I’ve been getting my haircut from the guys at Matter of Instinct since I moved into the city. Once I started going to them, I saw no reason to go to another shop. I’ve been using Greg as my barber, but the entire shop is awesome- All the barbers are super talented. I’ve even recommended several friends to different barbers. Additionally, you truly feel welcome here, as opposed to a customer here, you’re treated phenomenally. If Greg is ever slightly behind schedule, Alana (MOI’s manager) will text you and let you know, she helps keep the shop running smoothly. Everyone at MOI goes out of their way to do what they can to make it a great experience every time. Now onto pricing- initially I was slightly taken back at the price per cut, it’s probably the most I’ve paid for a haircut. BUT, it’s worth every penny. You truly pay for what you get. All barbers are well versed in many techniques I didn’t even exist before coming here. Long story short, if you’re looking for a cut, you will not regret coming here.

Matter of Instinct is a great new Barbershop in one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York. It's a beautiful space with great design but most importantly good vibes. Greg has been cutting my hair since 2015 and I trust him to give me a great haircut every single time. That said, I'm confident that you can go to anyone at Matter of Instinct and come out with a great haircut as so far everyone I've seen coming out of the shop has looked sharp. If you're looking for a new shop in New York or just to try something new, I highly recommend Matter of Instinct.

The atmosphere here is phenomenal and much better than any other shop I've gone to. The space is bright and warm, and all of the barbers are friendly which really makes this place feel like a home away from home. I went in a few times for haircuts and beard trims with Greg. He is great - I've never left feeling like it could have gone better. He's very thoughtful, and you can tell he really cares about making sure you leave the shop feeling your best. I wouldn't trust my hair with someone else - so much so that I just moved to SF and I'm contemplating on flying back to NYC once a month for a cut from Greg.

This place is dope. Great vibes, great people, and great haircuts. I was the type to go to any barber and just ask them to “clean it up”. Never really had a go to barber. I used to live right above this shop and always got my hair cut by Boris. Moved to East Village and tried another barber close by...huge mistake. After having to endure a couple months of a terrible haircut I went right back to Boris with my tail between my legs. He’s a real good dude and knows exactly what to do with little to no instruction. You’ll walk out of this place looking and feeling fresh.

Best barber shop in the city. Every barber in here is excellent, trained, skilled. The owner is a great guy....Friendly, good humored, open. The front desk crew is very helpful and friendly. The space is cool, too....wood paneled, urban rustic, chic. Mark is our guy. He is an amazing barber and really just a great guy all around...smart, funny, easy to talk to, interesting. We moved to the NW Bronx from downtown; and we still make the trip, bc it is worth it to go out of our way to get a good cut and support a great place and a great barber.

Within 5 minutes of entering I felt like this place was setup to put the customer first. Really friendly welcome and the decor and atmosphere is cool and relaxing. I felt like when I was asked what I wanted the barber actually cared! Not just reaching for the clippers nodding along going “yeah, yeah”. This shop is dope. Met Alana the manager out in BK, she convinced me to stop paying $20 for a fade and come to MOI. Saw Martin Argueta for my cut.. super cool dude, and definitely knows what he’s doing. Music was on point, free beer, and got to watch the Yankee game during my cut.
