chair, my hair still looks terrible. The first student touched up my roots and turned them black and put in highlights that were imperceptible. She did not fully wash out the color (it was flaking off my scalp and my scalp hurt- I had to wash my hair as soon as I got home). The educator in charge did not even acknowledge that my color had gone horribly wrong and I just wanted out after being there from 9:45 am- 3:30 pm. On the second visit (10:30 am-2:30pm), they put in highlights to “distract” from the terrible black roots, but they didn’t leave the toner in long enough and the highlights are brassy. I have to go somewhere else to get it all fixed and my hair is fried.

Great place for a men's haircut! Anna for my consultation and Elizabeth for my actual cut were both very professional and friendly. Also very welcoming, especially for someone like myself who is accustomed to barbershops. Definitely recommend!

Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Went in there the first time to get my roots retouched to match my blonde hair and the two girls doing my hair made it three different colors. The students were negligent and irresponsible and one even took her gloves off while BLEACHING my hair to respond to text messages. After applying the bleach, the two students vanished and I had to actually go looking for them to find them playing on their phones again. After toning my hair, they turned it grey instead of platinum blonde. I came back two days later and asked for a refund and they refused to give it to me and had a STUDENT fix my messed up hair. I expressed concern with what the “educators” recommended she do with my hair and they turned my hair grey for a second time. At this point I demanded a refund and the cashiers were extremely rude and condescending about it. The owner or whoever the old lady with blonde hair was had some of the worst customer service skills and was one of the rudest people I have ever had the disservice in meeting. Go to a real salon with people who actually what they’re doing, not this joke of a place.

This is a wonderful way to cut costs and see the training of beauty professionals in action. I love the extra pampering of the neck and shoulder massage with Blue Oil, the mini-facial and hand/arm massage, and have only once in 15 or so years had an unfortunate slip of the scissors. Even then, well, hair grows back, and the instructor came in and fixed it really well. Yes, it takes longer for hair things more complicated than shampoo and blow-dry, but I enjoy observing the teaching and mentoring, and it smells so fabulous with all the Aveda products that it's a pleasure to sit in that space. The facials are spectacular, supervised by Barb Harper, who was famous in Cincinnati for the quality and intuitiveness of her treatments when she worked in salons. Wait -- forget I said that. I don't want to have to compete with you for a facial appointment! Seriously, book out some extra time to allow for instruction along with the service (and don't yell at the desk staff because it took longer than you expected, as I saw a really unpleasant woman do once, making everyone uncomfortable -- it's a school, fer pete's sake, what do you expect? Just behave. We don't throw public tantrums like that here in the civilized and kind Midwest. SO annoying. when people impose like that). It's worth every minute.

Everything about my experience exceeded my expectations. I had a full foil, cut, and eyebrow wax. The color turned out beautifully - I love it. Expect to dedicate a good amount of time to your services, but you are getting incredible products, the students are friendly, the instructors experts in their field. It was very relaxing for me to watch and learn myself. The hand massage, the Blue Room and mini facial - all very relaxing and great bonuses to the afternoon.

I love the Aveda Fredric's Institute! I have always had a great experience with hair color and cuts. The instructors make sure the students are doing everything correctly which ensures great color & cut for you! Please allow yourself extra time, as the instructors consult with the students and check their work throughout the process, which is great with me. I LOVE the complimentary hand & arm massages, and mini facials that they give you with your hair service. Love the "shampoo room", products, professionalism, & customer service. Love Aveda hair color! Color is personalized to one's needs, it is very gentle to my hair & the color lasts! I have never had a bad cut or color. Highly recommended!!

Went in for a facial and walked out the same way I walked in. They did not extract anything that’s under the skin including a clear white head. Instead, the instructor (not the student that kept apologizing) decided to tell me what my skin has and doesn’t have as if this is my first facial. My nose has black heads, my cheeks have black heads and small bumps and a couple of white heads, and my forehead also has black heads. ZERO extraction happened. I would not recommend based on the instruction that the students receive.

Had my first facial here over the weekend and it was an amazing experience, it totally exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in to a friendly smiling welcome at the front desk, to the moment I checked out everything was professional and above what I was expecting . This is obviously a teaching facility and while the instructor was present it wasn't intrusive at any point. Courtney A who did my facial was amazing, she did a skin analysis when I arrived, listened to my concerns and addressed them throughout the process. The atmosphere was relaxing, but you are aware of the fact that other students are learning so there is some background noise , but it's not that distracting, they offer ear plugs which I declined as the music was very relaxing. My skin felt amazing after the facial, which I didn't want to end. I was recommended a product, which I purchased but there was no pressure at all to buy it. I was so happy that I've booked a return visit in 4 weeks with Courtney. I've also called a few friends and told them they need to make a visit. Really excellent experience overall.

I had a horrible experience at this place when I went in for waxing my legs. There were two girls ( one was named Miyoshi, I don't know how she spelled her name) she was an African America girl student who was doing her last day at the institute the day I was there 5/23/2014, and there was another Caucasian girl. They were making racial comments against Indian people and they gave me shock of my life when one of the girls brought a scissor out of the drawer which she said out loud that it was used on other customers, and she used those scissors to cut the hair on my leg instead of using wax strips. I realized later that I was very naïve and kept listening to their rants against my country people ( I am an indian by birth). The black girl actually nipped my skin off the thigh and when there was blood all over, her instructor applied a piece of bandage. They were very rude and non apologetic for what they had done to me( I was broken emotionally and physically with the deep wound and bruises on my legs ), and they did not offer to compensate for all that pain I endured during 2 hour long session. I will never go back to this place ever. I left this place with tears in my eyes. I really wish I would have taken this matter further for all that damage done to me.

Massage: I knew going in this was not deep tissue but simply for relaxation, unfortunately it was not. The student did her job fine, but the environment was anything but relaxing. The massage rooms are basically just dressing rooms with curtains for doors. I heard everything going on outside of the room: conversations, cellphones ringing, the aluminum bowls being washed (dropped) in the sink. Even without the distraction, this was too much money for the service.

My experience at the Aveda Fredric's Institute was wonderful. I was scheduled for a haircut, glossing treatment and eyebrow wax. Total time spent in the salon was about 3 hours. The student that cut my hair was great, very talkative and sweet. The student that did my brows was also very sweet. I was impressed by the amount of time and attention that was dedicated to my brow wax. The environment was second to none - the rooms and equipment are so nice and overall everything was sooo relaxing. I really enjoyed the complimentary mini-facial, hand and arm massage and makeup touch-up. Be sure to join their reward program if you plan to buy the products. My total cost was less than $50! I can't wait to go again!

My experience at AFI varies from visit to visit. On my last visit, I was pleased with the color retouch, but the student was in a hurry to finish. My hair was washed only once and my mini facial did not have all of the components.

This is the first time I have ever gone to a school to let students do my hair and I have been surprised and impressed with there professionalism and knowledge that the students have. I have gotten haircut, manicure eye brow/lip wax, hair up-do for a friend's wedding, and a pedicure and loved them all except the manicure but I work with my hands a lot and it could have just been me that chipped them up. The pedicure actually lasted longer than any other I have had before! The teachers check in before and after the service and help out with trickier things. Just give yourself extra time for every service maybe even double because they are learning! But some of the things taking a little longer is actually really relaxing :)

Ok - gratuitous caps and exclamation points ahead because this is a true salon and spa experience!!! Yes it's a school, but you wouldn't be able to tell due to the conscientious and professional student stylists and estheticians. And all at amazing prices! Be prepared to spend 2 hours for a haircut as they include a complementary mini-facial, neck and scalp massage in the relaxing shampoo room - which is more like a meditation room, complete with calming music and stars dotted on the sky ceiling. I've been to other schools before - and they are chaotic, disorganized, and loud. I have yet to find a pro salon in the tri-state that offers what this slice of heaven does. The facials are a wonderful experience as well. I can't wait to go back for a pedicure :)

Just left with 2 different haircuts after telling both the student and the instructor 3 times that I wanted layers all the way around and not just in the back. I have never had layers cut just in the back of my head. The instructor kept trying to make layers that weren't even cut in the front softer. Poor student wasn't ready to have a real person. She was super sweet, though. Even after I said that I wanted the layers in the front the instructor ignored me.

My experience in Aveda Institute was really bad. I needed for them to do brown highlights but after they were done, my hair was still the same. There was no difference in my hair color. I went there two times and still no change. The ladies on register were really rude as well and I was polite to them but they didn't seem like they cared for their costumers.

Well my friend that goes to school there I over hear the teacher bashing her and calling her dirty. I have heard many things about the teacher from my friend of the teacher picking on her and for that you get 1 star. Honestly tho! For a teacher to pick on her own students like a bully !? I don't care if this isn't highschool ! Respect your students and you will get respect back ! It makes me sick that they have a teacher like her. She's got no class and just puts a bad name on Avada ! I will never come here! I will say my friend is so talented at what she dose and will go far. I should know I have done hair for 4 years so far :)
